A modeling method termed as the discrete time hybrid Diagnosis (DTHD) is presented to constructure models for a hydraulic punching machine. The DTHD method is an extension of the works on FDD (the fault detection and diagnosis) which are based on FSM-based modeling. FDD of DTHD models are suited for real time systems because of their capability of detecting faults leading to failures in terms of erroneous delays and deadlines. The occurrences of faults or failures are represented for individual system components by categorizing the set of states of each individual system component model into normal or failed conditions of various types. The condition corresponding to the states (of a component model) are represented by an unmeasurable variable. The components are then composed to produce the overall representation of failures on the whole system model with a single unmeasurable variable.

Abstract:
The punching process with CNC is getting more and more important in the modern metal stamping field. But it is still difficult to realize NC punching the Chinese characters in manufacturing. Furthermore, it is expensive for processing forms of Chinese characters like thread cutting, laser cutting, etc. In addition, the ability to process the characters in a large size is restricted by the efficiency and the size of the machine. Therefore, this paper shows the details about programmable automation which is used in the characters processing on CNC punching machine. The content includes: getting the font parameter of character from DXF file, building the curve function for contour of characters, and creating G code for NC punching process. This technic provides a new method on processing big-size Chinese characters. And this technology can improve the efficiency and precision, and reduce the distortion of contour gotten by traditional program.

Abstract:
Abstract: Mulching has long been used to conserve soil moisture, manage weeds, modify soil temperature, and create a microclimate for plants. There are a variety of strategies for improving crop growing conditions, including increasing productivity and reducing the amount of water necessary to grow the crops. However, mulching paper, also known as agricultural film, is one of the most effective ways to cover the soil and keep the crop in the right environment This mulching paper comes in a varietyof varieties, but because plastic mulching is well-known for requiring less effort, we've chosen to work on an automatic mulching paper laying machine that also includes a drip laying attachment. Moisture in the soil is critical for crop survival in arid environments. Mulching with plastic paper film around theroot area of plants prevents weed growth while also storing water and preventing soil dehydration, however this method takes a lot of money and time. So the 'Mulching paper laying machine with hole punching' will save money and time because it will handle both chores at once, laying mulching paper and punching holes in the ground. A body, a mainframe with hoeing blades, hole punching wheels, drip role holder, and punching mechanism make up the plastic mulch laying machine. The mulch was laid on the prepared plantation bed by the machine in conjunction with the drip pipe. This will lay mulch onthe bed without destroying it, as well as punch the holes to the desired dimensions. The product might be used in agriculture to grow tomatoes, watermelons, muskmelons, and other hybrid varieties of crops. Bylowering the capital cost and time of laying the mulching paper using the most convenient way, as well as installing the drip irrigation pipe in one pass of the machine, it will be simple for the farmer. This master thesis was performed at the Mechanical department at Outotec AB,Skellefte˚a. Outotec AB is a technology company as well as a project company, sell-ing complex mining technology and plant projects. Outotec’s technologies are usedfor applications such as producing base metals, processing iron ore etc. Outotec isrunning a program called ‘Fully automated smelter’ where manual hazardous workmust be avoided. A machine which automatically replaces punching bars on thepunching machine is needed. This thesis project aimed to investigate if the punching bar changer will be aproprietary purpose-build machine or an industrial robot. The five-step conceptgeneration method was used for concept development during this thesis project. For gathering knowledge and information about the project area, experts have beeninterviewed to obtain information for the start of the project. The gathered infor-mation and knowledge from interviews and literature studies have been used as abase when the concepts were generated. Seven concepts were generated and evalu-ated using a screening matrix. The concept that best satisfied the set requirementswere further developed, designed and simulated. The two scenarios have been in-vestigated and a design concept of the proprietary purpose-built machine has beenpresented. The result from concept evaluation and simulation indicated that bothalternatives are applicable in this area. But to make a decision a more in-depthcalculation of the associated cost and investigation of the design is necessary.

Abstract:
This master’s thesis has been elaborated as a part of master’s studies of engineering technology M2I-K, major in M-STM – Engineering technology and industrial management and deals with the problem of a transition to a self-production of previously purchased distance washers. Distance washers were purchased in six different types of similar shape, each type in four different thicknesses. One of these types was chosen as a representative for this master’s thesis. We shall explore the possibilities of self-production with the emphasis on economical validation of the transition. The distance washer is a flat part, the intermediate being sheet metal. Technologies considered for manufacturing the washers correspond to the technical facilities and equipment available at the production hall of the company this project is planned for. The company possesses technology for CO2 laser cutting, cutting by CNC punching machine and cutting in the punching tool. To provide a complex overview we shall also enquire into cooperated technologies such as water jet and plasma cutting, oxy-acetyleny cutting and CNC working. All options are evaluated with regard to the production expenses and lead to a most economically plausible method of manufacturing or, if need be, give reasons for going back to purchasing the part from the current supplier.

This research is to develop innovative and efficient punching machines. First of all, we did some research on the commercial punching machine’s mechanism and found out that the commercial punching machine could not effectively reduce the output for the users, and during the punching process, some uneven application of the force would hinder punching action. In order to allocate the users output effectively under the limited mechanical advantage, this study designs the mechanism of a set of four-bar linkage between the swing arm and the gear for the geared-type punching machine. The input and the output rods of the four-bar linkage are respectively connected with the swing arm and the gear. In order to achieve the purpose of saving users’ effort, this research increases mechanical advantage when resistance is large and reduces mechanical advantage when resistance is low. In this research, we collected, classified, and analyzed some patents from different countries. According to the design requirements and limited conditions, we generalized the synthesis for some types of mechanism, and tested the commercial punching machines for dynamic analysis, strength testing, mechanical advantage calculation, and data integration. From the above results, we first designed the mechanism of four-bar linkage, and then synthesized different dimensional components. After synthesizing, we used the AutoCAD software and designed the 3D smaller parts of the components in order to simulate its movement and to verify the new design of this efficient punching machine’s mechanism can work properly without any interference.

Abstract:
The bending of complex curved sheet metals of ship hull has long been a challenge in shipbuilding yard on account of some inherent defects of the traditional forming processes such as the line heating. This paper presents a novel incremental bending process based on punching to obtain complex curved steel plates in order to take the place of those inefficient traditional forming processes of ship hull. The presented incremental bending process is carried out by a series of stepping punches, so it is also defined as incremental punching in this work. By means of this process, the blank plate that is fixed and held by a flexible supporting system can incrementally be bent to the target shape by a press tool with a planned tool trajectory one step after another. Meanwhile, in order to improve geometric accuracy of the formed work-piece, a 3D scanning feedback system is applied to measure the deformation of the work-piece during the forming process. Three dimensional shape of the formed work-piece can be imaged and rebuilt with a large amount of point cloud data by the 3D scanning feedback system. Then the difference between the rebuilt model of the formed work-piece and the target CAD-model can be acquired, which can be used for feedback control of the forming accuracy if necessary. To validate the presented forming process, an original incremental punching prototype was designed and manufactured, which is mainly composed of a 3-axis CNC machine, a flexible supporting system and a 3D scanning feedback system. A forming experiment of a gradual curvature steel plate was carried out using this prototype and is discussed in detail in this paper in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed incremental bending process of complex curved steel plate.

Abstract:
The production of micro-components in high quantities by means of cutting plays a central role in the area of metal forming. Generally, these components are manufactured with mechanical high speed presses with modified drive kinematics which provide stroke rates of up to 4,000 strokes per minute (spm) and punching forces of up to 2,000 kN. Depending on the application, this may result in a significant oversizing both in terms of maximum cutting force and size of the punching machine. This leads to higher production costs due to increased space and energy consumption which could be improved by a better adaptability of the machine to the process. To fulfill both requirements, a prototype of an electromagnetically driven punch machine with highly efficient resonance drive and miniaturization potential is proposed in this paper. Electromagnetic actuators induce oscillations of a mass-spring system at its resonance frequency by storing potential energy in the system’s springs. An advantage of the resonance propulsion is that only magnets with low nominal force are needed, since only small forces are necessary during the swing-up. The resulting oscillation frequency can be adjusted for the given task by using a modular concept with exchangeable springs. After discussing the concept and essentials, the requirements and constraints are pointed out. Subsequently, a model of the system is created and an energy based bang-bang control concept is implemented utilizing model based filter techniques. Based on the simulation results a test rig was built and obtained measurements were compared to the simulation data. The test rig provides stroke rates up to 2,000 spm and cutting forces up to 20 kN. A prototype, which will be able to achieve higher stroke rates and cutting forces will be part of future work.

Abstract:
Abstract C-frames constitute a large portion of machine tools that are currently used in industry. Examples of these frames include drilling machines, presses, punching and stamping machines, clamps, hooks, etc. The design parameters of these frames include the dimensions of their cross-sections, which should be chosen to withstand the applied loads and minimize the element’s overall weight. Traditionally, the cross-section of C-frame belonged to a set of primitive shapes, which included I, T, trapezoidal and rectangular sections. This paper introduces a new methodology for designing the frame’s cross-section. The cross-sectional shape is represented using non-uniform rational B-Spline (NURBS) in order to give it a form of shape flexibility. A special form of genetic algorithms known as real-coded genetic algorithms is used to conduct the search for the design objectives.
