Abstract:
A brief historical digression into the doctrine of psychosomatics and the establishment of the term «psychosomatic medicine» are represented in the article. Some views on the formation and systematization of psychosomatic disorders are examined. The scientific grounds for isolating somatoform disorders into a separate group and their inclusion in the modern classifications of mental diseases (DSM and ICD-10) are analyzed. It is stated that the clinical picture of somatoform disorders does not contain specific psychopathological symptoms and syndromes but mostly consists of disparate symptom co

Objective The study examined whether psychiatric/psychosomatic rehabilitation continues to have a better course of treatment for women than men. Methods We compared the course of global symptom severity, health-related quality of life and functioning between admission and discharge in patients (848 men, 1412 women) at an Austrian psychiatric/psychosomatic rehabilitation clinic. Results Gender-specific differences in the course of treatment were all too small to be clinically relevant. The differences were smallest in the middle-aged cohort. Recent research suggests that psychological techniques may facilitate injured athletes' rehabilitation, yet little is known about the psychological techniques trainers currently employ and how they view these interventions. In this study, 206 athletic trainers assigned Likert scale ratings to 11 psychological techniques indicating how much they valued a specific technique, how skillfully they employed it, and how often they utilized it. Trainers also responded to an open ended question asking how they would deal with the psychological aspects of an injury described in a short scenario. Results
