Stevens, Caroline A. "A research framework and questionnaire for group decision support system evaluation." Thesis, Loughborough University, 1995. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/25599.

Full text
Abstract:
Group Decision Support Systems (GDSS) have been designed to support groups of people engaged in the cooperative working activities of a meeting. The interactions of a group of people working together in a meeting are termed the "group process" whereby certain factors or input variables influence the group process which in turn characterize the group process outcomes. A review of the work in this field has revealed the absence of a standard organizing framework in GDSS research that adequately models this group process and identifies those variables recognized as characterizing the group process. The introduction of such a framework would be a significant advance in GDSS research, both improving the methods for describing and assessing GDSS-supported meetings and helping to understand the effects of input variables on the group process and its outputs. This thesis presents such a framework. Evaluation of the group process and its outcomes is essential in studying the use of GDSS and the effects of input variables upon the group process and its outcome. Post-process questionnaires to be completed by group members have frequently been used to evaluate GDSS. However, articles describing the use of questionnaires in GDSS research provide little information regarding development of the questionnaires and the assessment of validity and reliability of questionnaires is rarely addressed. This calls into question the validity and reliability of results and conclusions drawn from questionnaire responses. In this research, a questionnaire which aims to evaluate group members' perceptions of the meeting process and its outcomes was developed directly from the variables in the framework. The questionnaire was completed by a total of 57 group members attending five meetings using three different types of GDSS to help them with their real problems. Their responses were used to test the questionnaire for validity and reliability. The results of these tests were used to revise the questionnaire. As a result, a valid questionnaire has been devised which can be used with confidence in future research to provide valid conclusions. Use of such a standard valid questionnaire will produce comparable results from all GDSS research, promoting cross comparison of study results, more efficient interpretation of results and more fruitful conclusions. This will enhance the researchers' understanding of GDSS use.

Antunes, Rita de Pádua. "Clinical utility of the personal questionnaire." Master's thesis, Universidade de Évora, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10174/19914.

Full text
Abstract:
The demand to implement routine outcome assessment in mental health care services calls for measures with clinical utility, i. e, feasible to therapists, acceptable to clients and generalizable to settings. This research aims to explore the clinical utility of a patient-generated measure, the Personal Questionnaire (PQ). An on-line survey was designed (study I) and administered to an international sample of 25 therapists with experience using the PQ (study II). Results suggest that the PQ is perceived as a clinically significant and fairly practical measure, useful not only in assessing outcome but also in various clinical tasks. Furthermore, it is relatively well accepted by clients and it is extremely generalizable to different clients, clinical approaches and settings. Specific suggestions to increase the PQ’s clinical utility are provided.

Abstract:
Informations measurement as defined by information theory (particularly entropy, equivocation, ambiguity, capacity, redundancy and transmitted information) proposes a new series of tools for the evaluation of survey questionnaires. These tools make it possible to measure the amount of information one can get from each surveyed person, and established general questionnaire design rules that lead to the optimization of this amount of information

Christensen, Maribeth. "An Interdisciplinary Theoretical Framework for the Mailed Questionnaire Process and the Development of a Theory on Immediacy and Salience as Significant Variables of Response Rates." DigitalCommons@USU, 1996. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/4689.

Full text
Abstract:
The mailed questionnaire research process developed historically as part of the survey research movement, with guidelines and models drawn from an array of scientific research methods and disciplines. Although the mailed questionnaire has become one of the most popular research instruments for obtaining data beyond the reach of the observer, the response bias generated from the generally low return rate of the mailed questionnaire survey has remained a problem. For over three decades researchers have generated a plethora of research on the effectiveness of the various aspects of the mailed questionnaire process and the resultant impact of various constructs on survey return . But despite these efforts, researchers have not succeeded collectively in producing a clear, compelling, or consistent set of principles that, if followed, will produce high response rates in mailed questionnaire research . With the certainty that more knowledge and constructs will be generated in all areas of the mailed questionnaire process, scholars have issued a call for a viable theory to direct future research efforts on response rates . Therefore, the purpose of this study was to address that need . The dissertation research reported in this paper accomplished five major objectives. It (a) developed an interdisciplinary theoretical framework for the mailed questionnaire process; (b) identified 13 determinants of response costs in the mailed questionnaire process; (c) proposed immediacy and salience as the most significant determinant variables of response rates, from a synthesis of the research literature with the theoretical framework; (d) proposed a theory and theoretical model that explain and illustrate the interaction of immediacy and salience in determining response rate levels; and (e) recommended a method for testing the proposed theory and for utilizing the proposed theory to achieve high response rates in future mailed questionnaire studies.

Zatkin, Judith Gayle. "Examining the Structure of the Modus Operandi Questionnaire for Adult & Juvenile Sex Offenders." PDXScholar, 2017. https://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/open_access_etds/4073.

Full text
Abstract:
Child sexual abuse is a pervasive crime that has numerous negative short and long-term impacts on its victims, as well as negative impacts for society. Modus Operandi (MO) is defined as a pattern of perpetration utilized by those who commit CSA to successfully abuse a child without detection. Understanding how CSA is perpetrated through MO is essential, as this construct influences both prevention of CSA, and treatment for victims and perpetrators. The Modus Operandi Questionnaire (Kaufman, 1991; MOQ) is the first and most comprehensive measurement tool for CSA MO, and is utilized by both researchers and clinicians. This study provides an up-to-date factor analysis of the MOQ, breaking the measure into five stage-based scales (i.e.; Accessing the victim, Gaining the victim's trust, Gaining the victim's cooperation, Sexual Abuse, and Silencing after the abuse). Each stage-based scale was analyzed through Exploratory Factor Analysis to determine structure followed by a Confirmatory Factor Analysis to examine model fit, as well as loadings of first-order factors onto their respective stage-based second order factors. Although model fit for all five scales can be improved, the results of this study determined reliable factors within all five scales, and show a structure that can be utilized to further inform research, treatment, and prevention of CSA.

Abstract:

Teasing among children is pervasive; however, it has received remarkably little attention in the empirical, theoretical, or methodological literature in Taiwan. The purposes of this study were to translate and psychometrically validate the Chinese versions of the CATS (CATS-C). The purposes for this study were accomplished in two major phases. Phase I focused on translating the CATS and evaluating the psychometric equivalency of the original English and translated CATS-C. First, the CATS was translated into Chinese and semantic equivalence was determined by three different kinds of evaluations during the translation process. Then, the semantic equivalence of the translated CATS-C was empirically tested with 25 6th grade bilingual students. The results of the paired sample t-test and the Pearson correlation indicated congruence between the two versions of the CATS on the semantic equivalence. In order to evaluate each item’s relevance in Taiwanese culture, a Content Validity Index (CVI) was calculated among the ratings of the five Taiwanese elementary school teachers. The CVI was .88 for the entire CATS and were .66 to 1.0 for the four subscales. One additional item, “personal hygiene”, was included at the suggestion of the experts. ii Phase II focused on evaluating the psychometric properties of the CATS-C. The 33-item adapted CATS-C was tested on a sample of 343 4th through 6th grade Taiwanese students to determine its psychometric properties. Construct validity was assessed through PCA with Varimax rotation. Reliability was tested through the analysis of internal consistency. The results showed that five-component solution was the most appropriate and interpretable solution for the 29-item CATS-C after deleting four items. Cronbach’s alpha was .91 for the total CATS-C scale and were .73 - .83 for the five CATS-C subscales. The 29-item CATS-C with five components is a culturally appropriate instrument which has potential for determining Taiwanese students at high risk from teasing. Further studies are recommended to test the reliability and validity of the CATS-C

This diploma thesis is focused on franchising and a practical application of a theory. The theoretical part describes basic principles of franchising, its advantages and disadvantages and franchise agreement. I put more emphasis on development and current state of franchising in the Czech Republic. I describe and evaluate franchising in the company Alpine Pro in the practical part of the thesis. I show that a purely Czech franchise concept is able to succeed in stiff competition - and not only in the Czech Republic. The aim is to evaluate franchisor - franchisee relationship (on the basis of the questionnaire research) and to suggest some measures and recommendations that would lead to improvement of the weak points of the franchise concept Alpine Pro.

Murphy, Cari. "Residential Learning Outcomes: Analysis Using the College Student Experiences Questionnaire at a Large Public Research University." Scholar Commons, 2010. https://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/1718.

Full text
Abstract:
The creation of learning outcomes inside and outside of the classroom on college campuses has been a growing trend based on a variety of publications which encouraged the fostering of diverse types learning and the measurement of student learning outside of the classroom (ACPA, 1994; Keeling, 2004). The creation of the learning outcomes is a positive step, however, assessment of the learning outcomes must be conducted to determine what students are learning and what areas are to be improved otherwise the learning outcomes are meaningless. This study was conducted at a large public research university where the Department of Housing and Residential Education had recently identified its Residential Learning Outcomes. Consequentially an assessment of the over attainment of the Residential Learning Outcomes, the impact the number of years a student resided on campus had on the attainment of the Residential Learning Outcomes and the impact the number of years a student was enrolled at the institution had on the attainment of the Residential Learning Outcomes may be useful to the university and the wider body of knowledge about residential education. Using targeted questions from the CSEQ the study found that there were significant levels of achievement for residential students for six of the seven Residential Learning Outcomes especially when isolating the Quality of Effort scales. When evaluating the number of years a student has been enrolled, however, no relationship was found.

Iurino, Kathryn. "Comparative and Cross-Cultural Validity of the Moral Actions Questionnaire, a Measure for Ethical Virtue." Thesis, University of Oregon, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/1794/23911.

Full text
Abstract:
Though current personality models provide a starting point for measuring ethical virtues, ethical content may not be fully captured in existing personality inventories due in part to the systematic elimination of morally-relevant trait-adjectives in early lexical studies. Further, personality dimensions relevant to measuring the ethical domain include both ethical and non-ethical content. The Moral Actions Questionnaire was designed to assess seven conceptually-distinct ethical virtues that are emphasized across cultures and philosophies. This dissertation investigates the performance of the Moral Actions Questionnaire, relative to other candidate models of ethical virtue from personality inventories. Psychometric quality, structural validity, and predictive validity for these models are evaluated in samples from five countries: Kenya, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States. Findings suggest that the Moral Actions Questionnaire aids in prediction of altruistic bravery, guilt proneness, satisfaction with life, and meaning with life across most countries. Patterns in psychometric quality and structure across countries and methods (self- and informant-report) are discussed.

Abstract:
Introduction: Health-related websites have developed to be much more than information sites: they are used to exchange experiences and find support as well as information and advice. It is important that health professionals and website developers understand how content may impact users. This thesis documents the development and application of a tool to measure the impact of using health-related websites which contain experiential and/or factual information. Methods: A multi-method study with five stages. Stage 1: Questionnaire items based upon themes relating to the impact of using health-related websites were constructed following qualitative secondary analysis of 93 interviews relating to patient and carer experiences of health and a recent literature review. Items were assessed by an expert panel. Stage 2: Cognitive interviews were carried out to confirm acceptability of items. Stage 3: Item reduction steps were used to reduce the number of items. Stage 4: The validity and reliability of the remaining items were tested using traditional and modern psychometric methods. Stage 5: The new questionnaire was piloted in a randomised controlled trial. Results: Eighty-two items were constructed according to the key themes identified in Stage 1. Following expert and patient refinement, two independent item pools entered psychometric testing. The first item pool related to general views of using the internet in relation to health and the second item pool related to the impact of using a specific health-related website. Sub-scales and summary scores were found to have high construct validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability. The questionnaire showed high completion rates and low counts of missing data in a trial setting. Conclusion: Analysis confirmed good psychometric properties in the eHIQ-Part 1 (11 items) and the eHIQ-Part 2 (26 items). Preliminary findings of trial data demonstrate the acceptability and feasibility of including the eHIQ in randomised controlled trials. This tool will enable the measurement of the impact of health-related websites containing various styles of information and support across a range conditions and facilitate their accurate evaluation in clinical trials.

Quill, Emma. "Developing a Scale for Assessing the Forensic Experience of Recovery : the SAFER questionnaire and clinical research portfolio." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2015. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/6675/.

Full text
Abstract:
Developing a Scale for Assessing the Forensic Experience of Recovery: the SAFER questionnaire and Clinical Research Portfolio Abstract Background: A conceptual framework of recovery was developed through systematic identification of five key processes - Connectedness, hope/optimism, identity, meaning in life and empowerment (CHIME). There are increasing efforts to implement recovery focused interventions in forensic setting. To date there has not been a self-report recovery measure developed for this population. Aims: The primary aim was to develop a self-report recovery measure for forensic service-users, conceptually based on the Good Lives Model (GLM) of offender rehabilitation and the CHIME model of recovery. Secondary aims were to explore the concurrent validity, test-retest reliability and internal consistency of the measure. Method: The processes of recovery outlined in CHIME and the description of primary goods from the GLM were explored to identify overlapping constructs. When researchers reached a consensus on the connection between constructs, items for the questionnaire were developed. The questionnaire was titled SAFER (The Scale for Assessing the Forensic Experience of Recovery). A cross-sectional pilot study was devised to evaluate concurrent validity, test-retest reliability and internal consistency of the SAFER. Results: Forty-six forensic inpatients in low, medium and high secure facilities participated. Results show the SAFER had concurrent validity, good test-retest reliability and internal consistency. Conclusions: The findings offer preliminary evidence for the validity and reliability of the SAFER. Further, larger scale research is necessary to evaluate additional psychometric properties. Declaration of interest: none.

Hanna, Lisa. "The challenge of cross-cultural comparability in survey research : a case study of the Rose Angina questionnaire." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/23967.

Full text
Abstract:
The Rose Angina Questionnaire (RAQ) is an important measure of coronary heart disease prevalence. It has been shown to perform inconsistently across some ethnic groups in Britain. For multi-ethnic survey research, an angina screening instrument with greater cross-cultural validity is required. Objectives: To assess the need for, and feasibility of, modifying the RAQ to produce a cross-culturally valid angina screening tool for use in Punjabi, Cantonese and English speakers. Participants expressed a range of health beliefs and behaviours. Perceptions and significance of pain and chest pain varied. However, whilst there were some themes that varied between groups, no dominant themes in the cultural construction of health, pain or cardiovascular knowledge emerged that may significantly influence RAQ response between language groups. Individual differences such as general anxiety about health, or awareness of cardiac symptoms, were more likely to affect perception of, and response to, RAQ items. Problems were encountered with the Punjabi and Cantonese translations of the RAQ, where inappropriate translocations may have produced distorted data on angina prevalence. For example, the translation for “chest” was interpreted by some Pakistani and fewer Chinese woman to mean “breasts”. “Waling uphill” was translated in Chinese as “walking the hill”, without stipulation of the direction, so that some Cantonese speakers interpreted the question as pertaining to walking downhill. In addition, many Chinese interpreted RAQ items to be referring to breathlessness rather than chest pain due to ambiguous wording. Standardised administration of questionnaire items by an interviewer may also be difficult to establish. The process of lay assessment of questionnaire appropriateness using bilingual project workers also raised methodological challenges- the assessment task was difficult for participants to understand and for bilingual project workers to implement. There is evidence that existing Punjabi and Cantonese versions of the Rose Angina Questionnaire should be modified further before being used in multi-ethnic surveys. Current versions are unlikely to be yielding data that is equivalent or comparable across groups. Other language versions may also require investigation to ensure comparability.

Smith, Paul R. "A study of the uses of a blog-based Critical Incident Questionnaire in Further Education." Thesis, University of Derby, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10545/623083.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines the use of a digital Critical Incident Questionnaire (CIQ), which was originally developed by Professor Stephen Brookfield, to extract perspectives of students on the lecture/lesson they had just conducted. Three FE colleges in the UK took part in the study and utilised a blog for students to post their comments. Students conducting media production courses at level three and four were the focus groups that submitted approaching two thousand CIQ responses over two academic years. The aim of utilising the CIQ was for a course tutor to receive additional perspectives on their practice and instant on-event feedback, resulting in identifying whether the learners mimicked the course tutor’s perspective. The findings indicate that the other perspectives gathered from the CIQ provided the course tutor with a greater understanding of their practice and assisted them in becoming more critically reflective. Additionally, some CIQ comments were different from the assumptions of the course tutor, which allowed them to adapt the delivery of the programme. Furthermore, utilising the data from the CIQ has identified that some of the comments students provide to the course tutor in-class do not mimic the comments of the CIQ. Moreover, comments received through the CIQ identify that there are also managerial implications, such as the usefulness and reliability of teaching observations, student induction and exit questionnaires. Utilising a blog format allowed students to submit their responses on a variety of digital devices, but some problems remained similar to Brookfield’s carbon paper-based system. There appears to be a definite place for using the CIQ in FE educational practice, and many best practice recommendations are constructed.

Abstract:
In most of the studies, face to face interviews are required with individuals for data collection and hence to apply questionnaires. There are two methods for applying the questionnaire
the paper-based and the electronic method. The paper-based method takes time and is of a high cost to the researchers. Because of writing/reading based errors, this method may cause inaccuracy in collected data. On the contrary, conducting questionnaires in electronic environment procures savings in cost and time, improves data accuracy, gives faster results, and increases efficiency. However, in this method some problems may arise in surveys conducted in urban areas, i.e. problems related to communication and network infrastructure. Nevertheless, advances in Information Technologies provide mobile data collection and computing, and hence they have become a significant place in every part of our life. Many researchers have begun to prefer using these developing technologies in their studies since using mobile devices in conducting health surveys is more useful and economical than the paper-based questionnaires. In this thesis, we have developed a mobile device-based questionnaire, which is an adaptation of the one used by the National Cancer Institute of USA in paper-based form. In other words, in this work the &ldquo
Health Habits and History Questionnaire&rdquo
has been adopted to the pocket PCs. It is planned to be used for an ongoing epidemiological study in Ç
ukurova region. We hope that this study will be an example for the similar studies in the future.

Full text
Abstract:
BACKGROUND:Researchers are finding limitations of currently available disease-focused questionnaire tools for outcome studies in complementary and alternative medicine/integrative medicine (CAM/IM).METHODS:Three substudies investigated the new one-item visual analogue Arizona Integrative Outcomes Scale (AIOS), which assesses self-rated global sense of spiritual, social, mental, emotional, and physical well-being over the past 24 hours and the past month. The first study tested the scale's ability to discriminate unhealthy individuals (n = 50) from healthy individuals (n = 50) in a rehabilitation outpatient clinic sample. The second study examined the concurrent validity of the AIOS by comparing ratings of global well-being to degree of psychological distress as measured by the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) in undergraduate college students (N = 458). The third study evaluated the relationships between the AIOS and positively- and negatively-valenced tools (Positive and Negative Affect Scale and the Positive States of Mind Scale) in a different sample of undergraduate students (N = 62).RESULTS:Substudy (i) Rehabilitation patients scored significantly lower than the healthy controls on both forms of the AIOS and a current global health rating. The AIOS 24-hours correlated moderately and significantly with global health (patients r = 0.50
controls r = 0.45). AIOS 1-month correlations with global health were stronger within the controls (patients r = 0.36
controls r = 0.50). Controls (r = 0.64) had a higher correlation between the AIOS 24-hour and 1-month forms than did the patients (r = 0.33), which is consistent with the presumptive improvement in the patients' condition over the previous 30 days in rehabilitation. Substudy (ii) In undergraduate students, AIOS scores were inversely related to distress ratings, as measured by the global severity index on the BSI (rAIOS24h = -0.42, rAIOS1month = -0.40). Substudy (iii) AIOS scores were significantly correlated with positive affect (rAIOS24h = 0.56, rAIOS1month = 0.57) and positive states of mind (rAIOS24h = 0.42, rAIOS1month = 0.45), and inversely correlated with negative affect (rAIOS24h = -0.41, rAIOS1month = -0.59).CONCLUSIONS:The AIOS is able to distinguish relatively sicker from relatively healthier individuals
and correlates in expected directions with a measure of distress and indicators of positive and negative affect and positive states of mind. The AIOS offers a tool for CAM/IM research that extends beyond a disease emphasis.

Abstract:
Survey instruments utilized to quantify relationships, or aspects of relationships, may introduce multiple sources of nonindependence"”clustered variance"”into scores, including from actor, alter and dyadic sources. Estimating the magnitude of actor, alter and dyad nonindependence and their impact on the reliability of scores is an important step towards assuring quality data. Multilevel confirmatory factor analysis and the social relations model offer methods for quantifying the influence and estimating the reliability of multiple sources of clustered variance. The use of these methods is illustrated in the analysis of data gathered via a survey designed to quantify relational embeddedness in social network analyses.

Smith, Rachele Judith. "Effective diversity management : questionnaire and action research studies exploring theoretical and practical models for improving diversity management and its outcomes within organisations." Thesis, Kingston University, 2012. http://eprints.kingston.ac.uk/24839/.

Full text
Abstract:
Within a complex global marketplace, achieving cultural diversity within organisations, and managing it effectively, is a challenge. Despite high capital expenditure on diversity management initiatives, research shows programmes have been ineffective in yielding significant positive outcomes. This raises two questions. The first is: ‘Why do organisations continue to invest in diversity management if it is not effective?’ The second is: ‘Why are diversity management practices not effective?’ Answers to both questions are sought, and improvements which can be made and sustained are explored. It is written for professionals with responsibility for diversity management. They include board members, human resource professionals, equality, diversity and inclusion practitioners, and corporate responsibility professionals. They have been charged with overseeing diversity management, and require greater knowledge and strategic savvy in order to meet their objectives. The main question of this thesis is: ‘How can diversity management effectiveness be improved within a complex global marketplace?’ Three studies critically explore the relationship between the quality of institutional management culture and the effectiveness of the diversity management practices. The first, a questionnaire study, explores the causal relationship between a variety of independent variables and their effect on diversity management. The second and third are exploratory and descriptive action research case studies, examining the effects of a democratic and participative system of institutional governance on the effectiveness of diversity management. This thesis contributes to diversity management literature by highlighting, and suggesting how to overcome institutional ethoi which run counter to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion, thus creating barriers reducing the effectiveness of diversity management initiatives. This knowledge will enable researchers and practitioners to understand more fully institutional root causes impeding development, and how to challenge them effectively. It will also assist in developing effective diversity strategies outside of the Anglo-American context within which this HRM practice began.

Gesar, Berit. "Är organisationen mogen för evidensbaserad vård? : översättning och validering av Alberta Context Tool och beskrivning av sjuksköterskors skattning av kontextuella faktorer inom ortopedisk vård." Thesis, Högskolan Dalarna, Omvårdnad, 2008. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:du-6180.

Full text
Abstract:

_________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
Canine Behavioral Assessment & Research Questionnaire (C-BARQ) has already been applied on researches in United States (Hsu & Serpell, 2003), Japan (Nagasawa et al., 2011) and Iran (Tamimi, Jamshidi, Serpell, & Mousavi, 2015) to assess dog’s behaviour. This study aims at adapting this instrument to Brazilian reality. A total of 2217 answers have been collected from all the country. Factorial analysis extracted 14 factors related to canine behavior that explain 38,061% of variance. These factors were related to aggression (toward unknown people; toward unknown dogs, to other dogs in the house and for protection); fear (toward unknown people; toward unknown dogs; related to unpleasant events); the interaction with the owner (separation related behavior; attachment and attention seeking, trainability); mobility (activity & energy; excitement related to some event); and aspects of biological nature (physiological needs when left alone, behavior directed to non-dogs and non-humans animals). Comparing this factors with the ones used in the United States, Japan or Iran, three different factors, four equivalent factors and seven similar factors were found. As the names of the factors have influence over the interpretation of the items and this may affect the human perception of those behaviors, it is necessary to investigate objectively which emotions are associated to these behaviors, that interferes in the way these animals are treated, having consequences on their welfare. It’s important to study the behavior of dogs without breed, that represent 26.4 % of the sample of this study, to probably enhance abandoned dogs adoption.
