PV strings are essential for energy conversion in large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants. The operating state of PV strings directly affects the power generation efficiency and economic benefits of PV power plants. In the process of evaluating PV arrays, a reference array needs to be identified. By comparing PV arrays with the reference array, the operational status of the PV arrays can be evaluated. However, in the actual operation of PV power stations, it is difficult to directly determine the reference state of a PV array due to random fluctuations in the PV power output. In order to so

Abstract This paper presents the design and the development of multi-string I-V curve tracer for photovoltaic (PV) strings. It uses a capacitive load and double pole relay to measure the I-V characteristics of a multiple PV strings simultaneously. The prototype is developed using a PIC18F4550 micro-controller and a graphical user interface GUI designed using Microsoft’s Visual Studio software. The I-V characteristics of the PV string are displayed on LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and computer. Photovoltaic (PV) system energy production is non-linear because it is influenced by the random nature of weather conditions. The use of machine learning techniques to model the PV system energy production is recommended since there is no known way to deal well with non-linear data. The aim of this work is to accurately predict the DC energy of six PV strings of a utility-scale PV system and to accurately detect PV string faults by benchmarking the results of four machine learning methodologies kn

The voltage mismatch between PV strings, in which PV modules are connected in a series, occurs due to a voltage decrease in some modules. Considering the voltage mismatch, experiments on partial shading, the non-uniformity of irradiance, and the failure of bypass diodes were conducted on the PV module level.
