Abstract:
The wide spread of the Internet has allowed businesses to present information, sell products, and provide relevant services through websites. Many researchers argue that websites are an imperative channel for communication and online shopping. However, businesses struggle to retain customers due to low switching cost and lack of face-to-face communication. Customers who do not appreciate the user interface and information presented in the website may choose a competitor’s site to achieve their goals. Therefore, e-loyalty, which is about attracting and retaining customers in an online environment, is crucial to remaining a successful business. In the context of e-loyalty, the website serves as a gateway to access loyal customers. Many studies have found that website quality affects customer’s perceived risk. Perceived risk is the extent to which a customer believes there is a potential for an uncertain or negative outcome with an online transaction. Several studies have found an inverse relationship between perceived risk and purchase intention, which is the likelihood that a customer will purchase from the website. Studies have also shown that an increase in purchase intentions positively affects e-loyalty. In this thesis, the effect of perceived risk on purchase intentions is studied. Purchase intentions can be further categorized as initial or continued purchase intention. Initial purchase intention refers to the likelihood that a customer will purchase from the website for the first time. Continued purchase intention refers to the likelihood that a customer will return to the website to purchase again in the future. Although purchase intentions have been recognized as a major factor affected by website quality and subsequently impacting e-loyalty, few studies have examined how initial purchase intention affects continued purchase intention. To fill the aforementioned research gaps, the purpose of this study is to examine whether: a) perceived risk moderates the relationships between website quality and initial/continued purchase intention, and b) perception of initial purchase intention influences continued purchase intention in an online context. Survey methodology was used to investigate the relationships between the above factors. The study population was a sample set of University of North Florida students. Multiple regression technique was employed for analyzing data collected from a questionnaire. This research contributes to the understanding of the moderator that could impact website quality in the business environment. Such an understanding would allow researchers to explore a wide range of variables that could affect the relationship between website quality and purchase intention to increase customer retentions.

Abstract:
Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Master of Technology (MTech) in Information Technology In the Faculty of Informatics and Design, at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), 2013<br>Healthcare services are vital to all human beings, as our daily lives depend on them. In South Africa approximately eighty per cent of the population uses the public healthcare services. In the current healthcare systems data corruption exists which threatens data quality in the systems. The aim of this study was to understand the existing information handling processes and factors that affect the accuracy and integrity of healthcare data. A qualitative research methodology, under the interpretive paradigm was used for this investigation. Activity theory is used to formulate an analytical framework, the “healthcare information system data quality activity theory framework”. This was very helpful for understanding the healthcare information handling process as an activity system that consists of actors with individual goals. Though the goals are varied, they are joined together by the common objective. The logic of the framework is that a realisation of goals in the activity system depends on a number of factors. At the beginning, there must be a synchronous inter-linkage between the goals of the actors, the mediating factors such as adequate tools, user skills, enabling policies, and the systematic procedures that are diligently enforced. It is assumed that any situation which prevents this inter-linkage will have a negative impact on the realisation of the sought objective. The framework therefore, was very helpful in informing questions, the data collection and ultimately, the analysis processes. The public healthcare sector is the main source of data; other sources were literature, the Internet and books. The analysis of data was done using content analysis to find what themes emerge and the relationship (s) between them in what is being analysed. The findings reveal a lack of adherence to information handling procedures and processes which lead to corrupt data in the systems. In addition, most users have limited skills, which is a hindrance to them in performing their duties as expected by the healthcare sector. In fact, the healthcare sector is also challenged by systems which are constantly slow or down, due to limited network capacity and human errors. The presence of these challenges suggests non-adherence to data handling procedures, which explains the existing corrupt data in the healthcare systems. Therefore the recommendation is that the public healthcare administration must enhance their training programs. The training must be re-designed to cater for the needs of all users, regardless of their background. It needs to improve user skills and boast their confidence in using electronic systems. Obviously, any changes and improvements need to be sustainable, and the sector is unlikely to succeed without enforcement of new procedures. Therefore, adherence to data handling procedures must be strictly enforced, with policies thoroughly communicated to the users. That way, the sector will not only have systems and related policies, but also ensure their full exploitation for improved service delivery in the public healthcare sector in South Africa.

Abstract:
As management fashions go, few have been more pervasive than Quality Management Systems (QMS) like Total Quality Management (TQM) and BS EN ISO 9000 (ISO 9000). Their prominence was fuelled by a mixture of ideological and economic considerations as, by the early to mid-1990s, many organisations were keen to indicate that they were active participants of the `quality revolution'. The exponential growth of interest in QMS was reflected in the library literature although only a small percentage of academic library and information services (LIS) subscribed to the systems. The thesis examines the relationship between QMS and motivation in such organisations. It ventures beyond the benign vision of the `quality gurus' by critically considering the relevance QMS might have for understanding contemporary developments within the organisation and management of academic LIS. The investigation determined that the quality of implementation is a key factor. In addition to senior management commitment, staff are motivated to QMS if there are accompanying changes in communication and training. The more successful LIS were those that did not treat staff as if they were barriers to change, but involved them in the process of implementation. While there were many stated improvements it was discovered that many of the `new' practices within the QMS LIS were not dissimilar to many of the initiatives in their non-QMS LIS counterparts. The investigator identified factors that also limit QMS as a framework for motivation and posits that the crux of the problem can be traced to the concept of `quality' itself. As a self-evident good, workers become morally bound to quality, which enhances their own exploitation. There was evidence that managers can use this legitimating device to quell resistance, via peer pressure, and instil cultural homogeneity.

Full text
Abstract:
The motivation for this research is a concern with the high rate of information system failures reported in the academic literature and in practitioner publications. It is proposed that the adoption of the customer-centred ideals and methods of quality management in information system development will increase the likelihood of the delivery of successful information systems. The approach taken in the research is to work with the ideas of multiple perspectives - organizational effectiveness, work-life quality, and technical artefact quality - and multiple stakeholders. The research approach is to use action research. The fieldwork comprises three phases. The first phase involved interviewing system developers and the second phase consisted of two case studies of implemented information systems. This preliminary analysis, together with a theoretical investigation of the foundations of quality, was used to inform the development of a quality approach to information system development. The information system development methodology (ISDM) is based upon Multiview, a multiple perspective approach to information system development, and the total quality management method used is quality function deployment. The resultant hybrid methodology is known as ISDM/Q. The ISDM/Q is tested using action research on a live system development project concerned with the development of a wind tunnel control and data collection system. Extensive organizational analysis was conducted to place this software development within a wider organizational context, involving quality requirements workshops and quality planning. The outcomes of the research are assessed in terms of the learning recorded with respect to the framework of ideas, the methodology (ISDM/Q) and the domain in which the action research took place. The field work showed that there were benefits to using a quality metaphor in information system development but that this would require a significant change in the culture and style of information system development organizations. A practical contribution of the research is the development of quality function deployment for information system development.

Abstract:
Many companies are increasing their competitiveness through quality improvement. However, a widely held view among quality practitioners is that companies simply do not know the true total cost of quality, which are mostly hidden among the general overhead of the business. This problem is often attributed to an inappropriate costing system. Thus, any system that assisted companies in identifying and properly quantifying these costs will be valuable. This research, therefore, was aimed at developing a Quality Cost Information System for manufacturing industry, and to show that such a system could provide a basis for analysing quality costs and developing and evaluating the quality improvement process. A literature review of the quality literature highlighted that the major problems that hindered potential users from implementing an effective and efficient Quality Cost system were: current quality cost measurement systems were limited by their inability to trace quality costs to their source; quality was manageable only if it could be measured; quality cost did not easily fit into the traditional cost accounting structure; traditional accounting systems were unlikely to change radically to accommodate proper quality costing. This literature review was complemented by an industrial survey aimed at identifying knowledge of quality costing and current practices in manufacturing industry. The findings of the literature review and industrial survey formed the basis for the remainder of the study. As part of an integrated solution, three approaches have been proposed and detailed: 1) A graphical model of quality costing in the form of a visual tool to facilitate the introduction and communication of a quality costing information system within the organisation. 2) A proposed integration of Activity Based Costing tools with the theory of quality costing to provide a system that can deliver valuable information. 3) A Software tool for the design of Quality Costing Information Systems. The thesis concludes with the major findings and issues raised from the research undertaken. This is followed by recommendations for the successful pursuit of the beneficial implementation of the proposed quality costing system and tools along with several suggestions for further work and future research potential.

Mycroft, Matthew. "An Information System for Health Care Quality Measures." Digital Commons at Loyola Marymount University and Loyola Law School, 2016. https://digitalcommons.lmu.edu/etd/426.

Full text
Abstract:
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is slowly transforming the U.S. Health Care System from a fee-for-service structure, which reimburses providers based on the quantity of patient encounters, to a new structure that emphasizes the value of care. Since value can be interpreted differently among various stakeholders, quality measures have been established by government and nonprofit sources. These quality measures serve as agreed-upon criteria by which to measure the achievement of value in health care. While these measures help to improve the quality of health care, they can also be burdensome to physicians and health care organizations. Implementation of quality measurement programs requires the involvement of highly intelligent people who think about what to measure, what to focus on, and how to accomplish outcomes. Thus, the process of selecting measures and compiling recommendations (reports) can be time consuming, complicated, and expensive. Applying SELP coursework fundamentals, key process activities outlined by INCOSE, and the DoD Architectural Framework, a quality measure information system was developed. The primary business objective (top level requirement) of the project was to reduce the cost and improve the quality of the measure selection and report generation processes. First, fundamental systems engineering principles were applied to understand the problem, conduct a lean analysis, identify stakeholders' needs, and derive a set of requirements to meet the primary business objective. Subsequently, five alternative solutions were evaluated to identify a preferred solution that could best meet the primary business objective while minimizing risk. The DoD Architectural Framework and course material from Integration of Hybrid Hardware and Software Systems (SELP 560) was then applied to develop, represent, and understand the information system architecture. Finally, leveraging Management Information Systems Coursework (MBAA 609), a system prototype was created utilizing Microsoft Access. The system prototype demonstrated a capability to reduce the cost and improve the quality of the health care quality measure selection and report generation processes. Utilizing pre-selected associations between various quality measures and categories of care, comprehensive quality measure reports can be generated in a matter of seconds for many categories of medical care. These comprehensive reports serve to educate users about various quality measures and to aid administrators in the development of comprehensive quality measurement programs. In one particular example, health care organizations will utilize the generated quality measure reports for the purpose of redesigning compensation and incentive pay for physicians and health care executives. In this particular example, estimates show that the system prototype is expected to reduce the labor associated with measure research and selection by approximately 49%, resulting in thousands of dollars of estimated savings. Additionally, the system will automate complicated measure search processes, which will increase the quality and consistency of the reported data.

Abstract:
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD<br>The use of Information Systems (ISs) has been widely accepted and proven to increase the service quality in many organizations. Academic libraries have embraced the use of ISs and have implemented them to perform different activities. The efficient utilization and management of ISs in libraries will help libraries to derive maximum benefit from adopted ISs. The research used the DeLone and McLean (2003) IS success theory to determine the impact of IS management on the quality of the IS, the use of the IS and the benefits gained. The researcher used nine (30%) of the thirty university libraries which are members of the consortium of academic and research libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH) - an association of libraries that help with the IS and electronic resource use of member libraries. A mixed method approach with questionnaires, interviews combined with content analysis of the university websites was used to gather data. Findings indicated that academic libraries in Ghana are making use of some ISs including; ILS, DAM, social media, websites, among others, amidst a number of challenges. The research also revealed that the management of ISs affects the quality thereof. Quality of ISs affects use, and use affects the benefits gained from use. The researcher proposed an IS management standard guideline which Ghanaian academic libraries could adopt for using and managing ISs to enhance efficiency and better service delivery.

Tukker, Mary Jean. "Water quality information system for integrated water resource management." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/52054.

Abstract:
Thesis (MEng)--University of Stellenbosch, 2000.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The processes of monitoring, modelling and managing the water quality of a catchmerit system including all its unique complexities and interrelationships requires an innovative tool or set of tools to help water managers with their decision making. Numerous methods and tools have been developed to analyse and model the real world. However, many of these tools require a fair degree of technical expertise and training to operate correctly and their output may have to be translated or converted to meaningful information for decision-making using a further set of analytical and graphical display tools. A more appropriate technique for management would be to combine all these functions into a single system. The objective of this research was to develop one such tool, an integrated water quality information system (WQIS). A review of the literature revealed that there has been extensive research and development of tools for the management of individual aspects of water resource distribution, augmentation and quality. However, these tools have rarely been integrated into a comprehensive information system offering decision support to a wide variety of river users and managers. Many of the literature sources also noted that a process of interactive development and integration (i.e. including the intended users in the decision of which components to include, the interface design and the graphical display and output) was vital to ensuring the information system becomes an integral part of the users routine work and decision-making. The WQIS was developed using the recommendations from numerous knowledgeable persons in response to questionnaires, interviews and a prototype demonstration. It includes the results of hydrodynamic river and reservoir simulations and the ability to perform operational river scenario testing. However, the development process is continual and always evolving based on the current or local requirements of water managers.

Abstract:
Migration from the traditional to web-based library paradigm is usually accompanied by remodelling of many library core activities particularly those associated with user-centred services. In this capacity of the web-based service paradigm, many academic libraries have established networked environments within which many virtual-user communities are forming and growing. Understanding the virtual user's needs in these communities has become the first priority of networked libraries for designing, running and managing effective virtual reference services to meet the increasing expectations of the invisible users. To achieve this, the networked libraries strive to improve their quality of service by applying a wide range of such quality management approaches as quality function deployment (QFD) and LIBQUAL™. QFD initially stresses on driving continuous improvement of the user-oriented services towards end-user satisfaction. The paper attempts to incorporate the QFD to be integrated strategically in designing and managing e-information provision within networked library service environment. The UAE University Library is used as a case study, where the evidence-based librarianship (EBL) approach has been employed in three studies to identify user needs and acceptance of e-services. Based on these studies, the paper presents a model aimed at streamlining e-services for virtual users in ICT-rich learning environments.

Abstract:
In agent-based e-commerce systems, most buying agents rely primarily on ranking algorithms to make purchase decisions. These algorithms are based on one or a combination of several features of goods information, such as price, seller's reputation, etc.; however, information quality is usually ignored. This leads to the problem that product information is retrieved without proper regard to their quality. Realizing the importance and necessity of information quality for buying agents, this thesis introduces an Information Quality (IQ)-based ranking approach. A model which combines information quality assessment with user expectation is proposed. An approach on representation and interpretation of information quality is also developed. Two sets of experiments are conducted to verify the applicability of the proposed model and explore the effectiveness of individual information quality dimensions. The experimental results show that information quality based ranking does lead to better user satisfaction. Keywords: Information quality, agent system, e-commerce

Abstract:
Limited research has been conducted on how system administrators actually can affect information systems (IS) after they have been implemented; hence, this study examines how system administrators can affect IS success in an implemented IS. The study identified a system administrator´s affect on the three IS quality dimensions in the DeLone and McLean IS success model. The empirical findings was based on a single case study where the data was collected through interviews with the system administrator and the system assistants, but also through a questionnaire answered by the users of the IS. The empirical findings suggested that the system administrator can affect IS success through the IS quality dimensions both directly and indirectly. The system administrator´s affect on IS success proved to be highly dependent on the external system vendor and the structure of the internal support unit.

Since the moment at SSU is no system that allowed to collect the views of students in the learning process there was a need for a monitoring system to ensure the quality of the learning process. The system is implemented as a web application. Represents an online questionnaire, which allows students to assess the quality of the educational process and competence of teachers. The system will make a detailed analysis of the results and receive data in a convenient representation. The system has three levels of access: administrator, student representative of the department, which delineates the interoperability of the system. The monitoring system will facilitate the provision of quality education at Sumy State University.

Abstract:
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration maintains a challenging schedule of planned and on-going space exploration missions that extend to the outer reaches of our galaxy. New missions represent a huge investment, in terms of actual costs for equipment and support infrastructure, and personnel training. The success of a mission is critical considering both the monetary investment, and for manned missions, the lives which are put at risk. Tragedies involving Challenger, Columbia, Apollo 7, and the near tragedy of Apollo 13 exemplify that space exploration is a dangerous endeavor, posing extreme environmental conditions on both equipment and personnel. NASA, the National Science Foundation and numerous independent researchers indicate that predictive simulations have the potential to decrease risk and increase efficiency and effectiveness in space exploration activity. Simulations provide the capability to conduct planning and rehearsal of missions, allowing risk reducing designs and techniques to be discovered and tested. Real-time simulations may improve the quality of the response in a real-time crisis situation. The US Army developed Layered Terrain Format (LTF) database is a uniquely architected database approach that provides high fidelity representation of terrain and specialized terrain query functions that are optimized to support real-time simulations. This dissertation investigates the question; can the unique LTF database architecture be applied to the general problem of celestial body representation? And if so, what benefits might it bring for mission planners and personnel executing the mission? Due to data limitations, this research investigates these questions through a lunar analog setting involving S band and Earth-bound communication signals as might be needed to conduct manned and/or robotic mission on the moon.; The target terrain data set includes portions of the Black Point Lava Flow in Arizona which will be used for NASA's 2010 Desert RATS analog studies. Applied Research Associates Inc, the developer of the LTF product, generated Black Point databases and made limited modifications to the LTF Viewer tool, RAVEN, which is used for visualization of the database. Through the results attained during this research it is concluded that LTF product does provide a useful simulation capability which could be used by mission personnel both in pre-mission planning and during mission execution. Additionally, LTF is shown to have application an information system, allowing geo-specific data of interest to the mission to be implemented within its layers. Acredita-se que o presente trabalho possa contribuir para a redução das barreiras técnicas e psicológicas e simplificar o complexo processo de implementação do sistema da qualidade no meio acadêmico.<br>Quality assurance and quality management are based on principles that are universally applicable. The principles origin from industry and international trade, e.g. for conformity assessment. The importance of the quality of testing services is obvious, characterizing the economical impact on international trade. Moreover, the economical development and related powers by large common and national markets result in the formation of trade barriers, reducing the opportunities for free competition. To some, the globalization of the economy was seen as a wrong direction; others were stimulated to further harmonization of the quality practices. This has led today toa well- organized system of rulesand norms and mutual recognition thereof, resulting in internationally accepted accreditation of testing laboratories. The rapid growth of testing laboratories with quality systems was therefore due to (i) the strong need for internationally accepted export certificates and (ii) the need for objective demostration of the quality of services as a warranty to the quality of products and services on competing markets. Impelled by these developments the testing laboratories providing services to production and export of goods became increasingly trustful. But laboratories in the reserch, development and teaching areas were initially immune to these views on quality practices and/or had no external drivinig forces for this. In this dissertation aiming at a Master degree, the presented work focuses on development of quality practices in the academic environment and development laboratories. The main consideration of this workis to implement quality practices without deviating from the rigid structure of the norms. To this end, various typical quality pactices were evaluted against the requeriments of the international standard ISO/IEC 17025. This has resulted in dissecting and ordering these requirements by priority. This should contribute to reduce the technical and psychological barriers and simplify the implementation of this complex process in the academically environment.<br>El aseguramiento la gerencia de calidad tienen como bases principios universalmente aplicables. Abstract:
E-learning systems provide a promising solution as an information exchanging channel. Improved technology could mean faster and easier access to information but does not necessarily ensure the quality of this information. Therefore it is essential to develop valid and reliable methods of quality measurement and carry out careful information quality evaluations. Information quality frameworks are developed to measure the quality of information systems, generally from the designers¿ viewpoint. The recent proliferation of e-services, and e-learning particularly, raises the need for a new quality framework in the context of e-learning systems. The main contribution of this thesis is to propose a new information quality framework, with 14 information quality attributes grouped in three quality dimensions: intrinsic, contextual representation and accessibility. We report results based on original questionnaire data and factor analysis. Moreover, we validate the proposed framework using an empirical approach. We report our validation results on the basis of data collected from an original questionnaire and structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in particular. However, it is difficult to measure information quality in an e-learning context because the concept of information quality is complex and it is expected that the measurements will be multidimensional in nature. Reliable measures need to be obtained in a systematic way, whilst considering the purpose of the measurement. Therefore, we start by adopting a Goal Question Metrics (GQM) approach to develop a set of quality metrics for the identified quality attributes within the proposed framework. We then define an assessment model and measurement scheme, based on a multi element analysis technique. The obtained results can be considered to be promising and positive, and revealed that the framework and assessment scheme could give good predictions for information quality within e-learning context. This research generates novel contributions as it proposes a solution to the problems raised from the absence of consensus regarding evaluation standards and methods for measuring information quality within an e-learning context. Also, it anticipates the feasibility of taking advantage of web mining techniques to automate the retrieval process of the information required for quality measurement. This assessment model is useful to e-learning systems designers, providers and users as it gives a comprehensive indication of the quality of information in such systems, and also facilitates the evaluation, allows comparisons and analysis of information quality.

Full text
Abstract:
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 109-116).<br>In a fast moving competitive sector like banking, the customer service department often finds it difficult to keep up with the pace at which customer concerns are raised. On the other hand, the speed at which this department responds to customer concerns determines the difference between keeping a customer and losing one. Thus, most banks have moved to technology to expedite the process of capturing and processing customer complaints. Unfortunately, not every customer serviced by these banks finds the deployed technologies accessible and usable. Among the customers who find technologies in the banks inaccessible and unusable are blind customers. In part, the inaccessibility of technologies used in banks may be attributed to poor requirements engineering. Poorly elicited requirements lead to the design of products which fail to satisfy the needs of the diverse population they service. The purpose of this project is to specify neatly validated requirements using the SMART criterion for a system that can be used to evaluate levels of customer satisfaction with services offered to them by banks. The envisaged system should be able to cater for the needs of the blind customers served by these banks. Data for the study was collected from blind people in a vocational school in Botswana, customer care managers in five different bank brands and the system designers. Data was collected through guided interview sessions, which on average lasted for thirty minutes per respondent. Data from the respondents was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Data was summarized into tables, graphs, diagrams and charts to reveal trends. Data was further analyzed to specify the requirements of a system that allows blind customers to provide feedback to their banks. In an attempt to align the requirements to the specific needs of blind customers the specified requirements were reviewed and validated, guided by the principles of the SMART criterion.

Abstract:
Health service organizations are increasingly required to deliver quality healthcare services without increasing costs. The adoption of health information technologies can assist these organizations to deliver a quality service; however, this again exposes the health information to threats. The protection of personal health information is critical to ensure the privacy of patients in the care of health service organizations. Therefore both quality and information security are of importance in healthcare. Organisations commonly use management system standards to assist them to improve a particular function (e.g. quality or security) through structured organizational processes to establish, maintain and optimise a management system for the particular function. In the healthcare sector, the ISO 9001, ISO 9004 and IWA 1 standards may be used for the purpose of improving quality management through the establishment of a quality management system. Similarly, the ISO 27001 and ISO 27799 standards may be used to improve information security management through the establishment of an information security management system. However, the concurrent implementation of multiple standards brings confusion and complexity within organisations. A possible solution to the confusion is to introduce an integrated management system that addresses the requirements of multiple management systems. In this research, various standards relevant to the establishment of management systems for quality and security are studied. Additionally, literature on integrated management systems is reviewed to determine a possible approach to establishing an IMS for quality and information security in healthcare. It will be shown that the quality management and information security management standards contain commonalities that an integration approach can be based on. A detailed investigation of these commonalities is done in order to present the final proposal of the IMSQS, the Integrated Management System for Quality and Information Security in healthcare.

Abstract:
IS quality is an important concept. Basing their model on information communication theory, DeLone and McLean formulated Information Quality and System Quality as two quintessential elements in their 1992 IS Success Model. In recent years, DeLone and McLean (2003) added Service Quality to form a triumvirate of antecedents to success. Unfortunately, the addition of this construct has unintentionally uncovered an overall lack of coherence in the theoretical modeling of IS Success. Research to date on IS Service Quality has largely ignored the impacts of Information Quality and System Quality when service is delivered through an information system (IS). We believe deeper theoretical insights are needed to reconceptualize Service Quality and rationalize IS quality. After reviewing related literature, we apply marketing exchange theory as a reference framework to redefine service related terms and identify possible scenarios of delivering service through systems. Thereafter, we model IS quality in a new way, based on analysis of alternative scenarios. In validating our proposed model, we discuss our research methods and data analysis that will serve as empirical evidence. In particular, we focus on content validity, construct validity, nomological validity, and unidimensionality of the three IS quality dimensions: System Quality, Information Quality, and Service Quality. By furthering our understanding of IS quality, we hope to initiate coherent theory development; this exercise should then lead to a theory that integrates IS quality elements and helps organizations implement effective strategies for using IS to deliver service. Through the empirical validation of IS quality model, we contribute an empirical assessment of content, construct, and nomological validity of the IS quality constructs, as proposed by DeLone and McLean in their 2003 updated IS success model.

Abstract:
Previous research regarding the effectiveness of signalling via brand name has focused on when and how any brand-building cost incurred, will be rewarded by future profit. In contrast to this seller-incentive perspective, this study examines how the buyer interprets the signal via brand name, the effectiveness of signalling via brand name in terms of buyer value perspective, and how the buyer's reaction toward the signal impacts on the seller's decision to adopt the signalling strategy. Signalling theory and concepts from consumer-based branding research are used to suggest how to evaluate the effectiveness of signalling via brand name in the context of the consumer market, wherein information is asymmetric. Findings from online trading experiments, using the methodology of experimental economics, demonstrate that the function of brand fluctuates according to which market conditions prevail for brand and price, the extent of brand differentiation, and the magnitude of brand-building cost. This suggests an alternative way to measure the value of a brand to the buyer.

Dooley, Paul. "An Empirical Development of Critical Value Factors for System Quality and Information Quality in Business Intelligence Systems Implementations." NSUWorks, 2015. http://nsuworks.nova.edu/gscis_etd/48.

Full text
Abstract:
Business intelligence (BI) systems have been widely recognized as a leading technology for many years. However, despite the high priority and importance placed on BI, there has been a significant lack of BI system implementation (BISI) success. BI systems are not considered to be conventional information systems (IS) and often rely on the integration of a complex information infrastructure. Consequently, the degree of information quality (IQ) and system quality (SQ) have not met expectations for BISI success. This study was designed to determine how an organization may gain benefits in the context of BISI by uncovering the antecedents and critical value factors (CVFs) of SQ and IQ necessary to derive greater BISI success. In phase one, a list of BISI SQ and IQ characteristics were collected through literature discovery and an open-ended questionnaire delivered to a group of BI user experts. The collected items were grouped and categorized based on their similarities. In phase two of the study 257 survey responses were collected from BI users to measure the level of importance, i.e. value, they placed on SQ and IQ characteristics. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) via principal component analysis (PCA) was then used to uncover the CVFs of SQ and IQ that influence BISI success. Two highly reliable CVFs for SQ of BISI with a cumulative variance of nearly 62% and three highly reliable CVFs for IQ of BISI with a cumulative variance of over 75% were subsequently identified. In phase three of the study, an extended conceptual model for IS success was validated to assess the uncovered CVFs of SQ and IQ, as well as their influence on the constructs of perceived SQ of BISI and perceived IQ of BISI. Employing partial least squares (PLS), a subset of structural equation modeling (SEM), the research model was then used to assess the dimensions of perceived SQ of BISI and perceived IQ of BISI as antecedents of the constructs of perceived user systems satisfaction and perceived user information satisfaction from BISI. The crossover effects of perceived user systems and information satisfaction from BISI were also analyzed. The results identified two SQ CVFs of BISI (integration flexibility SQ and reliability SQ) that demonstrated a significant positive impact on perceived SQ for BISI as well as three IQ CVFs of BISI (representation IQ, intrinsic IQ, and accessibility IQ) that had a significant positive impact on perceived IQ of BISI. The constructs of perceived user systems satisfaction and perceived user information satisfaction from BISI had explained variances of R2 = .576 and .589 respectively. Additionally, 12 items of SQ for BISI and 14 items of IQ for BISI were identified as possessing high reliability. This study makes two important contributions to the IS body of knowledge. First, it investigated the universal set of antecedents of SQ and IQ to establish the CVFs of IQ (integration flexibility SQ and reliability SQ) as well as the CVFs of IQ (representation IQ, intrinsic IQ, and accessibility IQ) for BISI success. Second, this study evaluated the crossover effects of system and information satisfaction in BISI success highlighting the importance that BI users place on the need to distinguish between the BI system, the IQ of the output produced, and the influence of IQ on perceived user system satisfaction from BISI. This study benefits stakeholders by focusing on what is important to BISI success and identifies those areas that are most likely to lead to better use of scarce resources while providing the greatest benefits.

Abstract:
Information is an important part of the manual assembly process. Information provides the user with the means to fulfil assembly tasks so that the right quality as well as high productivity are accomplished. This thesis addresses issues connected to information and information use in a modern manual assembly environment, and how these issues affect human operators, quality and productivity. The overall objectives of the research were to gain further knowledge on how attention affects the internal reject rate, to investigate these phenomena in industrial and laboratory environments and finally to propose a suitable evaluation method to be utilised at the design stage of an information system. Studies were performed with the purpose of investigating how the assembly personnel were affected by the information and how it affected quality and productivity. The studies were performed in an assembly plant and in the laboratory. Quantitative data collection included 10 days and nights of production where the information impact on quality was investigated. Connected to this study was a qualitative survey performed among 171 persons from the assembly personnel. The laboratory study took place during three days, approximately eight hours each day. It involved 30 persons, all experienced assembly workers from the reference assembly plant. The focus of this study was how information affected the personnel and thereby the productivity. The findings revealed that information affected the quality rates and productivity and that this can be linked to how the information is presented as well as when the information is presented. It was possible to link these findings to the outcome of a successful information search process, and to conclude that a use of an evaluation method or work process during the product lifecycle could have made it possible to avoid some of the problems connected to the information presentation. This is the basis for a proposed pragmatic evaluation method. The method was tested as a support system during the design of a prototype user interface to be used at the pilot plant. The major contribution of this research is the connection between attention and quality as well as the connection between attention and productivity. Knowledge regarding the importance of presenting the information at the right time must also be regarded as an important and proven contribution.

Abstract:
Increased global competition is fueling a movement towards semi-autonomous or "self-managing" business teams. At the same time, the ability to interconnect computers has provided a technological base for increased computer support of business teams. A flexible system should accommodate a wide variety of group and task characteristics in both face-to-face and geographically-dispersed environments. An architecture for a system named TEAMWORK is developed that provides flexible support for business teams. System functions are organized into six configurable components, audio processing, video processing, text processing, graphic processing, data management, and numeric processing, collectively addressing a wide spectrum of group tasks. TeamWriter is highly configurable text processing tool implemented to represent and partially evaluate one aspect of TEAMWORK's architecture. Pulldown menus and picture buttons allow access functions. Support for a wide variety of team access protocols, real- and non-real-time work styles, multi-user document writing, brainstorming, idea consolidation, visual group dynamics, and more is included. Document changes appended to a centrally located server file maintain a linear revision history. Evaluation session indicated participants especially liked TeamWriter's multiuser document writing capabilities, picture buttons, authorship provisions, and multiple configurations. Suggestions for enhancing brainstorming and idea consolidation capabilities are supported by the underlying set of configurable functions and involve adding new interface configurations. Sessions also demonstrated that field testing will be needed to thoroughly evaluate TeamWriter; participants were unable to explore all of TeamWriter's features in the one and a half hour long evaluation sessions. Research contributions include a comprehensive team collaboration support system architecture, an implemented configurable text processing module suited for further evaluation, implementation methods, and insight into the functional requirements of a team collaboration support system. Future research directions include field testing TeamWriter, implementing and evaluating the numeric processing module, and investigating non-hierarchical, iconic interfaces to TeamWriter section. As audio, video, and high speed LAN technology become available, prototypes investigating design and implementation strategies for audio, video, and graphic modules will be built.

Abstract:
<p>Quality has always been an elusive concept in information system design, even more so when dealing with the online-sphere. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and dissect the concept of quality and present a practical way to apply it to the design process. To do this, a quality-driven design model has been developed, focused around four crucial aspects of overall quality: accessibility, usability, navigation and interactivity. By utilizing simple and practical techniques and measuring their success in achieving quality, this study attempts to prove that quality can be harnessed as a hands-on resource, guaranteed in any design project involving a Web-Based Information System, merely by applying this model.</p><br><p>Kvalitet har alltid varit ett begrepp svårt att fånga och tillämpa, speciellt när området Internet kommer in i bilden.

Abstract:
This revolution has affected not only the social life, but also education, the institutes of higher education, the way of teaching, teacher education and consequently his/her own way of teaching in the classroom, and also his/her relationship with the students. The interest in this research arouse from the point that professors are the professionals that have more involvement with the students. Those are responsible for the universe of information, share information, make the knowledge possible and enable the flux of information and communication with his/her students. With this study, we aim to investigate the use of Sistema Integrado de GestÃo de Atividades AcadÃmica- SIGAA by professor of undergraduation courses at UFC (Universidade Federal do CearÃ), establishing an analysis of its use among the many units/subunits of the university. This is a descriptive explanatory research in which the main data were collected in the internal documents of this institution, followed by open interviews made with some professors that frequently use the SIGAA system. As it could be verified, the professors from the undergraduation courses of this institution has little knowledge of how to manage SIGAA, although the number of posts made by these professors on the last three semesters have been stable. So, an initiative must be implemented by the administration personnel from UFC in order to maximize the use of SIGAA among the undergradation professors.

Abstract:
Employer branding may be communicated in a variety of ways, but today it is an organisation’s website that is commonly used to convey the desired image. A website is commonly recognised as the first port of call for any potential employee. It should, therefore, be the first channel of communication undertaken by an employer branding strategy. This thesis reports on research investigating the use of websites by Thai universities and examines how a well-designed website can be used to efficiently communicate the employer brand as it is related to attracting and retaining talented academic staff in Thai universities.

碩士<br>國防管理學院<br>國防資訊研究所<br>96<br>With the increasing popularity of the Internet, Information System (IS) has become increasingly more profitable. The quality of the IS services should be confirmed prior to deploying it to the web site, resulting in customers that keep coming back. Therefore, this paper presents a framework that integrates Six Sigma Concept to improve the IS service process. The application in the selected company is a multi-tier framework system and there are 1,022 client sites distributed in Taiwan area, one broker server site and three application server sites, which concurrently access and store data from a center database server. When delivering application to the Intranet, users dissatisfaction was at an all time high. We applied the Six Sigma quality cycle: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) to resolve this problem. We plotted user complaints against response time (define), drew up a test plan and executed the load testing (measure), collected testing data from different client sites for analysis (analyze), found where the bottleneck was and fixed it (improve) and monitored the status to satisfy users’ requirement (control).

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣科技大學<br>資訊管理系<br>98<br>With the development and progress of information technology, organizations rely on the use of information technology more closely. The enterprise will get rid of the traditional document management to a positive concept of file management, and they will adopt the related information technology to make the information of enterprise can be more effective creation, distribution and application. Yet, despite a decade of active research and practice, only piece-meal, ad hoc techniques are available for measuring, analyzing, and improving Information Quality (IQ) in organizations. As a result, organizations are unable to develop comprehensive measures of the quality of their information and to benchmark their efforts against that of other organizations. In fact, Information Quality (IQ) is a very important part for each of organization employees. If the information obtained from information system is not correct, it can not help employees, but increase the work of burden. Therefore, one of the crucial subjects related to IQ is to design an appropriate IT-based IQ performance evaluation system for organizations. The main purpose of this study is how to assess information quality in the organization’s information systems effectively. In general, it should consider the external environment of uncertainty and human subjectivity in information quality performance evaluation process. Therefore, this study examined the impact of information quality and establish assessment framework that combines Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process with Fuzzy Interval Linguistic Variables. And this study develops an IT-based IQ performance evaluation system, and applies Group Evaluation to improve evaluation quality that providing enterprises with a more objective assessment of the results to provide the evaluation of information and the quality improvement system. Finally, we adopt a case study to confirm the benefits derived from this system and the contributions of this study are enumerated as follows: (1) This system is helpful to simplify Information Quality evaluation process; (2) This system is useful to deal with unstructured decision problems in performance evaluation; (3) In addition assessment, this system provides discussion platform that can identify issues from organizational operation for the participants; and (4) This system provides company executives with practical references for decision-making.
