Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the dimensions of the Service Quality Scale (SERVQUAL) and its relationship with the essential attributes of Primary Care. This is a qualitative research with elderly people living in eight cities in ‘Serra Gaúcha’ region, in Southern Brazil, with Family Health Teams and Primary Care Teams. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and the responses of each dimension were analyzed, relating them to the essential attributes of Primary Health Care. First contact accessible evidenced in the dimensions reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy and tangible. Continuity emerged in reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. Comprehensiveness appeared in the dimensions reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. Finally, coordination was reflected in reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. The SERVQUAL scale proved to be a useful instrument for the evaluation of Primary Care.

Abstract:
SynopsisThe quality of care for pregnant women and their babies must be a high priority to ensure the health of future generations. Unique features are the need to deal with at least two ‘patients’, that the process of parturition is usually normal, and that there is a long history of incorporating women's views into definitions of good care. Methods of assessing structure, process and outcome of care are described, and the limited evidence of their efficacy in improving care. High-quality care in the future will require collaboration between women, midwives, family doctors and obstetricians.

Abstract:
School nurses need to become more influential administrators, managers, and entrepreneurs. They must learn to lead and collaborate effectively in designing, implementing, and evaluating coordinated school health programs. Quality assurance is an essential ingredient in this process that requires accurate, timely, and confidential incident reporting and data analysis structures. These structures, in turn, can serve as the foundation of evidence-based practice and overall system improvement. School nurses can and should assume a key role in the process and thereby continue to meet the challenges of the more sophisticated school health services that today’s student population requires. In this way, school nurses will continue to protect and advance the health and safety of the students who are entrusted to their care.

Abstract:
This article reviews quality of health care initiatives beginning with the quality assessment/quality assurance movement of the 1970s. Conceptually, modern quality of care management is rooted in the intellectual wort of Avedis Donabedian who defined quality of care as, a combination of structure, process, and outcome. Donabedian's model is presented and some limitations are pointed out. In the late 1980s and 1990s. the health care industry adopted total quality management (TQM). More recently, the pursuit of health care quality has led to substantial performance measurement initiatives such as ORYX by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and MEDIS by the National Commission of Quality Assurance. The importance of CONQUEST, a freely available performance measurement database developed at the Harvard School of Public Health, is noted and discussed. The article concludes with a list of challenges facing public and private parties interests in health care quality improvement.

Abstract:
Purpose Quality assuring elderly care through a viable and feasible standard framework is a major challenge for Asian governments. Although several attempts have been made to tackle foreign care worker (FCW) shortage, assuring the quality of the care they provide has been overlooked. The original framework allowed a better control over service quality to assure the elderly about their care according to the agreed standards. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach Through several Japanese Governmental meetings, a new Asian Care Certificate (ACC) program is discussed based on the Japanese Care Certificate (JCC). The governments’ representatives adopted the JCC to form the ACC, which enables the ACC board to evaluate care workers and to intervene whenever the desired quality level is not achieved. Findings The author describes a new program. The findings of this paper will be confirmed when the ACC is implemented. Practical implications Using the ACC framework, the challenge in providing a high-quality care service using FCWs across Asia would be partly resolved. FCWs’ quality of life might also gradually improve especially regarding to their human rights. Originality/value The ACC provides a new framework. Its value is recognized if one considers that many Asian populations are rapidly aging and many governments compromise quality by employing overseas workers to solve care worker shortages.

Abstract:
Pharmaceutical care and quality assurance were discussed during several of the sessions at the Fourth International Symposium on Oncology Pharmacy Practice. Representatives from through out the world presented models of pharmaceuti cal care for oncology practices in their regions. Models included those relevant to the institutional and home care settings. The concepts of quality accountability, continuous quality improvement, the effect of health care on patient outcomes, and quality assurance were also discussed. The role of pharmacists in influencing outcomes and in developing policies to ensure quality in health care delivery were additional topics addressed.

Abstract:
This article describes a model of health-care services that ensure the high quality of health-care service and effective brand creation for a hospital. The problems described here that are connected to improving the quality of health care in Poland indicates that high quality of health care builds a positive and strong image of a health-care unit on the medical market. The contents of this article involve basic definitions of quality in health care and also the way the quality is understood and perceived from patient’s and hospital’s point of view. The article also describes a health care quality model, to which health care units should aspire in order to create a positive picture of said units, simultaneously improving and maintaining high quality of health care services. The article investigates the quality factors of health care services, which influence the healthcare units’ brand, its functioning on the market and patient-perceived quality of services. The described management model, which ensures efficient brand-building of healthcare units through services’ quality, takes into account changes in healthcare system and does so in order to ensure the improvement in healthcare units’ functioning.

Abstract:
Purpose Many countries are developing primary care collaborative memory clinics (PCCMCs) to address the rising challenge of dementia. Previous research suggests that quality assurance should be a foundational element of an integrated system of dementia care. The purpose of this paper is to understand physicians’ and specialists’ perspectives on such a system and identify barriers to its implementation. Design/methodology/approach The authors used interviews and a constructivist framework to understand the perspectives on a quality assurance framework for dementia care and barriers to its implementation from ten primary care and ten specialist physicians affiliated with PCCMCs. Findings Interviewees found that the framework reflects quality dementia care, though most could not relate quality assurance to clinical practice. Quality assurance was viewed as an imposition on practitioners rather than as a measure of system integration. Disparities in resources among providers were seen as barriers to quality care. Greater integration with specialists was seen as a potential quality improvement mechanism. Standardized electronic medical records were seen as important to support both quality assurance and clinical care. Practical implications This work identified several challenges to the implementation of a quality assurance framework to support an integrated system of dementia care. Clinicians require education to better understand quality assurance. Additional challenges include inadequate resources, a need for closer collaboration between specialists and PCCMCs, and a need for a standardized electronic medical record. Originality/value Greater health system integration is necessary to provide quality dementia care, and quality assurance could be considered a foundational element driving system integration.
