Mon Hypothèse de travail consiste à dire qu’il est possible d’instaurer une analogie ou une homologie ou isomorphisme entre le binôme : [indices et traces /geste] et le binôme : [art et poésie/culture]. Avec le terme « art et poésie », je fais référence surtout à l’art de performance. Afin de tester mon Hypothèse sur les relations entre les deux binômes ci-dessus. J’aimerais explorer l’art de la performance au sein des cultures de l’Ouest (sociétés technologiquement avancées-sociétés contemporaines) et des cultures de l’Est (Chine, Japon, Indonésie, Inde). Plus précisément, je vais présenter comment l’art de performance au sein de cultures différentes, pourrait fonctionner comme un indice et une trace concernant des processus et des gestes culturels spécifiques pour chaque culture. La notion de la « performance culturelle » est employée et une approche performative de la culture a été introduite, pour qu’une relation de réciprocité s’installe entre la performance et la culture. A la fin, une action - une performance a été menée pour démontrer la validité du cadre analytique.

L’article est centré sur les années 1960, une période de transformations profondes de la société finlandaise où les regards se tournèrent résolument vers l’avenir, dans l’attente d’une « nouvelle génération qui sera plus radicale et plus violente » que celle de l’après-guerre. Il analyse les relations entre la culture émergente de la jeunesse – une nouveauté à l’époque – et le champ de production culturelle, et notamment la poésie, le genre le plus actif et le plus sensible aux mutations de la société de l’époque. Il se concentre sur deux phénomènes exemplaires, la néo-avant-garde du début de la décennie et l’underground de la fin de la décennie. La représentation est une notion riche, complexe et controversée. Le mot ne colonise pas seulement la vie quotidienne (et plus particulièrement le discours d’information médiatique) ; il est également omniprésent dans la littérature académique, où sa polysémie, maintes fois dénoncée et perçue comme une entrave à la rigueur de la démarche scientifique, ne l’empêche pourtant pas d’être utilisé à l’envi dans de nombreux champs disciplinaires relevant des Humanités. Mais la représentation est surtout convoquée dans des contextes faisant une large place à la critique, pour en pointer la crise (domaine esthétique) ou la faillite (domaine politique), quand ce n’est pas pour réclamer son élimination du champ de la connaissance (philosophie et sciences cognitives). Ces questionnements sur les défaillances empiriques de la représentation ou sur la pertinence même du concept ne doivent cependant pas masquer la puissance et l’originalité des propositions alternatives, en particulier celles qui rejettent la conception de la représentation comme dédoublement amoindri du réel et y voient au contraire une activité de mise à distance, qui permet à l’esprit de rendre le monde intelligible et de se découvrir libre. Cet écart volontaire d’avec l’expérience immédiate du monde, qu’elle n’annule ni ne remplace, est en étroite affinité avec le positionnement épistémologique de la recherche en langues et cultures étrangères, qui repose sur l’alliance nécessaire de la familiarité et de l’éloignement.

À l’île de La Réunion, comme partout ailleurs, la volonté de sauvegarder leur culture et leurs traditions a été constante chez les descendants des engagés venus de l’Inde au xixe siècle. Mais dans un contexte sociopolitique différent, des phénomènes d’acculturation furent inévitables. Toutefois, alors que l’on pouvait s’attendre à une disparition dramatique de l’héritage des engagés, nous assistons depuis plus d’un demi-siècle à des initiatives tendant à revenir aux sources ou à emprunter à des formes contemporaines de la culture indienne. Cet article propose d’étudier comment les efforts souvent disparates, et parfois conjugués, d’associations culturelles, de sociétés privées ou d’institutions politiques ont permis de redonner un nouvel élan à l’identité et à la culture des descendants d’engagés à La Réunion. Notre objectif consiste également à montrer à quel point le chemin vers cette réappropriation de sa culture n’a pas toujours été comprise ni soutenue par tous, et qu’elle a été un véritable combat pour ceux qui l’ont mené.

Par le recours à l’approche sociologique de l’État proposée par Pierre Bourdieu, cet article propose une relecture de l’insurrection des Maccabées. Il insiste notamment sur l’importance de la circoncision, non pas en raison de son caractère identitaire, mais comme marqueur social, comme moyen de reconfigurer le groupe social rassemblant ceux qui se disaient Judéens, par opposition à ceux qu’ils nommaient désormais les Grecs, plus précisément ceux qui vivaient à la grecque. Dès lors, cette insurrection ne témoigne pas d’une opposition entre deux cultures mais d’un affrontement entre deux principes de vision et de division du monde social, celui des Maccabées et celui des Séleucides, entre deux États prétendant tous deux au monopole de l’universel.

Dans le Roman du Hem la matière arthurienne est l’objet d’un double transfert médiatique (de la littérature à la pratique du tournoi réel, qui eut lieu en 1278 ; puis du tournoi à la mise en roman). Ce texte, souvent peu valorisé par les littéraires, est néanmoins une œuvre très originale, qui ne se contente pas de rendre compte d’un spectacle arthurien historique : elle détourne la matière arthurienne, associée à l’idéal chevaleresque anglais représenté par Édouard Ier et met en scène une critique de l’interdiction des tournois en France. La matière arthurienne, détournée (Kex est présenté comme un personnage burlesque), n’est pas dévalorisée : ce qui est dévalorisé ce sont ceux qui ne sont pas capables de pratiquer ses valeurs et qui n’en donnent à voir qu’une version dégradée. La matière arthurienne est ici considérée comme un phénomène de mode global, qui engage à la fois les pratiques sociales, les valeurs morales, les représentations politiques, et la littérature. À l’opposé, dans le Roman de Guillaume d’Orange les mentions arthuriennes sont très minces : elles n’en demeurent pas moins intéressantes et proposent à la fois une évaluation esthétique des romans arthuriens et des signes marquant d’une part la dévaluation sociale de cette matière qui fut aristocratique mais s’est vulgarisée, et d’autre part sa monumentalisation, sous forme d’œuvres d’art, dans des ekphraseis.
