Abstract:
The Puranas (“Tales of former times”) are a kind of presentation of the “history” of the world. In the Puranas, in comparison with the previous literature, much attention is paid to the idea of time. In these huge works devoted to the history of the creation of the universe and its consistent description, the entire universe is presented as a manifestation of the supreme deity (depending on the direction of the Purana it could be Vishnu or Shiva). The importance of the temporal component is explained by the fact that the supreme god has not only a material, “bodily” manifestation in the form of Purusha (a being from which the universe originated), but also in the form of Kala (kala), i.e., time. Indirectly, the length of time in the Puranas is related to the “length” of the text (the duration of its reading or reproduction), which affects the volume of these works, they include a huge corpus of works, ranging from mythological and ritual texts, ending with treatises on various branches of knowledge. The key to the formal integrity of the Puranas is that all texts, even highly specialized ones, are processed in accordance with some general guidelines. At the same time, a temporary component appears in the presentation of any topic. This has even affected texts such as vastuvidya (texts on construction and architecture), which are devoted to the category of space rather than time, since they set out the principles of organizing and sanctifying the space of any man-made objects and their surroundings. In the Puranas, the past appears in vastuvidya texts. This is a kind of “history” of the origin of the main rituals (for example, the history of the appearance of the vastu-mandala). But the main direction of time is the future. Recommendations about the most preferred sizes, proportions, and layouts are supported by predictions about how this will affect the fate of residents of buildings under construction. For this purpose, the folk tradition of fortune-telling and signs is used. The article shows these and other ways in which the highly specialized text of vastuvidya is transformed into a “puranic” text.

Abstract:
This paper sheds light on the intriguing ancient love story of Ritudwaj and Maladsha that is recounted in the Markandeya Purana, this paper investigates the classical account of the Purana. The Eastern world today is more familiar with Western classical love stories like Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Wuthering Heights, and Gone with the Wind, But Eastern readers have forgotten their classical legends. Ritudwaj and Madalasha's profound love is depicted in this undersea fantasy tale that delves into the classic love tale. This Pauranic tale is lovelier than Snow White or Cinderella. The researcher wishes to draw attention to the fact that our Puranas and other religious texts contain such beautiful love stories lost within the pages of such texts. This research aims to a) Highlight the ancient classical tale from Markandeya Purana. b) To open a venue for further research on such tales. The methodology used is exploratory based on the qualitative approach. This research is based on content study.

The central focus of this paper is on the geographical elements like mountains, rivers and places mentioned in the Puranas. Among them, Bhagavatamahapurana has mainly been consulted for this purpose. The source indicates that the names of the mountains and rivers are similar even today as they were in the ancient period. The paper describes the fact that no one can find out the exact knowledge about the universe. The universe is with in the subject of the Vedic Cosmology. This cosmology has also been narrated in the Puranas. The universe is endless and has no limited boundary. All the living beings that appear today were created by the God and at last merge into the God. This tradition continues. The atheists do not believe the God. However, they accept the nature as all in all.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ttp.v13i0.11537The Third PoleVol. 13, 2013Page : 1-6

Abstract:
Ancient Sanskrit Puranas are literary heritage of India. They are studied from different perspectives but appeared largely neglected from the viewpoint of plant invasion in Indian territory. The present attempt dealt with the alien plant species as encoded in Sanskrit plant names in various verses of Kurma Purana. As many as 24 alien plant species belong to 23 genera of 16 families of angiosperms. They are analysed carefully floristically, habital categories and status regarding cultivation or naturalization. They are also studied for their nativity consulting relevant taxonomic literature. The data indirectly also indicated about utilities and awareness about classification of plants based on habits. Such investigations are warranted for better understanding of the development of natural wealth in past.

Abstract: the article deals with the problem of the content structure of the BhagavataPurana, the most representative sacred text from the list of the main eighteen Puranas (the so-called “historical chronicles”) of classical Hinduism. Revealed ten-term composition of the Bhagavata, which are the characteristics of the so-called the mahapurana (“great purana”). Then, the variability of ideas about the location of these ten topics within the Bhagavata itself is considered on the example of the teachings of teachers in the Gaudiya tradition (Bengal Vaishnavism). The opposite positions of such representatives of the tradition as Jiva Goswami (XVI century) and Vishvanatha Chakravarti (XVII–XVIII century) find their synthetic expression in Prabhupada’s teaching (XX century), the latest representative of the school.

Abstract:
The Ashwamedha yagya is one of the most important ritualistic practices in Indian culture and society. It was performed to uplift human consciousness and refine mass consciousness. The Puranas serve as excellent sources for understanding the history of Indian society, containing information about lineages, dynasties, and their actions. The present study aims to provide an overview of instances where accounts of the Ashwamedha yagya were performed in history. Instances of Ashwamedh yagya are ample in the Puranas. Ashwamedha Yagya in the Chandravanshi (Lunar Dynasty) (Mahabharat era), Ikshvaku Dynasty (Ramayan era), Ashwamedha Yagya in Other Great Dynasties including beyond Ramayan era, and Ashwamedha Yagya by the Great Sages are noted in the present perspective review. Furthermore, stories of the performance of the Ashwamedha Yagya abound in the Puranas, indicating that these rituals were among the most sacred and highly revered events in ancient Indian culture.

Polemics emerge when religion is faced to the fact that there are supposedly visitation of intelligent beings from other planets in many cases from ancient times up to now. Vedic literature as basis of Hindu religious teachings is one of many religious resources which can be used as reference to this inquiry. This descriptive-qualitative study aims to (1) clarify whether Vedic Scriptures mention about extraterrestrial life, or intelligent life outside Planet Earth, and (2) enlist categories of extraterrestrial life as mentioned in the Vedic Scriptures. The methods used are literature study and documentary. Result of the study reveals that Vedic Scriptures, especially the four Vedas, Puranas and Itihasas clearly mention about existence of extraterrestrial species (alien beings) and their interactions with humans since the Vedic era. These extraterrestrial beings are of different categories which are more elaborately enlisted in some major Puranic literatures.

Abstract:
Over the past thirty years, academic dialogues on the relationships between the sciences and religions have flourished, albeit primarily within Judeo-Christian historical, theological and philosophical contexts. Can a Hindu tradition be brought into this dialogue? The Bhagavata Purana is one of the most well-known sacred texts of India, and biology, Darwinism in particular, has become one of the most spirited areas of the science and religion dialogue in academia, as well as in the popular media. This thesis examines the possibility, scope and foundational topics involved in a dialogue between Vaisnava-Hindu theology as found in the Bhāgavata, and the theoretical, philosophical and theological issues surrounding contemporary biology. To examine the possibility and scope of a Bhāgavata-science dialogue, I focus on the theological, ontological, epistemological and teleological presuppositions that each tradition bring to the study of nature, outlining the similarities and differences in their approaches. I establish the grounds for further discussion through a comparative analysis of terms such as "consciousness," "knowledge" and "goal of knowledge" as they appear in the Bhagavata and noteworthy Darwinian texts. My argument is that although prima facie the two traditions appear different in their philosophical, scientific and theological approaches, there are a number of areas of common interest and parallels, especially in their epistemologies and teleologies. In the case of genuine differences, such as their views on the ontology of consciousness, I demonstrate the possibility of reconciliation. Clarifying the conceptual differences, establishing parallels and demonstrating areas of common interests opens the possibility and widens the scope for further dialogue.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the issue of lineage in the Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Vaisnava sampradiiya. In the South Asian context, the idea of sampradiiya or lineage guarantees the authenticity of a religious community. A widely accepted view designated the followers of Ramanuja, Madhva, Nirnbarka, and Visnu Svarni as the four sampradiiyas. Starting with Kavi Karnapiira in the 16th CE, the Gaudiyas claimed their affiliation with Madhva. This claim for the Madhva-Gaudiya affiliation was consolidated as late as in the 18th CE. At the time, the Gaudiyas rose to the prominence at the court of Jaisingh H. However, in his public role Jaisingh H wished to promote the image of being a righteous king (dharmartija). Thus, the king perceived ,the following aspects of the Gaudiya tradition problematic: (1) the Gaudiyas ' ambiguous sampradiiya affiliation, (2) their lack of any BraSii commentary, and (3) the extramarital relationship between Radha and Krsna. In response, Baladeva wrote the Govindabhiisya to solidify the authority of the Gaudiya tradition. To understand the nature of the Madhva-Gaudiya affiliation, the first part of the thesis examines the sampradiiya affiliation of Caitanya. I make a distinction between a formal affiliation and a theological affiliation, and suggest that Caitanya might have been formally affiliated with the Madhvas but his theological affiliation is unclear. Since Caitanya did not compose any theological works, I examine Jiva's theology instead, to understand the theological relation between the Gaudiyas and the Madhvas. For this purpose, the second part of the thesis compares the commentaries of Madhva, Vijayadhvaja, Sridhara, and Jiva on the Catuhslokibhiigavata. This comparative study makes it clear that Jiva's commentary differs from the rest, theologically, exegetically, and stylistically. With the background of what is discussed in the first two parts of the thesis, the last part of the thesis examines Baladeva's Govindabhiisya in relation to the Brahmasiitra commentaries of Sankara, Rarnanuja, and Madhva. I conclude that the Gaudiya affiliation with the Madhvas is formal but their affiliation with Brahma is theological.

We also show that groups of pure braids, denoted by PBpnq, groups that have the trivial permutation of the strings, are bi-orderable, that is, we will present the explicit construction of a strict total ordering of pure braids PBpnq which is invariant under multiplying on both sides. This process is given from the combination of the techniques of combing Artin and Magnus expansion to free groups.

Data on reproductive and performance traits of two purebred Large White lines (L1 and L2) and a crossbred line L3 (L1 X L2) were used to evaluate the genetic divergence between the two lines; estimate the direct heterosis and its effects over generations; study the genetic divergence between the genetic groups forming line L3; test different models for the genetic evaluation of line L3; and evaluate the occurrence of variance heterogeneity between genetic groups and its effect on swine classification via genetic value. The genetic divergence was evaluated using multivariate analysis; heterosis estimates were obtained by contrasts between the genetic group means; and the significance of contrasts between means was tested by t-statistics. Variance component estimates were obtained by restricted maximum likelihood (REML). REML was used to identify the most suitable model for swine genetic evaluation, with the restriction that in the one-trait model it was assumed homogeneous variances between the genetic groups, and in the three-trait model the expression of the trait in each genetic group was considered as a different trait. The order correlation between animal classification was obtained from the estimated genetic values in the two different models. The two evaluated purebred lines (L1 and L2) showed genetic divergence for both performance and reproductive traits. The estimates of direct heterosis for F1 generation was 8.74% for total born pigs (NLN), 8.50% for live born pigs (NLNV), 2.41% for daily weight gain (GPD) and absent for litter birth weight (PLN). The effect of heterosis on F2 and F3 generations only occurred for GPD, with reduction of the heterosis effect over the generations for NLN and xNLNV. The genetic groups forming L3 line (F1, F2 F1xF2 and F3) showed genetic divergence, and the grouping analysis indicated that they could be grouped in two clusters: Group I comprising F2, F1xF2 and F3, and Group II comprising only the F1 group. The three evaluated traits (NLNV, PLN and GPD) indicated the three-trait model as being the most suitable, proving the existence of variance heterogeneity between the studied genetic groups. The highest heritability estimates were obtained in the F3 group, and the lowest estimates in the F1 group, for the three traits. The order correlations indicate that the variance heterogeneity has more effect on animal classification for daily weight gain than for live born pigs and litter birth weight.

Abstract:
The paper applied a content analysis method to examine how myths and legends have been employed by the promotional organization in portraying New Zealand on the official tourism website. The assessment of the website uncovered six main legends which have been presented in the promotion of New Zealand to potential tourists. These traditional tales have been incorporated into the website chiefly as part of Maori heritage attributes in which purakau (the Maori term for legends) represents among crucial aspects in understanding their worldviews and cultural identities. Legends narrating fishing voyages involving demi gods offers a mythological explanation of the origin of the geological formation of islands of New Zealand were presented more than once on the website. Among the legends presented to readers on the websites encompass stories of Tane Mahuta, which depicts the tale of the sky father, the earth mother, and the creation of the world of light that humans live in today. Another unique legend, Paikea the whale rider, is featured as part of the description of a whale-watching attraction in Kaikoura, Christchurch. The overall analysis uncovered that legendary tales are incorporated into the website as the part historical origin of Maori people and in the promotion of several tourist attractions in New Zealand. From a tourism perspective, the representation of these tales enhances the appeal of destinations and make them stand out to visitors. The inclusion of the purakau offers tourists a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage of this country. Furthermore, Maori worldviews on the creation of the universe and formation of the natural environment are transpired. It is noticeable through these legends that Maori people strongly respect their ancestors and highly appreciated natural resources. Finally, the emphasis on environmental conservation and sustainability as ingrained in the tales further supported the overall promotional tagline of 100% Pure New Zealand and the inclusion of Tiaki Promise a commitment to care for New Zealand, for now, and for future generations on the official tourism website.
