Abstract:
The pollen, plant macrofossil and aquatic fossil stratigraphies from a transect of sites in the Sierra Nevada, California, were examined to deduce paleoenvironmental change since the late-Wisconsinan. Fossil pollen samples were compared to modern pollen samples from both sides of the Sierra Nevada crest. Modern samples corresponded largely to modern vegetation units, validating the use of pollen for this purpose in mountainous environments. Vegetation change during the Holocene was largely contemporaneous on both sides of the crest at elevations where lake cores and meadow sections were analys

Abstract:
The nature and extent of environmental change over the Late Quaternary in Central Mexico is still uncertain. This study addresses the problem through an investigation of subfossil diatom assemblages in lacustrine sediments. As some doubt has been cast upon the reality of climatic change in Mexico, the variations in climate experienced over the archaeological and historical periods are described and possible explanations put forward in terms of the mechanisms of the present-day climate. The choice of technique and background to the region of the Neovolcanic Axis (Central Mexico) are outlined. A

Bibliography: leaves 124-140.<br>This dissertation deals with the dietary ecology of savanna-dwelling chacma baboons (Papio ursinus), and a number of fossil cercopithecoids, from modern and Pleistocene environments of South Africa, respectively, using principles of stable light isotope ecology. Previous studies of baboon ecology, based largely on direct observations, have not quantified spatial and temporal dietary variability. The dietary ecology of fossil cercopithecoids is even less clear.

Despite lake sensitivity to climate change, few Florida paleolimnological studies have focused on changes in hydrology. Evidence from Florida vegetation histories raise questions about long-term hydrologic history of Florida lakes, and a 25-year limnological dataset revealed recent climate-driven effects on Lake Annie. The objectives of this research are (1) to use modern diatom assemblages to develop methods for reconstruction of climatic and anthropogenic change (2) to reconstruct both long-term and recent histories of Lake Annie using diatom microfossils. Climate change during the last 2.5 million years is characterised by glacial-interglacial cycles of fluctuating sea level and temperature increasing in magnitude and duration towards the present day. The central North Sea preserves these glacial-interglacial cycles in an expanded sedimentary sequence creating a high resolution palaeo-climatic record. Basin-wide, low-resolution 3D seismic data, covering more than 80,000 km2 of the central North Sea, is combined with high-resolution, broadband 3D seismic, regional 2D seismic and local ultra-high resolution seismic from the Dogger Bank windfarm d

Abstract:
Results of the study of Neogene-Quaternary deposits of Sardakh Island (the Lena Delta) are described here. Taxonomic composition and spore-pollen spectra structure analysis indicated that sandstones, which are located in the section bottom have middle-late Miocene age. The middle part of the studied section has a Pliocene - early Pleistocene age. The upper part has a late Pleistocene age. We assume that sediments were deposited in the river environments.
