Full textIn this study we are investigating the working conditions of the employees in an employment agency within the public sector and how they feel about their work. We have specially focused on social support and social climate and the balance between working life and private life. The flexibility, which is a necessity for the employee in a staffing work, can affect the individual in more ways than in the work itself. The purpose with this study is to get an increased understanding of the working conditions for the employees in an employment agency and how they meet with these. To get an answer of our purpose we have used a qualitative survey consisting of interviews with employees in an employment agency within the public sector. The data in this study has been divided in four categories which are: appointment flexibility, social support, and psychosocial factors. The result showed that the informants like the flexible way of working with different working places, but the psychological factors have affect on their private lives. In the study theories around demand/control/ support, motivation and flexibility have been used. Important factors which have been indicated in the study were the meaning of unity, ability to take decisions and economic security.

Full textBackground: Cancer is one of the most common causes of death amongst children and about 300 children in Sweden get sick every year. Social, psychological and physical factors are negatively affected in children with cancer, which has a negative impact on their quality of life. Children with cancer should be offered physical activity as psychosocial symptoms can be reduced by it. Objective was to compile research on how behavioral change in form of physical activity could possibly affect bio-physcho-social factors and the quality of life of children with oncological diseases and to assess the quality of those studies. Method: A systematic literature study was conducted where the searches were made in the databases PubMed, Medline and CINAHL Plus. Seven studies were included in accordance to the objective and issues of the study. The quality was assessed according to SBU's review templates for randomized controlled trial. Results: Four studies reported that physical activity affects the quality of life of children with cancer. One study showed effect on physical factors and two showed no statistically significant effects. Five of the studies were assessed to be of high quality and two of average. Conclusions: A behavioral change in the shape of physical activity may affect biopsychosocial factors and the quality of life of children with oncological diseases.

Full textThis is a qualitative study, whose purpose is to examine if night shelters effects homeless peoples self-perceived psychosocial health. In Sweden alone there are almost 18000 homeless people, and 12% of them uses a night shelter. The homeless can’t be seen as a heterogeneous group but instead homelessness counts as a state of being in. The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare have done mapping over the homelessness since 1993 and the problem is an important part of what the welfare system has to fight against. A night shelter is one of many contributions to aid the homeless people in an effort to get them off the streets. To do this research, we have conducted seven interviews in total with the homeless men and the supervisor of a nigh shelter. The data analysing tool we used was inspired by the IPA-method and we found out that the shelter had both positive and negative effects on the users. The shelter provided the basic need for the homeless such as food, shelter and the opportunity to rest and also to wash themselves and clean their clothes. The shelter also provided important contacts with the local hospital and the social welfare for its users. The negative impact it had on their self-perceived psychosocial health was that they had nothing to do during the day other than drift around the town, drinking alcohol and using drugs. Another negative influence was that the homeless men felt a loss of their right to self-determination and that they sometimes felt treated like children. Other findings were that they found that the society made harder rules and demands for them than other citizens has to apply to.

Full textThe purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about how the experience of the psychosocial work environment affects the conditions for a sustainable working life. More specifically, the study focuses on a particularly vulnerable occupational group, police officers, and their experience of the psychosocial work environment. In order to address the purpose, the following questions have been the starting point of the study: How is the psychosocial work environment experienced by police officers? What factors do police officers perceive as central to their psychosocial work environment? What are the consequences of factors in the psychosocial work environment on the police's conditions for a sustainable working life? The data collection method used in this study was qualitative interviews with six police officers who either work or work as an interventionist police. To analyze the empiricism, the theory KASAM (Sense of Coherence) was used by Aaron Antonovsky. Important concepts associated with the theory that enabled interpretation of the empiricism were comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness. As a method of analysis, a thematic analysis was used. The result shows that the factors are linked to each other but that they can be distinguished in three general themes; individual, social, and societal and organizational conditions. The individual conditions include the factors of mental fatigue, communicative competence and professional experience. The second theme deals with social conditions in which factors such as collegial support, humor and private life become central. The third and final theme deals with social and organizational conditions. Here, the factors are highlighted by staff shortages, workload, autonomy, development opportunities, schedule, working hours, legal system, authority and leadership. Finally, the results show how the factors can be understood in relation to each other based on the consequences they have on the conditions for a sustainable working life.

Full textThe background of this study is based on a cooperation between the physiotherapy program at Mälardalen University and a hospital in the county of Södermanland. The aim of the study was to evaluate whether a four week treatment of COPD-school have had an impact on patient health, well being and physical capacity. The COPD-school consisted of four occasions in which different health care professionals gave patients information on subjects including; symptom impact, emotional experiences and the importance of physical activity. There were ten patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in stage two to four who participated in the intervention. The instruments for evaluation that were used were The St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire and six minute walk test. The results showed no significant difference in the survey or six minute walk test for the group after the intervention. Previous research has shown that psychosocial factors have a profound effect on patients with COPD and their wellbeing. The authors therefore believe that future research should focus on designing treatment for patients with COPD based on the biopsychosocial model.
