Full textDuring the spring semester of 2017 a product development project has been carried out by two Design Engineering Students, Eva Henriksson and Sofie Johansson, in cooperation with Kinnarps. Kinnarps is a company who develops and sells furniture for public environments and as they are now focusing on the development of how educational spaces are formed and furnished they wanted to develop a height adjustable student desk for pupils between the ages of 10 to 16. To be able to reassure whether the correct customer requirements were identified and fulfilled in the right way QFD – Quality Function Deployment was used and analyzed as a part of the project. The use of QFD during the pre-study included, amongst other things, the execution of interviews and observations of users and the target group, performing competitive analyses, looking into trends , evaluate and weighing the importance of different needs and translating those into measureable specifications. The pre-study showed that needs like mobility, flexibility, simple adjustment and that the table should be as quiet as possible were the most important ones. The concept generation phase started by identifying and evaluating different options of height adjustment mechanisms. Creativity methods were used to generate ideas on how different parts of the table could be constructed. The generated concepts were then evaluated and screened continuously by looking on how well they fulfilled the customer requirements and through user tests and feedback from the target group. Two concepts remained before the final selection. The choice between these two concepts were based on to which extend each of them fulfilled the customer requirements. The final design of the table fulfills the requirements that were set and fits well into the educational spaces as they are formed today and how they probably will be designed in the future. The functionality that were requested by the users have been fulfilled while the table still has a unique and appealing look.

Full textThe objective of this study is to analyze the method known as Quality Function Deployment in the development of packaging. This study is limited to packing of parts packaging and it was carried out in a factory of assembly of cars. The house of quality, first step of the method was used by the industry to develop packages of the factory to identify and meet the needs of your internal customers and direct suppliers of parts in the development of packages aimed at providing better quality and reduced costs. The study was conducted in 2008 / 2009. These needs were obtained through qualitative research with the areas involved in the development of packaging. The work can be classified as exploratory, because from the literature of the QFD method and interviews, we sought a better understanding of the problem associated with constant delays in planning due to the need for changes to the packaging prototype. As preliminary result, this study allowed the visualization of important aspects relating to packaging that were not considered in the initial phase of development. This occasioned the frequent delays in the planning of implementation of the national part due to the need for changes in packaging prototype.

Full textTendencies in product development of today make it likely that many future products will be functional equivalent and therefore hard to distinguish between for the customer. Customers will decide by highly subjective criteria which product to purchase. One task for product development in this context is to be able to capture the customer’s considerations and feelings of products and translate these emotional aspects into concrete product design.
Today a number of different methods, such as Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Semantical Environment Description (SMB), Conjoint Analysis and Kansei Engineering exist and are used in practical applications.
The purpose of this thesis is to understand and apply Kansei Engineering methodology and explore ways to integrate the methodology into an industrial product development process.
This was done by conducting a study on forklift trucks in different European countries and business areas and by exploring ways of integrating Kansei Engineering in product development processes.
The number of Kansei words collected was reduced based on the result of a pilot study using a combination of different tools. A computerized data collection method was used in combination with a modified VAS-scale in order to reduce the time for filling out the evaluation forms The results of the study in the visited Northern and Middle European companies make it evident that Kansei Engineering has to be adapted in several aspects to the circumstances in each situation. The data showed that there are differences in attitude towards reach trucks in the different European countries. These results were used in order to adapt the product requirements for each specific country. Starting at Cooper’s stage gate model Kansei Engineering was applied on a macro level, a micro level and for verifying purpose. Using QFD, Kansei Engineering helps to identify customer needs their importance and the technical responses as well as to conduct benchmarking and to connect the customer needs mathematically to the technical responses.
This study of Kansei Engineering revealed that there was no general model on the methodology available in English literature. Outgoing from a previous flowchart, a conceptual framework of Kansei Engineering was developed integrating the existing Kansei Engineering Types and future tools.

Full textIn recent years, several models representing the product development process have been created. However, the adaptation of such models to Web services development is yet to grow. In this regard, systematization of the development process for new services requires further practical and theoretical substantiation, particularly because of the significant growth of the Web services sector. This study proposes a systematization of the development management process for new e-services provided exclusively on the Web, hereafter referred to as Web services. Consequently, this study proposes a standardized model to manage the development of new web services and a quality planning method based on Quality Function Deployment, by considering cost and quality indicators as a way to set improvement and demand priorities applied to a casual gaming portal. Finally, the application of the development management model and the quality planning method are demonstrated with regard to development of an online classifieds service, and guidance presented for managers involved in such development processes.

Full textThis research project addresses the unique challenges of extensive farming in terms of monitoring and controlling remote equipment or events. Poorly maintained roads and escalating fuel costs increase difficulty of farming and the time spent on physically monitoring remote sites further reduces financial yields. The research showed that there are very few solutions that implement wireless or electronic technology to overcome the challenges associated with these isolated and arid areas and that a low-cost, long range wireless telemetry solution that is easy to use would be beneficial for the extensive farming industry. It was therefore the aim of this project to develop a remote monitoring and controlling solution that implements wireless technology to convey information of activities around the farm utilising electronic means. To be able to successfully develop a wireless telemetry solution that will accurately meet the needs of this specific sector of industry, market research was conducted. To guide the research, the QFD (quality function deployment) process for product development has been implemented. The research consisted out of various aspects including a survey, financial considerations and international comparisons. The research also aided in the understanding of the day-to-day activities and also the physical parameters of extensive farms. Also, currently available technologies and products were evaluated to establish whether similarities exist that will aid in the development of a new product. The development process was based on the results obtained in the market research and resulted in a wireless telemetry solution that overcame all the design challenges and proved to be technically feasible, successfully addressing the application requirements. Zigbee technology was utilized for wireless communication because it provided an off-the-shelf solution with a number of readily available development platforms from various technology providers. A communication range of up to 6 kilometres with a transmitted power of 11dBm was achieved for point-to-point communication and a mesh network topology has been implemented for even longer range and complete coverage on farms. Various types of measurements have been catered for, with custom-designed instrumentation which enabled measurements such as water levels, movement and analogue signals. Also, a basic user interface was developed to enable the user to monitor or control the equipment or events remotely from a personal computer, locally or even over the internet. The results of this research project showed that by carefully selecting available technologies and understanding the application, it is possible to develop a solution that addresses the monitoring and controlling needs associated with extensive farming. The wireless telemetry system that was developed resulted in a saving equal to 10% of the total expenses of the farms per year. The telemetry system is therefore a financially feasible solution with a payback period of less than 1 year and far below the initial estimated budget. Without the need to physically monitoring equipment and events, an increase in productivity and the expansion of the overall enterprise is a further benefit added unto the monetary savings. In addition to the financial benefits of implementing new wireless technology, this is an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner and more sustained future as a legacy for the next generation by reducing the carbon footprint of the farm.

Lopes, Maria Micheline Teixeira. "Jointly applying qfd (Quality Function Deployment) and sensory analysis in the quality study of petit suisse product." Universidade Federal do CearÃ, 2013. http://www.teses.ufc.br/tde_busca/arquivo.php?codArquivo=11606.
Full textCompanies are in direct competition and increasingly use quality programs to try to maintain market share. In this context, the customer becomes a fundamental part of the success of any product launched, being a rich source of ideas. The satisfaction of customer needs is a quality definition. A quality tool that aims to translate the customer's desire is QFD (Quality Function Deployment). This piece of research was motivated by a situation observed in a Dairy Industry located in Cearà in relation to low demand production with negative impact on productivity rates, packet loss and overall efficiency of the processing line for Petit Suisse cheese. Thus, the objective was to study the identification of quality characteristics with regard to Petit Suisse cheese, jointly applying QFD methodologies and Sensory Analysis for product improvement using Matrix of Quality of the final product. Four brands of Petit Suisse cheese were selected, two international (reference top business minds in the industry) and two regional (local reference companies in the Northeast). A focus group technique was applied using questions directed at the characteristics of the product, and in this way it was possible to obtain information about the concept and product quality. Two groups of seven participants, chosen from the young adult segment, formed focus groups. Exploratory research was also used (qualitative questionnaires) with general questions about the product. Sensory acceptance tests and measurement of expectation were applied to verify acceptance and consumer expectations regarding the product were studied. To quantify the data obtained in the qualitative stage, we applied quantitative questionnaires consisting of items concerning required qualities. The data obtained during the previous steps have been inserted in the Matrix Quality, which presented the items of required quality (requirements of consumers) versus the quality characteristics of the final product. In the qualitative questionnaires, the nutritious aspects, those related to the product being healthy, and those meaning it was affordable were highlighted as ideal product. For the consumerâs focus group, it was found that the most striking feature was the consistency of the product followed by the flavor attribute and then the color. The sensory analysis showed that the Petit Suisse product is well accepted and the products of regional and international brands achieved equal acceptance in the blind test, showing the competitive potential of regional brands. The measure of expectations revealed consumer loyalty to brands. Regarding the physicochemical analyses, the international samples (M2 and M3) showed higher protein. The M1 sample showed the highest percentage of fat and the M4 sample had high acidity. The application of the Sensory Analysis and QFD together made it possible to prepare the Quality Matrix for identifying which quality characteristics are most relevant to the Petit Suisse product in the opinion of the 11 consumer, namely: the expiration date, being nutritious, having nutrition information on the la bel, creamy consistency, absence of supernatant liquid, characteristic flavor and sweet taste. The color and aroma attributes had less importance in the Quality Matrix. Thus, it was possible to highlight which features should be considered important when responding to consumersâ wishes regarding the Petit Suisse product.

Full textThis paper aims to present the application of QFD (Quality Function Deployment)in a financial institution, as an effective means to hear the voice of the customer and thus provide data and information so that the needs and expectations are translated into characteristics of service, because that method is used to develop services and products, in order to ensure quality from the initial phase to completion. Initially, in order to meet the quality requirements demanded by customers, we carried out an exploratory survey, through questionnaires administered by managers at a sample of 60 customers in the segment called "key client" of ten branches in different cities. The answers were converted into items of the quality customers demand for the segment in question. Next, to achieve the desired goal, we used "The House of Quality" of the QFD technique, to identify key needs and expectations of customers and thus make the necessary adjustments to services and products offered. As a result of the application of QFD was found that the price of fares charged by the company, was cited 20 times, representing 7% of the total number of comments and had corrected the importance of the quality demanded equal to 10.15. The waiting time in queue was cited 19 times, representing 6% of the total number of comments and had corrected the importance of the quality demanded equal to 9.53. These items represent the qualities demanded of most relevance to customers, while the layout and size of the physical space of the banks, representing 1.06% and 0.71% respectively of total comments. The importance of the quality demanded of the corrected layout with 0.74 and the space agencys 0.34, indicating that these items represent the qualities demanded of less relevance to customers. Regarding the importance of the quality features (IQJ), increasing the number of employees to make the treatment was more important with IQJ equal to 85, while a faster call was with IQJ least equal to 11.

Full textThere are few examples in literature about the integration of project tools along the product development phases. The main research objective in thesis is to integrate some tools that facilitate the information flow along the product development phases, more specifically in Informational Project, Conceptual Project and Detailed Project phases. The product improvement “support for Vehicular Natural Gas” was the object of study in thesis. The main idea is that the information output from one tool is the input information of the subsequent tool. Starting from the Informational Project phase it was performed qualitative and quantitative market researches with the purpose of identifying the customers' demands for the studied product. The customers’ demands were the entrance data of the QFD (Quality Function Deployment) tool resulting in the product requirements and their respective specifications-goal. In Concept Project the product requirements were converted in functions and further different concepts were generated through the Morphologic Analysis. In the sequence, it was used the DOE (Design for experiments) tool to evaluate the estimate price to the possible products' configurations. The Pugh Matrix tool was used for concepts evaluation and choice. The FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) tool integrated with QFD was useful for current and potential failures identification and impact analysis in the system and process. With the application of these five tools the users’ demands were identified and improvements to the product were performed. The chosen tools proved to be adequate for integration, assuring that a continuous trackable information flow was attained with presumable reduced information loss, along the Product Development Process phases.

This paper has the objective of identifying the priority points of the Urban Passengers Transport System by bus within the city of Vitória ES by the passengers, hereafter referred to as `users´, the bus company and the office within the local Government, applying the Quality Function Deployment (QFD), that established the correlation between the company and both the Government body and users perception. From results obtained, it is the intention to give subsidies for the bus company and the Government body in order to prioritize some aspects relating to the quality of service, taking into consideration the users perception in relation to the importance of customer satisfaction. Amongst the stages of the methodology highlights the following: Questionnaire for the customers whereby the levels of customer satisfaction was gauged, and the degree of importance given to each issue found in previous research. Also including correspondence received in customer suggestion boxes was taken into consideration. Meetings taken place with both the employees of the bus company and the government body, whereby the employees identified the items necessary for monitoring and checking, and established its correlation of Quality Demand. From the outcome of both the results of the questionnaire and issues addressed at subsequent meetings, were built the matrix for quality of both Company and Government body, which resulted in the prioritization of monitoring and checking. In relation to the users satisfaction level, the research showed that more than half of those interviewed evaluated the items towards the fleet and crew as ´good´. The response relating to the actual operating of the company had the highest percentage of results identifying rated as ´regular´ ´bad´ and´ ´ very bad´. Also where the items that had the highest number of evaluations were rated ´very important´ and ` important´. In relation to prioritizing the items of the company monitoring, highlighted the items related to index of execution of trips and rate of occupation of the vehicle. In relation to prioritizing of checking by the Government body concluded that it had had three areas highlighted: to assure the accomplishment of the constant trips in the Orders of Service of Operation and to assure that the schedule of exit and arrival of the vehicles are accomplished. A further priority raised was the penalty which would be applied to the company in the event of a violation of the items being checked. Through this prioritization was observed a difference of point of view between the users and the Government body regarding the quality of service provided by the bus company. This indicated the necessity of a review of priorities of the Government body and the afore mentioned company.

Full textA product planning was performed on a lifting device called Häxan used at Sandvik AB in Sandviken. This lifting device lifts tubes for steam generators for nuclear power plants. As part of a nuclear power plant, the tubes got tough tolerance requirements. The product planning was needed due to problems with the lifting device. The design was a development of an earlier lifting device used in pipe mill 68, serving the same purpose. The production line experienced the new design as heavy and difficult to handle. The goal was to establish a specification for a new design, for remodeling or improvement of the existing design. The product planning was performed by quality function deployment (QFD) and interviews were conducted to collect information and requests concerning the construction. New conditions for the design were determined by which reducing the carrying capacity to one thousand kilograms compared to the previous two thousand was made possible. New external dimensions and the need for simplifying the functions called comb-hooks and L-hooks were identified. A house of quality was established in which the technical characteristics of greatest importance were the following: Required force for adjustment, carrying capacity and number of functions. A function element was proposed and analyzed by finite element method to validate its potential for further development. Finally a decision analysis using decision trees were performed to provide a basis for choice of action. The analysis indicated that an improvement of the existing design with manufacturing of new cross bars with separate skids for the different hook types were preferred. Some problems in the environment were also identified and the redesign of an interim storage was considered a good measure. The improvement of the present concept is deemed to be in line with the customer requirements identified during the work, an issue concerning the construction materials is discussed.

Full textIn this competitive world, organizations need to train their human resources staff in order to keep them continually capable of dealing with processes activities, especially the ones in the value chain. The challenge is to prepare them to meet the established strategies, which results in the need for a method that favors the development of the adequate training project. Since training has great relevance in services provision, the importance of the project becomes evident. The quality function deployment (QFD) has proven to be an effective method to listen to the customer and to translate their needs in quantitative elements of prioritization in project design. This research reports a training project that uses quality function deployment. Its a qualitative research realized in the training department of a service informatics company with about 1300 employees. The results are shown as an effective alternative for managers to develop or improve their training projects.

Full textThe production of quality seedling constitutes one of the main factors of success of the coffee cultivation, mainly for the substitution of not-productive coffee crops, and implantation of new techniques of production. A collaborative work with Cooperative of the Coffee Producers of the Marília Region (Cooperativa dos Cafeicultores da Região de Marília - Coopemar) was carried out to establish and analyze the characteristics required by the customers of seedling of grafted coffee which are commercialized in plastic tubes. This work consists of two phases: i) Quality control required by the customers applying the QFD methodology (House of Quality); and, ii) The utilization of quality control tools in the production system. Interviews with customers of seedling were carried out with the purpose to discover which characteristics and services analyzed in the acquisition of the coffee seedling and how important each required characteristic was. In the first phase, the quality requirements, such as the delivery deadline, high quality grafting, affordable prices and the conditions of payment presented major weight in the analysis. The characteristics such as the nutrition level, dry mass of the aerial part, dry mass of the root, the height and diameter of stalk for the seedling were met satisfactorily, in this order of importance. In the productive control (indicators of quality) technical requirement selected had been submitted to the verification through the use of letters of control and histograms. With the use of the diagram of cause and effect it can also determine three important characteristics: depth of seedling, height of grafting and weight of the property per container. The results had conclued that amongst the analyzed characteristics such as the nutrition level, the height and diameter of stalk for the seedling were met satisfactorily. Nevertheless, other requirements like the depth of seedling, height of grafting and weight of the property per container did not meet the criteria. Due to low correlation with the characteristics of the quality, itens of demanded quality had reached low relative weight in respective itens of projected quality and the occurred processes out of control during the productive process had appeared as proposal for improvements for attainment of the seedling of coffee with attributes of the plant and the intrinsic services, according to requirement of the customers.

Abstract: The QFD - Quality Function Deployment methodology will be presented within a project context, using an objective development approach through sequential stages. Some theories about organizational cultures and a method for analyzing them are also presented. Based on these concepts, QFD implicit cultural assumptions will be identified as well as their probable relationship with other shared assumptions of the Brazilian organizations revealed by typical cultural elements, within the same context. As a result of a critical analysis of those relationships, Critical Success Factors (CSF) will be defined so that the organizations that practice or intend to practice QFD, take higher considerations of the influences of the organizational cultures, and use the CSF to help them increase their probability of success on the implementation of QFD projects

Full textIn order to overcome citriculture\'s challenges, related to market dynamics, phytosanitary pressures and production complexity, a high level of knowledge concerning the production process is necessary, leading to proper decision making. This knowledge can be achieved by comprehension on how the production requirements, represented by demanded quality, are affected by process variables, represented by technical characteristics. Considering that this comprehension helps to maintain proper condition and competitiveness of citriculture, this study aims to identify, systematize and prioritize technical characteristics to satisfy the requirements of the orange production process to attend juice industry. The identification of process quality demanded and technical measures was performed by bibliographical research. It was identified 38 items of demanded quality, based on 6 process and 17 activities performed on oranges production, and 114 technical characteristics that affect such production, organized into 7 affinity groups. Quality function deployment (QFD) method was applied in order to understand the relationship between quality demanded and technical characteristics, leading to systematization. This method also enabled prioritization of technical characteristics, in a process named conversion. The prioritization was based on relative weight, calculated for each characteristic in conversion process. This weight represents the influence of the characteristic on production process. From the total of 114 characteristics, 64 (56%) were responsible for 80% of total relative weight calculated. It was noted that the influence of each characteristics on production process were different, although this relationship does not answer to Pareto principle. The correlation matrix, that identifies the interdependence relationship between technical characteristics, exposed the complexity and systemic nature of citriculture.

Full textThe method QFD is new in Brazil and has been used by the few companies in different segments, aimed at improving the process of developing products and service needs of consumers. It can be used to identify requirements for different qualities of products. In this context, may be adopted by companies in the industry furniture to add value to products because of this industry be characterized as a segment of the wide variety of products in different forms and raw materials and which need to highlight differential. And particularly in the city of Manaus, because the industry furniture find itself in a stage of constant evolution and that presents a large supply of timber products so unorganized. We need to know the preferences of consumers, to define the requirements for primary products of wood. In order to apply the method to generate QFD the concept of wood-based products of the Amazon of consumers of three classes A1, B2 and C, selected on the basis of economic representative in the city of Manaus. A search was conducted with application of a questionnaire distributed to 100 per class, totaling 300 questionnaires. The data indicated the profile of consumers, products and preferred the quality of products. We used the program QFD designer5 for construction of dams quality. The definitions of the concepts of products by economic classes were generated from the selection of quality characteristics of greater value the relative importance of quality in the matrix. The results showed that there is little variability in preferences for products of wood between the economic classes. The products preferred by the three classes examined were: beds, for dining room table, chairs, and preferably only in Class A1 mobile office, only the Class B2 products for decoration as pictures guard, lights and magazines guard, only to Class C as objects of domestic use of wood and iron spoon to cut meat and the Class B2 and C wardrobes. The characteristics of quality for products of Class A1 involving raw material quality, good finish, innovative design, fitness for purpose; B2 solid wood, simple shapes, safety and durability and low price to C, be comfortable and durability. Based on the study concludes is a Class A1 prioritizes the design followed the quality of products, the B2 prioritizes quality followed by comfort and the quality C followed by the price of products. Conceptually products must be of solid wood with the possibility to merge with other materials such as metal or glass, have design, be of quality and price consistent with the cost benefit to being seen by consumers as products of high added value.

Full textThis thesis was carried out at Astrazeneca Södertälje within Meto-pre stage, which is part of the factory API, intending to streamline the maintenance work. Apreventive maintenance survey was carried out, to identify maintenance work that was performed twice by both API operators and the maintenance provider Caverion. The thesis presents an account of concepts in maintenance, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and the decision model QFD (Quality Function Deployment) which constitute the theoretical starting point for results and analysis. The thesis is based on collected observations and interview materials from staff active in operations and maintenance. The results of the study show that there are overlaps in maintenance work, for example in weekly supervision/inspections and preventive maintenance (FU) within the factory part Meto-pre stage. Both operators and Caverion carry out maintenance operations that include a visual control of oil levels, leakage, noise, vibrations for several machines. A clearer distribution of maintenance measures between operators and Caverion will contribute to the streamlining of maintenance work.
