Abstract:
Many researches have been devoted for studying poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) and their blends as important promising biomaterials. In the present work, thin films of pure PVA, pure HPC and their PVA/HPC blends were prepared using the solution casting method. The mechanical properties of the prepared thin films such as stress-strain curve, tensile modulus and tensile strength as well as elongation at break were investigated. The obtained results show that there is an increase in the elastic range and decrease in the hardness of the resulting blends by increasing th

Abstract:
Polyvinyl formal (PVF) was first synthesized via the reaction of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and formaldehyde. The synthesized PVF exhibits a high decomposition temperature, glass transition temperature, and low melting point compared to pristine PVA. The synthesized PVF can be melt processed at temperatures much lower than PVA. Poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) and the as-made PVF were melt blended in a Haake mixer. The mechanical properties, thermal behaviors, and morphologies of PPC/PVF blends were investigated. Compared to the pure PPC, PPC/PVF blends show higher tensile strength and Vicat sof

Agricultural technical development relies exclusively on the effective delivery of agrochemicals and water to plants and on reducing the harmful effects of agrochemicals on useful organisms in the soil. In this study, super-absorbent hydrogels were prepared in the form of microspheres using gum Arabic (GA), which was copolymerized once with chitosan (CS) and once with poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA). To impart mechanical strength to the hydrogel microspheres, a covalent cross-linker (N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA)) was used for the PVA/GA hydrogel, and an ionic cross-linker (sodium hexametaphosp

Bio-films have been produced that attract attention with their functional behavior among conventional food packaging materials of bio-based polymer blends. The physical and morphological properties of copolymeric biofilms have been extensively investigated. Biodegradable polymer and copolymer films were produced by in situ polymerization technique and prepared as solution casting. The strong water absorbency of polyvinyl alcohol and the antimicrobial property of polyvinylpyrrolidone are combined in a single material. Structural and morphological properties of the films were characterized by Fo

In this work, blending of soybeans oil (SBO) with polyvinyl acetate (PVA) was carried out successfully. Some physical properties of the blends were equally studied. Melting point (800C-600C) and density (1.20 g/cm3-1.07 g/cm3) decreased with increased in SBO concentration in the blend. Viscosity increased (2.0 m2/s) initially before a constant viscosity values was observed (4.20 m2/s) and a gradual decrease (2.90 m2/s) with increased in SBO concentration while a gradual increase was recorded for refractive index

Falsified medicines are a major issue and a threat around the world. Various approaches are currently being investigated to mitigate the threat. In this study, a concept is tested that encodes binary digits (bits) on the surface of Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) 3D printed geometries. All that is needed is a computer, a FDM 3D printer and a paper scanner for detection. For the experiments, eleven different formulations were tested, covering the most used polymers for 3D printing in pharma: Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polylactic acid (PLA), Hypromellose (HPMC), ethy

Abstract:
Researchers have been investigating the physical and morphological properties of biodegradable polymer and copolymer films, blending them with other chemicals to solve challenges in medical, industrial, and eco-environmental fields. The present study introduces a novel, straightforward method for preparing biodegradable hydrogels based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) for medical applications. The resulting PVA/PVP-based hydrogel uniquely combines the water absorbency, biocompatibility, and biodegradability of the polymer composite. For hygiene products and medical us
