Abstract:
Psychosexual development in children is influenced by the parenting practices parents use at each stage of psychosexual development. When parenting practices are used inappropriately, it will create obstacles to their psychosexual development. This study aims to find out how parenting practices are used in psychosexual development in children. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection techniques used are interviews and observation. Verification of the research data used is the triangulation technique. This research involved two respondents aged seven and nine years and two significant others, namely the respondent's mother and cousin. The results of the research are that there are obstacles in the respondent's psychosexual development, the parenting patterns used by the respondent's mother are parenting practices, punitive discipline, incoherence, warmth and positive involvement, and spanking. The sexual behavior carried out is imitated by the mother and family members as well as the impact of social media. The implication of this research is as input for parents to be able to avoid parenting patterns that hinder the process of psychosexual development which causes children to have sexual behavior.

Abstract:
AbstractContextIn 46,XY disorders of sexual development (DSD) patients, several factors may affect psychosexual development, leading to gender identity discrepancy and gender change later in life. Prenatal sexual steroid exposure and external genital virilization are considered to influence human psychosexual development, but their roles not completely understood yet.DesignA total of 144 individuals (18 to 60 years of age) with a clinical/molecular diagnosis of 46,XY DSD from a single tertiary center were enrolled. Psychosexual outcomes (gender role, gender identity, and sexual orientation) were assessed using questionnaires and psychological test. The Sinnecker score was used for genital virilization measurement. Prenatal androgen exposure was estimated according to 46,XY DSD etiology.ResultsWe found a positive association between prenatal androgen exposure and male psychosexual outcomes. Alternatively, prenatal estrogen exposure, age of gonadectomy, and the degree of external genital virilization did not influence any psychosexual outcome. There were 19% (n = 27) with gender change, which was associated with prenatal androgen exposure (P < 0.001) but not with the external genital virilization. The median age of gender change was 15 years, but most of the patients reported the desire for gender change earlier.ConclusionsPrenatal androgen exposure influenced psychosexual development in 46,XY DSD favoring male psychosexuality in all psychosexual outcomes, whereas the degree of external genital virilization did not influence these outcomes. The organizational effect of sexual steroids on psychosexuality at puberty appears to be weak in comparison with the prenatal effects. Prenatal androgen exposure also influenced female-to-male gender change frequency. All 46,XY DSD conditions with prenatal androgen exposure must be followed for gender issues in their management.

Abstract:
Numerous contemporary analyses have challenged traditional models of female psychosexual development, identifying their norms as implicitly androcentric Femaleness has been regarded as derivative or deviant, as less and “other” than maleness. Alternative, woman-centred, models emphasise three major aspects of female psychosexual development: affiliation (women and others), maternity (women as mothers), and alterity (women and otherness). For some theorists the affiliative/maternal emphasis constructs a model of healthy and desirable femaleness. For others it represents not only the outcome of millennia of female subordination but also provides a justification for perpetuation of that subordination. Whatever the resolution of these dilemmas, a woman-centred perspective of female psychosexual development is relevant to contemporary psychiatric thinking. This review will present such a perspective and raise some of those dilemmas.

Abstract:
Clinical practice developed to promote psychosexual well-being in DSD is under scrutiny. Although techniques for genital surgery have much improved lately, long-term studies on psychosexual functioning and cosmetic outcome on which to base treatment and counseling are scarce. We studied 91 women with a DSD. Feminizing surgery was performed in 64% of the women; in 60% of them, resurgery in puberty was needed after a single-stage procedure. Both patients and gynecologists were satisfied with the cosmetic appearance of the genitalia. However, forty percent of these females experienced sexuality-related distress and 66% was at risk for developing a sexual dysfunction, whether they had surgery or not. Recognizing the difficulty of accurate assessment, our data indicate that feminizing surgery does not seem to improve nor hamper psychosexual outcome, especially in patients with severe virilization.

Abstract:
The article highlights the problems of researching the issue of critical periods in the formation of human sexuality. In particular, attention is focused on adolescence as one of the turning points in a person's psychosexual development, since many sexual problems originate from childhood or adolescence. The limits of adolescence in the understanding of domestic scientists are defined, a concise interpretation of the essence of adolescent sexuality, its differences and characteristic manifestations is provided. The process of development of platonic, erotic, sexual libido is described and the possible consequences in case of "falling out" of one of the stages are indicated. The role and significance of the third stage of psychosexual development, which coincides with adolescence and young adulthood, is revealed, the stages included in this stage of the development of human sexuality are outlined, and the tasks faced by adolescents at this time against the background of puberty, increased interest in the opposite sex and the emergence of sex drive Alternative scenarios of the formation of sexuality in the case of violations of psychosexual development or fixations at one of its stages are highlighted. Attention is focused on how disorders of psychosexual development can later affect a person's sexual behavior. It is shown that some complications in the realization of adult genital sexuality can originate from adolescence. On the basis of the studied material, directions for further research are outlined, current problems and ways for further development of relevant training, educational and educational programs for teenagers and adults are determined.

Abstract:
Objective The impact of childhood differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) on psychosocial development has not yet been studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the achievement of psychosocial developmental milestones in long-term survivors of childhood DTC. Design and methods Survivors of childhood DTC diagnosed between 1970 and 2013 were included. Reasons for exclusion were age <18 or >35 years at follow-up, a follow-up period <5 years or diagnosis with DTC as a second malignant neoplasm. Survivors gathered peer controls of similar age and sex (n = 30). A comparison group non-affected with cancer (n = 508) and other childhood cancer survivors (CCS) were also used to compare psychosocial development. To assess the achievement of psychosocial milestones (social, autonomy and psychosexual development), the course of life questionnaire (CoLQ) was used. Results We included 39 survivors of childhood DTC (response rate 83.0%, mean age at diagnosis 15.6 years, and mean age at evaluation 26.1 years). CoLQ scores did not significantly differ between survivors of childhood DTC and the two non-affected groups. CoLQ scores of childhood DTC survivors were compared to scores of other CCS diagnosed at similar ages (n = 76). DTC survivors scored significantly higher on social development than other CCS, but scores were similar on autonomy and psychosexual developmental scales. Conclusions Survivors of childhood DTC showed similar development on social, autonomy, and psychosexual domains compared to non-affected individuals. Social development was slightly more favorable in DTC survivors than in other CCS, but was similar on autonomy and psychosexual domains.

Abstract:
The present study aimed to detect psychosexual conflicts in patients with eating disorders using the Word Association Test which tests the perceptual sensitivity of the subject to conflictual words. We also expected patients to show concern about food and eating. 19 anorexic patients, 21 bulimic patients, and 20 control subjects without eating disorders provided associations to four groups of words: psychosexual words, food words, emotionally loaded words, and neutral words. Reaction times were recorded. Analysis showed that anorexic patients were slower than controls in responding to food-related words but bulimic patients were not significantly different from controls. Anorexic patients reacted more slowly than controls to psychosexual words. Bulimic patients were also somewhat slower than controls but faster than anorexic patients; however, these differences were not statistically significant. Results are congruent with research that points to sexual problems and delays in the psychosexual development of anorexic patients and to a lesser extent of bulimic patients.

Abstract:
Military personnel can experience psychosexual difficulties for a variety of reasons. Problems can arise because of psychological trauma, physical injury, consequences arising from pharmacological and surgical complications and social or emotional concerns relating to intrapersonal and interpersonal relationship dynamics. Such individuals might seek to minimise or avoid resolving their pertinent difficulties, while others can experience cultural, personal or organisational barriers to accessing professional help. This paper offers an overview of the development of a national specialist psychosexual therapy service (PST), commenting specifically on the service delivery for male military personnel. It will also consider factors which may support progress in treatment and reflect upon the importance of considering psychosexual functioning in relationships as part of the broader service-life context, which is especially relevant to military personnel.

Abstract:
The complex process of sexual differentiation is known to be influenced by biological and environmental determinants. The present review has the aim of summarizing the most relevant studies on the biological basis of sexual development, and in particular, it focuses on the impact of sex hormones and genetic background on the development of sexual differentiation and gender identity. The authors conducted a search of published studies on Medline (from January 1948 to December 2019). The evidence suggests that the sexual dimorphic brain could be the anatomical substrate of psychosexual development, on which gonadal hormones may have a shaping role during prenatal and pubertal periods. Additionally, according to several heritability studies, genetic components may have a role, but a promising candidate gene has not been identified. Even though growing evidence underlines the primary role of biological factors on psychosexual development, further studies are necessary to better explain their complex interactions.

Abstract:
Self-confidence plays an important role in both genders’ sexual functioning. Lack of genital self-esteem may have negative effects on psychosexual development, especially in males, where deviations from a standardized normal penile appearance can lead to inhibitions in entering into sexual relationships. The aim of our study was to evaluate the informativeness of studied domains of the Global Sexual Functioning (GSF) questionnaire and sexual functioning of patients surgically treated in childhood for different types of hypospadias. We evaluated 63 males with hypospadias and 60 healthy age- and gender-matched controls. The GSF questionnaire was used to estimate psychosexual function as a long-term follow-up after the surgical correction of hypospadias in the patient and control groups. Sexual activity (p = 0.017), arousal (p = 0.033) and orgasmic abilities (p = 0.002) values were significantly increased in patients. Strong correlation was noticed between sexual activity and sexual desire (R = 0.872); arousal and sexual desire (R = 0.753), as well as orgasmic and erectile abilities (R = 0.769). Different domains of psychosexual functioning in the patient group correlated with each other to various degrees, resulting in a heterogeneous expression of psychosexual dysfunctions, implicating the necessity of a personalized treatment approach.

Abstract:
The article contains 3 clinical examples, which demonstrate possible appearance of hypersexuality, caused by premature psychosexual development. The first case (observed by the author) deals with a 13-year-old teenager, who was adopted at the age of 9. His birth mother (BM), who was deprived of parental rights, abused alcoholic beverages. BM had sexual intercourses with men, while her son was with her in the same bed. Besides approximately from the age of 6–7 years she sucked his penis. Soon after his adoption the boy climbed up on his lying adoptive mother (AM), with whom he lived together in one flat, and began pressing his lips to hers (“he lied like a male on a female”). Once, when they were visited by AM relatives and it was necessary to distribute, who would sleep with whom, a decision was made that the adopted son (AS) would sleep with a 7-year-old adopted grandson (AG) of AM. Then AS was 12 and he, as it was found out later, made an attempt to insert his erected penis into the anus of AG, but the latter managed to writhe himself free. At the same age of 12 he attempted a sexual intercourse with a native granddaughter of AM (a little girl), who told her grandmother about it. Then they found a significant amount of blood on her panties and genitals, and decided that he deflowered her. But as a result of forensic examination it was revealed that the blood on the granddaughter’s panties and genitals was not hers, but belonged to AS, whose attempt to insert his penis into her vagina resulted in a rupture of his penile frenulum, that made him stop any further sexual actions. AM informed that AS constantly peeped at her when she was naked or scantly dressed. He did the same with her granddaughter, after what she refused to visit them. Now, in order not “to be in the cross hairs”, AM takes a bath only after he leaves for school. As a result of his talk with AM and examination of AS the author has concluded that the patient has sexual disinhibition associated with his premature psychosexual development, the latter being caused by sexually molesting behaviour on the part of the child’s BM. The second and third cases (observations by other authors) also deal with hypersexual behaviour, caused by premature psychosexual development.

Abstract:

The goal of the current study was to address married women's psychosexual difficulties in the context of Pakistani culture. Semi structured interviews were conducted on 35 married females as part of the study's initial phase in order to explore phenomenology, and 34 items were created as a result. Furthermore, 34 items were initially provided to experts for the evaluation of content validity. Repetitive statements were discarded after evaluation, and a scale of 32 items was kept and approved by professionals related to psychology field. 160 married female participants were given the final 32 item scale for data collection. Factor analysis revealed a strong KMO value, and Bartlett's test of sphericity revealed a substantial connection between the items. Kaiser's criteria were used to conduct a one factor analysis and only factors with Eigen values of .4 or higher were kept, while factors with Eigen values lower than .4 were removed from the sample. Three key themes found were problems with relationships, personal suffering, and religious concerns by component analysis. Data from sample of 50 married females underwent Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to verify the variables identified through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), which overall demonstrated a strong construct validity of the scale and model fit. The constructed scale's Cronbach alpha value of .97 indicates a significant inter-item correlation. The research demonstrates information on a wide range of interventions.

Abstract:
According to the Freudian psychoanalytic theory, earlier traumatic experiences highly influence the psychological development of personality. Freud also affirms that the earlier years of childhood development play a crucial role in the formation of personality. He states that all normal infants go through specific stages of psychosexual development that are naturally progressive, namely: oral, anal and phallic stages. Any disruption of or delay in the progress of any of the psychosexual stages or failure to cope with them causes the fixation of the libido at a particular stage. Martha, the central figure in Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, suffered from painful emotional experiences during childhood which gave her an unbalanced personality and a fragile ego. She lived a lonely and troubled childhood because she was abandoned and rejected by her father, a matter that has left a deep scar on her psyche. Martha also has a phallic fixation owing to the unresolved sexual conflicts during the phallic phase of the psychosexual development, a matter that negatively influences her personality. Applying Freudian psychanalytic theory, the aim of this study is to investigate the influence of past traumatic experiences of childhood on Martha’s behaviour and her psychological wellbeing. The study also seeks to uncover the impact of the unresolved Electra Complex on the development of Martha’s personality and her sexual maturity.

Abstract:
SynopsisForty-two male patients with an anorexic syndrome were assessed. Twenty-nine of them had a primary anorexia nervosa (most of them also had bulimic symptoms). They were compared with a series of 23 female anorexia nervosa patients. The males scored more highly than female patients on a number of symptoms, but generally more similarities than differences in symptomatology were apparent. Male patients with primary anorexia nervosa also showed several signs of a disturbed psychosexual and gender identity development. The data support the hypothesis that males with atypical gender role behaviour have an increased risk for developing anorexia nervosa or bulimia in adolescence.

Abstract:
A 32-year-old virgin presented with psychosexual dysfunction and a mass in the vulva. The mass arose from the cervix with a thin pedicle and it was 6 × 1.5 cm. The mass protruded outside of the hymen, it had a canal inside and an opening at the distal end, and it had a genital-like appearance. A mucosal fold was found in the tubular lumen. Fibrous smooth muscle was observed in the tubal wall, which was covered by squamous and endometrial glandular epithelium on each side. A cervical giant polyp with a canal inside the polyp might be differentially diagnosed from prolapsed genitals and abnormal sexual development. Polypectomy by mini-hysteroscopy was effective for alleviating psychosexual dysfunction caused by the mass in this patient.

Abstract:
At the present stage there is debatable a question of influence of current state on physiological reactivity that considerably reduces a validity of a psychophysiological research. In the presented work by means of the directed psychology-sexological research the factors exerting impact on emergence of significant physiological reactions in response to presentation of standard and deviant sexual incentives when testing on a polygraph of 30 volunteers were studied. It is revealed that of healthy selection of the examinees reacting to photos with the image of a deviant sexual object it is significantly characteristic: a disharmonious personal profile, cognitive distortions, indirect violations of the sexual sphere in the form of a delay of sexual development and violation of gender identity. The phenomena described in work expand the class of available studies of the influence of the individual characteristics of the subject on his physiological reactivity and can be considered at interpretation of the data obtained during the psychophysiological research in the medical purposes on sexual offenders.

Abstract:
Building upon the pioneering work of Saravay, this article describes the first stages in the development of a therapeutic small group. We follow the classic psychoanalytic theory of psychosexual stages as described by Freud with the modifications of Karl Abraham. We feel that this understanding will help us better conceptualize a dynamic understanding of small group process. In order to illustrate the theoretical formulations, examples are given from the process of a therapeutic group run along Group-analytic lines.

Abstract:
Sex education has become an important issue in human development and attracts a lot of debates day in and day out. This article situated itself on the socio-cultural perspective of adolescent sex education espousing permissive and restrictive social-cultural dimensions. The article again confined itself to psycho-theoretical perspectives by dwelling on Freud’s psychosexual theory, Eriksson’s psychosocial theory, Skinner’s operant conditioning, as well as Bandura’s social learning theory. All theories are comprehensively reviewed based on their views on adolescence and sex education. Psychosexual theory views sex education as a construct that can be nurtured in the early years of life, psychosocial theory views sex education as a construct that can occur through societal interactions, operant conditioning considers sex education as capable based on behavioral consequences, and social learning views sex education as something that can be modeled.
