Xu, Fang. "Bibliometric assessments of research output quality within the HEFCE framework." Thesis, University of Kent, 2011. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.590068.

Abstract:
In this thesis we propose a feasible bibliometric assessment framework of research output quality derived from the definition of research proposed by Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). Based on this basic framework, we show that research output can be assessed from two elements: significance of new insights and effectiveness of sharing based on the new insights. We investigate this issue from two levels: research publication's quality assessment and academic journal's quality assessment. With regard to measurement of research publications, we confirm citation information is accepted as a measure of effectiveness of sharing regardless of various reasons of citation behavior. On the other hand, we observe there are no sufficient studies on bibliometric indices for significance of new insights, based on information other than citations. In this thesis, we theoretically develop some non-citation based bibliometric measurements via utilizing journal characteristics (e.g. journal acceptance rate (JAR) or journal rejection rate (JRR)). Their strength and weakness are shown in our empirical studies. Furthermore, we believe a more complete assessment for research output quality can be achieved by combining information from the two elements. Several combination approaches such as function combination (i.e. production of two indicators) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach are proposed and testified on real data sets like the Association of "- Business School (ABS) journal ranking and Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Secondly, we utilize a part of the HEFCE framework for journal quality assessment from wider perspectives. To this end two ranking approaches are introduced to serve different stakeholders, and Operational Research/Management Science (OR/MS) journals are employed in the empirical studies. Finally, we report a real project of the 3E (i.e. Efficacy, Efficiency, Effectiveness) theory in an international research institute ranking, jointly carried out by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China, and the Centre for Evaluation of Research Performance (CERP), University of Kent, UK.

Abstract:
The research journal especially in marketing, is now not only the primary communication method, but is also used to evaluate an academic's research contribution. Measuring the quality of research journals has also become more complex as a result of the rapid increase in the number of journals published. In marketing research, scientists have professed the use of sophisticated or more sensitive techniques yet little has been done to improve the measurement of research journals. This thesis investigates the use of alternative measurement techniques to explore this important aspect of the academic environment. Historically two dominant methodologies have been used to measure the quality ofjournals: Peer review and Citation Analysis. However these methods have been criticised and academics have been sceptical of the results, taking the opinion that these methods create, bias in the results. Previous methods have also taken a one-dimensional view of journal quality with little time devoted to uncovering the criteria that governs that quality. The research applied marketing methodologies that combined qualitative and quantitative research techniques to explore the problem. Four critical research questions were examined in this study. What are the important elements of journal research standing? 38 items were found to be important elements ofjoumal research standing. Is journal research standing a multi-dimensional construct? Three underlying dimensions represented the construct journal research standing, these were Reputation, Reviewing Standards and Content Quality. Do academics acknowledge the multiple dimensions of journal research standing? Academics acknowledged the -differences -between dimensions for ten selected marketing journals. What moderating factors affect academic opinions of journal research standing? Academic attitudes towards a joutnal's research stdtiding are moderated by their country of origin, familiarity and research fit. Attitudes towards a journal may also be moderated when academics have a paper rejected from that particular journal.

Abstract:
Documentation in electronic journals is perceived as time consuming and sometimes technically difficult to handle, but also leads to an improved quality of care. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate nurses' perceptions of documentation with a focus on timing, technique and quality of care and whether any differences in these perceptions were dependent on age. Method: Quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study in the survey form, 28 nurses at a university hospital in central Sweden participated in the study. Regression analysis was performed with Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Results: Electronic documentation takes 30 to 60 minutes for most nurses and half of them considered it a reasonable time. Computer skills were good enough for most, but the computers and the electronic patient record system Cosmic were experienced to work less well or badly in half the study group. Two-thirds of the studygroup agreed partly or more to that the quality of care is adversely affected because of the time documentation takes from the patient care. However, about half of the study group agreed that electronic patient records increase health care quality and patient safety. Care plans were used to a great extent. Young nurses rated themselves significantly better than the older ones to handle a computer in their daily work. Conclusion: A variety of problems and perceptions exist in connection with electronic documentation. Continuous development of technology, documentation systems and the use of care plans can contribute to the continuing high quality of care and patient safety.<br>Dokumentation i elektronisk journal uppfattas som tidskrävande och ibland tekniskt svår att hantera, men leder även till en ökad vårdkvalitet. Vårdplaner används i hög utsträckning.

Abstract:
This thesis consists of three essays, linked by innovation, classification and change. In the first paper, I analyze a theoretical problem regarding the reemergence and affirmation of a technological paradigm over the others; in the second article, I propose a framework to aggregate journal rankings and classify academic journals; in the third essay I analyze the performance of Open Access journals, considered an innovative form of publishing, with the aim of identifying the main features of top-rated ones. More specifically, the first essay deals on the technological life cycle which explains how the battles between competing technologies sooner or later end with the dominance of one over the others, or, under certain conditions, with their coexistence. However, the practice points out that, sometimes, beaten technologies can re-emerge in the market. Firms dealing with technology investment decisions need to completely understand the competing technologies dynamics, because the emergence of an alternative and potentially superior technology does not necessarily mean the failure of the incumbent, and different scenario would be traced. Starting from the analysis of the microprocessor market and considering the relationships with complementary companies, I show how the battle for dominance between two rival technologies can be reopened with a new era of ferment. While factors of dominance have been explored by a great amount of literature, little has been said on this question. In particular, I find a non-conventional S-curve trend and I seek to explicate its managerial implication. The second chapter deals with ranking academic journals, an issue that during the years received several contribute from literature of Business and Management [DuBois and Reeb, 2000, Franke et al, 1990, Serenko and Bontis, 2004, Tüselmann et al, 2015, Werner, 2002]. Ranking journals is a longstanding problem and can be addressed quantitatively, qualitatively or using a combination of both approaches. In the last decades, the Impact Factor (i.e., the most known quantitative approach) has been widely questioned, and other indices have thus been developed and become popular. Previous studies have reported strengths and weaknesses of each index, and devised meta-indices to rank journals in a certain field of study. However, the proposed meta-indices exhibit some intrinsic limitations: (i) the indices to be combined are not always chosen according to well-grounded principles; (ii) combination methods are usually unweighted; and (iii) some of the proposed meta-indices are parametric, which requires assuming a specific underlying data distribution. I propose a data-driven methodology that linearly combines an arbitrary number of indices to produce an aggregated ranking, using different learning techniques to estimate the combining weights. I am also able to measure correlations and distances between indices and meta-indices in a vector space, to quantitatively evaluate their differences. The goal of the third essay, is to identify the features of top-rated gold open access (OA) journals by testing seven main variables: languages, countries, years of activity and years in the DOAJ repository, publication fee, the field of study, whether the journal has been launched as OA or converted, and the type of publisher. A sample of 1,910 gold OA journals has been obtained by combining SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) 2012, the DOAJ, and data provided by previous studies [Solomon, 2013]. I have divided the SJR index into quartiles for all journals' subject areas. First, I show descriptive statistics by combining quartiles based on their features. Then, after having converted the quartiles into a dummy variable, I test it as a dependent variable and in a binary logistic regression. This work contributes empirically to better understanding the gold OA efficacy, which may be helpful in improving journals' rankings in the areas where this is still a struggle. Significant results have been found for all variables, except for the types of publishers, and for born or converted journals.

Abstract:
É necessário reorientar o cuidado, o foco não deve ser a doença, é preciso olhar para o indivíduo, que deve ser assistido integralmente e de maneira holística.<br>Patients with hemophilia are predisposed to bleeding, both post-traumatic as spontaneous, occurring mainly in the joints (hemarthrosis) and, when recurrent, they may contribute to the establishment of hemophilic arthropathy, which makes the disease potentially disabling and painful, and considerably affects the quality of life (QoL) of patients with the disease. Evaluate the QoL of these patients gives us the subsidy to provide measures that aim to improve the assistance provided and the patients well-being. In this regard, through an important edition of the infusion journal it is possible to follow the care provided. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of life of hemophilia patients followed by the HEMOMINAS Foundation clinic in Manhuaçu, using specific tools and implement the use of an Infusion Diary as a strategy to increase assistance. This is a descriptive quantitative study. For the evaluation of QoL, it was used the ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health) proposed by the WHO. The tools include: a sociodemographic questionnaire; Haem-A-Qol; Haemo-Qol; HAL, pedHAL; HJHS e FISH. 30 male patients with hemophilia joined the study, which represented 90.9% of the eligible sample. In patients older than 18 years (n = 24), the Haem-A-Qol average score was 53.39. In the HAL, the average was 67.26. In the HJHS, the average score was 37.33. In the FISH, the average score was 25.96. In patients under 18 (n = 06), the Haemo-Qol was answered by patients and their parents. In the questionnaire answered by the patient the average score was 50.36, and in the parents\' score was 55.16. In PedHAL, the average score of the patients was 88.59 and their parents 83.15. The average score in the HJHS was 5.67. Regarding FISH, all patients under 18 years of age (n = 06) reached a maximum score and performed all activities without assistance. The journal of infusion was built and implemented as a tool to enhance the assistance, aiming to stimulate the progressive improvement of the quality of life. The quality of life of patients followed was different, younger ones with better results. The reality of hemophilia management is challenging. It is necessary to reorient care, the focus should not be in the disease, it is necessary to look for the individual, who should be fully assisted in the holistic way.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background: Many innovative ideas have been proposed to manage and improve the quality and cost of clinical care. For many innovations, like Total Quality Management (TQM), the &quotblack box&quot of implementation process is not well understood. Empirical work on the process of innovation implementation in health care is limited. Objective: This study was designed to explore how one organisation, Intermountain Health Care (IHC), an acute and primary health care provider in the USA, innovates in implementing TQM organisation-wide to improve and manage clinical quality. More broadly, the study aims to identify factors that contribute to innovation implementation in health care for clinical quality improvement, and to generate a model of innovation implementation in health care for clinical quality improvement. Method: This thesis takes a case study approach using multiple research methods. The main methods used comprise interviews with key personnel, assessment of organisational documents and a survey of clinicians' and managers' attitudes and beliefs. Findings: The main finding of the research is that innovation implementation at IHC was a journey, not a destination. Embedded in the journey were five periods and many actions and interactions, grouped into eleven elements. The five periods were: exposing to an innovative idea, embracing the idea, extending knowledge and experience on the idea, emerging of strategies to implement the idea organisation-wide, and enacting and adapting the strategies. The eleven elements were: gestation, shocks, plan, proliferation, fluid participation, setbacks, criteria shift, top executive involvement, relationships and infrastructure building, and adoption. To implement TQM organization-wide, integrated structures and systems were being instituted. The study found that resistance to change came from not only some physicians but also hospital administrators. The study also found that supportive environments played a critical role in the journey. While the TQM implementation at IHC resulted in some cost savings and some behavioural changes including clinical practice change, cultural change at the level of values and beliefs had yet to occur. Conclusion: A process-oriented integrative model of clinical service management is proposed. The elements of an innovation, the temporal change processes, lead to formation and changes of the ongoing organisational processes, which in turn evaluate and improve the important clinical processes. These processes integrate TQM with other quality improvement approaches; also ensure that quality is part of the dialogue between key stakeholders who are responsible for managing and improving clinical quality and costs. These processes also are capable of dealing with dilemmas faced in health care and the constantly created managerial ideas and clinical knowledge. Key Words: Innovation, Clinical Outcomes, Knowledge, Quality and Costs, TQM Management

Varhaiskasvatuslain uudistus vaikuttaa erityisesti varhaiskasvatuksen opettajien vastuuseen, osaamistarpeisiin ja työhyvinvointiin. Uudistuksen aikaan vallinneen laatukäsityksen hahmottamiseksi, tarkastellaan tutkielmassa laadun määritelmää viime aikaisessa kansainvälisessä tutkimuksessa erityisesti opettajan osaamisen merkityksen näkökulmasta. Tutkielma on kirjoitettu artikkelimuotoon. Tutkimukseen sovellettiin systemaattisen kirjallisuuskatsauksen menetelmää ja kuvattiin dokumentoidun prosessin vaiheet. Tuloksissa esiteltiin laadun määritelmät neljään näkökulmaan jaettuna, joista jokaisessa opettajalla on keskeinen rooli: 1. Opetuksen järjestämisen näkökulma: minkälainen opetusohjelma ja opetuksen järjestäjä on? 2. Oppimistulosten näkökulma: minkälaisia taitoja lapset oppivat? 3. Lasten elämänlaadun näkökulma: miten lapset kokevat varhaiskasvatuksen? 4. Merkityksen antamisen näkökulma: millaisia merkityksiä lapset saavat varhaiskasvatuksen tilanteissa? Tulokset osoittivat, että opettajien pedagoginen osaaminen vaikuttaa varhaiskasvatuksen laatuun laatu-käsitteen näkökulmasta riippumatta.

Abstract:
The peer-review process is a cornerstone of biomedical research publication. However, studies have shown that peer-reviewers' evaluations are often discordant, that they fail to detect fraud, errors and that their evaluation is influenced by the results. The objective of this thesis work was to explore and rethink the process of peer-review editorial. As a first step, we identified the tasks expected of peer-reviewers when evaluating a randomized controlled trial report and compared the importance of these tasks from the points of view of peer-reviewers and editors. Our study showed that the most important tasks for peer reviewers were not congruent with the tasks most often requested by journal editors in theirs guidelines to reviewers. In a second step, we conducted a systematic review and a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials evaluating an intervention aimed at improving the quality of peer-review in biomedical journals. We identified 22 randomized controlled trials that evaluated 5 interventions. These trials included a small number of participants, were mostly monocentric and had biases that limited the interpretation of their results. Finally, we have developed and evaluated a tool to help achieve the peer-review of randomized trials associated with online training. This tool is specifically aimed at evaluating the quality of the reporting that means the compliance with the recommendations of the CONSORT statement (i.e., international recommendations required by publishers to report randomized trials in a complete and transparent manner). We compared the performance of young trained peer-reviewers using the tool with the performance of reviewers evaluating the manuscript as part of the usual peer-review process. We included 120 randomized controlled trials. Our results showed that the tool improved the number of items correctly classified per manuscript by young peer-reviewers. This finding suggests that the use of a CONSORT checklist focusing on specific items could improve the quality of the peer-review process, and thus the quality of the published manuscript. At the end of this work, we propose to rethink the peer-review process that could be carried out in 2 stages with junior peer-reviewers assessing compliance with the recommendations of the CONSORT statement and experienced reviewers evaluating the methodology and relevance of the question

Em países da América do Norte, Europa e Ásia o foco atual são os indicadores bibliométricos.<br>To review the scientific literature with a view to analyzing the concept and criteria of quality for scientific journals, which major works, what types of measurement or quantification of quality are presented, as well as bibliometric study of literature retrieved. Method: The study was kind of document using a partial approach to integrative review. Data collection was performed in the Web of Science, SciELO, Scopus, VHL Journal Portal CAPES, E-Lis, LISA, ISTA and BRAPSI bases covering the period 2003-2013. Coverage on the subject composed a corpus of 69 original research articles. Results: The concept of quality is somewhat explained by the researchers. The quality criteria are based on compliance with formal aspects in selecting the best content and the efficient management of processes. Several bibliometric indicators are being researched, but many focused on citation indexes; the recognition that the scientific community had already been incorporated into the database. Spain is the country that leads the research on the topic, especially with work carried out by the University of Valencia and the Higher Council for Scientific Research. Conclusion: The professionalization of management journals\' strong tendency to gain and maintain the quality from the perspectives of readers, authors, editors and reviewers. The literature reflects that most Brazilian magazines still does not meet the formal aspects. In Spain, the focus is the question of the scientific content and bibliometric indicators. Countries in North America, Europe and Asia are the current focus on bibliometric indicators.

Abstract:
<b>BACKGROUND:</b> Evidence-based medicine has had a profound impact on healthcare. In the field of Plastic surgery, powerful examples include; less radical skin cancer excision margins and skin-sparing or even nipple-sparing mastectomies and microsurgical reconstruction. Sustained progression of the field, relies on the development of a high-quality evidence base, with strong use of peer-reviewed research protocols, which are publicly registered and completed studies transparently reported. The extent of compliance with these principles is currently unknown and the author hypothesised that it would be low. The author further hypothesised that registration could be improved by the development of a new global research registry and reporting quality can be improved by the mandatory implementation of reporting guidelines in a journal. <b>METHODS:</b> This thesis incorporated 11 studies. The first two studies used a literature review to determine; the levels of evidence, rates of study registration and protocol publication in the recent Plastic Surgery literature. Thirdly, the design, build and launch of a new global research registry to boost compliance with registration and to determine barriers to it using a survey amongst users. This would be followed by systematic reviews to determine compliance with the STROBE and PRISMA guidelines respectively. An analysis of each guide for authors (GFA) of the surgical journals listed in the Thomson Reuters journal citation report for surgery to determine support for reporting guidelines. The impact of the mandatory implementation of reporting guidelines in a surgical journal would be assessed using a before and after design. Finally, to develop a reporting guideline for surgical case reports (SCARE) and surgical case series (PROCESS) using a DELPHI consensus exercise amongst an expert panel. <b>RESULTS:</b> Protocols were registered in 4% of 595 recent research studies and 0.5% were published. There was a mean compliance of 12/22 for the STROBE guideline (n=94) and 16/27 for the PRISMA guideline (n=79). The Research Registry® was launched in February 2015. Analysis of the first 500 previously unregistered studies, showed they came from 57 countries and included 1.77 million patients. Key barriers to registration were a lack of awareness of the need to register and lack of time (n=149). In addition, 45% registered their study at the time of journal submission. The GFA analysis showed 62% didn’t mention reporting guidelines at all (n=193). Subsequent mandatory implementation in a single surgical journal, increased compliance with STROBE by 12% (n=152), with CONSORT by 40% (n=13) and with PRISMA by 58% (n=28). The SCARE and PROCESS reporting guidelines were developed and published in late 2016. According to Google Scholar, they have accumulated over 200 citations at the time of writing. <b>CONCLUSION:</b> Study registration, protocol use and reporting quality are poor in plastic surgery. Potential solutions to these long-standing problems have been developed and explored within this thesis. These include the development and use of the Research Registry® and the mandatory implementation of reporting guidelines, with both measures front-loaded within a gatekeeper framework for journals. It is now for Plastic Surgeons and the wider surgical community to pick up the gauntlet and drive forward high-quality research, evidence-based surgical practice and better outcomes for their patients and society at large.

Abstract:
The manufacturing industry is shifting, entering a new era with smart and connected devices. The fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) is promising increased growth and productivity by the Smart Factory and within the enabling technologies is Augmented Reality (AR). This is a technology that can be used to augment the reality with digital information. At the same time as the technology is introduced, errors in manufacturing are a problem which are affecting the productivity and the quality. The errors can be caused by humans and companies strive to eliminate the errors caused by humans. This research aims to find the main causes of human errors in assembly lines and thereafter explores whether AR is an appropriate tool to be used in order to address those issues. Based on a literature review that identified and characterized a preliminary set of root causes for human errors in assembly lines, these causes were empirically studied in an exercise that covered an in-depth case study at a multinational automotive company. Data in form of interviews and deviation reports have been used to identify the causing factors and the result showed that the main causes of human errors are the amount of thinking, deciding and searching for information which affected the cognitive load of the operator and in result their performance. Several interviews with experts in AR allowed to verify if this technology would be feasible to solve or mitigate the found causes. Besides that, in repetitive manual assembly operations, AR is better used showing the process in order to train new operators, at the same time as for experienced operators AR show information only when an error occurs and when there is a need of taking an active choice is more appropriate. Nevertheless, while theoretically able to managing human error when fully developed, the desired application makes the augmentation of visual objects redundant and increasingly complex for solving the identified causes of errors which questions the appropriateness of using AR systems. However, the empirical findings showed that for managing human errors, the main bottleneck of an AR system is the software and AI.<br>Den tillverkande industrin skiftar och går in i en ny era där smart och uppkopplad teknologi introduceras i de operativa delarna av tillverkningen.

Abstract:
Whilst a significant body of research exists related to quality assurance in UK higher education (HE), few questions appear to have been raised about the commonplace practice of validation or approval of degree courses. Overall, current research tends to focus on complications arising from the procedural effects of the process, rather than exploring ways that staff dealt with the demands of these systems. This study examined staff experiences of course approval within Allied Health Profession degree courses in a UK university. The research focused on how governance structures surrounding the regulation of health professionals and universities shaped the practice(s) of approval, alongside ways in which this experience affected staff. Influenced by the work of theorists in critical and social theory traditions, this indepth study adopted narrative inquiry. Purposive sampling was used to locate twelve participants and included academics, manager-academics, staff who worked in professional bodies and within teams supporting quality in HE. In order to examine the issues related to the approval process, data was collected through interview conversations, participants’ drawings and prose, along with documentary analysis. This research revealed the narrative of approval as complex and akin to a journey involving a series of challenges, contradictions and multiplicity of stakeholders. Interpretation of the data illustrated that those participating were both constituted by, and contributed to the nature of approval. In other words, rather than being docile recipients’ of policy, it was apparent that staff appeared to take various approaches to thinking, acting and relating. A sense of adopting a position (termed here as positional identities) emerged and influenced not only participants’ journey through the approval process, but also that of others, as well as the shape and nature of courses being approved. Four positional identities were identified, namely: the Governance Trustee, Professional Guardian, Enabling Strategist and Boundary Broker. Each of these positions was subsequently explored through an exploratory conceptual map of positional identity. The emergent map stimulated the re-assessment of current conditions. Consequently, future possibilities in which approval scenarios may evolve are presented. Considering how policy changes within HE have promoted increasingly performative practices, and the ways in which participants in approval events have presented them ‘selves’, it is likely that the positional identities adopted by staff here may have resonance for academics across the sector, and that this study will inform wider debates about policy and validation of courses within HE in general.

Abstract:
The present work broadly discusses the problem of quality assurance in the field of scholarly publishing. It highlights the specific characteristics resulting from electronic publishing, business models based on Open Access, and particularly Open Access Journals. Out of the different approaches for quality assessment and its fundamental purpose – filtering relevant and audited information – mainly peer review processes are examined in detail. In this context weak points and basic criticisms on peer review are enumerated and subsequently discussed with respect to known studies in this field. As a major part the present work contains a classification of peer review processes regarding different properties and its potential values. Although it has been subject to fundamental criticism for decades peer review is still widely considered to be the method of choice for pre-publication quality assurance in scholarly publishing. Meanwhile, open access journals which increasingly appear within the scholarly publication market regularly raise suspicion to follow lower quality standards and to publish articles which have passed no or less rigorous editorial examination. Against this background the present work presents a comprehensive survey which aims at analyzing peer review processes of scholarly open access journals. Using the data provided by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) more than 3.000 editors have been asked to participate. With an overall return rate of about 40 % the resulting findings can be considered as highly representative. They clearly show that most open access journals actually apply peer review processes. Moreover, the analysis indicates that there exists a broad variety of different procedures and characteristics constituting peer review, includ-ing reciprocal anonymity between authors and reviewers, information flow, the reviewer selection process, and formal settlements as for conflicts of interest. Thereby, the nature of the applied peer review process strongly depends on the scholarly discipline of the respective journal and its publisher. In addition, correlations between external quality indicators and peer review properties could be observed.

Abstract:
This commentary aims to convey my publications on community based care and Quality of Life (QOL), in Learning Difficulties (LD), and Dementia care. My rationale through this journey aims to critique my earlier observation, assessments, and interview findings and theory, in research care practices and policy. I further argue for reconceptualising care and QOL research methodology, underpinned by phenomenological theory and research focussing on service user lived experience and open dialogue between care disciplines. My contributions to knowledge in LD focuses on service user life experiences and varying QOL in private sector care homes, and observation of differences in quality of interaction in day-centre settings. Life experiences in LD residential care significantly changes over time in relationships; opportunities and freedom of choice, comparing poorly with the general population. The LD residential care research and LD day-centre observation is critiqued drawing on Social Role Valorisation (SRV) theory, and objective and subjective QOL. My Dementia research compares traditional, enhanced traditional and social models of care by setting. The social model provides more choice, control, recreation, privacy and social interaction, than traditional and enhanced-traditional models. Further work shows significant gender differences in interactions with staff in Dementia care. A lack of implementation of policy concerning a normal community based life in LD, is noted in residential and day-centre care. The social model setting's policies and practice in Dementia care, is noted as more 'enlightened' and showing more positive interaction. Gender disparity findings in care interactions in Dementia is salient to practice and policy intervention, and my subsequent training program relates directly to practice by addressing quality of interaction training. My epistemic 'shift' escapes the 'natural sciences' method by proposing discursive and phenomenological enquiry into lived experiences of service users, in a practice and policy context of trans-disciplinary discourse promoting relational and compassionate care.

Abstract:
<p> Higher education institution performance has been brought to the forefront of the public policy arena by the spread of performance funding, the articulation of the Completion Agenda, and Congressional hearings on higher education. Debate over which entities should be responsible for monitoring the performance of higher education institutions as well as which measures are to be used has intensified. Currently, this oversight falls to institutional accrediting agencies that require institutions to meet established criteria, including the development of a culture of evidence and the pursuit of institutional effectiveness. To achieve and maintain accreditation, institutions must provide evidence demonstrating their adoption of a continuous improvement process. </p><p> Higher education institutions have a variety of continuous improvement frameworks from which to choose to improve quality and effectiveness in their processes and ultimately, their outcomes. There is; however, little research to identify how a framework might relate to organizational effectiveness performance. Accreditation provides a unique framework to higher education. The Higher Learning Commission-North Central Association (HLC), a regional accrediting agency, has created the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), an integrated approach to developing a culture of continuous improvement and supplying institutional accountability information. </p><p> This study investigated the relationship between higher education institutions&rsquo; continuous improvement planning processes and institutional performance measures of graduation, transfer out and first year retention rates for AQIP participating institutions, using a correlational explanatory research design and publicly available secondary data sets. The target population for this study consisted of US higher education institutions utilizing continuous improvement frameworks or similar professional standards. The sample selected was a purposeful convenience sample consisting of all 186 institutions currently participating in the AQIP accreditation process in the Higher Learning Commission region. The AQIP Systems Appraisal Reports were analyzed and the continuous improvement planning evaluations aggregated to develop independent variables. </p><p> The dependent variables of graduation, transfer out and first year retention were selected to represent organizational effectiveness measures. Graduation, transfer out and retention rate data are collected annually as part of the IPEDS survey. Findings showed that institutional characteristics such as sector, size and location had a greater impact on organizational effectiveness measures than continuous improvement practices. In addition, this study explored a unique approach to inter-rater reliability with respect to team generated documents.</p>

Abstract:
The Swedish public bus transport sector is showing a negative development as costs are escalating and the number of passengers is stagnating. Based on theories in Public-Private Partnerships and inter-organizational cooperation, this paper presents an exploratory study how the cooperation between public and private actors affects the quality of public bus transport. Evidence shows that the negative development in the sector is mainly due to the nature of the contracts between public and private actors. Despite the contracts, two of four cases have increased their quality and public welfare through cooperation between the actors. The results highlight the importance of customizing the cooperation based on each actors´ driving force in the contract. Additionally are detailed goal setting and a clear inter-organizational structure strongly correlating with increased quality, finally is trust identified as a corner stone for the construction of a successful cooperation.

Abstract:
Today more than ever, ageing represents not only a demographic challenge, but also a psycho-social one. In fact, conscious of the quantitative substance of phenomenon it is more than important how to add quality to a much longer present life than in the past. Hence, issue should be coped with in terms of subjective well-being and life environment as well. We conducted two researches. In the first one, we aimed at deepening ageing from the elderly people s point of view; firstly, we conducted a study involving 220 elderly people who lived in Sicily (Italy); secondly, we replicated the same study in a different context, involving 120 elderly people who lived in Extremadura (Spain). In the second research, we were interested in exploring ageing and elderly from younger people s point of view. Also in this case, primarily we conducted a study involving university students who lived in Sicily and then, the same study was replicated involving university students who lived in Extremadura. Taken together, researches showed that a general social context that welcomes seniors may result in individuals who live their age better and this would be true also for the elderly. In other words, a favorable life environment, both in objective and subjective and inter-subjective terms may result in elderly individuals having a better self-perception.

However, this high increases requires a more qualified production, since it s essential that publications are relevant and original. In the psychological field, the assessment scientific journals of the CAPES/ANPEPP Commission had a strong effect on the scientific community and raised questions about the chosen evaluation method. Considering this impact, the aim of this research is a meta-analysis on the assessment of Psychological journals by CAPES to update the Qualis database. For this research, Psychology scientific editors (38 questionnaires were applied by e-mail) were consulted, also 5 librarians who work with scientific journals assessment (semi-structured interviews) and 8 members who acted as referees in the CAPES/ANPEPP Commission (open questions were sent by e-mail). The results are shown through 3 analysis: general evaluation of the Qualis process (including the Assessment Committee constitution), evaluation criteria used in the process and the effect of the evaluation on the scientific community (changes on the editing scene included). Some important points emerged: disagreement among different actors about the suitability of this evaluation model; the recognition of the improvement of scientific journals, mainly toward normalization and diffusion; the verification that the model does not point the quality of the journal, i.e., the content of the scientific articles published in the journal; the disagreement with the criteria used, seemed necessary and useful but needed to be discussed and cleared between the scientific community.

Abstract:
The digital world is constantly growing. This contributes to increasing expectations and demands in the technical aspect. Digitization is powerful, but it further contributes to a number of challenges, such as the coordination of physical and digital stores. During the corona pandemic, the digital transformation has accelerated for companies to adapt to customers. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to understand how swedish retailers can manage technological touchpoints in customer journeys in the furniture sector. Further the purpose is to investigate how retailers can use technological touchpoints to change the quality and customer engagement in the customer journey.  To be able to answer the empirical findings, six semi-structured interviews were obtained through a multiple case study. The theory from previous research and the empirical results were then discussed in the analysis. The conclusion of the thesis resulted in the management of digital touchpoints is different depending on whether it concerns companies using physical stores or e-commerce. This thesis has identified that retailers in the furniture sector manage technological touchpoints to create a seamless customer experience, increase customer satisfaction, more easily engage customers and to be able to integrate with customers in several ways. Digital touchpoints have made it easier for companies to measure results and to be able to improve the customer journey. One identification was that customer engagement has increased in relation to the increased digitalization, but also that the researched companies believe that digitization is vital for increasing customer engagement. Due to the technology, opportunities are created to be able to develop the quality of the customer journey. Further, by being able to measure the customer journey, the companies gain an insight into what should be constantly improved.

Abstract:
The study was based on scientific journals, domestic and foreign, sorted by the 2012 Qualis Program for Biodiversity pertaining to the areas of botany, oceanography, zoology and ecology. A two steps method for the evaluation of journals was defined. The first included the analysis of the journals from the bibliometric indicators, carried out based on the citation percentage by quartile in a two year window of citations measuring the variation in impact factors over the years. The second aims to perform the analysis of the formal aspects of the journals, in particular: time of existence or duration, punctuality, frequency, number of articles published per year, percentage of research articles, dates of receipt and approval, review by peers and number of languages it is published in. Among the results of the study, it was found that the areas BOZE significant differences in the dynamics of scientific citations, highlighting the areas of ecology (greater obsolescence of literature) and zoology (lower obsolescence of literature) who demonstrated extreme performances.

Abstract:
The objective is analyze the scientific communication of the Tourism area research to provide subsidies for scientific research in the evaluation of production at the national level based on its characteristics. It starts questioning about the adequacy of the evaluation criteria of the tourism area, comparing it with Administration and the Accounting Sciences the other subareas that are classified together, to identify if they correspond at the same way to the three subareas. This is a descriptive exploratory research with a quantitative data approach that was carried out through analyzes of the area documents from the major areas of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities, through the periodicals classified in the area of Administration, Accounting and Tourism and analysis of Lattes data of the researchers from the postgraduate programs of the Tourism area. It is structured in six chapters, the first makes and introduction and the last present some conclusions. Chapter 2 begins by drawing a panorama of the evolution of science and scientific knowledge and then dealing with scientific communication and evaluation. To do so, the tools of Information Science were used. The third chapter presents some of the main studies on tourism and its approaches, as well as some considerations about scientific communication in the area and evaluation. The methodological procedures were presented on chapter 4 and the data analyzes were done in chapter 5. The results point out to the Administration, Accounting Sciences and Tourism are areas at different stages of development and the criteria used are better for Administration, a larger area. It also notes that tourism researchers have a large part of their publications in events, followed by articles in national journals, most of them classified as B3. It draws attention to the fact that these characteristics could lead to underestimation of their production. It concludes the Capes Qualis evaluation model needs to be adapted, based on other types of criteria, more qualitative rather than quantitative, that valorize the human and social aspects of tourism.

Abstract:
The context of the British press is typical of the salience of the relation between media and society. Faced with the erosion of its readership and developments in the ultra-competitive media sector, the British daily « quality » press has launched changes in the 2000s that reflect a series of contexts that interact on performance. From 2003, The Times and The Independent’s changes in format tend to reflect a willingness to adapt the journal to changing lifestyles and particularly to reading habits. Based on a theoretical model of journalistic changes over a long time as well as trends in British society since 1945, our thesis analyzes The Times and The Independent’s changes in an era of « communication journalism ». By focusing on the journalistic treatment of politics in the two daily newspapers here analyzed, this thesis aims! to explore the process of the reappropriation of the journalistic standards of the « tabloids » by the « quality » daily newspapers

Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to explore how consumers of slow fashion experience value of apparel in relation to price, quality, appearance and style, awareness, and trust.Research questions: How do the extrinsic cues in relation to slow fashion influence the value journey of slow fashion consumers? What is the experienced value journey of slow fashion consumers from pre-purchase to post-purchase of apparel?Methodology: data was collected through semi-structured interviewing with eight participantsFindings: The research identified that slow fashion consumers undergo a value journey based on five components: their knowledge, altruistic concerns, personal investment, expectations, and their emotional connection. Their knowledge is formed by how much the slow fashion consumers know about the production process of the apparel, the material quality of the apparel, and themselves in terms of their personal preferences. Their altruistic concerns involve influences how they consume and use clothes based on their ethics. Their personal investment is determined by how much time, effort, and resources they are willing to spend on pieces of apparel. The slow fashion consumer then set an expectation on how well the piece of apparel satisfies these three components through its usage in a post-purchase context. If the piece of apparel exceeds their expectations, they form an emotional connection. This emotional connection again determines their next line of consumption of apparel in a pre-purchase context. These five components determine therefore the process of slow fashion consumers’ perceived value pre-purchase to the perceived value-in-use post-purchase.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The evaluation of graduation, by Capes, from 1970s, when it began a process that has been developed since then, resulting in the Qualis, whose goal is to assess thousands of postgraduate programs in Brazil. Specifically, there are trained committees, whose objective is to define and apply the criteria to ensure the scientific merit of the programs in terms of their proposal, its faculty, titration of new teachers and doctors, and the publication of research findings in recognized publishing vehicles. As a reflection of what is happening worldwide, the scientific journal stands in relation to other types of document, because of a historical process which culminated in the databases as the main source of information for evaluation of scientific production. This research aims to contribute to the process of evaluation of national scientific production, through the analysis of information sources that make up the criteria for classification of the scientific journals used in the areas of applied social sciences. The specific objectives were: 1) to identify the sources of information that can be classified effectively as a database, according to specific criteria that allow to test the scientific and/or editorial quality, 2) to identify which information sources have specific selection criteria that allow to test the scientific and/or publishing quality and if they are provided on their websites, and 3) to evaluate the use that has been made of these sources in different areas of assessment. Results showed that, from the 17 sources of information analyzed, only 7 were recognized as databases and were declaring to use criteria for selecting the scientific journals. All sources of information that were not mentioned a selection criteria were used for the area of Applied Social Sciences I in the triennium 2007-2009, consisting of thematic sources of Information Science and Communication, these sources are no longer available among the criteria in the area of the document that updates the criteria of the area, published in 2012. Among all evaluation areas that comprise the large area of applied social sciences, the use of bases with international coverage is the most important (Web of Science and Scopus) and regional (SciELO, LATINDEX and REDALYC) in most areas. Another important aspect was the use of the Impact Factor for the scientific journals classification, the areas of Economics and Business Administration, Accounting and Tourism, since the three-year period from 2004-2006. Finally, it was observed that, from the professional\'s point of view, there is a better perception regarding questions about the criteria that analyzes the expected quality of a scientific journal. On the other hand, who is linked to the editorial and area committees, cannot necessarily perceive the details that are critical to the effectiveness of scientific communication: the existence of periodic selection criteria, the presence of an active editorial board, the existence of a geographic diversity of the authors, ad hoc reviewers and editorial board members and information about the list of titles of the scientific journals indexed by the source of information.

Abstract:
The existing link between PT travelers’ satisfaction, ridership and loyalty prove the relevance of improving overall trip satisfaction. The thesis present an array of approaches and methodologies aiming at increasing overall satisfaction with PT door-to-door trips while covering important issues that previous research has failed to address. These knowledge gaps include: disregarding the different needs and priorities of different type of travelers; overlooking the evolution over time and across geographical areas that overall satisfaction and satisfaction with specific service attributes may experience; and, neglecting the importance of access and egress legs. Based on the Swedish customer satisfaction barometer (2001-2013), an investigation of the determinants of PT satisfaction and their evolution over time (I) shows that: a) the deterioration of overall satisfaction with PT in Sweden in recent years is driven by a decrease in satisfaction with customer interface and length of trip time; b) these two service aspects as well as operation are found as key determinants of overall satisfaction which users consistently rate among the least satisfactory. The diversity of needs and priorities of SKT travelers was reduced into 5 distinctive multi-modal travelers’ groups (II). These travelers’ groups exhibited geographical disparities and an in between-groups overall similarity in the importance attached to the service attributes. Nevertheless, some noticeable differences could be observed. The service attributes’ importance levels reveal overall changes in appreciations and consumption goals over time. A number of both normative and heuristic satisfaction aggregation rules are tested on METPEX dataset for different types of trip configurations (III).

Abstract:
This thesis is an in-depth exploration of a multi-methodological design science approach to develop a purposeful eHealth-as-a-Service (eHaaS) design artifact, with potential to improve information quality in primary care settings. This was achieved by first, deriving abstract meta-requirements from an ethnographic examination of care pathways to establish the technical goals of the solution. Then, defining the functions, organization, and structure of an eHaaS conceptual model as an example of how service-based architectures might deliver high quality information services. Finally, establishing the validity of the conceptual model with the development of a novel evaluation strategy to explain the predicted change produced by eHaaS architecture. Given that, eHaas provides the foundation for developing a link between the patient and their information that is available to multiple healthcare professionals when needed.

Abstract:
A panel of assessors analyze a sample of the product to identify and name a set of attributes and estimate their intensity. Objective The aim of the study was to research how attributes are identified, described and presented in the scientific use of DSA. Method By using descriptive statistics, 74 articles published in scientific journals between 1974 and 2019 were analyzed quantitatively. Data collection was conducted using 17 variables. Correlations between variables and differences between groups were analyzed using statistical tests. Results Of the articles 96 % were published in non-sensory-specific journals. Generic descriptive analysis (GDA) was used in two thirds of the articles. In more than half of the articles the number of assessors, or the time spent on assessor training, differed from what is recommended. An avarage of 1.4 descriptive words were used to name each attribute. In half of the articles no definitions of the attributes were given. In two thirds of the articles no reference products were presented to illustrate the attributes or different points of the scale. In three quarters of the articles the attributes were presentet in the section of method description, and not the results. The avarage share of nouns was 68.2 % and 31 % adjectives. A moderate negative correlation between the share of nouns and the time spent on panel training was significant. Conclusion Sometimes DSA is used without panel recommendations being followed. There are scientific articles where the sensory attributes are presented vaguely enough to question the usability of the results. To interperet naming of the sensory attributes as a qualitative results could motivate a more defined presentation, which would benefit the quantitative result (intensity assesment) by explaining what is meassured.

Methods: A cross sectional study carried out by evaluating all the texts on women¿s health published in three weekly current affairs magazines (Veja, Época and Istoé) over a period of one year. Content was expressed as variables describing topics of women¿s health, e.g. reproductive health, prevention, risks and healthcare, beauty and esthetics, sexuality, mental health, menopause and general health; the format of the report, e.g. a brief note, headline, article or interview; whether it was illustrated; the source of information, e.g. whether scientific, commercial, governmental or other; and the geographical origin of the information. To evaluate the scientific quality of the texts, 80 units were independently analyzed by two physicians and two journalists using the Index of Scientific Quality (ISQ), adapted for use in Portuguese and submitted to a pilot test and retest. Following analysis of the texts, internal consistency was measured using Crombach¿s alpha, and inter- and intra-rater agreement using the Kappa index for each one of the eight items in the questionnaire. Items received from 1 to 5 points and measured applicability, opinion versus fact, validity, scope, precision, coherence and consequence, as well as providing an overall median that summarized the other items and represented an evaluation of quality. Results: A total of 146 texts on the subject of women¿s health were found, comprising 14.8% of the total space devoted to health in general. The most commonly reported subject was reproductive health (26.7%) in the format of a brief note (45.2%). The least common subject was menopause, comprising only 4.8% of the total space. Most of the reports were illustrated (87.7%), originated from scientific sources (41.1%) and were of international origin (41.1%). The scientific quality of the texts received a median score that ranged from 2 to 4 in seven items of the questionnaire, while the overall median score was 3. Internal consistency of the items in the questionnaire ranged from 0.81 to 0.96. Inter-rater agreement varied between -0.03 and 0.48, while intra-rater agreement ranged from 0.27 to 0.34 (95%CI). Conclusion: Little space is allocated to women¿s health in weekly news magazines and reports appear to be related predominantly to subjects concerning reproduction. The items comprising the questionnaire provide an adequate measurement of scientific quality; however, low inter- and intra-rater agreement indicates a need for further studies to evaluate the Brazilian version of the ISQ. The scientific quality of the texts was evaluated as moderate. Abstract:
The current thesis investigates the Impact Factor (IF) in scientific journals and its consequences for scientometric considerations. The results are: The Impact Factor is a value for Journals listed in the Science Citation Index, which show the average degree of acquaintance in the scientific community. It is much less a sign of quality than often believed. The IF is highly determined by the degree of the extent of the SCI. The Impact Factor is also, to a considerable degree determined by the availability of the cited sources. Methodological the IF depends strongly on the topical adjustment of the SCI. A linear correlation, found by R. Rousseau and G.V. Hooydonk (1996) between the Impact Factor and the number of papers per journal, is only valid in the analysed range of 0.5 - 3 examined by these authors. At higher IF values it comes to a flattening, and for values greater 7 even to a reversal of the curve. There is an annual increase of the Impact Factor in the SCI, in which the annual rate is rising as higher the IF is. More exact analyses have shown that the increase had an upper of 0.42, at the investigated time. Impact factors of Journals and prices for their relations depend only on a weak statistic from each other. Whether Journal is acquired, depends by far more strongly on the citations, which meets these magazines on itself. The IF rises with the number of copies of magazines if these already exhibit a higher IF. A clear separation between a cause and effect cannot be recognized here. It would be both possible that Journals with high IF experience increased demand, so that the copy number thereby rises and that the IF rises, because the Journal enjoys a high interest. Scientific authors are under pressure to publish in journals with Ifs as high as possible. The higher this general pressure is the smaller is the probability for an author to publish in such journals repeatedly. Exceptions are the publishers or editors of these Journals.

Abstract:
publisher version<br>In reflecting on the contributions to Volume 33, it is evident that a variety of theories about learning and social change inform the scholars in environmental education, ranging from behaviourist, to social behavioural, constructivist and social constructivist learning theories, social and critical realism, and more. What unites these papers is a shared concern about learning in relation to the future well-being of the planet and its people. New scholars entering the field of environmental and sustainability education have the task of mastering not only the social– ecological subject matter of the field, but also their chosen learning theories. In this regard, drawing on the back copies of the SAJEE can be of great value. Much research and writing has already been done on curriculum, education and learning inside and outside of formal institutions, yet many more questions remain. The field is best advanced by noting and building on, challenging and advancing past studies and existing scholarship. The fact that all 33 Volumes of the SAJEE are available online, just a ‘few clicks away’ from any student or supervisor with Internet access, is therefore an enormous boon. We encourage readers and future authors to draw on the work in this and other environmental education journals as they conceptualise, design and reflect on their own studies.
