Abstract:
Purpose: To assess changes in the tear film and delayed tear drainage after upper or lower, or combined upper and lower, punctal occlusion using dissolvable polydioxanone plugs in patients with dry eye. Methods: In total, 40 dry eye patients (80 eyes) were enrolled: four groups of 10 (20 eyes) with no, lower, upper, and lower and upper punctal occlusions. Dissolvable polydioxanone plugs were placed. The tear break-up time (tBUT) and the tear meniscus height (TMH) were measured, and the Schirmer I test and dye disappearance test (DDT) were performed at baseline and 2 weeks after the procedure.Re

Background: To compare the short-term anatomical and functional outcomes of, as well as patient satisfaction with, lacrimal stenting and three-snip punctoplasty for the treatment of punctal stenosis or occlusion.
Methods: In this open-label, randomized clinical trial, we included 50 eyes of 30 patients diagnosed with punctal stenosis or occlusion. They were randomly allocated to two groups of 25 eyes each, using central telephone randomization. Group A underwent a lacrimal stenting procedure and was subdivided into two subgroups: Group A1 (13 eyes) received polyvinylpyrrolidone-coated pe

Abstract:
Punctal plugs are popular device used for treatment of dry eyes. The SmartPlug, with its special thermodynamic properties, has the advantage to conform to the shape of the punctal ampulla and proximal canaliculus, and offers effective occlusion. However, SmartPlug related complications are not uncommon and surgical interventions are often required for management of persistent infection. This is a report of two middle-aged Asian women who developed chronic lacrimal canaliculitis after insertion of the SmartPlug Punctal Plug. Attempts at removing the SmartPlug failed and prolonged topical antibi

A diagnosis of KCS is based on the characteristic clinical signs, such as keratitis and conjunctivitis, and on a decreased Schirmer tear test (STT) value less than 8-10 mm/min. In the past 2 decades, parotid duct transposition and punctal occlusion with a silicone punctal plug were used to treat the canine KCS in veterinary medicine, however, the technique of surgical punctal occlusion for human KSC was developed

Abstract:
The common complaint of a watering eye may be caused by a variety of problems, including lacrimal hyposecretion, lacrimal hypersecretion, or blockage of the lacrimal drainage system. This system is a complex membranous channel whose function depends on the interaction of anatomy and physiology. Effective tear drainage depends on a variety of factors, including the volume of tear secretion, eyelid position, and anatomy of the lacrimal drainage passages. Epiphora is defined as an abnormal overflow of tears down the cheek. The patient with symptomatic tearing may have a normal lacrimal drainage s
