Abstract:
Historic cities all over the world are facing challenges on how to best preserve their architectural heritage. We need good examples to follow. This study explores the historic city of Pingyao in China’s Shanxi Province, and the Qiao Family Courtyard in Qiaojiapu Village of Qi County nearby. Pingyao is a representative of northern Chinese city planning and vernacular architecture during the Ming (1368‒1644) and Qing (1644‒1911) dynasties, and it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Qiao Family Courtyard is famous not only because of its majestic architectural compound and exquisite cra

In this paper, we consider the generalized Fokas–Olver–Rosenau–Qiao equation (also called the ab-family of equation). The local well-posedness and blow-up scenario are investigated. Sufficient conditions on the initial data to guarantee wave breaking are established for b = 2. For b = 2 and 1/6 < a ≤ 1/3, we also show that if the initial momentum density is positive in a compact support and the length of the support is small enough, then wave breaking occurs.

We review the theory of nonlocal symmetries of nonlinear partial differential equations and, as examples, we present infinite-dimensional Lie algebras of nonlocal symmetries of the Fokas–Qiao and Kaup–Kupershmidt equations. Then, we consider nonlocal symmetries of a family which contains the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) and (a subclass of) the Rosenau–Hyman compacton-bearing K(m, n) equations. We find that the only member of the family which possesses nonlocal symmetries (of a kind specified in Sec. 3 below) is precisely the KdV equation. We take this fact as an indication that the K(m, n) equation

Chinese dramas, in recent years, have gained popularity in the international market. To be precise, historical dramas have a market that has increased year by year since 2017. This thesis is about Confucian virtues found in four women characters in a historical Chinese drama titled The Sword and The Brocade. This television drama intrigues the writer to analyze four women characters Luo Shi Yi Niang, Qiao Lian Fang, Madam Xu, and Xiang Yi Zhen in the story because The Sword and The Brocade shows the dynamic relationship between the women characters and the plot is wrapped in historical setting

Abstract Characterizing fatigability enables quantification of an individual’s susceptibility to fatigue in the context of standardized physical task(s). This approach eliminates self-pacing, and is a less-biased, more sensitive approach to assess the presence and severity of fatigue, a critical prodromal symptom of chronic and acute health conditions. Collectively, we have established the Pittsburgh Fatigability Scale (PFS) and Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion at the end of a standardized 5-minute treadmill walk (RPE Fatigability) as prognostic indicators of aging-related outcomes. Abstract KIF18A belongs to the kinesin-8 subfamily and is a plus-end-directed motor, which regulates kinetochore microtubules dynamics to control mitotic chromosome alignment and spindle tension. Studies have shown that genetic depletion or pharmacological inhibition of KIF18A is a promising therapeutic approach for cancers, exhibiting high chromosomal instability (CIN-high), without having a significant impact on the normal division of euploid cells. Here, we report the discovery and preclinical evaluation of ISM9682A, a novel KIF18A inhibitor with excellent potency and high selectivity. ISM9

Abstract The Hippo-YAP/TAZ-TEAD signaling pathway plays critical roles in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Genetic alterations of Hippo pathway regulators, such as NF2 or LATS1/2, have been shown to induce YAP/TAZ-TEAD transcriptional activity, promoting initiation and progression of many solid tumors. In addition, many studies have shown that YAP/TAZ-TEAD activation mediates resistance to multiple targeted therapies, particularly EGFR-KRas-MAPK pathway inhibitors. The TEAD family of transcription factors (TEAD1/2/3/4) share structural similarity and have overlapping functions in tumor dev

AbstractThis article contains a close reading of the accounts of Empress Lü in the Shiji and the Hanshu. Its main argument is that the views of Sima Qian and Ban Gu about her are marked by considerable differences, although they may seem alike at first sight. For Sima Qian, the main feature dominating the life of Empress Lü was fear for herself and for her clan, whereas Ban Gu attributed her actions to naked cruelty. According to Sima Qian, the battle between the Lü family and those members of the Liu family who put Emperor Wen on the throne was one between two equal competitors, whereas for B
