Abstract:
This research focuses on predicting academician performance in terms of publication productivity and investigate the factors that affect academicians’ achievement. Previous studies have shown that there are many important variables when analysing academicians’ productivity at the individual level. This study investigates how scientific publication rate by individual is influenced by factors such as gender, age, number of research grant and academic position of the researchers using decision tree. Having a decision rules, university leaders can understand upcoming trends with respect to leadership requirements and academicians needs. It is also helping university managements understand challenges and therefore can deploy the right strategies for human resource management interventions. The discovered knowledge among the attributes obtained from mining the data can be used to predict the university productivity output. The study, involving almost 3000 university lecturers, shows a number of interesting patterns that can be used for predicting publicatio output.

Abstract:
The paper discusses the confiscation of property (publicatio bonorum) as a source of revenue for the fiscus in ancient Rome. The term fiscus means, among other things, the public property, State funds, but also the private property of emperors. The confiscated property could be adjudged not only to aerarium – the State Treasury (publicare), but also to the personal treasury of emperors, and trials seem to have been inspired to supply it. The most „successful” accusation was connected with the crime of lese-majesty: the scope of this crime was especially wide and it was easy to convict the defendant. The Senate often voted for adjudgement of the confiscated property in respect of the Emperor, especially if the convict had received some benefits from him. This practice turned into a rule and the Emperor’s treasury became the sole beneficiary of publicatio bonorum. Some emperors are especially known as rulers accumulating their private property on confiscated goods (Caligula, Septimius Severus, Domitian). A portion of those goods was due to the children of the defendant; some rescripts issued by the emperors even ordered to transfer his whole property in the first place to his descendants. In spite of the rule that it was necessary to find the defendant guilty to confiscate his property, the publicatio bonorum was not available; when he committed suicide before the sentence, a presumption was made that this act was equal to a guilty plea. According to another rule – confessus pro indicato est – the defendant was convicted unless his suicide was justified. The personal belongings (pannicularia) were to be confiscated, too, but only after the conviction.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Objective: To identify which mentoring domains influence publication productivity among early career researchers and trainees and whether publication productivity differs between underrepresented minority (URM) and well-represented groups (WRGs). The mentoring aspects that promote publication productivity remain unclear. Advancing health equity requires a diverse workforce, yet URM trainees are less likely to publish and URM investigators are less likely to obtain federal research grants, relative to WRG counterparts.Participants: Early career biomedical investigators and trainees from the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN), N=115.Methods: A mentoring-focused online follow-up survey was administered to respondents of the NRMN Annual Survey who self-identified as mentees. Publications were identified from a public database and validated with participant CV data. Bivariate and multivariate analyses tested the associations of publication productivity with mentoring domains. Results: URM investigators and trainees had fewer publications (M = 7.3) than their WRG counterparts (M = 13.8). Controlling for career stage and social characteristics, those who worked on funded projects, and received grant-writing or research mentorship, had a higher probability of any publications. Controlling for URM status, gender, and career stage, mentorship on grant-writing and funding was positively associated with publication count (IRR=1.72). Holding career stage, gender, and mentoring experiences constant, WRG investigators and trainees had more publications than their URM counterparts (IRR=1.66).Conclusions: Grant-writing mentorship is particularly important for publication productivity. Future research should investigate whether grant-writing mentorship differentially impacts URM and WRG investigators and should investigate how and why grant-writing mentorship fosters increased publication productivity. Abstract:
“See my thoughts and feelings fill the paper, seems I’ll never, never really know why when other people talk and chatter, I would rather, rather write a song”1 “Publish or perish,” the battlecry of modern academia, may well be perceived by some as a call to bare their deepest and darkest secrets. Indeed, “publication” (from the Middle English publicacioun, from Middle French publication, from Latin publication-, publicatio, from publicare, from publicus public)2 literally means “to make public,” confronting the comfortable secrecy and seclusion associated with privacy.3 The distinction between publication and privacy also distinguishes science from sorcery. The scientist-scholar engages in the act or process of publishing observations for all to see, while the sorcerer strives to secure secrets and spells from prying eyes. While scientific observation and magical thinking about natural forces and their control may not always differ much, the manner by which the former are made available to public scrutiny and question, testing and replication, rebuttal or verification, distinguish one brand of “truth” from the other. In this vein, invoking the latter anecdotally or under the guise of authority may smack of mere sorcery In contemporary terms, interesting cases and trends, personal clinical observations and innovations and such other accumulations of wisdom, can well be kept to oneself, recorded in private, or shared with a small circle of colleagues or trainees. Unless these are brought to light and published, they do not join the scholarly stream, and will neither contribute to, nor benefit from true science. Instead, they may well perpetuate an internally-consistent, albeit inaccurate or downright false, view of reality. Exposing one’s ideas and words to possible rejection or revision by the judges and jury of editors and reviewers, not to mention readers, is no easy task either, but it is only by making ideas public that scientists gain the opportunity to dialogue, build on each other’s contributions and join the documented and ongoing history of their field.4 Publication also has other rewards, not the least of which is academic promotion and tenure. We particularly challenge PSOHNS Fellows to set the example by publishing and leading the way for our diplomates and residents. __________________________________________________ It gives me great pleasure to announce that The Singapore Declaration on Equitable Access To Health Information In The Western Pacific Region was adopted during the Second Joint Meeting of the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors (APAME) and the Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM) convened by the World Health Organization on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Singapore Medical Journal . Abstract:
The author starts by revising the concept of public service, highlighting the idea of publicatio as an important element. With this taken into consideration, he points out that it is not possible to understand the concept of public service without the presence of ownership by the State. In this context, the concept of essential service arises as a technique that harmonizes social demands and the traditional conception of public service. All in all, these concepts are materialized to affirm that the nature of the service of drinking water and sanitation is of essential service, developing and applying its principles to the concrete case.

Abstract:
In commenting on the work of Kelly, Bannister and Fransella (1980: 53) note that research may be defined as the process whereby people try to make sense of things. In order to achieve this, the importance of working with rather than on subjects is stressed as is the need for researchers to explicitly state, as far as they are able, the constructs within which they believe themselves to be working. Cohen et al note that critical theory and critical educational research have a substantive agenda: for example, examining and interrogating: the relationships between school and society - how schools perpetuate or reduce inequality; the social construction of knowledge and curricula, who defines worthwhile knowledge, what ideological interests this serves, how power is produced and reproduced through education. (2007: 27) Underlying both of these assertions is the implication that in order effectively to look outwards, the researcher must be prepared to look inwards; in order to move forwards, one must critically assess the past. Such a project requires critical thinking, that is, thinking that embodies the attributes of `quality' thinking based on a sound knowledge of context and resulting in reasoned judgements regarding what to believe and how to act.
Recently, several initiatives have emerged with the aim of strengthening the transparency of public administration by publishing data on the Web, known as Government Open Data. This type of initiative allows citizens to remain informed about the government’s management, allowing monitoring the public administration in order to contribute to the increase of citizen oversight power. Data Open Publication is generally carried out by means of systems for cataloging data such as: a Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network Platform (CKAN). In addition to the data catalogs, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Web services can also be used to facilitate access to the data. Despite the large number of initiatives aimed at providing data on the Web, there is still no consensus on the best way to accomplish this task. However, regardless of the chosen strategy, it is important that the processes used to publish data to the web and maintenance of these data are carried out automatically and so that each of its activities can be reproduced when necessary. In this context, this paper proposes a Restful API approach, based on a set of Web services to facilitate the publication and consumption of open data.

The aim of the research is to study the scientific production of the brazilian university doctorate professors available on independent publishing platforms. The independent publication consists of the publication of any book or multimedia resource by the author without the intervention of a third party established as an editor. The specific objectives are: identify the Brazilian publishing platforms, identify the professors who have published scientific books in the last 10 years in these platforms and to verify the characteristics of this production. As a methodological strategy, a sample was adopted, using as empirical universe the Brazilian doctorate teachers enrolled in five Brazilian publishing platforms. To meet the proposed objectives, the research mapped the platforms (national and foreign), the authors, the books produced and the editorial features of the works. In the universe of national platforms, 43 professors from Brazilian universities were found. In relation of methodology, the technique used is the survey and the instrument of data collection adopted is the questionnaire. As a conclusion it is stated that academic authors from all areas are publishing on online platforms. The research demonstrated that most authors (75%) were very pleased with the publication of their work on the online platforms. And they are generally satisfied with the process itself. In the academic environment where publishing speed is paramount for the advancement of science, independent publishing on the platforms brings the resolution of this problem because it was pointed out as the greatest advantage by the respondents. Disadvantages were limited promotion and market.

Abstract: The publication of research results based on the textual document has been considered since the 17th century as the primary means of scientific communication. The arrival in Science of the paradigm based on data and the Open Science movement initiates the demand for publication of other research assets/assets of different nature. We contrast the need for new ways and approaches to the publication of assets to have an adequate description to ensure the findability, access, reuse and reproducibility. One of the avenues for this publication is the expanded scientific publication. Based on the tools provided by the quadripolar method, this research analyses the epistemological, theoretical and technical transformations of the scientific communication process. The main aim is to formalize a model for enhanced publications, which considers the semiotic aspects derived from the hybridization of languages in this type of publication and the relationships between the different entities that comprise the publication. The analysis starts from the conceptualization of enhanced publications as semiotic spaces of homogeneous and heterogeneous topography, due to their composition by objects of different nature. A mapping of different publication environments is performed to extract the entities that can compose an enhanced publication. These entities, together with the executable dimension that represents and establishes the creation process and logic between the entities, form the basis of... Abstract:
This submission provides a commentary on thirteen of Richard Riddell's publications between 1999 and 2010. It explains the professional and policy contexts from the early 1990s onwards, when the author was a senior Local Authority officer, which gave rise to the thinking behind the first phase of his publications. These included the development of a bespoke school improvement process, deeply rooted in the context of the communities served by a school, and involving the development of an urban pedagogy and curricula. The centre piece of this phase was Schools for Our Cities (Riddell, 2003b). Attention then moved for phase 2 of the publications towards the social processes outside school that advantage middle class children within it. Research for this phase identified a managed model of social reproduction being operated by middle class families with children at independent schools, and an independent school/prestigious university nexus. Policy interventions of the 2000s might have begun to create analogous kinds of social processes for working class children, but they are no longer in place. The central piece for phase 2 was Aspiration, Identity and Self-Belief (Riddell, 2010).

DiVA, Academic Archive On-line, is a website which can provide the information from the most academic publications of Swedish Universities. The information includes the title, author, publication data, and so on. The aim of this project is to design a tool to visualize the co-authorship publication network and be able to transform the data into a more readable form. For parsing and visualizing data, the tool adopts the “InforVis Reference” model. Here a set of interaction and visualization technologies are adopted, so that it can create view base on user’s query with increasing the usability. In this thesis, we present a “use case” by applying our tool to visualize a part of articles published at Linnaeus University and to illustrate the capability and functions of the tool. The tool can also provide user a comfortable operating environment with a quick searching speed and high efficiency; it can be used anywhere, if internet is available.

Abstract:
Various models of editorial board members’ publishing in parent journal are examined. Editorial membership makes an important stage of the academic career; hence, this requires careful bibliometric examination of editor researchers’ publication strategies. We examine the popular approaches of editors-in-chief toward publications by their editorial board members’ in the parent journal, in the range from encouragement to prohibition. Using a sample of Russian library and information science journals, we demonstrate that the publication models of editorial board members depend on the journal’s rank.

The collection checking envisages visual revision and analysis of every book, and during this process the specialists revealed a number of valuable publications for further research. Also all registered publication went through the stage of initial collection specification (e.g., Rumyantsev museum collection, collection of the New Western Arts Museum, memorial libraries, etc). Currently, this information has been being entered into the e-catalog. This will enable to verify special arrays within the Research Library’s collection and simplify investigations into historical and memorial book collections and individual valuable publications.

Abstract:
Using CSET’s new Map of Science to examine clusters of research publications, this data brief presents a comparative analysis of U.S. and Chinese research publication outputs. The authors find that global competition outcomes differ depending on the level of granularity when comparing research publication data. In a granular view of global scientific research, the United States and China together dominate almost two-thirds of the research publication output, with the rest of the world leading in more than one-third of publication output. In a general view of global scientific research, only China and the United States appear as leaders in research output.

Donti, Olyvia, Andreas Konrad, Ioli Panidi, Petros Dinas, and Gregory Bogdanis. Is there a window of opportunity for flexibility development in youth? A systematic review with meta-analysis. INPLASY - International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols, September 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.37766/inplasy2021.9.0032.

Full text
Abstract:
Review question / Objective: To examine if there is a difference in the effect of stretching training on flexibility during childhood (6-11 years of age) and adolescence (12-18 years of age). Condition being studied: We are going to examine whether there is a greater response to stretching training (i.e. ‘window of opportunity’) during childhood, compared with adolescence. Information sources: Two review team members will independently screen the titles and abstracts of the retrieved publications to select the eligible publications. One review team member will act as a referee in case of disagreement between the review team members. We will also ensure that any retracted publications are identified and excluded from the selection outcome. Furthermore, we will locate the full texts that will not be immediately accessible, via emails to the lead authors and/journals of publication. A full list of the excluded publications will be provided in the final version of the systematic review.
