Abstract This chapter aims to (i) determine visitor crowding standards that help decision takers to improve the visitor experience and build an accurate tourism carrying capacity; and (ii) explore a possible relationship among crowding perception, origin of visitors and willingness to pay (WTP). The first section analyses the concepts of indicators and standards as well as the importance of crowding perception as a key indicator to assess the quality of the visitor experience. Relationships between the origin of visitors, crowding and WTP to access nature-based attractions are also examined theoretically in this section. The second section describes the importance of cenotes as a main water-based tourist attraction at the Yucatán Peninsula. The third section presents the methodology; quantitative questionnaires based on normative theory were used in a visual approach focusing on Dzombakal cenote. Results outlined in the fourth section show that crowding is a good indicator to evaluate the visitor experience in water-based settings like cenotes. However, as discussed and concluded in the final section, due to significant differences between the crowding standards of local and international visitors, the symbolic value of the cenotes should be considered if a better visitor experience management is to be met.

Abstract:
Abstract This study sought to understand the effectiveness of existing climate smart agricultural (CSA) practices used by smallholder farmers in Tehuledere District, north-eastern Ethiopia, using empirical data collected over 3 months in 2016. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from primary and secondary sources, including historical climatic records and perceptions, indicatiors of climate change, impacts and responses. The study employed focus group discussions and a household questionnaire survey during data collection. Findings reveal that the majority of participants are aware of climate change and variability. The indicators of climate change include drought, off-season rainfall, too little and/or too much rainfall, and high temperature. The impact of climate variability observed by participants include: (i) decreasing crop yields and livestock production; (ii) increasing pests and disease; and (iii) decreasing water quantity and quality. The adaptation measures embraced to mitigate negative climate change effects include: (i) changing crop varieties; (ii) integrating livestock and crop production; and (iii) soil and water conservation practices. As far as CSA practices were found to be viable and effective response measures, support from innovative polices and strategies should be emphasized so as to address the barriers and bring about widespread adoption.

Abstract:
AbstractData analytics is a key resource to analyze cities and to find their strengths and weaknesses to define long-term sustainable strategies. On the one hand, urban planning is geared to adapting cities’ strategies towards a qualitative, intelligent, and sustainable growth. On the other hand, institutions are geared towards open governance and collaborative administration models. In this context, sustainability has become a global concern for urban development, and the sustainable development goals (SDGs), defined by United Nations, are the framework to be followed to define the new city goals and to measure the advances of the policies implemented over recent years. The main objective of this research is to explain the methods and results of the application of a city assessment tool for measuring the impact of public policies on the socioeconomic and environmental structure of a city. It addresses the case study of the evaluation of the strategic plan “Diseña 2020” of the municipality of Alcobendas (Madrid, Spain, with 116.037 inhabitants), the document used to communicate the actions needed to achieve the city goals during the planning exercise. A selection of urban indicators has been aligned with the SDGs defined in the Agenda 2030 to develop a tool for the measurement of the impacts of policies in economic, social, and ecological terms. Through this set of indicators, the tool is able to quantify the impact of the policies on the city and the SDGs and to support the decision-making processes of the administration. The set of urban indicators is divided into five areas: economic development and employment, sustainable development, open government, social responsibility, and quality of life. The data evolution, across the recent years 2012–2018, is used to monitor and benchmark the effects of the applied policies. In addition, Alcobendas can be compared with other Spanish and European cities with similar characteristics; it makes possible assessing the achievement of the city’s strategic areas, incorporating the current trends and fostering the SDGs. Thanks to the quantitative comparable results and the objective approach, this research shows a methodology based on indicators that could be applied and scaled to other cities to generate a common framework for measuring the impact of public policies on cities.

Abstract:
The paper applies various qualitative and quantitative methods to measure the influence of information technology on the performance of operating rooms (ORs). It provides a comprehensive set of indicators to evaluate the impact of IT on the quality, efficiency and performance of ORs. This set of indicators was further enriched by conducting interviews with hospital professionals. The result is a new set of performance indicators, divided into five major categories: productivity, efficiency, quality, cost savings and employee satisfaction. This set of indicators serves as a basis for a weighed performance model that can be applied as a useful tool for selecting new OR information systems. Additionally, the model can be used for improving existing applications. The research identifies time registration, integration with the medical and financial systems of the hospital and production of activity queries and reports as the most common functions of ORs systems. However, despite their potential to contribute to productivity, efficiency and quality of ORs, automatic conflict recognition, material and personnel planning are less frequently applied by hospitals. Finally, the paper highlights the links between efficient use of OR systems, larger volumes of operations and higher occupation rates, and assists in identifying positive effects of systems used in ORs on their performance.

Machines are getting intelligent day by day. Modern science has gifted us many boons but simultaneously the mental, physical and spiritual disorders have surprisingly disturbed smile, peace and definite attitude and lifestyle of individual and all human beings. The stress has been the biggest challenge against mankind like nuclear weapons, global warming, and epidemics. It leads towards tension, frustration, and depression and ultimately in extreme cases towards the suicide or murder of innocents. The happiness index, safety of individual, living parameters have drastically challenged us and India specially has pathetic situation among global quality of life (QoL) index. This chapter is an effort to define a simulated model and framework for the subjective quality of stress into quantitative parameters and mathematically analyzing it with help of popular machine learning tools and applied methods. This chapter examines the reasons why individuals would choose electronic self-service delivery methods over more traditional methods of service delivery for government services. The chapter tests the concepts of technical quality (what is delivered) and functional quality (how the service is being delivered) in the development of t-government services. The study investigates, from the business-side and consumer-side, the factors related to decision making when people consider and evaluate the usage of an online TV government delivery mechanism. The approach taken was based on a combination of attitudinal technology adoption models and the service quality concept, with data gathered via two quantitative surveys. Accessibility, usability, and functionality of the systems are the most critical variables that service providers need to consider. The chapter identi?es some guiding lines in the design of the new services broadcast by digital television and the most important indicators to be used in order to guarantee an adequate interface to the citizens. The results are signi?cant to the public service manager who needs to consider both barriers and bene?ts of adoption if they are to develop plans to increase the take-up of their electronic services.

Image enhancement is a critical process in imagebased systems. In these systems, image quality is a crucial factor to achieve a good performance. Scenes with a dynamic range above the capability of the camera or poor lighting are challenging conditions, which usually result in low contrast images, and, with that, we can have the underexposure and/or overexposure problem. In this work, our aim is to restore illexposed images. For this purpose, we present UCAN, a small and fast learning-based model capable to restore and enhance poorly exposed images. The obtained results are evaluated using ima

Abstract:
The U.S. national parks have experienced significant climate-change impacts and rapid, on-going changes are expected to continue. Despite the significant climate-change vulnerabilities facing parks, relatively few parks have conducted comprehensive climate-change vulnerability assessments, defined as assessments that synthesize vulnerability information from a wide range of sources, identify key climate-change impacts, and prioritize vulnerable park resources (Michalak et al. In review). In recognition that funding and planning capacity is limited, this project was initiated to identify geogra
