Abstract:
La tiranía del rating se ha convertido en los últimos años en una expresión muy utilizada por diferentes actores de la industria de los medios de comunicación, que desconfían de la forma en la que las métricas miden el comportamiento de las audiencias. Los compradores, los periodistas, los actores y los productores ven cada vez más en estas mediciones una moneda de cambio que privilegia la cantidad sobre la calidad. Sin embargo, la investigación comercial de audiencias, y la manera en la que es implementada, ajustada, cuestionada, tolerada o acatada por las industrias mediáticas y publicitarias contemporáneas, es un tema que no ha sido estudiado con suficiente atención. Conscientes de la relevancia y de la urgencia de estos temas, los autores de Contando colombianos cuestionan el funcionamiento de las distintas métricas comerciales; analizan los referentes históricos y conceptuales que motivaron el diseño de estos sistemas de clasificación; indagan acerca de sus consecuencias biopolíticas, filosóficas, sociales y culturales; y plantean modos y soluciones que permitan humanizar y relativizar la influencia, el impacto y el poder de las métricas comerciales. A través del estudio de un amplio rango de medios de comunicación, como el cine, la radio, el internet, la publicidad, la prensa y la televisión, y mediante estudios que abarcan toda América Latina y que se extienden a países como los Estados Unidos, España y China, este libro demuestra que la medición de audiencias no se limita a aspectos económicos y comerciales, sino que incide y define los modos en lo que el ser humano es pensado, gobernado, entendido, estudiado y, en última instancia, valorado y contado.

El turismo se ha convertido en una de las actividades de mayor relevancia e importancia a nivel mundial puesto que los individuos bajo las circunstancias existenciales ocasionado por sus funciones laborales principalmente buscan una forma de distracción o esparcimiento que mejore su estado de salud mental y emocional. Los países van visto una gran oportunidad centrado en el dinamismo y la capacidad dedesarrollo que el turismo puede generar a nivel de ingresos. De esta manera la actividad económica va a girar en torno a las actividades que más le gustan o le suelen llamar la atención al turista. Marketing turístico: estrategias de gestión sostenible No se puede ignorar que el marketing en su contexto juega un papel protagónico en la actividad turística y en la actualidad se evidencia en las disimiles acciones y en los diferentes tipos de marketing que hacen posible un posicionamiento de la actividad turísticas en diferentes segmentos de mercados. Por lo que el marketing turístico juega un rol primordial en impulsar el turismo convirtiéndolo en el producto interno bruto de alta representatividad a nivel de país. Por su parte, la publicidad ha logrado convertirse en una comunicación de forma masiva y persuasiva que busca transmitir mensajes o influir de manera alguna sobre las actitudes de los destinatarios ya sea modificándolas o reforzándolas para conseguir una respuesta positiva que genere expectativa a nivel neurosensorial del turista. Es importante resaltar que dentro del entorno turístico la publicidad busca ofertar los productos y servicios del sector, así como difundir una imagen fiable del destino que genere confianza, seguridad y empatía por sus características de ser este un servicio intangible, reconociendo que si deseamos un turismo sostenible se debe trabajar más en el efecto psicosocial de la comunicación publicitaria.

Abstract:
Criminal Fraud and Election Disinformation is about the state’s approach to fraud and distortion of the truth in politics, especially during election campaigns. Deliberate mischaracterization of political opponents and their policies has always been a part of politics; however, lying, dishonesty, and distortion of the facts remain morally wrong and have the potential to obstruct important political interests. For example, a false or misleading claim publicized about an election candidate may lead someone to lose an election that they might otherwise have won. So, does—and should—the law seek to provide protection from the risk of this happening, by directly prohibiting the making of false or misleading political claims, or by obliging internet platforms to censor such content? In attempting to answer this question, Jeremy Horder draws a key distinction between what is called ‘political viewpoint’ fraud and ‘electoral participation’ fraud. In the interests of protecting freedom of speech, false or misleading claims (disinformation) involving political viewpoint content should be tolerated, not only by the criminal law but also by the internet platforms which host political content. By contrast, in the interests of preserving the integrity of democratic electoral processes, disinformation involving electoral participation information should be prohibited by the criminal law and censored by internet platforms. This book provides explanations of how the criminal law in various jurisdictions frequently prohibits false or misleading political claims falling into both categories of disinformation.

Abstract:
In 2009, the Russian government launched a much-publicized new initiative to tackle excessive alcohol consumption. This has subsequently been presented in simplistic terms as a top–down implementation of policy, imposed in the national interest to preserve the nation’s health in face of the ravages inflicted by widespread alcohol abuse. The book challenges this widely accepted narrative, by showing how policy more commonly results from the competitive interactions of stakeholders with vested interests – with the state itself divided. Rather than a benevolent public health agenda, the interests in vodka production of some of Putin’s closest cronies provides a hidden explanatory factor behind increasingly harsh regulation of beer in Russia. The book uses the lens of alcohol policy to examine the complex kleptocracy in the Russian political economy, and to show how informal power networks can undermine formal state priorities. The analysis reveals the many ambivalences, informal practices and paradoxes that abound in contemporary Russian politics.

A Pesquisa e a Extensão são os membros de toda instituição de ensino, uma vez que, por meio delas, o conhecimento é produzido e colocado em prática na região. Através delas, problemas da sociedade em geral chegam até a comunidade acadêmica que se mobiliza para tentar solucioná-los. São criados, desta forma, espaços onde o ensino se sustenta na interação de estudantes, professores e pesquisadores, bem como, torna a instituição mais dinâmica e consoante com sua realidade. O Instituto Federal Goiano tem a Educação, a Ciência e a Tecnologia como fundamentos desde sua origem, interiorizando pelo Estado, a pesquisa científi ca e a extensão tecnológica. Editais internos alimentam essa postura gerando diversos projetos de resultados relevantes que precisam de divulgação, principalmente, em regiões pouco enaltecidas, como Posse e cidades vizinhas. Consultas rápidas em plataformas de busca revelam que a região de Posse ainda é pouco assistida ou tem a produção acadêmica parcamente divulgada. De diversas áreas, sem que nenhuma seja bem explorada, os trabalhos científicos/acadêmicos correspondem, em grande parte, a monografias oferecidas por instituições não situadas na localidade. Ou seja, instituições e comunidades naturais da região, possivelmente, carecem de estímulo para produzir ou de meios para divulgar suas produções. O estímulo para novos, amplos e contundentes trabalhos acadêmicos, depende, também, da maior visibilidade daqueles já concluídos. É um ciclo vicioso em que a publicidade aumenta a produção que aumenta a publicidade. Nesse contexto, toda ação acadêmica da região se torna importante para que as benesses da pesquisa e da extensão cheguem a mais pessoas e contribuam para o desenvolvimento da sociedade como um todo. Pautados nessas concepções, apresentamos a presente obra que buscou agrupar, em coletânea, alguns dos projetos de pesquisa e extensão desenvolvidos no IF Goiano - Campus Posse, durante os anos 2017 a 2019. Buscamos contemplar várias áreas do saber e descrever a região por meio de diversos pontos de vista e problemáticas. Assim, esperamos preencher lacunas de conhecimento, fornecer fonte segura de informação e embasar novos trabalhos acadêmicos. Acreditamos, tal como nós percebemos ao ver todos os capítulos unidos, que outros considerarão a presente obra valiosa e que deverá inspirar outras, contemplando projetos vindouros do IF Goiano, em Posse, e, quiçá, das demais instituições da região.

Abstract:
In the early twentieth century, the brutality of southern prisons became a national scandal. Prisoners toiled in grueling, violent conditions while housed in crude dormitories on what were effectively slave plantations. This system persisted until the 1940s when, led by Texas, southern states adopted northern prison design reforms. Texas presented the reforms to the public as modern, efficient, and disciplined. Inside prisons, however, the transition to penitentiary cells only made the endemic violence more secretive, intensifying the labor division that privileged some prisoners with the power to accelerate state-orchestrated brutality and the internal sex trade. Reformers' efforts had only made things worse--now it was up to the prisoners to fight for change. Drawing from three decades of legal documents compiled by prisoners, Robert T. Chase narrates the struggle to change prison from within. Prisoners forged an alliance with the NAACP to contest the constitutionality of Texas prisons. Behind bars, a prisoner coalition of Chicano Movement and Black Power organizations publicized their deplorable conditions as “slaves of the state” and initiated a prison-made civil rights revolution and labor protest movement. These insurgents won epochal legal victories that declared conditions in many southern prisons to be cruel and unusual--but their movement was overwhelmed by the increasing militarization of the prison system and empowerment of white supremacist gangs that, together, declared war on prison organizers. Told from the vantage point of the prisoners themselves, this book weaves together untold but devastatingly important truths from the histories of labor, civil rights, and politics in the United States as it narrates the transition from prison plantations of the past to the mass incarceration of today.

Abstract:
Domestic violence (DV) is a serious social problem affecting millions of Americans and individuals worldwide, which permeates family, economic, healthcare, and social structures and often leads to a criminal justice response. DV response within the criminal justice system has been and continues to be driven by well-publicized court cases such as Thurman v. City of Torrington, which brought to light the grossly inadequate law enforcement response at the time. Such cases led to a grassroots victim advocacy movement establishing shelters and other victim services while lobbying state legislatures to enact new laws designed to hold offenders accountable. While great strides have been made, arrest and intervention policies reflect a ‘gender paradigm’ that frames domestic violence primarily in terms of male perpetrators and female victims. However, research over the past 30+ years indicates DV stretches far beyond this gender paradigm and is in dire need of criminal justice reform. Misconceptions about DV continue to be shared by the public, victim advocates, and medical and mental health care workers and permeate our law enforcement agencies, family court systems, and judicial and legal practices. This text is written by scholars, practitioners, and attorneys and designed to educate and inform criminal justice audiences, practitioners, and policymakers. This book highlights the strengths and weaknesses of current DV adjudicative processes while providing the tools and expertise necessary to develop a more inclusive adjudicative process. Emphasis is also placed on DV intervention/prevention practice to serve all DV victims better while holding batterers accountable. Gender and Domestic Violence: Contemporary Legal Practice and Intervention Reforms should be of interest to legal professionals responding to and adjudicating criminal and family court, tort cases involving accusations of DV, and mental health professionals, policymakers, and others interested in recognizing DV as a societal and criminal issue.
