In a manufacturing company, certain departments can be characterized as production departments and others as service departments. Examples of service departments are purchasing, computing services, repair and maintenance, security, food services, and so forth. The costs of such service departments must be allocated to the production departments, which in turn will allocate them to the product. It is known that one can view the cost allocation problem as an absorbing Markov process, with the production departments as the absorbing states and the service departments as the transient states. Abstract:
AbstractWhen examining the acquisition of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) by most western defence departments, the close historical and military connections between these countries with the United States only go so far in terms of an explanation for why some have adopted this platform and others have not. Adoption is by no means automatic and the features of large military platform procurement processes, which are both long-term and involve very large expenditures, with their idiosyncratic nature, multiple actors and strategic policy directions, have played an important role in this area, just as they have when purchasing warships and other military equipment. In this chapter, we compare how Australia and Canada chose to operate when considering the replacement of their ageing F-18 multirole fighters. Again, this process features two very similar countries and the same weapons system, and the different outcome each has had in this case again reveals the significant factors concerning the processes which led to those decisions, and the impact of politics in explaining both the commonalities and differences in the defence procurement approaches of the two countries.

AbstractThis paper focuses on the consumption situation and discounting strategies of members in large department stores. On this basis, reasonable strategies and suggestions for discounting activities in department stores are proposed. It needs to determine the consumption habits of members, customer value, life cycle, discount effect and other information. The mathematical model was established to calculate the activation rate of non-active members in the life cycle of members, that is, the possibility of transforming from inactive members to active members. Based on the actual sales data, the relationship model between the activation rate and shopping mall promotion was determined. Generally speaking, the higher the commodity price is, the higher the profit will be. IA regression model of activation rate and promotion activities is developed. The appraisal index of market promotion activities is established in terms of both discounts and integral. Lasso regression is used for variable screening, and the correlation between activation rate and the above indicators is studied.

AbstractThis paper mainly studies the discount data of department store members. The researsh shows that the total supply of discounted goods and the number of reward points issued have the most significant relationship with customer activation rate, the increase of discount rate and coverage scale would increase the activation rate of inactive members and invalid members. The increase of the score rate may have a stronger incentive effect on active members, but it has no obvious incentive effect on inactive and ineffective members. In addition, by integrating the commodity records of each purchase, and analyzing association rules, commodity combinations with associated consumption relationships are obtained, and the analysis model of commodity portfolio association rules is established. This paper is mainly based on the data of the member information, the sale water meter, the member consumption detailed list, the merchandise information table, through the data processing and analysis, rejects the abnormal data, prepares for the following processing. By analyzing the characteristics of member consumption and the difference between member and non-member consumption, we can provide marketing suggestions for the store manager FP-growth Algorithm is designed to evaluate the purchasing power of members based on their gender, length of membership, age and consumption frequency, and each parameter of the model is explained, so as to improve the management level of the shopping mall. On this basis, Suggestions for promotional activities in shopping malls are given.

Abstract:
The Continental Army’s poor conditions at Valley Forge were due to several factors: the inefficient logistical system established by the Continental Congress, the poor leadership of the quartermaster general’s and commissary general’s departments, the lack of wagons and drivers, and the wild variations in weather because of the Little Ice Age (1300-1850). Congress created complex regulations governing the purchasing power and organization of the quartermaster general and commissariat meant to curb the growth of military power. Instead, the regulations created an inefficient logistical system that forced purchasing agents to use their own credit to purchase supplies and wait for reimbursement, which was often delayed. Congress divided authority in the commissary general’s department, with a commissary general for purchases and another for issues, and it required that the quartermaster general be physically present with congress rather than with the army. The men appointed to lead the departments or serving as purchasers were often unprepared for their responsibilities. Adding to the problem was the difficulty hiring or impressing wagons or drivers because of the poor pay offered in weak Continental dollars. Violent variations in weather which ranged from snow, freezing temperatures, rain, thawing, and flooding streams compounded the problems.

In turn, the purchasing function is crucial to the definition and implementation of a sustainability policy within the firm. This chapter combines a literature review with a qualitative study to show how information systems can and will contribute to the development of corporate sustainable purchasing policies. The chapter traces the development of new and innovative modes of sustainable purchasing management. Purchasing functions and information system departments work together to reduce the environmental footprint of technology and to exert greater influence on collaboration and teamwork by building an economic environment that is more viable and livable and also fairer.

Abstract:
Recommendation systems are critical tools used by marketing departments to provide customers with product recommendations. Data scientists also use recommendation system analysis to assess the effectiveness of product and service suggestions. There are two types of recommendation systems: content-based and collaborative filtering. Content-based recommendations are based on the customer's purchase history, while collaborative filtering suggests a product based on purchasing behavior. Collaborative filtering can be divided into content-based filtering, which suggests products based on similar purchasing behavior, and item-based filtering, which suggests products based on their attributes. User-based and item-based nearest-neighbor collaborative filtering and probabilistic methods are used to analyze data and provide product suggestions. Businesses rely on recommendation systems to achieve various objectives such as customer retention and increased ROI. RapidMiner can analyze data following the principles of the recommendation system, as demonstrated in this chapter, step-by-step.
