The objective was to study the construct validity of the MOS SF-36 (Medical Outcome Study, short form questionnaire, version of 36 items) using structural equation modeling (SEM). Despite the widespread use of the questionnaire, several problems with the measurement model have been shown in the past, and it is highly disputable whether the computation of two component (summary) scales according to the published algorithm is a valid condensation. The SEM was conducted with the data of N = 2,874; the SF-36 was part of a questionnaire given prior to acupuncture treatment. The results indicated po

Abstract Introduction: Treatment and prevention of VTE is crucial, yet anticoagulation is under-prescribed in cancer patients. The recommended treatment for established VTE in cancer patients is low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) once daily for at least 3 months, and termination or continuation of treatment after 3-6 months is still based on individual evaluation of the benefit-risk ratio, tolerability, drug availability, patient preference, and cancer. Despite important concerns about long-term patient tolerance for LMWH treatment (after 10 days) and its side effects, no study has analyzed t

Abstract Treatment of AL amyloidosis patients with high-dose melphalan chemotherapy followed by autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (HDM/SCT) can produce hematologic complete responses (CRs) and improvement in organ function. To determine whether these responses are accompanied by improvement in quality of life (QOL), we employed the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) 36-item Short Form General Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaire for 544 patients evaluated between 1994 and 2002. At baseline, the scores were significantly lower on all 8 SF-36 scales compared with age-matched populat
