В статье рассматривается история раскопок крупнейшей римской гробницы, а именно мавзолея императора Цезаря Августа. Основное внимание уделяется результатам недавних археологических работ и тому, как они повлияли на представление о памятнике. Гробница первого римского императора в пост-античную эпоху претерпела различные трансформации и неоднократные грабежи, в результате которых сильно пострадала. Памятнику находили практическое применение вплоть до 1930-х гг. За многовековую историю мавзолей использовали как каменоломню, крепость, которую не раз разрушали, виноградник, сад, амфитеатр для корриды, театр и концертный зал. Первые археологические работы на территории памятника проводились уже в XVI в. Именно с них начинается история исследования монумента и результаты, полученные тогда, до сих пор имеют большое значение для науки. На протяжении длительного времени после эпохи Ренессанса объект изучался только периодически, в связи с какими-либо строительными работами, проводившимися на его территории. Работы на памятнике активизируются с начала XX в. Масштабные раскопки состоялись в 1920-30-е гг. Их проведение диктовалось не научными целями: Бенито Муссолини стремился использовать римское наследие в своей пропаганде. Тем не менее, в результате проведенных работ мавзолей был не только освобожден от пост-античных наслоений, но полученные тогда результаты заложили современное представление о памятнике. Интерес к мавзолею возобновляется только через семьдесят лет. Непосредственным толчком было решение реконструировать мавзолей и площадь вокруг него. В результате раскопок, проведенных департаментом культурного наследия столицы Рима, были получены археологические данные, изменяющие взгляд на внешний облик монумента и позволяющие поставить точку в дискуссии по данному вопросу. L'obiettivo di questo saggio è indagare il rapporto tra innovazione sociale, università e città. Per fare ciò vengono presentati alcuni studi di caso costruiti a ridosso di pratiche innovative promosse a Milano e Venezia. Dopo aver evidenziato che il rapporto tra università e innovazione sociale è un tema emergente del campo di studi e che l'approccio prevalentemente adottato fino ad oggi è riconducibile all'elica a tre pale, viene messa in evidenza la necessità di sviluppare un differente approccio analitico, che aiuti ad indagare anche la qualità dei processi e degli attori. L'articolo adotta la prospettiva della città come gruppo di regolazione dell'economia, sviluppata a partire dal lavoro da Arnaldo Bagnasco e Patrick Le Galès sulla new political economy delle città. Così osservata la relazione tra università e pratiche di innovazione sociale assume un differente spessore, che ci permette di delineare alcuni apprendimenti e di portare alla luce delle contraddizioni. Il saggio ridimensiona il ruolo dell'università come attore istituzionale ed enfatizza il ruolo degli accademici, che fungono da "agente lievitante" del pluralismo nella governance urbana.

The paper presents a complete study of the work done by Pier Luigi Nervi for the design and construction of a series of concrete hangars between 1935 and 1940. This research is enclosed in the framework of the exhibition entitled "Pier Luigi Nervi, il modello come strumento di progetto e costruzione" that gathers researches from Università degli Studi di Bologna, Università di Roma Tor Vergata and Politecnico di Milano. The exhibition was used as a starting point for a general discussion about the meaning of the logical passage that leads engineers and architects from physical scaled models to numerical structural models. The Politecnico di Milano contributed to re-writing the first experiences of Pier Luigi Nervi and Arturo Danusso in the structural modeling. Scaled models, nowadays substituted by finite element methods, were widely used in the past, for the understanding of the structural behavior of complex structures. Unfortunately, many of these masterpieces have been destroyed during the years (as happened to the two original models tested by Pier Luigi Nervi and reproduced for the exhibition). <br/> In the last part of the paper, based on numerical results, the structural behavior of these hangars is deeply discussed, underlining all the principal strengths and weaknesses of these complex structures.

Ao dividir seu livro em "Ler", "Traduzir" e "Revisar", para ela os principais momentos que fazem da tradução uma arte, a autora discutirá o processo tradutório da narrativa anglófona para o italiano.

Gli autori presentano i risultati più significativi di una ricerca svolta presso le Università di Milano e di Brescia, nell’ambito dei corsi di Restauro architettonico. Fra i principali obiettivi dello studio e delle esperienze didattiche correlate vi è il tentativo non solo di utilizzare le procedure dell’archeologia stratigrafica, per quanto utile e possibile, nella complessa serie di operazioni che segna la redazione di un progetto di conservazione e di riuso, ma di trasferirvi anche quella che si può definire come “mentalità stratigrafica”. In particolare considerando nuovi codici, quali le Interfacce di Fase e le Unità Stratigrafiche Associate. A corredo di queste argomentazioni vengono anche svolte alcune considerazioni in merito al cosiddetto “Restauro archeologico”

This special issue of the Journal for Modeling in Ophthalmology collects, in the form of extended abstracts, contributions presented during the Thematic Symposium on Eye Biomechanics, organized within the VII Annual Meeting of the Italian Chapter of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB-ITA 2017) held on September 28-29, 2017 in Rome, Italy. In this paper preliminary results of the numerical assessment of PAT erosion, caused by the impingement of solid particles in the water flow, are provided and discussed. A CFD model was developed by the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II to investigate the fluid dynamics of a PAT and coupled with the in-house E-CODE developed by the Politecnico di Milano for wear estimation. The erosion simulations were performed to assess the wear of PAT components, namely inlet, impeller, volute and outlet pipe, for abrasive particles with different size, aiming at estimating the relation between the fluid dynamics of the slurry flow and the development of the erosion process.

Настоящая работа является первым общим описанием на русском языке двух некрополей Кампокиаро (Кампобассо, Италия) – Виченне и Морионе, датируемых последней третью VII в. – началом VIII в. Культурное содержание некрополей показывает прочные связи с населением центральноазиатского происхождения. Важнейшим признаком некрополей являются захоронения с конем, соответствующие евразийскому кочевому погребальному обряду. Автор поддержал выводы европейских исследователей о том, что с большой долей вероятности некрополи оставлены булгарами дукса–гаштальда Алзеко, зафиксированными Павлом Диаконом в VIII в. на территориях Бояно, Сепино и Изернии. Аналогии некрополей Кампокиаро с погребениями Аварского каганата показывают присутствие в аварском обществе булгар со схожим погребальным обрядом. Из тысяч погребений с конем, оставленных аварским населением, булгарам могла принадлежать большая часть. Авары и булгары составляли основу и правящую верхушку каганата. Народ Алзеко являлся той частью булгар, которая в 631 г. боролась за каганский престол, что указывает на высокое положение булгар и их большое количество. После поражения эта группа булгар мигрировала последовательно в Баварию, Карантанию и Италию. Несколько десятков лет проживания в венедской, а затем в лангобардской и романской среде привели к гетерогенности погребального инвентаря, но не изменили сам обряд. Булгары лангобардского королевства составляли новый военный слой, который представлял из себя профессиональную кавалерию, получивший землю. The present Special Issue of The Open Civil Engineering Journal collects a selection of extended, reviewed and revised papers presented at the 1st FIMM French-Italian Meeting on Masonry, held in Marseille, France, from 24 to 25 October 2013. The organizers of the meeting were Prof. F. Lebon, Université d'Aix-Marseille Laboratoire de Mécanique et d'Acoustique (FR), and Prof E. Sacco, Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (IT). The main aim was to exchange new ideas and show the state of the art of different research groups active in France and Italy, two countries at the top of the world for the research on masonry. Universities involved were: Université d'Aix-Marseille (FR), Université de Montpellier 2 (FR), Université de Limoges (FR), Politecnico di Milano (IT), Università di Roma la Sapienza (IT), Università di Ferrara (IT), Università di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (IT). A Scopus enquire with keyword “masonry” ordered by country shows 1609 records for Italy and 274 for France, with a percentage contribution respectively of 12.5% and 2.1% on the global scientific production, putting thus in evidence the importance of a tight interaction between French and Italian research groups. After the success of the first edition, the 2nd FIMM French-Italian Meeting on Masonry, will take place in Milan, Italy, from 30 to 31 October 2014. The special issue collects three papers. Fouchal et al. [1] present an evolution of the interface model originally presented by Rekik and Lebon, including cracks and roughness, with a comparison with experimental data on specimens subjected to shear tests. In the second paper, Tralli et al. [2] report a comprehensive state of the art on the cutting edge numerical research devoted to masonry vaults. Finally, Addessi et al. [3] review some advanced homogenization, micro- and macro-modelling strategies suitable for the analysis of masonry in the inelastic range. I wish to thank all the authors for their valuable contributions. All manuscripts underwent technical peer review. I therefore also wish to thank all the reviewers for their critical comments which undoubtedly improved the original technical value of all contributions.

Nelle aule delle Università di Pavia, Milano e Torino che ho frequentato a motivo dei continui spostamenti della mia famiglia ho trascorso e concluso il mio “curriculum” conseguendo la laurea in Medicina nel 1927 e poi la Libera Docenza in Patologia Speciale Medica nel 1931.Nel mio trasferimento a Roma ebbi l'intuizione della Genetica studiando i caratteri somatici di una coppia di gemelli identici osservandone la concordanza contemporanea caratteristica ed in particolare la concordanza anche quantitativa di polimorfismi ematici, in particolare delle frazioni del glutatione ematico. Le concordanze nei gemelli monozigotici mi aprirono la strada alla genetica. Questo avvenne nel 1933.Nel 1938, ebbi occasione di conoscere Madre Luisa Tincani che avendo fondato un Istituto Superiore parificato per religiose si trovava in difficoltà perché avrebbe dovuto rispettare il decreto del Governo fascista sull'insegnamento delle leggi razziali. Ritenni che avrei potuto aggirare l'ostacolo insegnando a quelle religiose le leggi di Mendel che sono il punto di partenza per lo studio di ogni carattere ereditario normale o patologico.Quel mio corso andò benissimo in quanto insegnai non solo le leggi di Mendel ma conobbi la figura di un grande personaggio sacerdote, confessore dei prigionieri nel carcere dello Spielberg e Abate che, nel giardino del convento conduceva le sue esperienze che ebbero come oggetto principale il pisum sativum. cioè il pisello.Mentre andavo approfondendo la mia conoscenza dell'Abate agostiniano Gregorio Mendel mi sorprendevo che a Roma non ci fosse nessuna traccia di lui. Di qui nacque l'idea di creare in Roma un Istituto dedicato alla Genetica che portasse il suo nome anche perché questa scienza aveva, nel frattempo, fatto dei passi giganteschi, per cui progettai di costruire nelle adiacenze della Università “La Sapienza” un Istituto che portasse il nome di Mendel (Fig. 1).

The role of sensory afferent information from the gills of Amia calva in cardiovascular and ventilatory control was investigated by bilateral branchial denervation and pseudobranch ablation. Aquatic hypoxia or 1 mg of sodium cyanide (NaCN) in the water flowing over the gills stimulated bradycardia, and gill and air ventilation in sham-operated fish. Sodium cyanide, noradrenaline (NA) and adrenaline (A) infusion into the dorsal aorta increased gill ventilation, and NA and A infusion also stimulated tachycardia and an increase in blood pressure. Following denervation and pseudobranch ablation, O2 consumption (V·OO2), airbreathing frequency (fAB) and arterial O2 tension (PaOO2) declined, and circulating NA levels increased, as compared with sham-operated fish. Cardiovascular and air-breathing responses to hypoxia were abolished and gill ventilatory responses attenuated. All ventilatory and cardiovascular responses to NaCN were abolished and gill ventilatory responses to NA and A were attenuated in animals following denervation and pseudobranch ablation. These results demonstrate that O2-sensitive chemoreceptors in the gills and pseudobranch control reflex bradycardia and air-breathing responses in Amia, but that gill ventilatory responses to hypoxia, NA and A are partially mediated by extrabranchial mechanisms. Plasma NA levels increased during hypoxia in shamoperated and denervated animals, indicating that circulating NA may have mediated gill ventilatory responses in denervated animals.

Abstracttitle RIASSUNTO /title Nel novembre 1769 R. J. Boscovich venne chiamato da Pavia ad insegnare Astronomia e Ottica presso le scuole Palatine di Milano. Nel periodo 1769-1771 egli intensific la sua attivit di ricerca nel campo dell'astronomia e dell'ottica all'Osservatorio di Brera da lui progettato. Sulla fine del 1771 il governo di Vienna, nell'ambito del piano di ristrutturazione dell'insegnamento universitario a Pavia e a ?CTRLerr type="1" mess="Doute Cars isoles avec recollage" ?Milano avanz alcune osservazioni riguardo il funzionamento dell'Osservatorio di Brera. Tali osservazioni suscitarono non poca perplessit, in particolare in Jerome Lalande, assiduo corrispondente del Boscovich. Boscovich rispose a queste osservazioni con un lungo memoriale rimasto praticamente ignoto sino al 1927. La Risposta del Boscovich al Principe Kaunitz costituisce un documento importante per le informazioni sull'attivit svolta dal Boscovich e dagli astronomi della Specola di Brera in un momento particolarmente significativo per la storia di questa istituzione. Viene presentata una nuova edizione critica della Risposta corredata da ampi commenti e annotazioni.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Within the "Tarquinia Project" and the “Centro di Ricerca Coordinato”, involving different groups of the Università degli Studi di Milano (Archaeology, Computer Science and Communication, Geoarchaeology, Palaeoanthropology) and the Politecnico di Milano (Architecture and Conservation of Cultural Heritage), the carried out activities were aimed at defining the best methodologies for the documentation, analysis, study and conservation of the archaeological remains in the territory of Tarquinia. Within this broad framework, from 2010 the two research groups focused their efforts in the identification of the entire route of the ancient Tarquinia wall circuit and the archaeological structures it contains in order to create thematic maps of the archaeological remains of the “Pianoro della Civita”. The performed work examined the available historical documentation, proceeding in an extensive analysis of the marks that characterized the area. Given the complex morphology of the area, the ancient presence of the sites spread over fourteen centuries and the dense vegetation characterizing the slopes, in order to investigate the archaeological objects a laser scanner survey using LiDAR technology (Light Detection and Ranging) of the entire territory was performed. Through this system it was possible to carry out detailed geoarchaeological analysis, due the numerous phenomena of instability and runoff affecting the surfaces of the inhabited area and also involving the construction of the city wall circuit. These investigations, together with what emerges from the interpretation of the cartographies and the history of the archaeological analysis, made it possible to evaluate and verify the archaeological remains, contributing to the creation of the thematic maps of the ancient Tarquinian city walls.</p>

RESUMENLa historia del cristianismo no se entiende sin el complejo fenómeno mariano. El culto mariano ha afianzado la construcción de identidades colectivas, pero también individuales. La figura de la Virgen María estableció un modelo de conducta desde cada contexto histórico-cultural, remarcando especialmente los ideales de maternidad y virginidad. Dentro del imaginario católico, la Europa contemporánea ha estado marcada por la formación de una cultura aparicionista que se ha generadoa partir de diversas apariciones marianas que han establecido un canon y un marco de interpretación que ha alimentado las guerras culturales entre secularismo y catolicismo.PALABRAS CLAVE: catolicismo, Virgen María, cultura aparicionista, Lourdes, guerras culturales.ABSTRACTThe history of Christianity cannot be understood without the complex Marian phenomenon. Marian devotion has reinforced the construction of collective, but also of individual identities. The figure of the Virgin Mary established a model of conduct through each historical-cultural context, emphasizing in particular the ideals of maternity and virginity. Within the Catholic imaginary, contemporary Europe has been marked by the formation of an apparitionist culture generated by various Marian apparitions that have established a canon and a framework of interpretation that has fuelled the cultural wars between secularism and Catholicism.KEY WORDS: Catholicism, Virgin Mary, apparicionist culture, Lourdes, culture wars. Nuove sfide competitive richiedono di prestare una particolare attenzione alla modalitÀ con cui sviluppare l'innovazione. A tal fine, per realizzare il trasferimento tecnologico, si determina sempre piů l'affermarsi di relazioni collaborative tra imprese, universitÀ, istituzioni pubbliche. L'autore sostiene che tali relazioni possono essere supportate e facilitate dai Parchi Scientifici Tecnologici (PST). L'autore analizza quindi due PST, benchmarks nel contesto italiano e internazionale, indagando relativi progetti di R&S. L'analisi porta a sostenere che i PST possono contribuire in modo efficace allo sviluppo dell'innovazione se in grado di promuovere lo sviluppo di una rete non solo di insediati caratterizzati da una prossimitÀ geo-spaziale bensě di un network caratterizzato da una prossimitÀ spazio-relazionale.

On July 2016, Ana Tostões interviewed the architect Gonçalo Byrne who has been deeply reflecting, writing and interviewing in the city through projects of reference, in order to broadly understand the evolution of the city, with an emphasis on the modernity of the 1758 Baixa Pombalina Plan, and its contemporary and future potential, grounded in its roots. Gonçalo Byrne was born in 1941, Alcobaça, studied architecture at the Lisbon School of Fine Art (1968) and is Doctor Honoris Causa (2005) from the Technical University of Lisbon and the University of Alghero. He has been professor in several universities such as the University of Navarra, the University of Alghero, the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the École Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, the Università IUAV di Venezia, the Harvard University, the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Coimbra. He is the principal of Gonçalo Byrne Arquitectos, in Lisbon, with an extensive work both in terms of scale, program and context, including urban planning and building design, urban renewal and project management such as the renewal of the Bank of Portugal headquarters (with João Pedro Falcão de Campos), the renewal of the Thalia Theatre in Lisbon (with Barbas Lopes Arquitectos), the renewal of the Machado de Castro National Museum in Coimbra, the renewal of the Trancoso Castel and the renewal of the Santa Maria Abbey surroundings in Alcobaça. He has received the AICA Award (1988), the Valmor Award (2000), the Gold Medal from the France’s Académie d’architecture Française (2000) and the Piranesi Prix de Rome (2014).

Abstract This study aims to determine the untargeted lipidome of cow milk during non-staphylococcal sub-clinical mastitis. Dairy cow mastitis severely impacts the dairy industry by reducing milk yield and quality and increasing culling rate. Among the pathogens that cause bovine sub-clinical mastitis, non-aureus staphylococci (NAS) have become the most frequently isolated bacteria from milk samples. The molecular mechanisms regulating the mammary gland inflammatory responses to NAS are unclear. Although the application of system biology approaches to mastitis has provided pivotal information by investigating the transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome, the milk lipidome remains undisclosed. We determined the lipidome of 17 dairy cows with NAS sub-clinical mastitis (SM) and we compared the results with the lipidome of the milk of 13 healthy cows. The study was carried out following a liquid chromatography–quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) approach. Sixteen subclasses of lipids were identified in both groups of animals. From 2,506 measured lipids, 631 were significantly changed more than 10 folds (FDR &lt; 0.01 in milk from cows with mastitis as compared to healthy cows. Our results point out the significant influence of NAS on the milk lipidome, contribute to the understanding of inflammatory processes in the bovine udder, and highlight potential novel biomarkers for improving mastitis diagnosis. Part of this work was carried out in “OMICs”, an advanced mass spectrometry platform established by the Università degli Studi di Milano.
