Abstract:
Abstract This is a survey of what is known about Kurosh-Amitsur radical classes which are closed under direct products. Associative rings, groups, abelian groups, abelian ℓ-groups and modules are treated. We have attempted to account for all published results relevant to this topic. Many or most of these were not, as published, expressed in radical theoretic terms, but have consequences for radical theory which we point out. A fruitful source of results and examples is the notion of slenderness for abelian groups together with its several variants for other structures. We also present a few new results, including examples and a demonstration that e-varieties of regular rings are product closed radical classes of associative rings.

Abstract:
Many in vivo trials have evaluated the effects of grape products on different CVD risk factors. Most published studies have dealt with some specific aspects of mechanisms of grape flavonoid action or have focused only on one product, such as wine. The aim of the present paper is to review trials dealing with grape products and CVD published during the last 13 years (seventy-five trials). Polyphenols, alcohol and dietary fibre are the main constituents of the tested products. In animal and human studies, grape products have been shown to produce hypotensive, hypolipidaemic and anti-atherosclerotic effects, and also to improve antioxidant status as measured in terms of plasma antioxidant capacity, oxidation biomarkers, antioxidant compounds or antioxidant enzymes. Differences in the design of the studies and in the composition of the tested products (not always provided) could explain the different results of these studies.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to investigate upper secondary school teachers’ perception of publisher produced digital tools within the frame of each teachers’ subject teaching in Swedish. The study questions following the issues: (1) what attitude do teachers have towards publisher produced digital tools within the field of their subject Swedish? (2) Which, if any, expectations from the principal/ school administration do the teachers have of using the publisher produced digital tool in their education? And (3) how is the publisher produced digital tool applied in the education? To answer these questions, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six upper secondary school teachers who, among other subjects, teach Swedish. This study relies on a phenomenographic method and the phenomenon is the publisher produced digital tool. The result shows that the six interviewed teachers use publisher produced digital tools between 10 and 20 percent of their lesson time in subject of Swedish. That low utilization can partially be explained by the teachers’ long tradition of constructing their own teaching materials. Another explanation could be that publisher produced digital tools are relatively new and that the teachers feel uncomfortable using them. The expectations from the principal/school administration about the teachers’ usage of these digital tools in their teaching is relatively low. Whether the usage of publisher produced digital tools is going to increase or not in the future is unknown – it is up to the teachers of Swedish to determine.

Abstract:
Amazon, non-timber forest products, ecological effects, socioeconomic effects, monitoring.

Abstract:
碩士
南華大學
出版與文化事業管理研究所
98
Decline of Taiwan publication sales in recent years triggered its negative influences towards publication sales in convenient stores which had been in the state of recession. This would also cause increases of rejection in book sales as well. Therefore, from the perspective of overall supply chain, its effectiveness was regrettably lowered. In the case of convenient store, it often promotes all kinds of self-service items to attract consumer attention plus the year-round 24X7 passageway which has already become an indispensible item in the daily life of everyone. Since introduction of Multimedia Services machine at 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Hi-Life convenient stores, this machine provides services like return goods processing, procurement in advance, fee collection and bills handling through e-commerce with consistent growth in revenue in addition to seeking innovations and breakthroughs along the way. Hence, this research will explore in the area of using Multimedia Services machines at convenient stores besides using AHP as the assessment guidelines for creating new services through publication structures. And this thesis also would explore which service belongs to what type of innovation basing upon the proposed guidelines of seven types in innovation. This research adopted FamilyMart as research subject and through interviews and observations on Multimedia Services machine, this research proposed relevant assessment factors including three profiles like "logistics system", "commercial flow mechanism" and "e-service". Within each profile, it has three assessment guidelines and there are nine of them in total. From research findings via AHP, "commercial flow mechanism" is the current focal point profile, successively followed by "logistics system" and "e-service". Within nine assessment guidelines, the top-priority would be "pick-up goods", followed by "payment mechanism" and "purchase in advance". According to innovation category, the summarized findings are that "pick-up goods" belongs to extend of service, and "payment mechanism" is more to the side of service innovation, "purchase in advance" belongs to extend of service and acts as reference for owner''s decision making purpose so as to reach the goal of ultimate innovation.

Abstract:
Abstract According to the Global Nonwoven Markets Report 2020–2025, published in 2021 by the two leading trading organisations representing nonwovens and related industries INDA and EDANA, the average annual growth rate of nonwoven production was 6.2% (INDA and EDANA Jointly Publish the Global Nonwoven Markets Report, A Comprehensive Survey and Outlook Assessing Growth Post-Pandemic, edana, 2021, Published September 29, 2021, from https://www.edana.org/about-us/news/global-nonwoven-markets-report) during the period from 2010 to 2020. In 2020 and 2021, nonwoven production has increased even further due to the huge demand for nonwoven products needed for protectiedanave clothing such as FFP2 masks to combat the COVID19 pandemic. Optimizing the production process is still a challenge due to its high nonlinearity. In this chapter, we present a machine learning-based optimization workflow aimed at improving the homogeneity of spunbond nonwovens. The optimization workflow is based on a mathematical model that simulates the microstructures of nonwovens. Based on training data coming from this simulator, different machine learning algorithms are trained in order to find a surrogate model for the time-consuming simulator. Human validation is employed to verify the outputs of machine learning algorithms by assessing the aesthetics of the nonwovens. We include scientific and expert knowledge into the training data to reduce the computational costs involved in the optimization process. We demonstrate the necessity and effectiveness of our workflow in optimizing the homogeneity of nonwovens.

Full text
Abstract:
One way of doing research on translation history is to measure and analyse translations (for a classic example see Pym and Chrupała 2005). This quantitative approach normally focuses on published translations between different languages and as such is limited in several respects. First, it focuses primarily on translations as products of translatorial activities. Secondly, translation flows are mostly structured along particular source and target languages, which are more than often not equated with particular political entities. In my contribution I would like to adopt a spatial approach to these translation flows. In doing so, I focus not only on translations as physical objects but also on the agents enabling them, that is authors, translators and finally readers. My aim is to reconstruct patterns of mobility of relevant agents and objects in translation which together constitute a so-called translatorial space. Where do these agents live and work? Where are these works published and where are the readers of these works located? Is the mobility of ideas automatically connected to the mobility of people or objects? In this respect it is not important that a certain language or literature circulates, but how it disseminates beyond its initial place(s) of origin.

Abstract:
Abstract Metallic dissolution caused by molten vanadates has been classically considered the main corrosion process involved in the degradation of alloys exposed to the combustion products of heavy fuel oils. However, residual oils used today have higher sulfur contents, and field and laboratory studies have shown that alloys exposed at elevated temperatures to their combustion products experience a more complex corrosion process. High temperature oil ash corrosion involves, besides the occurrence of vanadium corrosion, accelerated oxidation, sulfidation and carburization, depending on temperature, local atmosphere and ash composition. Wilson(1) proposed a model for the transport, through the corrosion product scale, of species leading to metallic dissolution by molten vanadates. An extension to this model is proposed in order to include the transport of sulfur and oxygen through the scale and into the metal for including internal oxidation and sulfidation. This proposal has been validated by previously published results of a comprehensive corrosion testing of different alloys using real oil ashes and analytical results of corroded specimens carried out by the authors.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents a methodology for designing field tests to assess the relative performance of inhibitors and other chemical products, which are used to control corrosion associated with crude oil production. The same corrosion inhibitor injection points and corrosion monitoring points can be used for (1) routine operations, and for (2) field performance tests of candidate products. Field tests, which assess the performance of individual products for three phase fluids or wet gas production, require precise step changes in the chemical treatments rates in order to accurately determine the minimum quantity of inhibitor for attaining a pre-established level of performance. The approach to field-testing is applicable to all production fields. However, the candidate products must be selected, based on the chemistry of the produced fluids, including the concentration of CO2. Downhole corrosion inhibitor treatments were also discussed. Although downhole monitoring evidenced extremely short treatment lifetimes at one field, the results cannot be construed to mean that treatments elsewhere would be ineffective. An approach was provided to enable monitoring at the wellhead to be able to assess the performance of downhole tubing displacement treatments. The use of corrosion modeling software was discussed, and comparisons were made with previously published measurements of downhole corrosion rates. Reasonable agreement was observed. However, better comparisons could be obtained with more precise and more current measurements of the process parameters and the compositions of the produced fluid and gas. This paper also emphasized the need to quantify the concentration of biocide treatment, which arrive at the remote locations in the produced water or seawater injection systems. The concentration must be sufficient as to be effective. The application of downhole scale inhibitors was also discussed. The chemistry of the produced water, natural gas, and the injected seawater must be known in order to properly select the best candidate products, since the dissolved carbon dioxide can make a tremendous impact upon the pH, and the ability of the products to properly adsorb and slowly desorb, thereby providing scale inhibition. This paper also emphasizes the selection of the candidate chemical products, based on measured cost-performance.

Abstract:
Abstract Qualify means different things to different people, depending on their understanding of the term and the processes to which it applies. Simply stated, quality is conformance to requirements; a product or process must satisfy the requirements of the use or uses to which it is applied. The term "Quality management" as used in this paper does not mean that the Board of Directors are the best in the business, although I am sure they are! Quality Management or Total Quality Management(TQM) is a company- or organization-wide dedicated effort to making certain each and every product or process fulfills its requirements. The end result is that only quality products are produced. The process involves quality control, quality assurance, and internal auditing and monitoring of processes. No matter how much the employees or members want a quality, hassle-free work environment, it just will not work unless management is committed to it, and training and communications strongly emphasized. NACE’s concept of quality started as the idea that final inspection is the ultimate in "QC". Quality Control was the meeting of "specifications"; some were arbitrarily derived and had absolutely nothing to do with the requirements for the product. One of the first efforts to assure quality was the published document of Task Group T-1D-5,1 a survey of "quality control" for corrosion inhibitors. There have been some other efforts at quality control in the 25 years since this document was published, but the idea of quality as a continuing process that applies equally to making inhibitors, a string of tubing, or writing a NACE standard or document is just now catching on. There is not one standard and only one committee report on quality assurance. This paper outlines some the "quality" efforts of the past 25 years within NACE, and some work going on outside NACE that will impact on our business.

Abstract:
The issues related to the use of products generated from Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) for precise positioning are the main focus of the study. Geodetic measurements were conducted at a real site, and different types of data provided by commercial CORS networks were compared Network Real Time Kinematic (Network RTK) via VRS, generated data for subsequent processing (Virtual Rinex), and raw data from a physical station. The current national regulations, as per [1] , were adhered to, and the aim is to expand the methodology for applying a faster and more efficient approach to determining points in geodetic control networks, ensuring high reliability and accuracy through a comparative analysis. The construction of geodetic control networks (GCN) and working geodetic bases (WGB) is an essential and integral part of designing and constructing any type of infrastructure projects. In geodetic practice, GNSS determinations are most commonly relied upon as a fast and effective method. For almost all applications, the points determined with GNSS are considered without errors, thus realizing the geodetic coordinate system for the project. With the development of technology and the construction of CORS networks, Network RTK has become the most commonly applied method due to the accessible and easy acquisition of the final result (coordinates of the determined points). However, its application often does not lead to reliable results. On the other hand, the Virtual Rinex product is not widely popular among the geodetic community, though it is not inferior in terms of cost-effectiveness. Some studies on its application have been published in [2] , but its application is not embedded in any regulatory document in the Republic of Bulgaria.

Abstract:
Abstract Laboratory examination of one of the first core debris samples removed from the Three Mile Island Unit 2 (TMI-2) reactor was performed as part of a series of in-depth evaluations of postaccident core damage. Sample analysis has given new information on the quenched high- temperature reaction products formed during the TMI-2 loss-of-coolant accident. The rapid exothermic steam corrosion of Zircaloy and stainless steel cladding and localized uranium dioxideZircaloy reactions are considered the main processes. The sample was removed from a depth of three inches below the top surface of the rubble bed along the axial centerline of the reactor. The debris was composed primarily of granular ceramic fragments, resolidified metallic and "lava rock-like" materials. About one-fourth of the particles contained up to 20% open porosity and appeared to be high temperature reaction products from portions of two or more core components. Uranium dioxide fuel pellet fragments, oxidized cladding, or combinations with reaction product material were also identified. The sample contained free-flowing particles ranging from 1 cm to less than 45 micrometers, with an average size of 2 mm. Debris material was mainly composed of uranium, zirconium, and iron. Nickel, chromium, silver, tin, aluminum, and indium were also present in smaller amounts. All of these elements were present in the original core materials. The observed results are discussed with respect to published analytical predictions.

Full text
Abstract:
Extended Abstract One of the main challenges of corrosion under insulation (CUI) is that the corrosion is invisible to the naked eye due to the insulation covering the steel. Inspecting all assets and structures is almost impossible, so the owner must trust a protective coating to mitigate CUI. CUI has resulted in failure, fires, and explosions. Less than 3 years ago, we had a serious accident with an explosion that was caused by corrosion under insulation in Brazil. The cause behind severe CUI is often complex due to several failures. One way to mitigate CUI is to qualify protective coatings suitable for CUI conditions. The high occurrence of CUI in the industry has led paint companies to develop products and tests to be sure that a coating system would work under insulation. Industry owners have also tested to be sure a coating system would perform in CUI conditions. There was a lack of a commonly recognized test standard to qualify protective coatings for CUI conditions until 2018 when ISO 19277 was published. The purpose of this paper is to inform the market about the latest changes in test methods to evaluate coatings for CUI. ISO 19277 is already in use, and together with recent updates to NORSOK M-501 and a newly published test method, AMPP TM21442, it is now a set of documents available to help qualify a protective coating for CUI conditions.

Abstract:
Abstract In Canada, CSA Z245.30-14 covers the application of shop and field applied external coating systems for below ground steel pipelines. CSA Z245.30-14 was enacted in 2015 when the latest version of CSA Z662 was published. Similar to ISO 28109-3, the CSA Z245.30-14 outlines the testing criteria that liquid applied epoxy and fusion bonded epoxy coatings shall satisfy (Table 1 in CSA Z245.30-14). Pipeline maintenance and repair work can occur during the winter season in certain northern regions in Canada due to the geographical restrictions placed by the local soil condition (e.g., permafrost). Additional, pipelines transporting compressed or liquid natural gas commodities also have operation temperatures below 10 °C. Subsequently, low temperature cure liquid epoxy coating systems are often used to allow for curing on an operating (i.e., flowing) line. These coating systems allow advertised curing down to as low as -20 degrees Celsius. Many low temperature cure liquid-applied coating products do not comply with the CSA Z245.30-14 standard when tested at the Manufacturer’s advertised maximum rated service temperatures. This paper will discuss the fitness for purpose of low temperature cure liquid-applied coating systems for pipeline maintenance and repair on existing pipelines. Potential revisions to incorporate low temperature cure liquid-applied coating products into Table 1 of CSA Z245.30-14 will be presented along with commentary related to the deviations from the standard.

Usai, Jannet, Zita Ekeocha, Stephen Robert Byrn, and Kari L. Clase. Herbal Medicines Registration Process for Zimbabwe Overview of the Process. Purdue University, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.5703/1288284317434.

Full text
Abstract:
Unregistered traditional medicines pose a huge public health threat as the safety and efficacy of these products is unknown. The issue this study addresses is the inadequate regulatory measures for herbal medicines in Zimbabwe. This project was done to describe the current registration process of traditional medicines in Zimbabwe, and to identify the gaps and opportunities they present to improve the regulatory landscape. Regulations and laws governing the registration of herbal medicines in the country and published research on legislation of herbal medicines were reviewed. Two parallel regulatory bodies both registering and controlling the sale of herbal medicines were identified. The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) and the Traditional Medical Practitioners Association (TMPA) both derive their authority to regulate from the ministry of health and were established through the act of parliament which gives these authorities power to regulate the quality and sale of traditional medicines without giving a prescriptive way of doing it. The registration process, and product evaluations for the two authorities are different. While the MCAZ has a clearly defined registration process, the TMPA does not. However, MCAZ has not been very successful in registering local products with the majority of the registered herbal products being imports and only 2% of total registered products being local herbs. As a recommendation, there is need for collaboration between the regulatory bodies for consistence in quality of herbal products on the market and to improve registration of local herbal products. Developing monographs for local herbs commonly used in the country will also assist local manufacturer to fulfill the quality requirements and successful compilation of dossiers for product registration.

D’Agostino, Martin, Nigel Cook, Liam O’Connor, et al. Optimising extraction and RT-qPCR-based detection of hepatitis E virus (HEV) from pork meat and products. Food Standards Agency, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.46756/sci.fsa.ylv958.

Full text
Abstract:
Hepatitis E is an infection of the liver caused by the hepatitis E virus (HEV). HEV infection usually produces a mild disease, hepatitis E. However, disease symptoms can vary from no apparent symptoms to liver failure. There are 4 main types (genotypes) of the virus that cause concern in humans. Genotypes 1 and 2 infections are mainly restricted to humans but 3 and 4 can be identified in numerous other animal species including pigs. Transmission routes of HEV genotypes 3 and 4 have been identified to include the consumption of food products derived from infected animals and shellfish, and via transfusion of infected blood products. Hepatitis E infection is still an emerging issue in the UK and there is evidence to suggest an association of this virus with undercooked pork and pork products. Currently, there is no standardized method for evaluating the stability of HEV that may be present in food during cooking processes. There is also lack of a suitable method that can detect only infectious HEV. The proposed project aimed to address a key gap in resources for methodology related to the detection of HEV in pork and pork products. Currently the lack of a standardised method for the detection of HEV has resulted in individual laboratories either utilising their own methods or adapting methods from previously published work. This leads to a high degree of variability between the interpretation of results and does nothing to progress or provide benefit to the food industry. By interrogating the existing published methods, the project sought to refine and optimise elements of existing protocols in order to enhance the performance characteristics of the method and to simplify the methodology wherever possible. The aim was to produce a validated method which is both robust and repeatable which can be easily integrated into food laboratories capable of performing virus related work. Overall, the final method chosen was devoid of hazardous reagents and utilised easily accessible equipment. To verify the robustness of the method, an international collaborative trial was performed, with 4 UK and 3 European participant laboratories. The participating laboratories conducted analyses of pork liver samples artificially contaminated with various levels of HEV (including uncontaminated samples). The trial showed that the HEV DETECT method was just as reproducible between laboratories as it was repeatable within a laboratory. It is envisaged that the developed system will be put forward as a suitable candidate for ISO certification as a standard method. The establishment of these methods in UK laboratories could result in the availability of independent testing services for both domestic and imported pork /pork-based products. The availability of this method is in essence innovation. This work is essential to industry to help support further research to ensure that public health safety and confidence in pork and other “HEV risk” food products is maintained and improved.
