The Gulf crisis, which broke out on June 5, 2017 between Qatar and the four countries (Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain), surprised the world. The four countries initiated punitive action against Qatar and justified it in seeking to stop Qatar from supporting terrorism. The sanctions included a diplomatic boycott, an economic blockade and an air embargo, amounting to the criminalization of sympathizers of the four countries' nationals with Qatar. The Qatari humanitarian sector was one of the targeted sectors in the crisis. The four countries launched smearing campaigns against the Qata

Such plants currently produce over 98% of the total fresh water in Qatar. This ratio may increase to 100% in the next few years. Abstract:
Amid the outbreak of the contagious novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), states were put in an unprecedented situation never encountered before. Qatari authorities applied certain preventive measures to contain the spread of the virus. Still, knowledge of public risk perceptions and behavioral responses surrounding the COVID-19 epidemic is emerging, and clear quantitative data remain limited. This poster summarizes the results of a SESRI study that investigated social attitudes, behavior, and consequences surrounding COVID-19 in Qatar. An original online survey was conducted in both Qatar and a compa

What I will try to cover in this memo is first a brief summary of what I call the regional domino policy of the U.S. to provide the background to the origins of the FTAA. I will then review the main features of the transformed political economy of the global trading system in the WTO, including the wide North-South divide and the rise to prominence of new transnational players, the NGO's, and their emerging global and regional strategies. The final portion will explore some policy options for positive regional-multilateral linkages - a new domino policy.

Abstract:
Tense relations between Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are a major cause for concern regarding stability, security and peace in the Gulf region and in the Middle East more generally. These states seek to play a major role in the Middle East and use arms as a key tool in the pursuit of this aim. To illustrate the importance given to military capability in these four states, this fact sheet provides a concise overview of trends and patterns of military expenditure and of arms imports—the main source of modern major arms for these states—in the period 1994–2018.

In September 2010 it was reported that Saudi Arabia had sought the US Government’s permission to purchase large numbers of combat aircraft and helicopters from US companies. This was just the latest indication that Saudi Arabia is planning a new arms-purchasing spree similar to that in the 1990s, raising questions about the possible impacts of military build-ups in the Gulf region, which includes both Iran and Iraq alongside the Arab states of the Gulf. Transparency is poor in most of the Gulf region. This SIPRI Fact Sheet combines data on known military spending and recent and planned arms im

In policy circles and intellectual centers throughout the world, there is considerable debate on how to make globalization "work" for smaller, poorer, and otherwise disadvantaged countries. The challenges and potential solutions have manifested themselves in a myriad of ways, from the declarations of the Monterrey Summit on Trade and Development to policy papers on reform of the "global financial architecture". On the trade front, the World Trade Organization (WTO) launched the Doha Development Agenda in Qatar in November 2001, which sought, among other things, to give the challenges of capaci
