Abstract Introduction/Objective The College of American Pathologists (CAP) checklist includes the quality assurance (QA) monitoring of the rate of diagnosis of Neisseria Gonorrhoeae (NG) and/or Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) by the molecular laboratory. Recently, the societal impacts of the economic lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant effect on the number of tests. However, the impact on the total testing costs as well as the positivity rate has not been well studied in the Veteran population. ABSTRACT Commonly used Jones-type discretionary accrual models applied in quarterly settings do not adequately control for nondiscretionary accruals that naturally occur due to firm growth. We show that the relation between quarterly accruals and backward-looking sales growth (measured over a rolling four-quarter window) and forward-looking firm growth (market-to-book ratio) is non-linear. Failure to control for the effects of firm growth and performance on innate accruals leads to excessive Type I error rates in tests of earnings management. We propose simple refinements to Jones-type models

ABSTRACT We exploit a regulatory change in Singapore to analyze the capital market effects of mandatory quarterly reporting. The listing rule implemented in 2003 has required firms with a market capitalization above S$75 million—but not firms with a market capitalization below this threshold—to publish quarterly financial statements. Using regression discontinuity analysis for our identification, we provide novel evidence of the causal effects of mandatory quarterly reporting on small firms. We find a 5 percent decrease in firm value, consistent with the notion that mandatory quarterly reporti

SUMMARY We identify instances in which the auditor-client relationship has been terminated but the auditor continues to complete a subsequent quarterly review. We refer to these instances as “lame duck auditor” quarters, and we contrast financial reporting quality in these quarters with that in non-lame duck auditor quarters. Using discretionary accruals and financial statement misstatements as proxies for financial reporting quality, we find that financial reporting quality is higher in lame duck auditor situations, suggesting that lame duck auditors perform more stringent quarterly reviews.

Abstract Monitoring of an Impressed Current Cathodic Protection with state of the art technology on two 436 feet high cooling towers with a surface area of 385,000 square feet has been carried out over the past nine months. The complex nature of monitoring eighty eight (88) control zones on each tower was only feasible by utilizing a combination of distributed DC power supplies all linked back to a main control unit by a two-tier, multi discipline network topology. In addition to operating the power supplies a total of seven hundred and twenty (720) reference electrodes are being monitored, wi

Abstract Polysiloxanes technology introduced to the Protective Coatings market in the mid to late 1990’s is a relatively new innovation, providing highly weatherable, low VOC, isocyanate-free topcoats. There are a number of commercially available polysiloxane finish products formulated, using different organic modifications necessary, to provide the required performance product attributes. New products to date are necessarily introduced to the market relatively quickly (5-10 years), based on a raft of laboratory and external test protocols, which attempt to correlate these results with real ti

Detecting the direction of inflation-growth relationship has been a controversial issue in terms of the theoretical framework, notedly since the rise of Mundell-Tobin effect which is based upon the assumption of substitutability between money and capital. In this study, it has been aimed to investigate the cointegrating relationship and its direction between inflation and economic growth covering the period 1998Q1:2014Q4 for Turkey as grounded on the testing sequence that is illustrated by Ilmakunnas (1990) in order to handle unit root testing in a seasonal context by testing the appropriate o

This study attempts to identify the relationship between the real exchange rate and trade balance in Albania with its major trading partner Italy. Due to the severe lockdown and restrictions policies in response to Covid-19 measures, there were important effects on the evolution of trade. Quarterly data from 2008 to 2022 are used in several econometric methods such as unit root tests, cointegration techniques, Granger test, and vector error correction model (VECM). The main findings of this study are that domestic income and exchange rate show a long-run positive relationship to the trade bala

After the global financial crisis, there have been serious increases in state debt of most countries. In addition, the debts for economic development are constantly increasing in the Eurasian Economic Union countries. As a result, the sustainability problem of government debt arises. In some countries, such as Kyrgyzstan, a significant portion of government debt is taken from a single country. This situation increases the risk even more. The aim of the study is to analyze the sustainability of state debts comparatively in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. To this end, the current s

Credit constraints are central to development economics theory. However, there is scant direct evidence that supports the existence of such constraints. This study uses a randomized control trial to explore the effects of enabling savings as a tool to smooth consumption, keeping income constant. The study focuses on community instructors in Mexico. The Mobility in Complex Environments project used unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to identify obstacles and to provide path planning in forward operational locations. The UAS were equipped with remote-sensing devices, such as photogrammetry and lidar, to identify obstacles. The path-planning algorithms incorporated the detected obstacles to then identify the fastest and safest vehicle routes. Future algorithms should incorporate vehicle characteristics as each type of vehicle will perform differently over a given obstacle, resulting in distinctive optimal paths.
