A combination of antiretroviral therapies can diminish the HIV viral load to near undetectable levels, but fails to preserve neurocognitive integrity. Jets in cross flow are one of the fundamental issues for mixing studies. As a first step in this paper, a generic geometry of a jet in cross flow was simulated to validate the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tool. Instead of resolving the whole injection system, the effective cross-sectional area of the injection hole was modeled as an inlet surface directly. Longitudinally diode laser-pumped solid-state lasers have been demonstrated to achieve high efficiency with a F2-:LiF passive Q-switch [1]. As power scaling possibilities of end-pumped configurations are limited by the thermally induced stress fracture of the laser material, transversal pumping schemes are the system of choice to achieve high average powers. The use of composite laser rods consisting of a hexagonal Nd:YAG core surrounded by an undoped YAG is expected to improve the relatively poor beam quality typical for side pumped solid-state lasers.
