Abstract:
The Quercy Phosphorites Formation in France is world famous for its Eocene to Miocene faunas, especially those from the upper Eocene to lower Oligocene, the richest of all. The latter particularly helped to understand the ‘Grande Coupure’, a dramatic faunal turnover event that occurred in Europe during the Eocene-Oligocene transition. Fossils from the Quercy Phosphorites were excavated from the middle 19th century until the early 20th century in a series of sites and became subsequently dispersed over several research institutions, while often losing the temporal and geographical information in the process. In this contribution, we provide an overview and reassess the taxonomy of these barely known collections housed in three Belgian institutions: the Université de Liège, KU Leuven, and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. We focus our efforts on the carnivorous mammals (Hyaenodonta and Carnivoramorpha) and assess the stratigraphic intervals covered by each collection. These fossils are derived from upper Eocene (Priabonian), lower Oligocene (Rupelian), and upper Oligocene (Chattian) deposits in the Quercy area. The richness of the three collections (e.g., the presence of numerous postcranial elements in the Liège collection), the presence of types and figured specimens in the Leuven collection, and some identified localities in the RBINS collection make these collections of great interest for further studies on systematics and the evolution of mammals around the ‘Grande Coupure’.

Abstract:
"<br>From the présent stat of the château of Assier, which represents about one-tenth of the edifice built by Galiot de Genouillac between 1515 and 1540, it is difficult to have an idea of the former greatness and quality of the edifice. As captain-general of the French artillery in 1512 and François Ist great equerry in 1525, Galiot was an eminent figure at the court, whose architectural and humanistic tastes he expresses before others in Southern France. With some exceptional documents it is possible, not only to form an idea, but also to restitute very precisely the lost wings. This study is based on the analysis of the various historical documents -figurative, manuscript or printed sources- which are confronted with the remains either on-site or dispersed. It leads to the restitution of the architecture and decoration, and to the account of the influences undergone and then exerted by what was, according to Brantôme, "the most superb house one could see"

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This search is about civil architecture and try to establish, for the Quercy, the chronology of the architecture's evolution from twelfth to fourteenth century. The monographic approch studies eighty-three buildings sorted with typology. The study of architecture involves the environment of the basting in the Quercy's towns, the historic context, the natural sphere, the urban frame of the cities, the human, political, economical and social sphere and the technics resources, building modes and materials in use. In front of the fiew and wretched writing witnesses and the difficulty to identify the buildings mentioned, we have elaborated a working'method fonded on the geometral drawing of the identified footprints and the graphic restitution of the initial dispositions. The global comparative of the buildings and the study of theirs organisations permit us to elabore a typology. The fiew sculpted decoration incites us to find in the drawing of the brised arches a true trace of datation. The study of theirs definitions, based on the Villard de Honnecourt'notes deciphered by Roland Bechmann (Villard de Honnecourt, La pensée technique au XIIIème siècle et sa communication, Picard, 1991), and theirs transpositions in the buildings in census, incite to look after the proportions in use during each stylistic period. The confrontation of mark known with the identitied periods and the evolution of the architectures'shapes permit to elaborate a complete chronology. Comparisions with civils buildings outside the quercy permit to appreciate the originality of the region and to refine the bonds and the exchanges during every periods

Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to question the link between material productions and cultural identities of Neolithic communities through the example of the Middle Neolithic Southern Chassey culture and of its ceramics. The first chapter summarizes, in a historical perspective, the different meanings given to the stylistic characteristics of the Chassey ceramic productions and the means of their recognition. In a second chapter, the monographic study of four previously unpublished sites, Capdenac-le-Haut, Roucadour, la Perte du Cros et le Noyer (Lot, France), allows to establish stratigraphic sequences documenting the local evolution of the ceramic productions. It is then possible, in the two last parts, to analyse in details the stylistic variability of those productions in a chronological and geographical context perfectly controlled and to put into evidence the complexity of the parameters working out the ceramic style. Those results lead to wonder the cultural and social mechanisms structuring the Neolithic societies

Abstract:
"l'Essor du Quercy" (december 1965 -august 1974), born in french town of Cahors (Lot), has been published for one year when its foreign origin was obviousness: the another newspaper "l'essor du Limousin", born in town of Limoges (Haute-Vienne). Informatique in both "essor" was politized by less gaullist ideology than political ambitions. Under direction of the prime minister Georges Pompidou, and his political "friends" (Jacques Chirac, Jean Charbonnel and Bernard Pons), these newspapers were used for government's propaganda and for politician's support during electioneering. In spite of endeavours to publish also other kind of news, "l'Essor du Quercy" could not become a real newspaper. That is the final result of the research

Abstract:
The problem of whether a recursive query can be rewritten as query without recursion is a fundamental reasoning task, known as the boundedness problem. Here we study the boundedness problem for Unions of Conjunctive Regular Path Queries (UCRPQs), a navigational query language extensively used in ontology and graph database querying. The boundedness problem for UCRPQs is known to be decidable, ExpSpace-complete. Here we focus our analysis on UCRPQs using simple regular expressions, which are of high practical relevance and enjoy a lower reasoning complexity. We show that the complexity for the boundedness problem for this UCRPQs fragment is Pi-p-2-complete, and that an equivalent bounded query can be produced in polynomial time whenever possible. When the query turns out to be unbounded, we also study the task of finding an equivalent maximally bounded query, which we show to be feasible in Pi-p-2 . As a side result of independent interest stemming from our developments, we study a notion of succinct finite automata and prove that its membership problem is NP-complete.

Abstract:
Ontology-based query answering is a problem that takes as input a set of facts F, an ontology R (typically expressed by existential rules), a Boolean query q , and asks whether R and F entails q. This problem is undecidable in general, and a widely investigated approach to tackle it is called query rewriting: from (R,q) (a ``rule query'') is computed q_R such that for any set of facts F, it holds that R and F entail q iff F entails q_R. The literature mostly focused on q_R expressed as a union of conjunctive queries (UCQs), and an algorithm that such a q_R whenever it exists has been proposed in the literature. However, UCQ-rewritability is applicable only in restricted settings. This raises the question whether such a generic algorithm can be designed for a more expressive language, such as datalog. We solve this question by the negative, by studying the difference between datalog-expressibility and datalog-rewritability. In particular, we show that query answering under datalog-expressible rule queries is undecidable.

Abstract:
The Shapley value, originally introduced in cooperative game theory for wealth distribution, has found use in KR and databases for the purpose of assigning scores to formulas and database tuples based upon their contribution to obtaining a query result or inconsistency. In the present paper, we explore the use of Shapley values in ontology-mediated query answering (OMQA) and present a detailed complexity analysis of Shapley value computation (SVC) in the OMQA setting. In particular, we establish a FP / #P-hard dichotomy for SVC for ontology-mediated queries (T, q) composed of an ontology T is formulated in the description logic ELHIbot and a connected constant-free homomorphism-closed query q. We further show that the #P-hardness side of the dichotomy can be strengthened to cover possibly disconnected queries with constants. Our results exploit recently discovered connections between SVC and probabilistic query evaluation and allow us to generalize existing results on probabilistic OMQA.

Abstract:
Ontology-based query answering augments classical query answering in databases by adopting the open-world assumption and by including domain knowledge provided by an ontology. We investigate temporal query answering w.r.t. ontologies formulated in DL-Lite, a family of description logics that captures the conceptual features of relational databases and was tailored for efficient query answering. We consider a recently proposed temporal query language that combines conjunctive queries with the operators of propositional linear temporal logic (LTL). In particular, we consider negation in the ontology and query language, and study both data and combined complexity of query entailment.

Abstract:
Ontology-based data access (OBDA) generalizes query answering in relational databases. It allows to query a database by using the language of an ontology, abstracting from the actual relations of the database. For ontologies formulated in Description Logics of the DL-Lite family, OBDA can be realized by rewriting the query into a classical first-order query, e.g. an SQL query, by compiling the information of the ontology into the query. The query is then answered using classical database techniques. In this report, we consider a temporal version of OBDA. We propose a temporal query language that combines a linear temporal logic with queries over DL-Litecore-ontologies. This language is well-suited for expressing temporal properties of dynamical systems and is useful in context-aware applications that need to detect specific situations. Using a first-order rewriting approach, we transform our temporal queries into queries over a temporal database. We then present three approaches to answering the resulting queries, all having different advantages and drawbacks.
