Full textQuality control is a subject which draws particularly the attention of those concerned with the improvement of the quality of goods and services. The concern of firms for quality results in a constant development of statistical methods as applied to quality control, and presently, every effort is turned towards the finding of optimum methods in this field. Nevertheless, the improvement of a product's or service's quality cannot be the result of quality control alone ; in fact, we need the help of other techniques which may support it in this task. Quality circles have shown their greet success in this field. The study of their contribution to quality is being done with greet care and interest. In short, the combination of the two functions, quality control and quality circles, is very useful in order to succeed in improving the overall quality of goods and services

Full textWe present a method of fine grain QoS control for multimedia applications. The method allows the control of application software whose actions are parameterized by a quality level parameter and whose execution times are unknown. The method allows the construction of a Controller which computes adequate action schedules and corresponding quality levels, so as to meet safety and optimality for a given platform. In other words, we want to have a maximal utilization of the available time budget without exceed it. The Controller uses a quality management policy for choosing, for each action, a schedule and quality levels meeting the QoS requirements. We extend and improve results of previous into two directions. We propose a symbolic quality management method using speed diagrams, a representation of the controlled system's dynamics. From this representation we propose a method allowing relaxing the number of call to the Controller with respect to the QOS requirements. In a second time, we developed a stochastic approach based on probability distribution functions for the execution time of actions. Our method is parameterized according to the importance attributed to deadline misses. This means that the user is given the possibility to express how hard the real time constraints are. Besides, given a value of the parameter, we can compute the expected deadline miss ratio for the controlled application. We present experimental results including the implementation of the method and benchmarks for a video MPEG4 encoder running on a bare machine

Full textThe maintenance of the small and middle - sized companies in the industrial circuit demands, on the one hand, that the products they are offering on the domestic and international market are of a high level quality and on the other hand comptetitively priced. This high level of quality can only be attained by a reorganisation of the company and by a total participation of the staff, obtained by making them aware of their responsibilities and their intention to be enterprising and to give great importance to quality, by the setting up of a production system and a control system which allow customer satisfaction at a minimum cost. The solution put forward here is the system of "integrated statistical control" whose qualitative aspect, mathematical approach, costs and especially economics of sumpling by a bayesien type process form the subject of a development which allows fast application when the aspect to be controlled is a measure and when the product is to be mass-produced. Furthermore, the setting up of this system forces the company to observe, analyse and correct its weaknesses thus permitting it to be more competitive and more progressive in an environment which is more and more restrictive

Full textThis thesis presents an application of the neural networks to the industrial monitoring. We propose an architecture of Radial Basis Function Networks which exploits the dynamic properties of the locally recurrent architectures. In this sense, we propose an improved version of the k-means algorithm which allows to determine easily the neural network parameters. The validation tests show that at the convergence, the neural network is situated in the good generalization zone. The neural network was then decomposed into elementary functions easily interpretable in industrial automation languages. The applicative part of this thesis shows that a real-time monitoring treatment is possible thanks to the automation architectures. The neural network loaded in a PLC is completely configurable at distance by the TCP/IP communication protocol. An Internet connection allows then a distant expert to follow the evolution of its equipment, and also to validate the artificial neural network learning

Full textThe recent financial scandals that shaked the financial and audit markets led to debates in the professional world and academic world about the concept and the evaluation of the quality of audit. As the traditional approach of evaluation was not efficient enough in the past, news economic regulations (law Sarbanes Oxley Act) adopted new ways of measurement supporting the evaluation of the quality of auditing processes. The new role of quality evaluation performed from the committee of audit constitutes one of the most important measures substantiate this orientation. The academicians also plead for strengthening of this role of the committee of audit, considering the important place th committee of audit, considering the important place the committee takes in the controlling process. The objective of this research activity is to develop a tool for evaluating the quality of the audit process, enabling the committee to strongly establish the important role given to them with benefits for this committee. The conceptional design and the validation of this tool are carried out within the framework of an experimental protocol, taking procedures of Churchill from other similar disciplines, and adapting them to the context of our research. Integrating qualitative phases (47 discussions with auditors and administrators) and quantitative (142 questionnaires collected from administrators), this step is targeted towards the evaluation of the quality of the process of audit (49 indicators of quality, distributed on six stages of the process), and other elements considering the relation between administrator and auditor, with methods of evaluation of the mission of audit including types of progress reports to be communicated to the auditing committees

Full textInspection-control has undergone several changes that question its place and role, particularly in the scope of this study. The multiplicity of actors and inspection-control procedures makes it complex to understand and questions the legal nature and legal regime applicable to the different types of controls. Furthermore, inspection and control now appears to be called into question by the standardization of professional practices and new approaches to support and continuously improve quality in the establishments and services in the field under study. These approaches, devolved to public authorities or private organizations, take the form of certification of health care institutions, accreditation of professionals in health care, evaluation of social and medico-social institutions and services, or auditing. They are largely based on licensing and contractualization law. It is thus necessary to investigate whether a good activity of the State is only rule-making or also regulation, whether control has changed in nature, whether it has diversified or whether it has regressed to the benefit of other, more flexible activities under the influence of competition law, Community law and the State's budgetary situation. The question of the legality of inspection as a particular control and its articulation with quality approaches guide this research

Full textThe aim of this dissertation is to assess the nature and use of performance measurement tools in the context of total quality management. We establish and test a model on a sample of 91 agri-food companies all operating in France. However, given the fact that empirical studies on this topic are scarce and do not always give consistent results, additional analyses are proposed. Three main findings arise from our analyses. First, we highlight the existence of the relationship between TQM and the use of multidimensional performance measurement systems. We show that the implementation of TQM practices is accompanied by a use of multidimensional performance measurement systems for those companies that have adopted one of the ISO 9000 standards. This relationship seems to be much better explained by non-financial indicators than by financial indicators. Similarly, it is in the non-ISO accredited organizations that total quality control and total quality learning are both positively and significantly associated to the multidimensional performance measurement systems and especially to non-financial indicators. Then, we identify a positive and significant relationship between TQM and the use of performance measurement tools. The results show a positive and very signifiant relationship between the degree of implementation of TQM practices and a joint use (diagnostic and interactive) of performance measurement tools. Finally, the test of mediation hypotheses shows that the use and the nature of the performance measurement tools play important roles in the relationship between TQM and organizational performance. When performance measurement tools are introduced in the model, the predictive power of this model increases which demonstrates the importance of these tools. We observe a partial mediation of the multidimensional performance measurement systems and diagnostic use

Full textOur research question is concerned with the influence of electronic exchanges organizations on data quality improvement. Product information is a set of data that identify and describe a product of a manufacturer. Electronic exchanges organizations deal with the sending information systems, the receiving information systems and their interconnection. A case study based qualitative research is conducted to understand how electronic exchanges organizations are perceived to participate to data quality improvement from manufacturers’ and retailers’ points of view. Our results show that sending, receiving and interconnected architectures, exchanges automation and exchanges standardization all influence the perceived improvement of some data quality dimensions. In a processing view of exchanges, our main theoretical contribution is to show that this set of factors can all be conceptualized with interdependence. We define interdependence through three levels: technical, informational and organizational. In each of these levels, we propose that interdependence types can be positioned between two extremes that are dyadic interdependence and sector interdependence. Dyadic interdependence refers to multiple sequential interdependencies between two firms. Sector interdependence refers to a pool interdependency between all the firms

Full textColor is a major criterion for many sectors to identify, to compare or simply to control the quality of products. This task is generally assumed by a human operator who performs a visual inspection. Unfortunately, this method is unreliable and not repeatable due to the subjectivity of the operator. To avoid these limitations, a RGB camera can be used to capture and extract the photometric properties. This method is simple to deploy and permits a high speed control. However, it's very sensitive to the metamerism effects. Therefore, the reflectance measurement is the more reliable solution to ensure the conformity between samples and a reference. Thus in printing industry, spectrophotometers are used to measure uniform color patches printed on a lateral band. For a control of the entire printed surface, multispectral cameras are used to estimate the reflectance of each pixel. However, they are very expensive compared to conventional cameras. In this thesis, we study the use of an RGB camera for the spectral reflectance estimation in the context of printing. We propose a complete spectral description of the reproduction chain to reduce the number of measurements in the training stages and to compensate for the acquisition limitations. Our first main contribution concerns the consideration of the colorimetric limitations in the spectral characterization of a camera. The second main contribution is the exploitation of the spectral printer model in the reflectance estimation methods

Full textThis PhD Thèsis presents the development and characterisation of enzyme sensors for the détection of L-lactic acid, D-lactic acid and acetaldehyde, three compounds that are very important for the quality of wines. The sensors exploit the association between the specifity of NAD+-dependent dehydrogenases and the sensivity of electrochemical (amperometric) detection. Substarte determination is achieved through the measurement of the quantity of reduced cofactor (reduced nicotinamide adeninedinucleotide or NADH), which is formed in the enzymatic reaction. NADH is detected by constant potential oxydation at the surface of screen-printed carbon electrodes modified with an electron transfer mediator, Meldola Blue. This approch has allowed to perform - after optimising the working conditions - direct, sensitive, reliable and interference free measurements in real samples of wine

Full textThe thesis deals with the problem of visual quality control of high quality manufactured products. We make the hypothesis that the control of this quality will be still realized many years by a visual inspection of the products. The first chapter presents a bibliographical study of different elements relating to the quality control in general, and particularly, the visual inspection. The chapter 2 describes the generic approach that we propose to perceive, then evaluate an anomaly. This approach separates in a formal way the perception of an anomaly from its evaluation. We show that this distinction gives a better comprehension of the variability sources in the visual inspection. Based on the approaches very largely used within the framework of the sensory analysis, our approach thus formalizes these two steps in order to reduce the variability in the decision of conformity during a visual inspection. The chapter 3 proposes a structuring metrological approach having for objective to guarantee the accuracy and the reduced variability in time and space. Our suggestion, based on the concepts of a dimensional metrology, integrates the specificities related to any sensory measurement carried out by the man, and in particular the part of significant subjectivity which can be associated to this measurement. Based on the evaluation of only one anomaly, we describe in the chapter 4 an approach allowing to decide acceptance or refusal of a product combining various anomalies on various surfaces. Our approach, based on the Taguchi's loss function, makes it possible to generalize with the visual inspection the approaches of tolerance largely used in geometrical quality of the products. The chapter 5 illustrates the application of these concepts within the company with which we collaborated. It also proposes a synthesis of profits that such an approach can produce

Full textThis thesis focuses on the convergences between the quality insurance of the ISO 9001 norm and the care quality insurance of health organisations. The problem is placed in the referential context of two frameworks. That of public health and the management of health systems of the European Health policy of the WHO in the 21 st century, including accreditation. Thus the public health fuction of management is explained. Centred on health results, the cost-effectiveness relation, quality crtiteria based on scientific proofs, its objectives are the improvement of public health and sanitary safety. That of management sciences, including the evolution of the conceptions and pratices of quality, thus the certification. The search for convergence between these frameworks of reference and an experimentation, brings out the conditions of pertinence of the ISO 9001 norm, version 2000 for the care quality insurance. For the health organisations, it is about : 1. Defining the characteristics and levels of acceptance of their basic service (individual and collective health programmes) and peripheral service (care quality insurance programme) relating to public health ; 2. Considering the programmes as critical and major processes of a quality system oriented process, by applying the principles of the ISO 9001 referential to them ; 3. Their strategy, their quality policy, complimentary norms and legal exigencies, their stand concerning care management models, and the tractability of their quality system. Finally, regarding the configuration of this system, the contributions of socio-economic diagnosis and quality system audit are shown

Full textQuality is essential to translation. If one accepts, in accordance with international standards, that quality is the ability of a process and its resulting product to satisfy the requirements of the parties involved, a conception that would not coincide with reality in practical terms, then it is necessary to look at how quality is attained. While one would agree that the criterion for judging the quality of a translation is how effectively it communicates, the determining factors (individuals and resources) involved in its production are little known and largely ignored. However, failing to identify and recognize the decisive role that internal and external factors play in the process can often lead to a low-quality translation. This study asserts the principle of attaining total quality control in translation as working toward excellence – complete absence of error - at all stages of its production. Its stages and determining factors are organised as separate links in a chain making up the whole: an error occurring at whatever points inexorably pulls around a vicious circle of low (or non-) quality. Across the board and everyone's responsibility, quality is the overall result of the stages a process goes through (internal quality) as well as the determining factors (external quality) brought to bear on the production of the final product. We intend to investigate the links in the chain, highlighting their indivisibility as well as the responsibility each one has in determining the quality of a translation

The presence of official discourses within the contemporary institutions of higher education, reveal in general, that the academic community know little about the actual life of their teachers and researchers as well as their work conditions. Nowadays, the Quality of Education is the bed rock of the global official discourse at the institutions of higher education. While official discourses attempt to transform the institutions of higher education into efficient organizations through a persuasive rhetoric of the quality, administrators of these institutions try to turn the academic community into a homogenous and anonymous group, in order to rule social and academic control. The official discourses establish an episodic collective memory, the official memory, throughout institutional norms and regulations making the institution able to perform memory and social regulations thought rituals and celebrations of these norms. This research analyzes the social configurations of the professors in facing the policies and proceedings of the Quality of Education through the Reflexive Hermeneutic theoretical approach and the Narrative Inquiry as a methodology. The research took place at the University of Guadalajara, in Jalisco, Mexico, 2005-2009. The results highlight the necessity to look for new theoretical and methodological approaches to study the influence of the quality of education as an object of study in construction that founds today its logic and actions only through the paradigm of productivity

Full textAlthough the therapeutic potential of natural substances is known for thousands of years in traditional medicine, it knows an increasing renewed interest in modern pharmaceutical industry as being an inexhaustible source of therapeutic active substances for various diseases. However, the quality control of these products, which is necessary to obtain reproducible biological activities and new commercial approvals, remains a great analytical challenge. Indeed, natural substances show a myriad of biological activities that can result from a specific or synergistic effects of many different components and this information remains still mostly unknown. Furthermore, because they are derived from living organisms and hence are affected by biotic and abiotic factors, it is extremely difficult to ensure a constant qualitative and quantitative composition for these natural substances among different batches. Consequently, there is a need to develop analytical strategies able to assess the “sameness” of natural productions that is analytical strategies able to assess required similarity between different batches by integrating acceptable qualitative and quantitative variations. To achieve this, the concept of analytical fingerprint has become more and more popular and is now starting to be accepted by regulatory authorities such as the FDA. This so-called “pattern-approach” aims at: (i) gaining effective and stable information about common features of a given strain (ii) evaluating similarity and difference with chemometric methods. If this concept has been quite largely studied for the quality assessment of herbal medicines, it is very still very little developed for animal active substances like snake venoms, which are of increasing interest in therapeutic research due to their rich composition in peptides and proteins. The routine quality control of venom raw substances is still often limited to a single gel electrophoresis which is clearly insufficient in terms of components resolution to achieve similarity-/dissimilarity between strains.MethodsIn this context, we have developed an original analytical fingerprint strategy that combines capillary electrophoresis and chemometrics. CE is a particularly well suited technique for peptides/proteins separation allowing to obtain complex specific fingerprints. Batches of different snake venoms have been analyzed with many replicates. All electropherograms have been processed using several chemometrics approaches (baseline correction, signals alignment, automatic recognition of common peaks …) to obtain a representative analytical trace that can be used for the quality assessment of different production lots.ResultsWe show that CE is a very well adapted method to produce highly specific and repeatable analytical profiles of different venom strains. Chemometric methods applied are very efficient to produce an average fingerprint for each strain that integrates features common to all batches and define acceptable variations in quantitative composition. Similarity/dissimilarity of different batches can then be assessed in an automatic manner.ConclusionAll presented results show the efficacy of CE combined with chemometrics to assess the quality of snake venom raw substances. It can be easily implemented in industrial quality control. This strategy can be implemented in future for other type of therapeutic substances of animal origin

Full textManufacturers increasingly care about noise made by their products, whether it is in car, in aeronautics, or recently in home appliances industry, because of much more restricting regulations regarding noise level. But beyond noise, users and population’s demand concerns more about sound quality.Among domestic equipment, the innovate hybrid boiler developed by e.l.m. leblanc is an interesting product energetically speaking as the condensing gas boiler is combined with a heat pump in a limited space. The performance coefficient of the heat pump is 3.7 (3.7 kW/h provided for an electric consumption of 1 kW/h), resulting in large savings on users’ bills. However, its high noise level prevents its installation in living spaces, such as kitchen, restricting the conquest of a larger market. His noise should be 40 times lower to meet regulatory level. The design of a new generation of hybrid boiler has been the opportunity to start this study aiming not only to reduce noise level, but also to carve sound in order to make it less annoying.A new approach, called Projected Acoustics of Dynamic Systems (PADS), has been used and has acted as a thread for our study. It takes into account acoustic, vibrating criteria and also those from sound quality well upstream from product design stage, thus avoiding expensive modifications or even rejection of the finished product if the latter is considered noisy.Acoustic and vibration measurements have been carried out on existing hybrid boilers and they have been analyzed in order to identify optimal modifications that may reduce noise. Solutions have been suggested and their effects have been evaluated by measurements. The regulatory noise level is reached with suggested measures. To integrate sound quality component into design, listening tests have been carried out to identify the sound target of the new hybrid boiler. Statistical analysis (PCA, FCA, Variance Analysis) brought out parameters impacting on noise perception, sometimes very subtly. We have tested the effect of the integration of musical tone and a correlation between noise pleasantness and this parameter was observed. This observation has concentrated this thesis on the development of an original method that can define the physical parameters of a fan so it makes a given musical tone. To do so, we have suggested a new semi-experimental approach that can predict line spectrum of a fan and we have used an optimization algorithm in order to find the optimum geometrical parameters. This new method has been validated with two test benches. It can be used to curve tonal noise of a fan, a turbomachine, or more generally a rotating machine

Full textThe objective of this study is to propose an empirical approach of quality management practices. The approach is based on experimental data from Algerian and French Construction Company, its intensive and large used raises the problem of its permanence and durability. However, it always presents a serious and rough progress in the procedure of production. This subject permits also to define the conditions to obtain a successful integration of the quality management in construction

Full textCould the cost of poor quality be defined as analysis and control tool for the system management of quality? How could it be participate in the development of management control? this is the problematic of his research. Three research axis have been defined : first, the coherence of the systel management of the quality. Second, the coherence of the quality measurement and third, the cost of poor quality relevance regarding to the management control. The subject has been divided into three parts. The first, gives the state of art concerning the evolution of the quality concept. This part contains three chapters : the concept of quality, its economic measurement and its way of evaluation. The second part deals with research methodology. Its contrains four chapters concerning the research structure, the conceptual framework of the system management of quality, the conceptual framework of the quality measurement and the statistical tools use un the thesis. Finally, the third part emphasizes results analysis and gives comments. It's devided into three chapters : the univariate analysis, the multivariate and the relevance analysis of the cost of poor quality
