Historic cities all over the world are facing challenges on how to best preserve their architectural heritage. We need good examples to follow. This study explores the historic city of Pingyao in China’s Shanxi Province, and the Qiao Family Courtyard in Qiaojiapu Village of Qi County nearby. Pingyao is a representative of northern Chinese city planning and vernacular architecture during the Ming (1368‒1644) and Qing (1644‒1911) dynasties, and it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. In this paper, we consider the generalized Fokas–Olver–Rosenau–Qiao equation (also called the ab-family of equation). The local well-posedness and blow-up scenario are investigated. Sufficient conditions on the initial data to guarantee wave breaking are established for b = 2. For b = 2 and 1/6 < a ≤ 1/3, we also show that if the initial momentum density is positive in a compact support and the length of the support is small enough, then wave breaking occurs.

We find that the only member of the family which possesses nonlocal symmetries (of a kind specified in Sec. 3 below) is precisely the KdV equation. The paper addresses the so-called Okulich collection (MAE No. 3676) consisting of 250 original titles, most of which possess undoubted artistic value. According to the dated sheets, the prints were produced in the last years of the 19th century, and no later than 1904. We only know that, in 1928, a man named Okulich donated these prints to the Kunstkamera. Two groups

Abstract Social isolation and loneliness have negative implications for the health and care of older adults. Few studies have examined longitudinal patterns of social isolation and loneliness among older adults, or how these experiences are shared by caregivers and personal care networks. This research symposium uses various survey data methods to highlight trends in social isolation, loneliness, and care isolation among older adults and their caregivers. First, we report on trends in social isolation and loneliness over time. Leveraging six waves of data from the Longitudinal Ageing Study Ams

By using fluorescent Ca2+ probes, we determined that dGBP initially mobilized Ca2+ from intracellular pools; the ensuing depletion of intracellular Ca2+ stores by dGBP subsequently activated a Ca2+ entry pathway. Prostate cancer (PC) cells can escape from lineage confinement and be reprogrammed to a drug-resistant, high-plasticity state, however the mechanism underlying this process is not understood. Our group identified the HOX/CUT transcription factor ONECUT2 (OC2) as a mediator of metastatic castration-resistant PC (mCRPC) that can be inhibited with a novel family of small molecules. OC2 was shown to be a lineage plasticity driver that promotes neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). In this study, we sought to uncover the mechanism whereby OC2 exerts effects on lineage plastici

The binding of TFs to cognate DNA is central to their role in gene regulation. An understanding of their DNA binding mechanism is, therefore, of fundamental and therapeutic relevance. CIN resulting from whole genome duplication (WGD) is associated with poor outcomes and metastatic disease, with cancers demonstrating sensitivity to spindle assembly checkpoint disruption.
