A novel photomosaic with three-layer information is proposed in this thesis. The photomosaic made by the proposed method not only exhibits the over-arching master image when looked from a distance and the individual tile images when seen closely, but also reveals a third layer of information - a QR Code can be scanned by QR code readers installed on cellphones. A tile classification procedure is designed to dispatch the tile images in different groups according to the luminance property. In the photomosaic construction process, the type of each image block is identified, and a representative tile is searched from the corresponding tile image set to replace the block. Construction methods for the proposed photomosaic with different resolutions are presented, and the FLANN is applied to design the procedure of searching best representative tile image. The proposed scheme constructs the photomosaic with good visual quality and additional robust QR code. The proposed method extends photomosaic with QR code capability, which is novel in the research field of photomosaic. It brings photomosaic from pure visual information exhibition to multimedia data linkage, and increases the feasibility and potential of applying photomosaic in diverse applications such as advertisement and marketing strategy. The learning platform for visual disabilities referred to in this paper. Its structure is divided into eight parts, including establishing data base, data encoding, pattern product, image capturing, image processing, error correction, decoding and audio connection. In this paper we will propose QR Code with error-correction capability, which can be solve the errors occurring in image capturing or image processing, and QR code characteristics, encoding modes, ECC levels and encoding verification are introduced in this text. We divide the decoding into two parts. The first part of a small decoding includes the pattern size, storage modes, data placement, encoding MASK types of data, MASK level, etc. The second part takes ECC code named Reed-Solomon Code to achieve the error correction, we summarized this part is responsible for correcting the received error data. This work combine the algorithm of Shortened Reed-Solomon Code with generator polynomial to increase in QR Code patterns. We can correct errors completely within the range of correction capability. Afterward, the results are simulated by Visual C ++. We will achieve that the learning platform can be implemented by DSP hardware in the future.

Quick Response (QR) code is a widely used matrix bar code with the increasing population of smart phones. However, QR code usually consists of random texture which is not suitable for incorporating with other visual designs (e.g. name card and business advertisement poster). In order to overcome the barrier of random texture in QR code, we propose a systematic QR code beautification framework where the visual appearance of QR code contains visually meaningful pattern without compromising the correctness of decoded message. Our work makes QR code from machine decodable only (i.e. random texture) to a form with human visual pleasing appearance. we evaluate both the subjective and objective experiment and all shows the superior results.

QR Code (Quick Response Code) is one of the widely used two-dimensional matrix barcode developed in 1994 by Denso Wave Japan, it was adopted in automotive industries in the early days. In 1999 QR Codes are approved as JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) X 0510, and approved as ISO/IEC18004 standard in 2000. Despite the use in industries, QR Codes are also suitable for consumers, since mobile devices are more and more popular these days. QR Codes are designed to be fault tolerant by adopting Reed-Solomon error correction, QR Codes with minor damages (7%~30%) should still render readable with the help of error correction. However, there are many potential risks while scanning a specially designed malicious QR Code without users’ knowledge. This may result the device being compromised, or the user may face Phishing attacks by using social engineering tricks. QR Codes have good capability of fault tolerance, it is possible to use this particular characteristic to embed watermarks for the use of validation. With the proposed method, the system can validate if the QR Code is from a trusted source when users scan their QR Codes by reading the embedded watermark, so it is possible to reduce the risk of scanning malicious QR Codes without knowledge. The biggest challenge is that embedded watermarks should be able to survive under the damage done by printing and scanning.

QR Code is one of the most popular two-dimensional barcode, which are widely used for their fast readability and greater storage capacity compared to ordinary barcodes. QR codes have become common in consumer advertising. The growing demand of QR Codes has driven designer to create a specialized QR codes which merged some patterns or visual components, e.g. text, industrial logo or small image, in order to attract attention of people and look away from the usual black and white QR code. We propose a novel algorithm to generate a new style visual QR code, which is the combination of word art and QR code. The word art is a visual representation for text data and color image user input. The challenge is how to embed word art in QR code and also keep the readability of original QR code. First, we propose a function to find good stream lines according edge tangent flow of color image then generate words alone these lines. Second, to keep the readability of QR code, we propose an algorithm to deform the lines with words and adjust the color of words. We generated some results and also validate the readability of resultant QR codes.

The QR code is developing from the one digit barcode. Because, the wide ranges of the barcode usage in our daily life and technology’s improvement, the traditional one dimension barcode system with only 15 digits of numbers or words data are not enough to be use. So to overcome this issue, the two dimension barcode is developed and the QR code is one of the two dimension barcode system with the large data with the small printing size. QR code reading pen is a solution of a mobile device to decode the QC code and show the data in the QR code. This will make the QR code become more easy and convenient to be use. This thesis is mainly focus on the designing of QR code reading pen. The QR code reading pen is the device can capture the QR code image and decode it. This device is mainly use the Windbond 32 bites RISC W99802G processor to design the QR code’s decoder and audio processor. Through the sensor point on the QR code images, the Windbond 32 bites ARM9 CPU will decode the QR code. The structure of QR code reading pen can be dividing into three parts. The first part is the image sensor of the QR codes to capture the QR code images. Second part of the QR code reading pen will start to image process and decode by the W99802G. The final part is to display the data which W99802G has decoded on the LCM screen.

Applications of QR code are used more and more widely during the vigorous development of smart phone. It is because QR code can store a large amount of information, decode quickly and cost little. Users only need to possess a camera with 300,000 pixels and the decode software in their mobility devices so they can acquire information speedily. Now, many libraries begin to use the QR code which integrates the plenty resources in libraries and offer innovative and more convenient services to every user. However, how to design a applicable QR code service which fits the specific requests of libraries is a discussible topic. Applications of QR code in smart phone are greatly common. Except searching collections in libraries quickly, it is able to record text files such as the introduction of works, advertisements and websites. However, reading text is difficult for people who have reading disabilities. On the other hand, the information containing within the QR code is open and usable to everyone. However, if we want to hide the information and only open to specific person, we must encrypt the QR code by special ways to achieve the security of information passing. Using OR code as a guide can offer readers convenient services in library such as searching collections of exhibitions or culture fairs quickly. In addition to libraries, there are also many exhibitions where are held a number of activities without schedules. Except to the way renting a audio guide, the other way is taking a picture of QR code and link to the associated websites to use the audio gallery guide. However, people who have problems in listening cannot use this service. To solve these problems, this study proposes a series of concepts and methods of QR code applications. First, use enterprise system development tools to build a QR platform which is low-cost, easily-produced and meeting needs of libraries. The library bibliographic can be transform to QR code through the standard process, so that readers can access library resources easily and quickly in libraries. In addition, write an text-to-speech application program of QR code by Android platform. It will speak out the information so that people who have reading difficulties can understand the information. Besides, the program offers the easy encoding function of QR code. Third, developing an OR code encryption application program which uses the concept of Morse code with the selections of alternative characters. The program will produce QR code and codebook-QR code, and two must be coordinated to restore the information. Last, establish a guide platform only for mobile device by a free website setting-up tool--Drupal. The manager can establish the guide content for mobile phones, and convert the website into QR code so that users will be able to see the content with pictures and voice by shooting QR code. For people who have difficulties in reading and listening, it can improve their understanding of works.

The secret information is easier to be stolen in the traditional authentication way to enter account and password if a phishing site or the key logger exist. Forthermore, the password might be illegal used repeatly without knowing. Recently, the authentication method such as smart card, USB key, or OTP card needs the extra hardware cost and it is not easier to detect if it got lost because its lower using rate. However, the mobile phone today is one of the most common used and carry-on device. It would be detected in shorter time when a mobile gets lost because it was often used in daily time. One of the advantage in OTP is that it is only used once and it is securer compared to the fixed password. RSA is one of the asymmetric encryption algorithm used widely in many domain and it can afford a secuier way to achieve comnunication. The secret information is hardly to be extracted from encryption content even it was stolen unless the user has the secret key. QRcode is kind of two-dimension matrix code, having high encryption and decryption speed, it can not only sotre large information but also has the error-correction ability and it is widely applied in many service. In this thesis, we try to develop a safe and efficient authentication way by mobile phone and implement it on the access control system. We take the advantage of one-time used by OTP, the ability to enctyption the secret information through RSA and sotre the secret information into QR code. It is not only achieve the effect of the twice encryption, but also prevent the situation of typing error by combineing the webcam and the advantage of QR code which is easy to be detected and decryption. Expect to achieve a safe, quick, and effective authentication method.

A two-dimensional code technique, QR Code, incorporated with camera-equipped mobile devices could be developed to form a context-aware application system. When a mobile device’s user aims his phone camera at a QR Code tag posted in public areas, the QR Code’s camera image augmented with a graphical user interface proposed by our research will be displayed on the mobile device’s screen. Upon that graphical user interface, the user is allowed to interact with it to obtain the information which is user demand. The interactive operation is intuitive and friendly. The variety facilities equipped with most mobile devices, such as the GPS receiver, the mobile internal clock, and Wi-Fi networking, can be coupled with the graphical user interface to achieve a higher goal of context-aware applications. Moreover, QR Code tags posted in public areas or printed in paper mediums can be reused when the subject associated with tags are changed. Reprinting or reposting the QR Code tags is no need. The total cost of the application is reduced by a great number.

ABSTRACT Abstract--QR code is the commonly used two-dimensional(2D) barcode recently with the advantages of larger QR content and error correction capability. General QR reader can scan the contents of the QR code. When the content of the QR code is secret information, the information security becomes important. To protect the security of secret information. The new proposed method can embeddable secret information into the content of QR code. In this new proposed method, the QR content can be easily decoded by a QR reader. Because general browsers can read the QR content, so few people can decoded the QR code can scanning to the secret information. The new method is based on the error correction of the QR code, the QR code reduced distortion, and increases the capacity of hiding secret information. The mechanism based on module so the new method is more efficient. The new way can be applied to mobile phones and mobile devices.

The mobile QR code payment has been developing in Taiwan recently. Through analyzing the business model of current QR code payment systems, there are some risks and problems: 1. Main tools used in QR code payment are mobile phones and credit or debit cards. While losing of mobile phones and these cards, what can people do to predict from credit card frauds or identity theft? 2. Is the QR code correct while paying to the shops? Who is the owner of credit card machine? 3. Mobile payment is a system with high risk of money laundering. After recognizing problems above, this study designs a trusted system by adopting new technology and provides the following solutions: 1. To solve the problems of credit card frauds and identity theft, save the images through the camera at mobile phone while applying for account and paying money. Use facial recognition to make sure the users. Besides, records and comparison of GPS can assure that counterparties trade under a safe condition. 2. The authenticity of QR code is assured by scanning shops’ code by shop owners. At the same time, fixed cashier’s desk reduces the problem of fake credit card machines. 3. The platform stores all the trading datum. Therefore, the system will check each account and inform the related institutions when there are signs of money laundering to deter illegal activities from happening. Finally, this study stands on a macroscale to use VCC model, taking technological and systemic innovation as a starting point to seek out crucial permitted payment units; realizing the new vision“trusted mobile payment” and making sure the positive value will generate feedback to VCC continuously.

Nowadays most mobile phones are combined with photography, and this function also enhances 2-dimension application on hand held device. However, when using camera phone to take pictures, we not only get irrelevant backgrounds to barcode but also get skewed barcode image due to shot angles. Therefore, this paper provides us an algorithm to gather and adjust QR Code. First of all, we use QR Code Finder Patter to find their position, and then we draw a frame to cover the rectangle of the barcode using edge extension of Finder Pattern. Finally, we use plane projection algorithm to transfer this region to standard QR Code and recollect sample for decoder to recognize it.

The learning platform for visual disabilities contains eight parts –establish data base, data encoding, pattern product, image capturing, image processing, error correction, decoding and sound connection. An algorithm in this work conform the function of QR Code ECC, which can be used to solve the errors occurring in image capturing or image processing. Therefore, after the process of decoding, the ability of a Dysopia person to read patterns can be improved.Aside from our focus on the algorithm in QR code ECC, QR code characteristics, encoding modes, ECC levels and encoding verification are introduced in this work as well. We divide the algorithm into two parts. The first part contributes to the minor decoding which covers the pattern size, storage modes, data placement, Mask level, encoding data and ECC level, etc. The second part corresponds to the extremely high error correction capability in QR code. Due to the complicated process in error correction, we use a certain method in ECC code, and it is named Reed-Solomon Code. This work incorporates the algorithm of Shortened RS Code to increase QR code pattern samples. Afterwards, the results are simulated by VC++. We claim the learning platform can be implemented by DSP hardware in the future.

Taiwan is located in the subtropical zone as well as the Circum-Pacific seismic zone. According to historical statistics, in average, about 3 to 5 typhoons each year attack Taiwan, resulting in abundant rainfalls across the island. When typhoons come, mountains are prone to mudflows and landslides, causing traffic disruptions, sand disasters at the middle and downstream areas, as well as serious losses of residents’ lives, properties and public facilities. Emergency water pumping works in local areas rely on large mobile pumps. Maintenance records and task-dispatching records during flood seasons of large mobile pumps are important information. This research focuses on the maintenance records and task-dispatching records of large mobile pumps in order to ensure their functions can be fully applied when they are dispatched. This research develops a smartphone application importing the QR code technology. Combining the identification technology of the QR code as well as the efficiency of the smartphone, the application helps to reduce typos, manpower, and papers when producing maintenance records and task-dispatching records of large mobile pumps. The application provides good interface for users to input data easily without complicated system construction and setup. Evaluating the developed application, it researches expected effects of all economics, technology, and operation aspects.

Along with the trend that the use of QR code has grown popular, threats to information security impose a great concern. Generally speaking, users do not know the information encoded with a QR code, thus, are not capable of detecting malicious attacks. Therefore, there is a need for verifying the integrity of QR codes. In this paper, we revise the software code that is used to encode plaintexts into QR codes and to decode QR codes back to plaintexts, and add to it the capability for integrity verification. The international standard ISO18004 provides us with a basis for this software project. Our approach, in comparison with a previous work, can be called an integrated approach, as we add the capability of integrity verification directly into the encoding and decoding code itself.

In the past thirty years, the Internet has been developing explosively rapidly. Now that personal computers and mobile devices have reached most households and people, the distance between people seems to be shortened and it is a lot more convenient to communicate with others. The Internet has made life very convenient. Since the Internet is required for many things in day-to-day living, e-commerce services have become more significant than before. Through the Internet and electronic cash, users will no longer need to carry around physical money and neither will they be bound to certain places to make purchase. Users will only need to connect to the Internet to make trading and purchase online. Records of trading will be saved to allow users to keep track of expenses. To utilize the convenience of mobile pays, this paper proposes a QR code electronic cash system to realize the concept of electronic wallet through smart mobile devices. In the present study, the trapdoor hash function was used to readjust the electronic cash withdrawal system through which users withdraw fixed-amount electronic cash from bank. With the rapid development of mobile communication technology, mobile subscribers can send multiple messages such as text, picture, and video, etc., besides simply through voice in the past. They can also obtain information about finance, sports, local or international news as they need and have prompt supplementary and value-added services. In addition, short message service is the most popular among subscribers and brings lots of profits to each carrier. Although carriers provide encrypted protocols to short message service during its transmission, these still not belong to end-to-end encryption. Hence, plaintext are still exposed to the carriers. If they don’t have an effective safety mechanism, then short message service could be stolen by anyone who attempts to. With this unsolved drawback, many researchers brought up different end-to-end encryption protocols about short message service in order to provide extra protection and relieve customer’s concern. The current end-to-end safe short message service protocols integrate public key cryptosystem with symmetric encryption algorithm to against illegal access. However, the biggest challenge in adopting public key is verification. Although the popular solution is using certificate to assure the correctness of public key, it adds burdens to storage, communication, and computation during verifying process. It becomes serious issue to limited resource of mobile communication device without doubt. Therefore, this research provides two kinds of end-to-end encryption protocols about short message service. The Scheme 1 applies QR-Code and one-way hash function to send the short message service securely. It is completely different from the traditional public key cryptosystem and upgrade operation efficiency substantially. In Scheme 1, senders and receivers must accomplish key exchange beforehand, thus, it restricts part of its application. For this reason, the concept of the self-certified public key cryptosystem is introduced in Scheme 2. It not only can solve the problems of key exchange successfully, but also can further derive the benefits inherited from self-certified public key system, such as verifying public key without certificate and reducing storage, communication, and computation costs.

In recent years, Quick Response (QR) Code is an emerging and popular technology. QR Codes has successfully applied in mobile payment services, digital content download, website quick links, and many other applications. On the other hand, smart devices are becoming increasingly popular in recent years, and almost every student has one in hand. In this thesis, we propose a smart roll call system using QR code. The system has the advantage of rapid response when compared to traditional roll call methods. By using smart phones, the roll call for all the students of a class can be completed in less than ten seconds. To increase the security of the system, we use time-varying dynamic QR codes, and all messages exchanged between the web server and smart phones are encrypted. In addition, the attendance records are automatically stored to a Google spreadsheet. The teacher and students can use these records through a web service at any time and any place later.

With the quantity increasing every year, counterfeit medicines have become a serious problem worldwide. On one hand, the rapid growth of counterfeit medicines not only endangers the health of medicine users, but also destroys public confidence in drug safety; on the other hand, counterfeit drugs can also influence the reputation of pharmaceutical manufacturers and the willingness to continue investment in drug research. In order to combat counterfeit medicines, the EPCglobal has developed the Electronic Pedigree Standard for authenticity check. So far, the RFID architecture has been the practical framework of pharmaceutical electronic pedigree most widely discussed. However, due to higher implementation costs, only a few pharmacies or major medicine dealers have installed the RFID readers while RFID tags are still barely seen attached at the bottom of the medicine bottles. And when consumers can hardly identify the authenticity of the medicines, the challenge against the safety of their medication ensues. To solve the problem mentioned in the preceding paragraph, this study employs the QR Codes (Quick Response Codes) as an instrument for consumers to check the authenticity of medicines. Same as the RFID, the QR Codes can be detected and recognized through specific devices. Meanwhile, since the booming growth of smartphones in recent years, the internet penetration rate has increased year by year. As a result, this study stores the URLs, which contain certain medicine information, in the QR Codes. Consumers can photograph the QR Codes printed on the packaging with their mobiles, decode and acquire information about the medicine from the Internet to judge the authenticity. By doing so, elevating the convenience of medicine audit is achieved. Nonetheless, considering the susceptibility to forgery and alteration of the QR Codes, this study puts forth a method for the authenticity check of the QR Codes. Via the authenticity check of the QR Codes, consumers can better decide authenticity of the medicines.

Abstract In recent years, the technology sector has been developing rapidly, and books are no longer limited to the "original" appearance. Traditionally printed books, e-books and even interactive books are all showing that books have evolved from the stereotype and have brought to us a new look. Somehow, technology has been erasing the traditional "touch," and it's harder to feel the emotions of books that are expressed through ink and heat. On the other hand, e-books have what traditional books don't. Voices and dynamic performances are the ones missing from a paperback. With paperbacks and e-books combined, a new spark has been born from the two. This creation vitalizes paperbacks with QR codes that connect to dynamic media contents, and thus adds extra value to both. We have presented three main aspects of QR codes: audio, image, and 3D effects. Using these three, we created the digital contents in this piece of work. On the outside, we used special materials, laser engraving, sewing, and pictures to enrich the appearance and the paperback portions. This is a tribute to my beloved grandfather watching over me, thus named "For Grandpa."

Quick Response (QR) Code is a monochrome and widely used matrix barcode with the increasing population of smart phones. In recent years, the QR Code steganography methods have been proposed that encoding the text or change the QR Code’s structure to hide the secret message. In order to store more information the High Capacity Color Barcode (HCCB) have been proposed by Microsoft which the HCCB can use an eight-, four-, or two-color (black-and-white) palette to store more and more data. Similarly, the case does not interfere with the general QR Code Reader to decode the message, the use of color can make QR Code have more data message. In this paper, we proposed color of QR Code to hide the secret message, and using Exploiting Modification Direction (EMD) and Modified Signed Digit (MSD) to increase the security, and secondly, using CRC32 and MD5 authentication modes to ensure message integrity.

The traditional learning environment is teacher-oriented. Due to mobile devices becoming lighter, thinner, shorter and smaller and the apps being easy to install, mobile learning is possible. The ubiquitous mobile learning model has become mature and a popular era with the coordinatation of software and hareware. The main purpose of this study is to make a Hakka learning app using the tool -- MIT App Inventor 2, via the convenience of QR Code. This helps the learner to learn the common Hakka vocabulary in a familiar environment. This is so called autonomous and meaningful learning in a situated learning environment. The app is divided into three parts: 1. Vocabulary learning : the content of Hakka vocabulary are some classroom items. The tool can help the learner imitate the voice and correct his voice via the example voice of vocabuary and sentence. 2. Quiz : the app randomly selects built-in vocabulary and tests the learner familiarity with the vocabulary of Hakka. 3. Statistics : the app records what the learner has learned and what he had quizzed in the database. It provides a reference to the teacher and a diagnostic learning situation of this learner. The results show that using Hakka learning app via situational teaching methods can increase students’ motivation and willingness. It lets learners experience the different learning fun of the traditional teaching throughout his learning process, then it enhences the love of Hakka and further develops his skills of listening, speaking and reading in Hakka.

QR Code is a popular 2-D bar code. Traditional QR Code is composed of black and white blocks. Therefore, the content is unknown before scanning. If a color icon, such as trademarks, can be embedded, the usability is better. Researchers proposed some methods to improve the appearance of QR Code, making QR Code itself provide a visual message. Referencing from other previous works, in order to avoid damaging the coding structure, the QR Code visual effects must accommodate the integrity of the coding structure to have a better accuracy. Nowadays, with the widely used of electronic displays, QR Code does not only appear on paper, but also appear in electric billboards. As a result, the color icon QR Code can be shown as animations dynamically, making economic value of QR Code higher. Generating dynamic color QR Codes which keeps the integrity of its structure, is the goal of this thesis. In this thesis, the halftone technology, and the concept of the center module is applied to get the black and white block QR Code. Some generated blocks will cover the embedded icon in the QR code, and is uncovered using the Gauss-Jordan elimination method. The characteristics of the QR reader is also considered to reduce the center module. Finally, a series of color icon QR Codes to are used to get the dynamic color icon QR Codes. Our method produces a number of color icon QR Codes and dynamic color icon QR Codes. Through the user scan experiment, we validated that the QR Code generated by our method can be identified by the scanning software commonly used in the market.

Bar code technology has been developed and readied in recent years. Besides, the holding ratio of mobile camera phones was growing fast. To combine two trends, the beginning of correlative applications using the mobile camera phone to recognize the bar code is appeared on the market. However, the problems, i.e., the lower resolution provided by mobile camera phone, the poor illumination condition of the practical environment, and the big angle of taking a bar code image, still exist and have to conquer. This thesis proposed 1D/2D bar code recognizing algorithms under using a mobile camera phone with the image resolution of one million pixels. Firstly, the image of 1D/2D bar code is taken and a sequence of image processing that includes bar code segmentation, geometric correction, and features extraction is executed. Next, the information embedded in bar code is decoded based on image features, Experimental results show that proposed 1D/2D bar code recognizing algorithms can significantly improve the effects from the lower resolution and illumination condition.

In recent years, QR Code and NFC are applied more widely. The smart phones have been more popularized. Unfortunately, not all smart phones are built with NFC ability. The requirements of QR code applications are a camera-enabled smart phone or handheld devices. Most services provider support QR Code and NFC techniques concurrently. These two techniques support fast linking and complete connection and allow users and vendors obtain considerable convenience. Original QR Code need only one camera and screen on two ends of communication, separately. If the QR Code is copied, the message will be leaked easily. In contrast, NFC using repeatedly exchanges to ensure the safety of message. The first message in the mechanism of NFC is an activation code that provents messages leakage. The exchange mechanism of QR Code proposed in this thesis is similar to NFC. The first QR Code is an activation code, and following QR Codes are the encrypted messages. The receive device need decrypt them to decode, authenticate or reply these messages. In this thesis there are three applications are modified to use the QR Code exchange mechanism. First, using QR Code for electronic trading. Second, using QR Code to unlock electronic door locks. And the last one, using QR Code to network connection.

Smart mobile devices are popular in recent years. That promotes the development of e-commerce. In Taiwan, some companies pilot a mobile payment system using QR Code. Users must download a specific application (APP) prior to using the system. With the APP, the user can choose one of his credit cards listed on the smart phone’s screen to pay, after snapping a QR Code which contains product information. Security and efficiency are two important factors that determine if the payment system be adopted. The existing QR-Pay systems generally demand users and merchants to register themselves with a trustworthy third party such as a certification authority, and this would lead to unsatisfactory efficiency. This paper proposes two novel schemes for QR-Pay. Each of the proposed schemes combines a payment protocol and the HMAC algorithm to achieve data confidentiality, data integrity and transaction non-repudiation, more importantly, to improve efficiency.

QR Code is the most widespread 2D barcode in the world. It is a kind of information tag which can easily be accessed by taking a picture or scanning. A QR Code can be decoded correctly even when part of the code was corrupted. This high fault-tolerant property makes QR Code popular and widely applied in many commercial applications. In conventional QR Code the modules are designated on an image by black and white square patterns, which can easily be identified by machines; however, the noisy black and white patterns reveal no intuitive information about the QR Code to viewers. This thesis presents a method of generating visual meaningful QR Code by synthesizing the conventional QR Code with a theme image. It is fulfilled by dividing the theme image in equal-size non-overlapping blocks, and modifying the average luminance of each block to its corresponding module type on the QR Code applying the well-designed Gaussian modulating function. The proposed method generates the visual QR Code without referring to the encoding process of the QR Code. Compared with similar Visual QR Code synthesizing method in the literature, the proposed method has good performance, both in visual quality of the generated Visual QR Code and the response time in accessing the QR Code content.

User authentication is one of the fundamental procedures to ensure secure communications and share system resources over an insecure public network channel. Thus, a simple and efficient authentication mechanism is required for securing the network system in the real environment. In general, the password-based authentication mechanism provides the basic capability to prevent unauthorized access. Especially, the purpose of the one-time password is to make it more difficult to gain unauthorized access to restricted resources. Instead of using the password file as conventional authentication systems, many researchers have devoted to implement various one-time password schemes using smart cards, time-synchronized token or short message service in order to reduce the risk of tampering and maintenance cost. However, these schemes are impractical because of the far from ubiquitous hardware devices or the infrastructure requirements. To remedy these weaknesses, the attraction of the QR-code technique can be introduced into our one-time password authentication protocol. Not the same as before, the proposed scheme based on QR code not only eliminates the usage of the password verification table, but also is a cost effective solution since most internet users already have mobile phones. For this reason, instead of carrying around a separate hardware token for each security domain, the superiority of handiness benefit from the mobile phone makes our approach more practical and convenient.

This dissertation tries to find out the application of QR Code in the area of Mobile Marketing by investigating the consumers' perception on QR Code on the base of present understanding and practice of QR Code. Data such as the most interested position or the content of QR Code are collected through online surveys on smart phone users. According to the analysis of data collected from surveys, consumers feel fewer interests on moving QR Codes like on a bus or a train. Furthermore, most consumers scan QR Code because of curiosity. Some people also scan for attending activities or receiving samples. Practicing mobile marketing with QR Code conforms the Innovation Diffusion Theory: "low complexity but relative benefit for consumers". However, on the account of reasons like habit of using smart phone and the exposure of QR Code, These is still some improvement needed when practicing mobile marketing by using QR Code. Since QR Code has characteristics like "more data storage", "diversification of data storage", "low scanning cost", "data encryption", "portable" and "designable", there is advantage by using QR Code when practicing mobile marketing. However, some issues as how to rise the interest of consumers, how to correspond QR Code with website and whether the content is suitable for smart phone screen, should be careful considered. Through innovate marketing tools, consumers have more willing to scan QR Codes as well as participants in marketing activities. With more participants, there will be an innovate and successful marketing event. Key words: QR Code, Innovation Diffusion Theory, Mobile Marketing

ABSTRACT QR code has large storage capacity, inexpensive design cost, and strong anti-damage capability that makes it have diverse applications in our daily life. Most handheld devices have been embedded with higher resolution cameras to support the implementation of QR code applications. But QR code is a simple dot-matrix image that is impossible to disclose embedded information in its image to allow users to read it directly. This research studies the feasibility of embedding pictures in QR code image and makes the QR code no longer just an ice-cold image, but contains life and multi-element image. This study uses handheld devises as a platform and applies QR code technology to design a professional baseball ticket purchasing system. When users activate the QR code image on the mobile phone at the entrance of baseball field the electronic gate will interact with the QR code ticket automatically. This can reduce the waiting time to buy tickets and to line up for admission. Information contained in the mobile ticket itself can be open information and/or secret information. To show the user related information, such as team name, game date and time, on the mobile ticket without passing through the bar code reader can be achieved by the proposed system. The secret information can be hidden in the QR code and need to be decoded by the bar code reader. Due to the limited screen size of handheld devises, this study investigates how to effectively use the space and strong anti-damage capability of QR code to embed both the secret and open information on it. Experimental results will be provided to verify the feasibility of the proposed system. Key words: QR code, handheld devices, mobile ticket

With the features of large storage capacity, low cost and anti-damage, the 2D (Two-Dimensional) barcodes have potential for developing various applications. Utilizing 2D barcodes, many applications such as logistics management, information exchange and identification can be realized. Recently, Taiwan government and industry sectors are striving to promote 2D barcodes related research. Consequently, more and more manufacturers apply 2D barcode technology to the operation of business and factories and good remuneration has been returned. The 2D barcode has the properties of security and not easy to forge itself because the embedded information cannot be decoded directly. Nevertheless, perfect security is not guaranteed to someone who is familiar with 2D barcode technologies. Information hideaway is indispensable in storing the message in 2D barcode. In our research, the cryptology has been integrated with 2D barcode technology. RSA algorithm of public- key cryptology has been employed into RSA QR Code to fulfill a guide system. This method can not only enhance the security of the information but also provide diversified services. While 2D barcode technology has been applied in the exhibit exposition or illustration, the intellectual property rights or illegal copy problems can be avoided. Moreover, multiple level accesses to the information can be achieved. We believe such a mechanism can make 2D barcode application more widespread.

Integrating handheld devices and mobile Internet, QR code becomes a tool connects traditional media with digital technology. Though it tends to the way of utmost importance channel in integrated marketing communication, a lot of business owners and marketing planners still concern its effectiveness. In order to establish its validity and explore the crucial factors between QR code design and advertising communication path, this study conducts two experiments. The Fist experiment is based on dual-coding theory and cognitive load theory, 2×2×2 mixed design, to inspect the impacts on one’s intention of usage and attitude while altering QR code design and its information complexity. The results revealed that compared to no description QR code, participants described with the image exist higher intention and attitude to use. In the other side, the interaction between information complexity and QR code design indicates a better attitude towards ads in participants while low information complexity collocates with text descriptions QR code. Only when consumers have higher scan willingness, the following communication process can be turned on. Therefore, the second experiment is based on AISAS model, and examined the influences of media richness, messages content and needs for cognition. Data analyzed by structural equation modeling, the results indicated that: i). when consumers see the QR code ads, they will follow with the flow which is attention, interest, search, action and sharing in the model. ii). AISAS model affected by high media richness and incentives messages. Particularly, while there is in high media richness, participants have a higher search, actions and sharing intention. iii). there is no moderate effect of need for cognition in AISAS model.

In recent years, QR code is widely used in various scenarios and environments. Due to the common use of smart phone and the enhancement of camera capability, applications related to QR codes grow fast. Therefore, the processing of the QR code images become an important task. The thesis discusses the situation when QR codes are posted on curved surfaces or printed on spherical products. While taking picture of this kind of QR code, the image captured is no longer a standard QR code. Some kind of distortion can occur and we call the captured image as a “QR image”. In this thesis, our main purpose is to rectify QR image and decode it successfully. QR code is constructed by black and white squares, which are called “module”. This thesis tries to generate curved lines which separate each module on QR image. After having those segmentation lines, we can map each module’s color (black or white) back to single block of square template. Then the QR image can be rectified to standard QR code. The key point of the thesis is to generate those curves. We use conic section to approximate those curves and we call this method “conic segmentation”. The method we mentioned can be separated into two parts. First, we use the edges of position detection pattern and reflection conic fitting (referred to as RCF) to generate first eight segmentation lines in both horizontal and vertical direction. The second part of conic segmentation is to find QR image corners which belong to the same curve by calculating corner to curve distance. We fit those corners to conic curve. In this part, we use previous conic curve to predict next possible conic curve. After doing conic segmentation, it is easy to rectify QR image back to standard QR code. By using the proposed method, we can decode lots of severely distorted QR images.
