Abstract:
This thesis presents several decentralized, learning-based algorithms for on-line routing of bandwidth guaranteed paths. The presented routing algorithms do not need any a-priori knowledge of traffic demand; they use only their locally observed events and update their routing policy using learning schemes. The employed learning algorithms are either learning automata or the multi-armed bandit algorithms. We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the proposed routing algorithms and prove the convergence of one of them to the user equilibrium. Discrete event simulation results show the merit of

The exponential growth of Internet applications has created new challenges for the control and administration of large-scale networks, which consist of heterogeneous elements under dynamically changing traffic conditions. Proportional Sticky Routing (PSR) and Credit Based Routing (CBR) have been proposed as localised QoS routing schemes and these can offer comparable performances. There is a dual emphasis on both theoretical justification and simulation evaluation. We have worked on several widely different problem settings - optical networks, input-queued crossbar switches, and CDMA wireless networks - and we found that the same set of scheduling

Abstract:
Multimedia services envisaged for high speed networks may have large numbers of users, require high volumes of network resources and have real-time delay constraints. For these reasons, several multicast routing heuristics that use two link metrics have been proposed with the objective of minimising multicast tree cost while maintaining a bound on delay. Previous evaluation work has compared the relative average performance of some of these heuristics and concludes that they are generally efficient. This thesis presents a detailed analysis and evaluation of these heuristics which illustrate th
