Abstract:
Pteris fauriei is widely distributed in Eastern Asia and has high morphological variation. Some morphologically similar plants related to this species are difficult to distinguish. We showed that the new Pteris species from Taiwan, previously identified as P. fauriei, can be morphologically distinguished by its wide pinnae, larger terminal pinnae than the lateral pinnae in sterile fronds, and triangular basal segments of the lateral pinnae. It was confirmed that this species is phylogenetically separated from the other East Asian Pteris species, except for a morphologically distinct species P.

Abstract:
There are two varieties of Pteris fauriei Hieron. in Taiwan: P. fauriei var. fauriei and P. fauriei var. minor Hieron. Their mature sporophytes are virtually indistinguishable based on gross morphology. To better understand these two varieties and the differences between them, and to determine whether they are based on different ploidies, we examined and compared the sporophytes and gametophytes of both varieties in detail. Each variety exhibited distinct, constant cryptic characteristics and cytotype. Based on the diameter of spores from type specimens, we confirmed that P. fauriei var. minor

(Pteridaceae) is a large fern genus consisting of about 250 species which distributed predominantly in tropical and subtropical countries. The genus grows in a diversity of ecosystems, either terrestrially or lithophytically, although most species occur in the forest. A study of the cytology of Pteris in Java is being undertaken for the conceptual understanding of the interrelationships between various fern species in the Malesian region. Thi

Abstract:
The dividing lines between species in the Pteris fauriei group (Pteridaceae) are questionable and the systematic positions of some species in this group remain unclear. To help comprehensively understand the phylogenetic relationships and resolve the taxonomic problems in this group a phylogenetic tree was reconstructed based on five chloroplast DNA regions (atpA, matK, rbcL, rps4-trnS & trnL-trnF) from 22 Pteris taxa. Additionally, their spore morphology and type materials were studied. Based on the molecular and morphology evidence, we made treatments as follow: P. oshimensis Hieron. var

Pteridophyta ferns are a group of vascular plants that have a very long evolutionary history. This study aims to describe the relationship of terrestrial fern plant species (Pteridophyta) at Salodik Waterfall Central Sulawesi based on morphological characteristics. The method used was exploration method with the sampling technique being free collection. The data were processed using Microsoft Excel 2013 and then subjected to cluster analysis using the UPGMA (Unweighted Pair-Group Method with Arithmetic Average) method in the PAST 4.03 software (Paleontological Statistics). Abstract:
An Asia-Pacific fern species Pteris terminalis, formerly known as ‘Pteris excelsa’ is variable in terms of frond morphology as well as cytological characters. In particular, the results of previous cytological studies raised question on naturalness of currently accepted infraspecific taxa—‘P. excelsa var. simplicior’ (not yet combined with P. terminalis) consists of apogamous diploid and triploid, but these cytotypes are shared by the typical form of ‘P. excelsa’ (= P. terminalis), which is most widely distributed as sexual diploid. In the present study, the two varieties are re-circumscribed

In Taiwan, two taxa, P. fauriei var. fauriei and P. fauriei var. minor Hieron. have been documented. These two varieties can be distinguished based on spore size, the number of spores in each sporangium, the number of sperm in each antheridium, antheridium size, reproductive behavior, and the morphology of juvenile sporophyte fronds. Using spore size, the type specimens of P. fauriei var. fauriei and P. fauriei var. minor, collected by U. Faurie in

碩士<br>國立成功大學<br>生物多樣性研究所<br>98<br>There are two varieties of Pteris fauriei in Taiwan, i.e. fauriei and minor. P. fauriei var. minor is diploid and P. fauriei var. faurie is triploid. In general, diploid plants occur in warmer habitats, while triploid plants grow at grassland and woodland. P. fauriei var. minor is widespread in Taiwan and nearby islets, except for central Taiwan and Matsu islands. In contrast, P. fauriei var. fauri is not found in southern Taiwan or islets in the Taiwan Strait. This study focuses on the population genetics of P. fauriei var. minor and the origin of P. fauriei
