Abstract:
Povidone iodine (PVPI) is an antiseptic widely used against a broad spectrum of pathogens. However, undesired side-effects are still associated with PVPI treatment due to the irritant effect of iodine. Reducing the concentration of a PVPI formulation could provide safer and more friendly formulations, for routine use and applications in very delicate organs such as the eye. However, managing the storage of a low-concentration solution of PVPI is challenging due to the high iodine volatility. Backgrounds and Aims: Patients with cirrhosis are susceptible to sepsis and septic shock. Cirrhotic patients also have increased capillary permeability and are prone to developing volume overload. It is plausible that pre-existing hyperpermeability may deteriorate when cirrhotic patients develop septic shock. Background: Pharmacovigilance deals with identification, assessment and prevention and reporting of adverse drug reaction (ADR), play a pivotal role in ensuring safe use of drugs. However, in spite of having well established ADR reporting system in India and worldwide, the ADR underreporting is a big challenge till date. It is therefore very important to assess the level of awareness of Pharmacovigilance among healthcare professionals to identify the factors affecting ADRs reporting. The Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PVPI), established in 2010, has become a cornerstone of India’s public health strategy for drug safety. This review critically examines PVPI’s evolution, organizational structure, reporting mechanisms, and signal detection processes. Key achievements include a dramatic increase in Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs), the expansion of the AMC network, digital innovations such as the ADR PVPI app, and recognition as a WHO Collaborating Centre. Like many pathogenicity islands, the VPI has at its termini a phage-like integrase gene (int), a transposase-like gene (vpiT), and phage-like attachment (att) sites, and is inserted at a tRNA-like locus (ssrA). We report that the VPI precisely excises from the chromosome and that its left and right ends join to form an extrachromosomal circular excision product (pVPI).
