In 1955, a review article was published by Prof. G. Shinoda in Oyobutsuri, the most popular journal in Japan, in which the EPMA was introduced. In 1957, a research group at the University of Tokyo started to develop an EPMA with a Grant-in-Aid for Developmental Research. Abstract The interaction between atomic hydrogen and steels used in process piping and vessels is manifested in several ways: hydrogen blistering, sulfide stress cracking (SSC), hydrogen induced cracking (HIC), and stress oriented hydrogen induced cracking (SOHIC). These forms of damage are common in alkaline sour refinery environments, such as fluidized catalytic cracking units (FCCU), vapor recovery systems (VRS), and alkanolamine units. Research into these phenomena by refinery corrosion engineers has emphasized material selection, control measures such as post weld heat treatment, and repa

It is intended to assist their efforts in identifying proper methods for improving wear resistance of metal surfaces. By asking simple questions the program guides the user to those processes which will likely provide the best results. For the first time, accumulated knowledge, expertise and experience of tribologists, engineers, and technicians are available in microcomputer accessible form. The dichotomy between prevention principles discovered in a laboratory environment and their application on an industrial scale can often be felt at specialized conferences where scientists and operational engineers seem to be speaking different languages. Experiments have shown that the amount of dissolved FeCO3 does not fit with published solubility data when corroding steel is present in the solution. The influence of temperature and steel to water ratio on the precipitation kinetics and on the saturation and supersaturation of iron carbonate have been studied. It is shown that the supersaturation of FeCO3 is very temperature dependent and that the concentration when corroding steel

His theory was reported at an international conference in Linkoping, Sweden in 1984. Fundamental equations in his theory cover metallurgical coupling effects caused by changes due to phase transformation, temperature, and inelastic stress/strain as well as carbon diffusion during the carburizing process.
