Abstract:
The excessive consumption of fossil fuel, energy shortage and global warming along with environmental deterioration have increasingly become a global issue. In order to deal with the energy crisis, energy conservation has been developed and applied in vehicles and construction machineries, i.e., excavators, loaders and forklifts. Due to the shortcoming of low efficiency, high-energy consumption and bad exhaust, the energy conservation of construction machinery for pumping concrete is necessary and urgent. This paper aims to carry out a review on energy conservation of construction machinery for pumping concrete. The research methodology comprises a quantitative analysis method and literature investigation method. First, the structure and working principle of construction machinery for pumping concrete are expounded, and energy consumption ways of construction machinery for pumping concrete are analyzed. Then, research developments in the energy conservation of construction machinery for pumping concrete are summarized. Finally, challenges with the energy conservation of construction machinery for pumping concrete are presented.

Abstract:
In the context of the active development of gas condensate fields with several reservoirs in the Gogrendag-Ekerem Upland (Korpedje, South Gamyshlja), the study of its technologies is an important area of work. The study aims to optimise the technology of simultaneously separating two gas condensate reservoirs by lifting products with one tubing string to increase hydrocarbon production efficiency. The methods used include the analytical method, functional method, statistical method, synthesis method, and others. In the course of the study, an innovative methodology was developed for the dual completion operation (DCO) of two gas condensate reservoirs, which involves lifting products with a single tubing string. The key element is the refinement of the calculations made. A detailed analysis of the equipment used in the Gogrendag-Ekerem area showed that it can also be effectively used in other regional fields, ensuring the proper functioning of each element above the packer level. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to the various individual characteristics of the field to achieve a truly effective configuration of this technology. The new technology incorporates optimised pressure, flow, and control parameters for each reservoir, resulting in increased production efficiency and reduced energy costs. A significant reduction in the negative impact on the environment and an increase in the overall sustainability of the production process have been identified. These features make the proposed technology an important contribution to the development of the oil and gas industry, contributing to more efficient and environmentally sustainable hydrocarbon production and highlighting its potential for application in modern field development. The practical significance of the research lies in the creation of a more efficient and sustainable hydrocarbon production technology, which not only helps to optimise production processes and reduce environmental impact but also provides the industry with a valuable tool to improve overall energy efficiency and sustainability in the face of ever-changing energy requirements and challenges

Abstract:
Amazon rainforests are critical for providing a wide range of ecosystem services. In the Southeastern Peruvian Amazon; however, goldmining activities are causing severe soil degradation and forest loss. We analyzed aboveground biomass (AGB), forest structure, and species diversity recovery during secondary succession in 179 forest plots. Our study provides the first field-based quantification of AGB recovery following the abandonment by two types of goldmining (heavy machinery and suction pumping) in Madre de Dios (Peru). We found that successional secondary forests in areas subjected to suction pumping were more resilient than those in areas subjected to heavy machinery. After 20 years, mean AGB in suction pumping mining areas had reached 56% of reference forest AGB, while in areas of heavy machinery mining it was only 18%. Mining type, stand age, and distance from the forest edge had a significant effect on AGB. The influence of the distance from the forest edge on AGB varies according to mining type because the effects of species diversity on AGB are mediated by the distance from the forest edge. Our results clearly showed the dynamics of AGB recovery across a secondary succession after goldmining, and the contrasting responses of AGB between the two mining types. Our study disentangles the importance of key factors in forest recovery after mining and improves understanding of the resilience of biomass accumulation in these highly degraded ecosystems.

Abstract:
Pumping costs within British industry are enormous, with the potential for considerable financial savings through fault diagnosis and condition-based maintenance. Accurate condition monitoring data interpretation is a key requirement in pump fault diagnosis. However, the human skills required to transform monitored data into maintenance information are often unavailable. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are proposed for automation of this skill in the development of a pumping system decision support tool, the key requirement of which is accurate pump fault diagnosis. The cumulative sum charting procedure was used to establish a knowledge base of fault data for ANN implementation based on historical parameter measurements. Various preprocessing techniques were investigated in relation to generalization ability and convergence rates during the learning phase. Preprocessing predominantly aVected ANN convergence rate, with the quality of training data crucial to generalization ability. ANNs could provide accurate, incipient fault diagnosis of pumping machinery based on real industrial data corresponding to historical pump faults.

Abstract:
Cytochrome c oxidases (Coxs) are the basic energy transducers in the respiratory chain of the majority of aerobic organisms. Coxs studied to date are redox-driven proton-pumping enzymes belonging to one of three subfamilies: A-, B-, and C-type oxidases. The C-type oxidases (cbb3 cytochromes), which are widespread among pathogenic bacteria, are the least understood. In particular, the proton-pumping machinery of these Coxs has not yet been elucidated despite the availability of X-ray structure information. Here, we report the discovery of the first (to our knowledge) sodium-pumping Cox (Scox), a cbb3 cytochrome from the extremely alkaliphilic bacterium Thioalkalivibrio versutus. This finding offers clues to the previously unknown structure of the ion-pumping channel in the C-type Coxs and provides insight into the functional properties of this enzyme.

Opperman, Adriaan Jacobus. "Analysis of factors influencing the performance of a hydrokinetic coil pump." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/d1021041.

Full text
Abstract:
A hydrokinetic coil pump (HCP) is described by its name. It is a coil pump driven by the kinetic energy in flowing water. The hydrokinetic energy is converted into mechanical energy by means of a paddle-wheel. The coil pump makes up part of the paddle-wheel and together is called a HCP. The HCP floats in a stream of flowing water while tethered to the bank. The focus of the study was to identify and analyse the factors influencing the HCP. The HCP was then optimized for rural application. Data acquisition took place through experimentation on a full scale experimental platform according to a central composite experimental design. Variables used for the experimentation included; Stream Velocity, Delivery Head, Number of Coils, Discharge, Number of Paddles, Paddle-Wheel rotational speed Overall HCP efficiencies of up to 22 percent were obtained. The efficiency would drop as the stream velocity increased. Stream velocity has been identified as the most influential factor with regards to the variables analysed by this study. The HCP is ideal for rural application. The simplicity of the design ensures reliability as well as an effective water supply solution. The HCP is ideal for slow flowing rivers and can deliver up to 1190ℓ/h to a delivery head of 5m with a stream velocity of 1.2m/s. This is sufficient to supply a small rural community with running water.

Abstract:
This thesis studies the optimal design for a photovoltaic-powered medium-head (30 meters) water pumping system, with the emphasis on improving the efficiency and reducing the maintenance requirements of the electrical subsystem. The reduction of maintenance requirements is realized by replacing the conventional brush-type permanent magnet dc motor with a brushless dc (BLDC) motor. Different BLDC motor control techniques such as position-sensorless operation, sinusoidal and trapezoidal excitations are investigated. The improvement in efficiency is achieved by maximizing the output power from the photovoltaic array and by minimizing the losses in various parts of the electrical sub-system. A microprocessor-based double-loop maximum power tracking scheme is developed for maximization of the photovoltaic array output power. Over 99% utilization factor is achieved for a typical clear day regardless of the season of the year. The system losses are minimized mainly by performing loss analysis and selecting most suitable switching topologies and switching components. Experimental results show that the combined converter-motor efficiency is comparable to those of high-efficiency brush-type dc motor systems.<br>Applied Science, Faculty of<br>Electrical and Computer Engineering, Department of<br>Graduate

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper presents a method for online vibration analysis and a simple test bench analogue for the solder pumping system in an industrial wave-soldering machine at a Siemens factory. A common machine fault is caused by solder build-up within the pipes of the machine. This leads to a pressure drop in the system, which is replicated in the test bench by restricting the flow of water using a gate valve. The pump’s vibrational response is recorded using an accelerometer. The captured data is passed through an online Bayesian Changepoint Detection algorithm, adapted from existing literature, to detect the point at which the change in flow rate affects the pump, and thus the PCB assembly capability of the machine. This information can be used to trigger machine maintenance operations, or to isolate the vibrational response indicative of the machine fault.

Abstract:
An autoclave is a machine used in labs to sterilize items by applying heat and pressure to kill pathogens like bacteria and viruses. It uses saturated steam to destroy contaminants, making it useful in various fields including dentistry and microbiology. Autoclaves have evolved from basic steam sterilizers to advanced versions. They work by removing air, pumping in steam under pressure, and maintaining a high temperature to sterilize items. Safety precautions include proper training, not overcrowding, and using autoclavable materials. Not everything can be autoclaved; materials like glass, metals, and certain plastics are suitable, while flammable or toxic substances are not. Proper usage and maintenance are vital to prevent accidents.
