Abstract:

Abstract:
Aralia Linnaeus (1753: 273) consists of approximately 65 species distributed in eastern to southeastern Asia and the Americas (Wen, 1993). In the past there has been much disagreement over whether Aralia should be recognized in a broad or narrow sense (Li 1942, Hoo & Tseng 1965, 1978, Shang 1985a, 1985b, Shang & Li 1990, Wen 1993, 2002, 2011, Wen et al. 2002, Xiang & Lowry 2007). The broad sense of Aralia is supported by recent studies on the basis of morphological characters and molecular evidence (Wen 1993, Wen et al. 2001, 2002), and therefore some segregated genera, Coudenbergia Marchal (1879: 514), Pentapanax Seemmann (1864: 290, 294), Hunaniopanax Qi et Cao (1988: 47), Neoacanthophora Bennet (1979: 283), Sciadodendron Grisebach (1858: 7), Parapentapax Hutchinson (1967: 56) and Megalopanax E. Ekman ex Harms (1924:122), are reduced to the synonymies of Aralia (Wen 1993. Wen et al. 2002). Wen (2011) divided the genus into six sections: sect. Aralia, sect. Dimorphanthus (Miquel 1840: 95) Miquel (1863: 6), sect. Humiles Harms (1896: 13), sect. Nanae Harms (1896: 12), sect. Pentapanax (Semm.) Wen (2002: 31) and sect. Sciadodendron (Griseb.) Wen (2011: 29).

"Effects of Switching to Wen-Jing-Tang (Unkei-To) from Preceding Herbal Preparations Selected by Eight-Principle Pattern Identification on Endocrinological Status and Ovulatory Induction in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome." Abstract:
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of switching therapy to Wen-jing-tang (Unkei-to) from previous selected herbal preparations on endocrine levels and induction of ovulation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Sixty-four anovulatory women diagnosed with PCOS were enrolled in the study. After Kampo diagnosis, subjects received matched Kampo preparations (43 cases: Dang-gui-shao-yao-san, 21 cases: Gui-zhi-fu-ling-wan) selected by the matching theory of eight-principle pattern identification and Kampo diagnosis based on concepts of the qi, blood, and fluids as the physiologic activity. Fifty-four women who failed to ovulate after an 8-week treatment were randomly allocated to continuation of treatment with the preceding Kampo prescription (continuation group, n = 27) or treatment with Wen-jing-tang (switching group, n = 27). Plasma FSH, LH and estradiol levels were measured and ovulation rates were determined at the beginning and after an 8-week treatment with the preceding Kampo prescription, as well as after the subsequent 8-week treatment with the same preparation or Wen-jing-tang. No decrease in mean plasma LH level was observed in the 54 women who failed to ovulate among the 64 treated with a Kampo preparation. After the 8-week treatment with Wen-jing-tang, plasma LH levels were decreased by 58.2% ( p < 0.0001) and 49.4% ( p = 0.0005) in the groups switched from Dang-gui-shao-yao-san and Gui-zhi-fu-ling-wan, respectively. In the group switched from Dang-gui-shao-yao-san, a tendency towards increase in plasma estradiol level was observed (1.51-fold, p = 0.055), which was significant compared with that in the group switched from Gui-zhi-fu-ling-wan ( p = 0.032). The ovulation rate with switching of treatment to Wen-jing-tang was significantly higher (59.3%) than that with continued use of the same preparation (7.4%, p = 0.0036). This study confirmed that Wen-jing-tang was effective in improving endocrine condition in the treatment of disturbances of ovulation in patients with PCOS without taking eight-principle pattern identification into consideration. This finding indicates that Wen-jing-tang is appropriate for use in treating PCOS in women with various constitutions (as determined by the matching theory of eight-principle pattern identification) in clinical practice and may prove to be a potent therapeutic agent with a wide therapeutic spectrum.

Abstract:
The goal of this paper is to extend the modified Hestenes-Stiefel method to solve large-scale nonlinear monotone equations. The method is presented by combining the hyperplane projection method (Solodov, M.V.; Svaiter, B.F. A globally convergent inexact Newton method for systems of monotone equations, in: M. Fukushima, L. Qi (Eds.)Reformulation: Nonsmooth, Piecewise Smooth, Semismooth and Smoothing Methods, Kluwer Academic Publishers. 1998, 355-369) and the modified Hestenes-Stiefel method in Dai and Wen (Dai, Z.; Wen, F. Global convergence of a modified Hestenes-Stiefel nonlinear conjugate gradient method with Armijo line search. Numer Algor. 2012, 59, 79-93). In addition, we propose a new line search for the derivative-free method. Global convergence of the proposed method is established if the system of nonlinear equations are Lipschitz continuous and monotone. Preliminary numerical results are given to test the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Bi, Xiao. "Rhétorique de la dissertation : étude contrastive des conventions d’écriture académique en français et en chinois." Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016USPCA036/document.

Full text
Abstract:
This study compares academic writing conventions in French and Chinese from the point of view of Contrastive Rhetoric in the field of French teaching and learning as a foreign language. We spot respectively in French and Chinese education systems a specific genre: the French dissertation and the Chinese yilun wen. They have a comparable status, a clear structure and strict rules to follow. The comparison between these two genres indicates that the rules are not shared between French and Chinese students and that certain criteria required in the Chinese yilun wen appear far removed from French dissertation. Thus Chinese students encounter intricate difficulties in writing French dissertations and negative transfers under the influence from Chinese writing conventions. This result is also confirmed by the analysis of dissertations written by the Chinese students of our corpus. The surveys conducted among French and Chinese learners show that they are not fully aware of the cultural differences of standards in writing. The analysis of comments by French teachers of dissertation written by Chinese students shows that they are not better armed than their students in face of the differences of textual organization (both the construction and the way of realization) in French and Chinese. We attend to hold endly how the organization of traditional Chinese Rhetoric (the bagu wen and the Qi-Cheng-Zhuan-He schemes), still proposed by textbooks and practiced by learners, exert more or less influence on French writing of the Chinese students

Title: Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics: The Cultural Aspect of Chinese Foreign Policy in the Example of Sino-American Relations Ambiguity in answers, lack of communication or justification of actions have resulted in a negative depiction of Sino-American relations. I would like to prove the cultural significance as a major factor in influencing Chinese foreign policy regarding the example of Sino-American relations. By applying elements of constructivism, one is able to understand the cultural perspective of Chinese foreign policy in the example of Sino-American relations. Furthermore, this is proven through philosophical application of game theory stratagem.

We investigate a phenomenon observed in systems of the form dx/dt=a1tx+a2tydy/dt=a3tx+a4ty where ait=Pi+εQicos2t where Pi, Qi and ε are given constants, and where it is assumed that when ε = 0 this system exhibits a pair of linearly independent solutions of period 2π. Since the driver cos2t has period π, we have the ingredients for a 2:1 subharmonic resonance which typically results in a tongue of instability involving unbounded solutions when ε >0. We present conditions on the coefficients Pi, Qi such that the expected instability does not occur, i.e., the tongue of instability has disappeared.

Abstract:
Experimental investigations on post-dryout heat transfer in 10×8.1, 10×7 and 10×6mm annular test sections have been carried out under low-pressure and low mass flow rate conditions. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was trained successfully based on the experimental data for predicting the average post-dryout Nusselt number. Based on the ANN, the effects of gap size, pressure, steam Reynolds number, Reg, inlet quality, xi, Prandtl number, (Prg)W, and the ratio of heat flux of inner-tube to that of outer-tube, qi/qo, on post-dryout heat transfer were analyzed, respectively. In present study, Nusselt number in annular channels with big gap size is larger than that in annular channels with small gap size. Nusselt number increases significantly in 1.5mm and 2.0mm annular channels while it is almost constant in 0.95mm annular channel with increasing pressure or qi/qo. Nusselt number increases with Reg in case of 0.95mm and 1.5mm gap sizes. However, Nusselt number in 2.0mm annular channel firstly increases and then decreases with increasing Reg. Nusselt number decreases with increasing inlet quality under all three annular channels condition. Nusselt number decreases significantly with increasing (Prg)W when (Prg)W is less than 1.5. The changes of Nusselt number in 1.5mm or 2.0mm annular channels are larger than that in 0.95mm annular channel.

Abstract:
Delafossite CuAlO2 is a p-type transparent semiconductor oxide with space group R-3m (N°166) is a material with extended applications in different fields. Structural parameters, band structure, and density of CuAlO2 have been investigated in the light of the Density Functional Theory (DFT) using PBE pseudopotentials (norm-conserving pseudopotentials). Our calculations are performed with the ABINIT package using cut-off energy of 100 Hartree, showing convergence to cut-off energy up to 30 Hartree. The lattice parameters of CuAlO2 obtained after the relaxation process are a = b = 2.904 Å and c = 17.202 Å; and consequently, volume of V=174.014 Å3 , also the derivate of the bulk modules Bo´=4.1, and bulk modulus Bo=174 Gpa were found. We find that discrepancies between our calculated lattice parameters a, c, and c/a are overestimated about 0.798%, 0.591%, and 0.219% compared to the reference’s theoretical calculations of Qi-Jun Liu et,al respectively. The calculated energy band structure of CuAlO2 and the high-symmetry points of Brillouin Zone show that the delafossite structure has an indirect band gag (~ 1.21 eV) because the top valence and the bottom conduction are found at F point and Г point, respectively. This work aims to study structural parameters, band structure, and density of states of delafossite CuAlO2 and give one application as solar cell.

In ASME 2019 Pressure Vessels & Piping Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/pvp2019-93713.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Work published for the first time at the ASME PVP 2017 conference showed that when on the upper-shelf, the toughness measured directly from surface-cracked pipe tests decreased as the flaw depth increased. A similar trend existed in SENT tests. Initially it was found that this flaw depth sensitivity of the toughness occurred for a very tough material like TP304 stainless steel. The significance of that result was that even for a material where limit-load was thought to exist, as the flaw depth increased the toughness dropped appreciably, and the failure analysis mode changed from limit-load to elastic-plastic fracture. Experimentally, this made sense because it explained the observed phenomena of load-controlled leak-versus-break behavior for circumferential surface-cracked pipes (as will be shown for several pipe tests), but that LBB behavior is not predictable from circumferential flaw limit-load analysis. Furthermore, the flaw depth effect on toughness also exists for axial surface cracks and even in flat plates with surface cracks. For axial surface cracks the implication was that the long-used empirical surface-crack bulging factor from Maxey/Kiefner (incorporated in many international codes and standards) actually incorporated both the bulging factor and the toughness changes with flaw depth. Because of the change in toughness with flaw depth, when using detailed finite-element fracture analyses for the crack-driving force it is possible to have more error in the failure stress predictions if a constant toughness is assumed for all surface-flaw depths. In fact, in another paper in the ASME 2019 PVP conference it will be shown that the toughness in a wrought TP304 elbow at crack initiation of a circumferential surface crack that was 68% of the thickness was about 1/3rd of the toughness from a standard 1T CT specimen made from the same material. Those results will also be reviewed. Similar results of toughness decreasing with flaw depth in surface-cracked pipes and SENT specimens for various materials over a large range of strain-hardening behavior will show the toughness decrease trend with flaw depth is consistent. To understand these trends more theoretically, 3D FE analyses were also conducted for one initial set of TP304 SENT specimens with a wide range of a/w values (0.3 < a/w < 0.9). The initiation toughness decreased by a factor of 5 to 6 as the crack depth increased; however, the Q value coinciding to the load at the start of ductile tearing was constant for the wide range of a/W values. Q at the start of ductile tearing in the SENT (Qi) was more consistent at normalized distances from the crack tip, rσo/J that were in the range from 0.25 to 1.5 rather than just the popularly considered rσo/J = 2. Hence, by having one SENT test result with a single a/W value, the Ji value for any other a/W can then be calculated. This is consistent with the experimental trends to date, but unfortunately Ji was found to be not proportional to the Q values as is conventionally assumed by many researchers at this time.

Abstract:
The purpose of this document is to provide readers with the coding protocol that authors used to code 22 meta-analyses focused on mathematics interventions for students with or at-risk of disabilities. The purpose of the systematic review was to evaluate reporting quality in meta-analyses focused on mathematics interventions for students with or at risk of disabilities. To identify meta-analyses for inclusion, we considered peer-reviewed literature published between 2000 and 2020; we searched five education-focused electronic databases, scanned the table of contents of six special education journals, reviewed the curriculum vitae of researchers who frequently publish meta-analyses in mathematics and special education, and scanned the reference lists of meta-analyses that met inclusion criteria. To be included in this systematic review, meta-analyses must have reported on the effectiveness of mathematics-focused interventions, provided a summary effect for a mathematics outcome variable, and included school-aged participants with or at risk of having a disability. We identified 22 meta-analyses for inclusion. We coded each meta-analysis for 53 quality indicators (QIs) across eight categories based on recommendations from Talbott et al. (2018). Overall, the meta-analyses met 61% of QIs and results indicated that meta-analyses most frequently met QIs related to providing a clear purpose (95%) and data analysis plan (77%), whereas meta-analyses typically met fewer QIs related to describing participants (39%) and explaining the abstract screening process (48%). We discuss the variation in QI scores within and across the quality categories and provide recommendations for future researchers so that reporting in meta-analyses may be enhanced. Limitations of the current study are that grey literature was not considered for inclusion and that only meta-analyses were included; this limits the generalizability of the results to other research syntheses (e.g., narrative reviews, systematic reviews) and publication types (e.g., dissertations).
