The applicability of structural timber to construction is due to its desirable qualities such as lightweight, aesthetics and eco-friendliness. However, continuous use of timber for structural purposes comes with the challenge posed by the anisotropic nature of various timber species. Advanced societies have developed and modified their sawn timber species in form of glue-laminated structural members such as beams, columns, joist etc. Nigeria timber species are yet to be fully explored along glued-laminated beams production. Abstract Based on historic documents, two lime-based paint formulations were produced in laboratory in order to evaluate their basic characteristics as restoration materials for historic buildings with lime-based components. The paints were made basically with hydrated lime, clay, water and linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) oil, and one formulation had PVA (polyvinyl acetate)-based glue as fixative, and the other one, Couma guianensis' latex. Each paint component was characterized by XRD and FTIR, and color and specular gloss measurements were performed on both paints. A preliminary assessment

We reviewed the clinical and morphological results of spinal cord arteriovenous malformations (SCAVMs) embolised with acrylic glue through the anterior spinal axis (ASA), and assessed the anatomical guidelines that should be followed to safely embolise the ASA. Twenty consecutive SCAVMS seen between 1982 and 1996 were reviewed. There were 15 lesions in the thoracolumbar cord and 5 in the cervical cord. Haemorrhage was the revealing symptom in 13 patients (65%). Embolisation through the ASA was done in 19 SCAVMs (2 with PVA particles in our early experience and 17 with Histoacryl*). One patient

The textile waste problem is a significant concern both in Latvia and globally. The textile industry, particularly the fashion industry, is considered one of the most polluting industries, generating a substantial amount of waste. Worldwide, the production of textiles has been on the rise due to population growth and increased consumption, leading to a significant increase in textile waste generation. The management of textile waste is crucial for ensuring sustainability and minimizing environmental impacts. Recycling and reusing textile waste are essential strategies for implementing a circul

The use of technologies is increasingly present in agriculture. The seed coating is one of these technologies. However, to obtain it, it’s demanded the use of machines and technics which are restricted to production companies, burdening the price on this type of product. Given the above, it was aimed to develop and evaluate a prototype capable of coating small seeds. To elaborate the conceptual design of the prototype it was employed the computer program for modeling 3D SketchUp, version 2014. The prototype measures were expressed in millimeters (mm). Our study reveals that radiofrequency (RF) plasma treatment causes a greater than threefold decrease in the marginal wetting angle of wood. The greatest effect is achieved in RF plasma treatment in argon, which is on average 5% greater than that of RF plasma treatment in air or in propane/nitrogen mixture. In addition, the power of the RF plasma torch has the greatest influence, and the main influence comes from the voltage applied to the RF plasma torch; cur
