Abstract:
Although it is believed unlikely that $\NP$-hard problems admit efficient quantum algorithms, it has been shown that a quantum verifier can solve NP-complete problems given a "short" quantum proof; more precisely, NP\subseteq QMA_{\log}(2) where QMA_{\log}(2) denotes the class of quantum Merlin-Arthur games in which there are two unentangled provers who send two logarithmic size quantum witnesses to the verifier. The inclusion NP\subseteq QMA_{\log}(2) has been proved by Blier and Tapp by stating a quantum Merlin-Arthur protocol for 3-coloring with perfect completeness and gap 1/24n^6. Moreover, Aaronson et al. have shown the above inclusion with a constant gap by considering $\widetilde{O}(\sqrt{n})$ witnesses of logarithmic size. However, we still do not know if QMA_{\log}(2) with a constant gap contains NP. In this paper, we show that 3-SAT admits a QMA_{\log}(2) protocol with the gap 1/n^{3+\epsilon}} for every constant \epsilon>0.

Abstract:
In this paper we give an overview of the quantum computational complexity class QMA and a description of known QMA-complete problems to date (The reader is invited to share more proven QMA-complete problems with the author). Such problems are believed to be difficult to solve, even with a quantum computer, but have the property that if a purported solution to the problem is given, a quantum computer would easily be able to verify whether it is correct. An attempt has been made to make this paper as self-contained as possible so that it can be accessible to computer scientists, physicists, mathematicians, and quantum chemists. Problems of interest to all of these professions can be found here.

Abstract:
Given a verifier circuit for a problem in QMA, we show how to exponentially amplify the gap between its acceptance probabilities in the `yes' and `no' cases, with a method that is quadratically faster than the procedure given by Marriott and Watrous. Our construction is natively quantum, based on the analogy of a product of two reflections and a quantum walk. Second, in some special cases we show how to amplify the acceptance probability for good witnesses to 1, making a step towards the proof that QMA with one-sided error QMA_1 is equal to QMA. Finally, we simplify the filter-state method to search for QMA witnesses by Poulin and Wocjan.

Abstract:
Whether the class QMA (Quantum Merlin Arthur)\ is equal to QMA_1, or QMA with one-sided error, has been an open problem for years. This note helps to explain why the problem is difficult,\ by using ideas from real analysis to give a "quantum" relative to which QMA \neq QMA_1. As a byproduct, we find that there are facts about quantum complexity classes that are classically relativizing but not quantumly relativizing, among them such "trivial" containments as BQP \subseteq ZQEXP.

Abstract:
Using the tool of concatenated stabilizer coding, we prove that the complexity class QMA remains unchanged even if every witness qubit is disturbed by constant noise. This result may not only be relevant for physical implementations of verifying protocols but also attacking the relationship between the complexity classes QMA, QCMA and BQP, which can be reformulated in this unified framework of a verifying protocol receiving a disturbed witness. While QCMA and BQP are described by fully dephasing and depolarizing channels on the witness qubits, respectively, our result proves QMA to be robust against 27% dephasing and 18% depolarizing noise.

Abstract:
We study three variants of multi-prover quantum Merlin-Arthur proof systems. We first show that the class of problems that can be efficiently verified using polynomially many quantum proofs, each of logarithmic-size, is exactly \class{MQA} (also known as QCMA), the class of problems which can be efficiently verified via a classical proof and a quantum verifier. We then study the class $\class{BellQMA}(\poly)$, characterized by a verifier who first applies unentangled, nonadaptive measurements to each of the polynomially many proofs, followed by an arbitrary but efficient quantum verification circuit on the resulting measurement outcomes. We show that if the number of outcomes per nonadaptive measurement is a polynomially-bounded function, then the expressive power of the proof system is exactly \class{QMA}. Finally, we study a class equivalent to \class{QMA}($m$), denoted $\class{SepQMA}(m)$, where the verifier's measurement operator corresponding to outcome {\it accept} is a fully separable operator across the $m$ quantum proofs. Using cone programming duality, we give an alternate proof of a result of Harrow and Montanaro [FOCS, pp. 633--642 (2010)] that shows a perfect parallel repetition theorem for $\class{SepQMA}(m)$ for any $m$.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Cloud infrastructure has become an ideal platform for large-scale applications, such as Video-on-Demand (VoD). As VoD systems migrate to the Cloud, new challenges emerge. The complexity of the Cloud system due to virtualization and resource sharing complicates the Quality of Experience (QoE) management. Operational failures in the Cloud can lead to session crashes. In addition to the Cloud, there are many other systems involved in the large-scale video streaming. These systems include the Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), multiple transit networks, access networks, and user devices. Anomalies in any of these systems can affect users’ Quality of Experience (QoE). Identifying the anomalous system that causes QoE degradation is challenging for VoD providers due to their limited visibility over these systems. We propose to apply end user QoE in the management and control of large-scale VoD systems in the Cloud. We present a QoE-based management and control systems and validate them in production Clouds. QMan, a QoE based Management system for VoD in the Cloud, controls the server selection adaptively based on user QoE. QWatch, a scalable monitoring system, detects and locates anomalies based on the end-user QoE. QRank, a scalable anomaly identification system, identifies the anomalous systems causing QoE anomalies. The proposed systems are developed and evaluated in production Clouds (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Amazon Web Service). QMan provides 30% more users with QoE above the “good” Mean Opinion Score (MOS) than existing server selection systems. QMan discovers operational failures by QoE based server monitoring and prevents streaming session crashes. QWatch effectively detects and locates QoE anomalies in our extensive experiments in production Clouds. We find numerous false positives and false negatives when system metric based anomaly detection methods are used. QRank identifies anomalous systems causing 99.98% of all QoE anomalies among transit networks, access networks and user devices. Our extensive experiments in production Clouds show that transit networks are the most common bottleneck causing QoE anomalies. Cloud provider should identify bottleneck transit networks and determine appropriate peering with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to bypass these bottlenecks.

The purpose of the thesis is to test the heat pipe maximum heat transfer rate (Qmax) of the electronics cooling system. Two test methods were compared with each other which were Traditional Standard Test Method and Dynamic-Temperature-Tracing Method (D.T.T.). A sensitivity study was also achieved by this thesis. In order to maintain axial temperature difference less than 10C and radial temperature difference less than 20C, a non-uniform power load was introduced into the evaporator. The non-uniform power load can let the heat homogeneously flow into the evaporator. The error of Qmax between Traditional Standard Test Method and Simulation result is under 10% , and the error of Qmax between D.T.T Method and Simulation is under 15%. The results of D.T.T. show that in the same test period, when the condenser length is decreasing, then reduce the cooling water temperature would increase the accuracy. The lower temperature of the cooling water was implied a lower adiabatic temperature, then the Qmax was decreasing too and result in the decreasing of the test period. In addition, the test time of D.T.T. method can only increase 5% error equally by 5 minutes reductions to 2 minutes. Therefore, under the maintenance experiment result accuracy, the test time could reduce to 2 minutes.

Abstract:
Music identification by singing/humming, mostly known by Query by Humming, consists in extracting the melody from the singing signal ("humming") and comparing the common extracted melody to the database of known melodies. It has been a challenge in the area of music research for many years, the biggest problems being the comparison of a monophonic music with polyphonic music DB (database), which makes melody extraction ineffective with the presence of various musical instruments and the extraction of the database (DB).This dissertation presents a singing search algorithm based on a database built and tested by the Spanish University Pompeu Fabra, called MTG as it was created by the Music Technology Group. Music Technology Group (MTG), available for use in research work, was recorded by seventeen people, men and women, with different levels of musical experience, who could sing with or without lyrics an excerpt of songs they knew from among a few that were selected from a list, with no time limit or restrictions on what part of the song they would sing. The reference comic was created by us, using the information presented by Music Technology Group (MTG), where we knew which were reference songs but we didn't have access to their audio files due to copyright. The following dissertation then summarizes the approaches to be considered, namely the implementation of DTW - Dynamic Time Warping, widely used in this area, through the Qmax algoritthm that is also used in this project.

This research proposes a method called QMAP (Questions driven- Measurement and Analysis Process Planning) in order to meet goals and practices in Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). QMAP is about 5W1H questions which begin with why, who, when, what, where and how. Before answering the 5W1H questions, we start with background analysis, goal analysis, and process analysis based on a sample company’s management context. Use Cases are then described as the formal information requirements of the MA process support system. In the implementation, we suggest to integrate some tools, such as MS Project, PSM Insight, and IBM Rational ClearQuest, to facilitate the measurement data collection and analysis activities during the software project development. After illustrating the implementation prototype, a checklist for self-appraisal is presented to identify the compliances of CMMI goals and practices, and the incomplete parts for future research extension.

Abstract:
Christopher J. Schneider explains how he uses Qualitative Media Analysis (QMA) to exploit the unconventional data generated by social media in general, and by (public) Twitter feeds in particular. QMA is a method for analysing systematically the documents (tweets, videos) that are produced by social media platforms, which have changed the ways in which we communicate with each other, and also how we communicate with, and about, organizations. Through social media, therefore, researchers have ready access to a range of novel information that is not easily accessed by other means. The approach is illustrated by a study of police–public relationships in Canada; researchers can find it difficult to access police organizations directly. Twitter gives police organizations a ‘new visibility’ which opens them to greater scrutiny. However, police now conduct ‘image work’ through tweets. This research also explored how police respond to recorded instances of violence and untoward conduct posted on YouTube.

Abstract:
Data on historic floods along the Danube River exist since the year 1012. In the Middle Ages, floods were estimated based on historical documents, including original handwritten notes, newspaper articles, chronicles, formal letters, books, maps and photographs. From 1500 until the beginning of organized water regime observations, floods were hydraulically reconstructed based on water marks on old buildings in cities along the Danube (Passau, Melk, Emmersdorf an der Donau, Spilz, Schonbuhen and Bratislava). The paper presents a procedure for assessing the statistical significance of registered historic floods using a comprehensive method for defining theoretical flood hydrographs at hydrological stations. The approach is based on correlation analysis of two basic flood hydrograph parameters – maximum hydrograph ordinate (peak) and flood wave volume. The PROIL model is used to define the probability of simultaneous occurrence of these parameters. It defines the exceedance probability of two random variables, in the specific case two hydrograph parameters of the form: P{Qmax more equal to qmax,p)∩(Wmax more equal to wmax,p)} = P (1) where: Qmax – maximum hydrograph ordinate (peak); qmax,p – maximum discharge of the probability of occurrence p; Wmax – maximum hydrograph volume; wmax,p – maximum flood wave volume of the probability of occurrence p; P – exceedance probability. Spatial positions of the lines of exceedance of two flood hydrograph parameters and the empirical points of the corresponding parameters of the considered historic flood in the correlation field Qmax - Wmax, allow direct assessment of the exceedance probability of a historic flood, or its statistical significance. The proposed procedure was applied in practice to assess the statistical significance of the biggest floods registered along the Danube in the sector from its mouth to the Djerdap 1 Dam. The linear trend in the time-series of maximum annual flows at a representative hydrological station and the frequency of historic floods in the considered sector of the Danube are discussed at the end of the paper.

Abstract:
The effect of dc electric fields on destabilization of a vapor microlayer formed during film boiling at various subcooling levels is investigated. High voltage electric fields up to 2000 volts were applied between a 127 μm heater wire and a screen electrode that is concentrically placed at a radius of 25 mm. The qmax and qmin heat fluxes were also measured for the various subcooling and electric field strengths. Up to 50% increase in the qmax and the qmin heat fluxes were observed when using the electric fields in this range of experimental parameters. The relationship among subcooling level for a given fluid, the heat flux level, and the electric field strength required to reach the qmin condition is of interest. The preliminary experimental results and the bubble departure and transition boiling patterns resulting from destabilization of the vapor microlayer are discussed.

Abstract:
Plate heat pipes, 4.0mm × 40mm × 375mm, of maximum heat transfer capability, Qmax, of the order of hundred W have been developed for the thermal management in power electronic devices such as IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor), MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor), et al. The thermal performance in both horizontal and vertical orientations were experimentally evaluated, and outstanding thermal performance of Qmax up to 600W in the vertical orientation and thermal resistance as low as 0.01K/W were confirmed. In addition to the heat pipes, thermosyphons of the same dimensions as the plate heat pipes were also fabricated and tested as a comparison. The plate heat pipes were then applied to the thermal management systems for a CPU in a 1-U server and for SiC power JFET, and stable and satisfactory cooling performance of the heat pipes for the electronics devices was demonstrated.

Abstract:
In traditional heat pipe performance test, to keep an adiabatic temperature at a constant value, the evaporator wall temperature would be slowly increased when the thermal power was step input to the evaporator of the heat pipe. The maximum heat transfer rate (Qmax) was then defined that when the evaporator wall temperature rapidly increased at a certain amount of power input to the heat pipe. However, it is not easy to distinguish this sharp increased curve and sometimes result in the wrong Qmax data. In addition, it took too long for waiting the evaporator temperature approach to a steady state, thus this process could not use be for the fully check Qmax of the heat pipe. In this paper, we propose a novel quick test method to predict the maximum heat dissipation of the heat pipes namely Dynamic-Temperature-Tracing (D.T.T). The concept of the D.T.T was when we tracing the evaporator and the adiabatic wall temperature, these two temperature curves should be the same trend before the dry-out phenomena was occurred. Theoretically, when the dry-out start to occur in the heat pipe, the adiabatic temperature profile was no longer kept the same temperature profile as that of the evaporator. Hence, the maximum heat dissipate ability of the heat pipe was then easy to obtained at this measuring adiabatic temperature. The data were also compared with those obtained from the traditional standard method at the same equivalent evaporator length, condenser length and adiabatic temperature. In this experiments, sinter powder and groove heat pipes with diameter 6mm 8mm and 200mm length were selected as the capillary wick structure. Comparing with traditional method results, the errors of maximum heat transfer rate are less than 15%. The results also shown D.T.T. method is much fast and reliable compare with the traditional test method. This paper was also originally published as part of the Proceedings of the ASME 2005 Pacific Rim Technical Conference and Exhibition on Integration and Packaging of MEMS, NEMS, and Electronic Systems.
