Thus, the psychosocial adaptation of students and young people with disabilities is influenced by the interaction between personal, social, and environmental experiences and the impact of the activities in which the person is involved.

Though the psychosocial needs of children from alcoholic families are well-documented, the effects of parental use of illicit drugs such as heroin and cocaine on the psychosocial development of latency-age children are relatively unexplored. Child-rearing or development is fundamental in every society and any society that cannot inculcate the spirits of child-rearing from this generation to another generation will not be a good and developed society. It is through child-rearing that children are prepared for their adulthood activities and responsibilities in their respective societies. Erick Erickson developed a general psychosocial theory that includes the interplay between psychological and cultural forces working in child development. Most importantly, it is at this stage in life that adolescents are at a critical juncture in terms of making future plan and career paths, increasing social interaction, completing higher school education. The traumatic effects of combat are elaborated as having long lasting deleterious effects on veterans. The modal age of combat duty for these veterans is seen as coinciding with Erikson's postulated stage of psychosocial development, when identity is hypothesized to be crystallizing. The spectrum of resulting symptoms and problems are conceptualized within the rubric of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The persistent identity diffusion with which these veterans present is addressed within the theoretical framework of psychosocial development. Treatment implications are discussed.
