Abstract:
Yair Mintzker's book on Jew Süss raises a series of provocative questions about German history and history itself, which this forum aims to address. Specifically, it presents four reflections on Mintzker's book that cover the following range of topics: Jay Howard Geller situates Mintzker's work within the historiography on Jewish biographies and antisemitic trials; Sarah Maza explores whether Mintzker pursues the venerable task of getting to the “truth” of who Joseph Oppeinhemer was, despite his claims to the contrary; Jesse Spohnholz considers Mintzker's book as a model of microhistory; and my essay takes a broader approach by confronting the central issue of self-interest in history.

Abstract:
The article is a review-reflection on the book Comparative Philosophy: from Comparative to Intercultural Philosophy, prepared mainly by employees of the Oriental Philosophy Department of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is noted that the book is the first most complete experience of intercultural philosophizing in the Russian philosophical space. Intercultural philosophy is substantiated as a meeting place for different points of view and philosophical traditions that promote mutual enrichment and stimulate further development in philosophy. Openness to different intellectual traditions while critically considering influences is a normal, natural situation in philosophy. At the same time, intercultural philosophy recognizes the inevitability of asymmetric influences with the potential equality of philosophical traditions, which can also have negative consequences, an example of which is sometimes the dominant influence of Western philosophy. It is indicated that intercultural philosophy proceeds from the idea of decentralization of philosophy, recognizes the issue of the origin of philosophy, which can have more than one beginning, as more difficult, advocates the rejection of Western centrism in philosophy. Within the framework of intercultural philosophy, important questions for the self-determination of philosophy are raised about the connection between philosophy and language, about the specifics of philosophical thinking, about the possibility of philosophical thinking that is different from the Western type of thinking, etc. Followers of intercultural philosophy pay attention to the fact that the periodization of the history of philosophy, methods, interpretive schemes adopted in Western philosophy often do not work on the material of other philosophical traditions. For this reason, followers of intercultural philosophy propose a new model of the history of philosophy, which favors problems over personalities, systems of thought, or countries, and recognizes the cultural determinism of philosophical thinking.

Abstract:
The two pieces introduced and briefly discussed in this article have so far remained unnoticed because of the manner of their notation. In each case pieces of two-voice polyphony were notated with the two voices separate, instead of in the score notation which has been usual since, roughly, the second half of the twelfth century. In the one case, the sequence Magnus deus in universa terra in a manuscript from Marchiennes of the fourteenth century, a second voice was added at the back of the book in which the usual melody had already been recorded. In the other case, the song Ad honorem regis summi in the so-called Codex Calixtinus, the two voices are notated successively, verse 1 of the text being given with the first voice, verse 2 with the second voice.

Abstract:
With the proliferation of comprehensive commercial microfilming of major music collections, careful consideration needs to be given to the production of hard-cover books of facsimiles that traverse the same ground. Of course, a book is still a convenient way of storing and handling certain kinds of material. In compensation for its bulk it is tangible, accessible and portable, not to mention the fact that it can be annotated. And certain kinds of facsimile volume are obviously still going to be desirable: those reproducing single sources of great importance; those containing the contents of smaller libraries and obscure or less accessible collections; and those that comprise within a single volume an important cross-section of some scattered repertory or corpus of sources. In the light of those considerations, the publication of these two volumes of facsimiles of late-medieval English polyphony is most welcome. They make widely available at reasonable quality and price a vast amount of buried treasure found up to now only in the file drawers of a few specialists. The hoard consists of a large proportion of the surviving English polyphony from the era between the Worcester fragments and the Old Hall manuscript. This is an important and little-known repertory, spanning the entire fourteenth century but dispersed among numerous fragmentary sources. Both volumes will be necessary and welcome additions to public collections as well as to the private libraries of specialists in medieval music. They are also an essential complement to the four-volume edition of this same repertory recently published by Editions de L'Oiseau Lyre in the series Polyphonic Music of the Fourteenth Century, and they will surely prove invaluable for the teaching of surveys and seminars on early English polyphony.

Abstract:
The proposed article is based on the corpus of historical sources of the 18th century and is devoted to the study of the singers of bishops of Pereyaslav. We found documentary evidence of the singers in 9 of the 14 bishops of Pereyaslav. According to the traditional order at the episcopal cathedrals of the Hetmanate, during the services, only the monks (kryloshany) sang. This tradition can be eloquently traced in the Pereyaslav Ascension Cathedral and other monasteries of the Pereyaslav eparchy during the 1720-1740s. The total number of singers in the cathedral monastery ranged from 5 to 9 people. At the head of the monks were two ustavnyky, who ruled the right and left choirs. And only in 1722, by a special decree, the Most Holy Governing Synod unified the rules, which primarily concerned the Ukrainian eparches. Since then, the order for the service of 10 singers has been established in the bishop's houses. Despite this, even before the decree was issued, vicar bishop Cyryl Szumlański was served by his own singers, led by the regent. The presence of the regent can be traced in the service of the next vicar bishop Joachim Strukov. Both the church monody and the polyphony sounded in the cathedral. We draw this conclusion from the available music books. Bishop Joakim Strukov in Pereyaslav owned the Heirmologia with musical notation, and in the time of Bishop Arseniy Berlo in the cathedral the musical-theoretical treatise of Mikołaj Dilecki "Musical Grammar" was rewritten. On the cover of this manuscript it was stated that one day a solemn partesnyi concert was performed. In connection with the last musical manuscript, the bishop's intention to introduce and consolidate innovations in the field of music education can be traced, when the aim of the students was to master the art of partes singing at a qualitatively better level. In addition to the above, this thesis is confirmed by information from the life of the singer of one of the previous bishops, when the teaching of partes singing took place outside Pereyaslav. The bishops' singers were called "pivchi" in authentic terminology, which we see both in documents from the archives of the Most Holy Governing Synod in St. Petersburg and in local documents from Pereyaslav. Beginning with the act sources of 1760 and at least until 1782, the group of bishop's singers was called "vocal music". During the same period, there is another name for this vocal group, which was used for internal use - "pivcha", which probably meant primarily a separate room where the singers lived. The choir was financed, first of all, from the bishop's treasury. And the singers received additional income by collecting money from the parishioners in a "singing mug", a special container for donations. According to expenditure sources, the funds received went to sewing, repairs, as well as the purchase of clothing and footwear. Among the information found in the sources about the singers, the total number of which reaches 29 names, not counting the mentioned singers without names and monks, we find representatives of various social stratum - children of clergy, Cossacks, burghers, commoners. For many of them, singing in the cathedral choir was not only an opportunity to earn a steady income, but also served as a springboard for career growth, for the rank of priest, or a place as a singer in one of the imperial capital choirs. In the second half of the 18th century there is a certain pattern, when most singers were disadvantaged, mostly orphans. In the life of the Pereyaslav bishops there were contacts with secular musicians-instrumentalists. In the 1720s, a bandura player served to vicar bishop Joachim Strukov. In the early 1780s, Hilarion Kondratkovskyi used the services of military musicians for solemn greetings during church holidays.

Abstract:
Books of medieval polyphony were relatively short-lived by comparison with other forms of book. Once their contents had become outdated, they were often broken up and used as scrap parchment. The debris from a few of these books survives in bindings and as wrappers for documents. The evidence for the existence of others must be sought in medieval administrative records: wills drawn up by individuals, documents emanating from royal and noble households and, above all, the financial and administrative acta of the greater churches. From these materials it is possible to hint at the scale of past losses and to recover, from titles quoted in full or in part, information about small sections of vanished repertories. It is possible also to trace patterns in the ownership and dissemination of written polyphony and to identify something of the structure and dynamics of its production.

Abstract:
The thesis´ aim is to deepen the understanding about what shapes and characterises the purchase process for management advice services. Such externally, acquired services have increased substantially, and in relation to the services´ impact on management decisions the theoretical and practical understanding of the purchase process is lagging behind. The thesis´ analyses, interpretations and conclusions are founded on empirical data collected by use of focus groups, and based on activity theory. The findings show that the purchase process is influenced by many actors who see themselves as subject in the process. They have similar but also conflicting objects that they want to fulfil. The outcome of the purchase process is influenced by contradictory opinions among the actors about how to organize and supervise the process. The main contradictions are influenced by the actors´ different objects and how they interpret the context of the purchase process. The context is shaped by such as leadership style, social rules regarding management of change and opinions about division of labour in the purchase process. The impression of the purchase process´s character is that commonly used supply chain models do not work as a characterization. The purchase process´s phases do not follow on each other and the glue that links the phases is not a rational procedure following one, firm route. The findings show that procurement, integration and follow-up phases overlap, are concurrent and integrated in each other. The purchase process reproduces the execution of polyphonic music in which different voices, each with its own melody, create a rich texture of sounds. In a similar way the purchase process is coined by actors who bring their own objects and competence into the process. It produces dissonance, as in polyphonic music. It mirrors the services character of competence development and shapes the purchase process as polyphonic rather than a rational, step by step process.

碩士
國立高雄第一科技大學
資訊管理所
98
The emerging E-book incorporates the consumer characteristics of new technical products, digital contents sourcing and obtaining, and the security of E-business transaction; therefore, these three factors are essential for the future development of E-book. We analyze the consumers’ purchase intention E-book through product innovativeness, product design and consumer innovativeness. According to above, this research is based on Rogers’ “Diffusion of Innovations” and Holak’s “New Product Adoption Model” as the theoretical foundations, incorporates the concept of product design and consumer innovativeness, and considers E-book product characteristics and the general market condition. Our research purposes are to understand the behavior why innovative consumers would buy E-book, and the target market of E-book. We focus on the target research samples who are E-book potential users, and the surey was conducted via the Internet. There are total 360 effective samples. The statistical softwares SPSS 13.0 and Visual PLS 1.04 are used to analyze the survey data. The research findings are as follows: 1、There is an obvious positive relation between product innovativeness and E-book purchasing intention. That is, when an innovative product has advantage and compatibility, consumers will have intention to use E-book. 2、There is an obvious positive relation between product design and consumer purchasing intention, and it represents when the product functional design, human-centered design and appearance design can meet consumers’ requirements, consumers will be more willing to use E-book. 3、There is an obvious positive relation between consumer innovativeness and E-book purchasing intention, and it represents when consumers have higher innovation acceptance level, their purchase intention of E-book will be greater. The research contributes the following results to both industry and academy. For academy, this research is different from most of previous studies that used “Technology Acceptance Model” to discuss new information technology purchase intention. This research combines “Diffusion of Innovations” and “New Product Adoption Model” to understand the consumers’ E-book purchase intention. For industry, this study suggests that when initializing a new E-book product, product managers are expected to focus on the product innovativeness, the product and pricing strategies, and the innovative consumers.

Abstract:
碩士
中華大學
企業管理學系碩士班
99
Reading is the source of knowledge as well as the motive force of civilization. With the progress of the times, human lifestyles change significantly; the channels for purchasing books, approach to reading and reading interest are also of great diversity. Recently, governments regard the carbon reduction as a prior task, rendering corporations to develop electronic books and readers that might replace traditional papers. Therefore, the reading behavior of consumers will invariably change. This present study aims to investigate the difference of purchasing behavior of books among different groups of people in a perspective of market segmentation for understanding the demand of readers. In order to achieve the research purpose, market segmentation of the book market in Taiwan was processed according to the consumers’ reading motive and lifestyle. We explored and discussed the difference of purchasing behavior of books among groups of people under different market segmentation conditions. We carried out a questionnaire survey; subjects consisted of office workers and college students. Three hundred valid questionnaires were obtained and analyzed. Based on cluster analysis, consumers were classified into four types: “for current events”, “for self-studying”, “for multi-objectives” and “for entertainments”. The results showed that there are noticeable differences of age, income and purchasing behavior of books among each group. Finally, specific suggestions are given for the book stores and retailers to design a sound marketing strategy.

Abstract:
AbstractIt is wrongly assumed that the environmental sustainability of the building organism is only achievable thanks to the contribution of the systems and their ability to reduce harmful emissions and generate energy from alternative and natural sources. So, system projects have assumed an increasingly considerable importance both in terms of the quantity of documents and the cost of the building. The quantity and complexity of the most recent plant engineering solutions amplify the difficulty of dialogue between the different design levels (architectural, structural, and system design) forcing the professionals involved to compromise that end up disregarding the expected quality. Although it is now clear that the design levels must progress hand in hand from the first hypotheses, and that all must contribute equally to the overall sustainability of the intervention, this does not always happen by preferring to derogate from the system designers the choice of environmentally sustainable solutions. In summary, more and more, often we rely on the technical solutions of the machines used, rather than on the technological qualities of the project. This inevitably involves problems in the construction, operation, and eventual decommissioning phase of the building, especially in the public sphere where the low economic resources of the contracting stations are increasingly used in the purchase, maintenance, management, and disposal of plant engineering tools. A well-structured regulatory system can help to minimize these criticalities: this is the case of law 338, enacted in 2000 with the aim of increasing the availability of residences for university students, which is distinguished for the attention to the environmental issue, orienting the realization of accommodation places towards solutions able to contain waste, soil consumption, etc. The paper aims to describe and analyse the attention paid by the specific legislation to environmental sustainability.

Abstract:
Abstract The American scholar Marvin Albert Carlson (b. 1935), who has taught theatre and drama at Cornell and Indiana University, is perhaps best known for his authoritative contributions to the history of the French, German, and Italian theatre from the eighteenth century onwards. Professor Carlson’s interests have extended from theatre history into the field of theatre theory in general and theatre semiotics in particular. The following essay from his book on the latter subject highlights a hitherto insufficiently theorized aspect of performance.

Full text
Abstract:
Kai Kaus ibn Iskandar, an eleventh-century ruler of provinces south of the Caspian Sea in what is today Iran, was the author of the Qabus nameh (The Book of Qabus), a history of his grandfather with extensive commentary, which includes a section On the Purchase of Slaves. It is a book that, along with Nizam al-Mulk’s Siyasat nameh, is considered one of the classics of early medieval Persian literature. The book itself contains many sections divided into forty- four chapters, providing advice on love, politics, sports, and everyday matters. Like the Siyasat nameh, the Qabus nameh is part of the Persian genre known as “Mirrors for Princes”—books intended to serve as guides for young princes on how to conduct affairs of state as well as their private lives. (In English translation, the Qabus nameh has been given the title A Mirror for Princes). Kai Kaus dedicated the text to his son Gilanshah.

Abstract The first book of the Policraticus by John of Salisbury is devoted to a discussion of courtly frivolities, which include, among others, gaming, music, miming, and magic. There is no intent to slander music by placing it in this company, we are told. It is, after all, a liberal art; its use in the divine service is sanctioned by the Scriptures and by the Church Fathers; and it is shown by Plato, the prince of all philosophers, to be governed by the very ratios which govern the harmony of the soul. But music has been corrupted:

Abstract:
The factors of book acquisition are considered using the tools of sociological science. A telephone survey in 2024 (sample size – 900 respondents) showed that an important factor influencing the acquisition of book products is the volume of reading practices. According to the study, people began to read less than 5–10 years ago. In addition, the trends in the development of the digital space have determined the popularity of the audiovisual format for familiarization with the content of the book, due to which the demand for book products on the market is objectively decreasing.

Panić, Aleksandra. "MULTI-LAYERED DIALOGUE IN LANA BASTAŠIĆ'S THE RED SUITCASE AS A PRACTICE FOR SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION." In Proceeding of the Thirteenth International Conference at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. Alfa BK University Belgrade, 2024. https://doi.org/10.46793/lld24.091p.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper analyzes the multi-layered dialogue in Lana Bastašić's The Red Suitcase (Crveni kofer) as a practice for social transformation. The Red Suitcase is a hybrid narrative composed of autobiographical, epistolary-diary entries and black-and- white photographs, documenting the author’s residency in Switzerland from March 10 to July 13, 2021. The hybrid nature of the book is reflected not only in the merging of text and photography but also in the blending of different genre elements. This analysis explores the characteristics and functions of dialogue within the text, focusing on the themes of the relationship between writing and power, the fluid identity of the wandering, nomadic subject, the dichotomy of exile and home, and the question(s) of language. The theoretical framework of the paper draws on Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of polyphony and Kenneth Gergen’s theory of relational being, while Rosi Braidotti’s concept of the nomadic feminist subject is employed to analyze the specific fragmented but fluid and cohesive style of writing. The analysis identifies different layers of dialogue in various narrative frameworks: epistolary, diary, visual, intertextual, and autobiographical, as well as the socio-political dimensions of the text. The socio-political frame of the dialogue raises awareness about common societal and political issues, scrutinizing social norms and power structures. The narrator’s dialogue with the reader(s), sensibly woven into the background of the text invites engagement with philosophical reflections, fostering a deeper understanding of the work’s key issues such as understanding the experience of home and exile, questions of (non-)native language and translation, and understanding the author’s identity as a nomadic subject. The paper concludes that the strategic use of dialogic polyphony and the nomadic feminist subject in The Red Suitcase not only reflects the complexity of contemporary female identity but also opens possibilities for expanding the practice of transformative dialogue. This, in turn, contributes to imagining and creating different, more inclusive social realities.
