Full textThe question of the representation of visible minorities on the television is extremely topical today and has been the subject of many debates over several years. The term "visible minorities" denotes "ethnic minorities of non-european origin, whose physical appareance, different from the French white majority, makes them visible". It refers particulary to Blacks, Asians, Indo-Pakistani type people and Arabs (or North African or Arab type people). Television is undeniably a mass communication tool which contributes, to a certain degree, to shaping mentalities, forging social viewpoints and constructing identities. However it does not always offer a representative picture, in other words diversified, of society. It is often accused of being made without a large part of the population, notably the visible minorities, who findthemselves marginalized, strigmatized, or deprived of social importance liked to their portrayal in the media. We have examined the role of television in the promotion of ethnic diversity as well as the question of the representation of visible minorities on the screen and of their recognition in public life. It concerns precisely the way in which these minorities are "staged" and represented in different television programs (TV Series, new broadcasts, documentaries, adversiting, game shows, political debates, etc. ). The represnetation of visible minorities and their recognition in public life thus constitue a major issue today

Full textWorked by history, shaped by the ideological structures that give it a particular anthropological definition, often Manichean, the concept of Black is strongly connoted. Reified by millennia stereotype’s, which essentializing her in a pejorative anaphoric foreclosure, the answers critical provided, beyond the disciplines, have themselves often repeated these procedures that limit the expression of Black in a victimhood posture which, by inversion, him denies the all of his humanity. Being extraordinary and potentially likely to win his freedom, the Black, like other human, does not escape the banality of bias and other dogmatic thoughts that justify the filthy reality of the human beast. This thesis, based on observations whose issues are at the same time looking to the future, proposes an inaugural approach which brings the Black to its first linguistic reality, Being speeches that, always is said especially, certainly by the Other, but also by oneself. The metamorphoses of Black thus are observed, in light of the media, in their particular articulation that's Television, under the dynamic of a transverse Semiotic that the contractual trial of identities, which is also the trial of speech and society, finds its legitimacy in the analog shift of corpus constituted, the Quebec defining the actual analysis context, while the French side is technically deferred according to the principles of comparison thereby prospective. Traditional structures from black, says in the comforts of victimary postures univocally that make it not feeling often guilty, are then overwhelmed, exasperated by a prospective paradigms of a method which restores her what he has never ceased to be : a Being of language, which is also a Being of speeches, So the expression of acts communication. The notion of racism is then deconstructed in his classic statement, the Black constituting the semiotic indicator of social states, of interethnic relations, of political of struggle against discriminations, specific mutations of language and identities in presence, at the same time as metamorphic procedures of their media impact

Full textThis study outlines the competitive narratives of the 1912-1913 Balkan wars inside the French media landscape (national liberation/unification wars, new crusade, just war, versus illegitimate conquest war, new colonialist expedition, pacifist settlement versus militarist rhetoric, nationalist approaches versus federalist proposals). It is also a schematization essay of the different factors-parameters and their interactions, (personal affinities, ideological orientations, economical interests, geopolitical considerations, media coverage, representation of the Self and the Other, the Here and Elsewhere, the Past, the Present and the Future) intervening in one’s conflict perception on behalf of a phenomenally external society to its unfolding. It also informs us about journalistic practices and the media’s public tastes stretching the rising importance of war reporters and the demand for a sensational, direct and omniscient news coverage. It also explores the place of Balkan people, Balkans’ history and geography, in the imagination of French Belle Époque, as well as the way Balkan wars had been invited within French political, economical and socio-cultural life at the eve of the Great War. Finally, it questions the role of belligerents’ propagandas in the newspapers’ transformation at a media and representational battlefield between the actors directly concerned by the conflict and the external observers expressing themselves in French media, having as major stake the definition of a political and axiological European entity
Bertino, Francesca. "La naissance du racisme d’État dans l’Italie coloniale." Thesis, Paris 10, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA100152/document.
Full textIn Italy, the reflection on racism, race and their role in the national history is frequently relegated to the speeches and to the practices which characterized the fascist period. Many grey areas persist on the one hand about the relationships that the humanities, the sciences and the political speech maintained with the race and the racism throughout the national history, and on the other hand, about the links between the colonial dimension and the metropolitan dimension. We chose to examine the emergence of the speech on race and the functions which it performed in a determined domain, that of legal-politics and in two precise geographical areas, south Italy and the colony, during the Italian liberal period. It’s a reconstruction which has for objective the understanding of the complex relationships which liberal Italy maintained with the difference and with the speeches on this one. Our objective is to reveal the underlying rationality to the racist practices, the horizon between which they find their own possibility of emergence and, simultaneously, their own justification: in other words, the speech which is underlying in their implementation. At the end of our study, we can assert that the modern speech on race and the practices comparable to what we called a state racism are present in Italy during the liberal period, as well if we consider the South of the peninsula, that if we are interested on the beginnings of the colonization. The Eurocentric perspective of the knowledge and the colonial relations of domination, supported by the elaboration of the modern idea of race as principle of naturalization of the same relations, did not produce their effects only in the margins and did not limit themselves to the relations between Europeans and non-Europeans, but, on the contrary, they also invested the knowledge and the territories which were in the centre. The South of Italy, in this perspective, seems to us to be a paradigmatic example of these dynamics

Full textWith different historical contexts and migration temporalities, France and the region of Catalogna in Spain apply relatively opposing policies concerning specificities. This PhD thesis focuses more specifically on the effects of the ethno-racialization of the European populations on the relations between people in mixed medium sized cities. In the two studied countries, we can witness a certain homogenization in the everyday practice of ethnicity of the inhabitants. The ethno-racialization contributes to the reconfiguration the urban spaces of medium-size cities, in particular through the establishment of minority centralities. But the urban areas speed up the intertwining of ethnic and racializing logics. These are spaces of self-segregation, invested by population from the Maghreb and it materializes a visible border between the groups within the city. Also subject to stigmatization and bypasses, the minority centralities have become places of ethnoracial tensions in the city. This creates urban insecurities which favours the process of ethno-racial differentiation as well as assimilating them to minorities. The stereotypes about people of Maghrebian origins are thus created through urban experience, History and the national scope, and the more global context : we can witness the common adoption of the use of ethno-racial markers, behind the rhetoric of civilizations. The fear of ethnoracial differences then justifies the normalization and banalization of racism and to escape these designations, the minorities use a numbers of strategies to surpass themselves and to resist the stigmatization

Full text"born" in 1842 with les mysteres de paris, french popular novels experience quickly great success which reaches its very peack point during the third republic. French popular novelists highlight a racist and nationalist ideology. Characters behaviours, such as drinking and eating, or love, family, work, money and religion themes, are revealing to that respect. They always draw opposite features : "good" people (usually they are french) versus "bad" people - most of them are foreigners. The way they stand together highlight discrepancies between two worlds. Obsessed with plot, the novelists prove to belong to a narrow and anxious nationalism. Mourning the lost in 1870 of alsace and lorraine, french popular novels show warlike pulsions which generate a particular novel type, called "roman revanchard" (novels of revenge). The celebration of colonialism has twofold sides, as though it were emphasized to make up for the french inferior colonial stand. Jealousy to england appears quickly even though novelists often depicts typical french republican ideas. A people (one says then: "races") typology soon originates, which is closely tied to the diplomatic period unions. Russians are friends but italians and germans become allies - against french people. Races, exotism or the "savage" character highlight the way french popular novelists took bias in order to use them as the period stereotypes. So that they created a catchy propaganda serving racist and nationalist ideas

Full textIn this thesis called "chinese media in the world". Mrs liao gives us a general description of media in red china and in geographic zones where we may find a chinese diaspora. First of all, mrs liao shows that television has became a massmedia because 800 millions people watch in spite of a real mediocity of its programs. As to the radio, this media is both very common and regionalised and it has been the main factor of the unification of china. Concerning the written press, it has to face the concurence of foreign papers because it has definitively lost. Its image, being a plain propaganda instrument for the c. C. P. Concerning taiwan, hong kong, macao and singapore ad all the chinese media in the other parts of the world, mrs liao writes an analysis which consists a very pragmatic description of quantitative and qualitative factors as : number of titles, number of readers, audience, explained opinions, maintenance of lectorate, radio and television programs. . . Full textThis work consists in studying the linguistic defreezing phenomenon. We establish three typologies of studying cases chosen from the French satirical weekly newspaper "Le Canard enchaîné". The typologies are made in three parts. The first typology is of structuralism, the second one consists in classifying the defreezing cases by transformations, the last one is a typology of three primary functions of predication. In doing so, we propose different linguistic approaches in treating the problematical defreezing phenomenon, which causes problems in teaching, comprehension and computational linguistic treatment in French

Full textThis thesis analyzes what remains constant and what changes in the image of Syria in the French media between the 18th century and the year 2000. This image divides in two: on the one hand, a mythic “imaginary” in literature and, on the other, a mediatized image in the print and visual press. The so-called mediatized image centers on a repressive representation of Syria under French mandate in L'Humanite and Le Figaro in 1939, date at which the sandjak of Alexandrette ceased in Turkey. Then the thesis traces the evolution of this image through the study of the cultural image of Syria in the newspaper Le Monde between 1987 and 1999. The end point of my work on the mediatized image consists of a study of the visual image or Syria on the channel Arte between 1996 and 2000. To conclude this thesis, I study the literary mythic image of Syria and the Arab world in Volney, “Voyage en Syrie et en Egypte,” Maupassant in “Allouma” and Le Clezio in “Poisson d'Or. ”
M'Hamsadji, Takia. "L'image de l'Orient arabe dans les médias américains." Paris 7, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987PA070177.
Full textThe aim of this study is to determine the characteristics of the arab stereotype in the american media and its development since the creation of the state of israel in particular. The negative image of the arab world is presented here as the inheritance of orientalism and european colonialism combined with a historical context. The arab-israeli conflict and the oil embargo have brought about a series of "misunderstandings" that strenghened the old fear of islam. The technological advance and the reign of the elctronic era have promoted the propagation of the myth of the orient and enforced an erroneous aspect of the arab civilization and history. Beyond the fixed stage of categorization and prevailing ideology, a new journalism and an awakening of the american public opinion in relation to the american policy towards the middle east have emerged since the 1970, s. This new approach is linked to a better understanding of economic and cultural interdependence between the arab nations and the united states, and to the work of a better organized arab lobby eager to cope with its jewish counterpart. The arab governments and the arab americans have set up a solid organizational structure with thye object of locating and demolishing the arab negative stereotype through an active policy of information on the arab world and an exhaustive use of teh american media. The economic prosperity of the arab orient has allowed a greater pressure to be exerted on the western countries. . .

The research has been done because of the small knowledge of the architectural vocabulary and the lack of understanding of the significance of architecture by most people. By working around thrée principal types of medias : text supports (books, magaznies and e-books), audiovisuals (the radio, the television and the cinema) and the interactif medias (networks, CD-Roms and interactif points) the presence of the subject "architecture " is analyzed in a vast corpus. A close look at the educational role that the medias should play is done by running an analysis of the sort and the amount of architectural knowledge that is transmitted and the advantages and inconvenients of the informationnal supports used

Full textThis thesis is a study of three major Australian newspapers (The Australian, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald) over a ten year period. Focusing on three important issues for the relationship between Aborigines and non Aborigines (the stolen generations, land rights and reconciliation) this thesis analyses how the three newspapers present the Aborigines, what role they are being given in the nation by these newspapers and what image of the Aborigines do they build. This in order to find out if their techniques contribute to perpetrate a certain form of oppression of the Aborigines, and to what extent. Our research suggests that Australia's painful past regarding the encounter between Aborigines and non Aborigines, with the frontier wars, the dispossession and the stolen children, influences to different extents the way in which the three newspapers of our research write about Aborigines. The tendency to make their interest come last, to present them as enemies of the nation or as a threat to its stability, the tendency to imprison them in an image that has not changed since the 19th and 20th centuries and not give them the opportunity to express themselves on issues concerning them or their own image, are elements pointing to a certain form of oppression that stops Aborigines from taking an equal place to that of the other Australians in the contemporary Australian society. In this sense, this research contributes to the study of media and its ways of functioning as well as to the study of Australian history, society and politics

The participants commented and rated these recordings. Non-interpreters’ comments tend to show that the interpretation “works”, i.e. it seems to carry the speaker’s message across and does not constitute an obstacle. Comments tend to focus on form rather than content. Non-interpreters seem to pay attention to quality parameters which already feature in the literature (in particular intonation and fluidity) but also to some (supra)parameters which have rarely been studied so far: the balance between the sound levels of the original speech and its interpretation; the way the speaker is portrayed through the interpretation; and the way emotion in the source speech is conveyed in the interpretation. None of the individual parameters identified in the present study turned out to have a clear-cut, major influence on overall quality assessment. The present thesis studies not only individual quality parameters but also interactions between them. In particular, perceptions of form and content seem to be closely linked, and listeners’ trust seems to be determined by a number of both form- and content-related parameters. Some differences between the two groups of participants emerge. Interpreters seem more sensitive to wording. False errors were flagged up only by non-interpreters. Non-interpreters seem to listen to the speaker’s message first and foremost; their reactions to the interpretation itself tend to come later, if at all

Full textFluctuating along user connections, some content succeeds at capturing the attention of a large amount of users and suddenly becomes trending. Understanding trending content and its dynamics is crucial to the explanation of opinion spreading, and to the design of social marketing strategies. While previous research has mostly focused on trending content and on the network structure of individuals in social media, this work complements these studies by exploring in depth the human factors behind the generation of this content. We build upon this analysis to investigate new personalization tools helping individuals to discover interesting social media content. This work contributes to the literature on the following aspects: an in depth analysis on individuals who create trending content in social media that uncovers their distinguishing characteristics; a novel means to identify trending content by relying on the ability of special individuals who create them; a mechanism to build a recommender system to personalize trending content; and techniques to improve the quality of recommendations beyond the core theme of accuracy. Our studies underline the vital role of special users in the creation of trending content in social media. Thanks to such special users and their ``wisdom'', individuals may discover the trending content distilled to their tastes. Our work brings insights in two main research directions - trending content in social media and recommender systems

Full textThe ease of publishing content on social media sites brings to the Web an ever increasing amount of user generated content captured during, and associated with, real life events. Social media documents shared by users often reflect their personal experience of the event. Hence, an event can be seen as a set of personal and local views, recorded by different users. These event records are likely to exhibit similar facets of the event but also specific aspects. By linking different records of the same event occurrence we can enable rich search and browsing of social media events content. Specifically, linking all the occurrences of the same event would provide a general overview of the event. In this dissertation we present a content-based approach for leveraging the wealth of social media documents available on the Web for event identification and characterization. To match event occurrences in social media, we develop a new visual-based method for retrieving events in huge photocollections, typically in the context of User Generated Content. The main contributions of the thesis are the following : (1) a new visual-based method for retrieving events in photo collections, (2) a scalable and distributed framework for Nearest Neighbors Graph construction for high dimensional data, (3) a collaborative content-based filtering technique for selecting relevant social media documents for a given event

Full textAssuming on the fact that the analysis of the interactions between social movements and media, however essential to the comprehension of the processes of social problems construction, was until now a peripheral object of interest, this work proposes to deal with these problems starting from the study of the relations between “low resources groups” and TV journalists. On the basis of pluri-methodological and comparative ground investigations, this dissertation proposes to question the forms of mediatic politisation or depolitization of the homeless persons, the illegals immigrants and the unemployed people causes, in the context of the neoliberal and repressive evolutions of the Welfare state. While applying from a critical point of view the framing analysis perspective, this research opens with a range of topics returning as well to the contemporary transformations of the practices of journalism or the militancy as to the effects of media information on the audience

Full textThe multiculturalism which characterises Lebanese advertising in the written press, is a mixture of Lebanese identity (innately Arabic) with distinctive western influences. This advertising conveys symbols belonging to Lebanese culture as well as those understood worlwide. The usage is mainly French, to a lesser extent English and rather less Arabic. It therefore mirrors the multilingual capability of Lebanese citizens. In eliminating social, cultural and religious differences, it reflects an image solely of an upper class. It displays a westernised style of living as much as a Lebanese one, while showing characters and settings with specific Lebanese reference. Given the particular wording of lebanese advertisements, a dialectic is established between that language and the universal language used for publicity

The use of phrasemes is text-sort specific and provides added thematic reference to the relevant topic under discussion. In television journalism, the bilingual, French-German public affairs program Arte-Info is exceptional due to a particular feature of its journalistic format. Individual images are accompanied by to sound and, above all, linguistic tracks. Given this bilingual quality, variuos issues related to the program's inter-lingual format arise (translation and interpreting procedure, source and target language, orientation toward two linguistic communities, etc. ). What effects do these factors have on the production of the linguistic discourse? This study has been organized according to three parameters of analysis: parameter one concerns the specifics of the various sorts of texts; parameter two is addressed to the framing context of the entire discourse; the third parameter deals with the specifics of thematic reference

Full textThis thesis studies the discourses and the strategies of the media when reporting armed conflicts. The comparison between the Israeli-Palistinian and the Northern-Irish conflicts enable us to analyze the nature of the discourses produced by the political actors and by the media, and to foresee their potential evolution with the development of the internet. In situations of armed crisis, State and media logics tend to tighten in the name of a democratic consensus against the authors of the violence. However, the media representations sometimes get loose from the official discourse of the State, in order to keep the freedom of information. This alternative must be rethought with the broadening of the use of the internet by various actors of the conflicts. The specificity of its technical device invites the actors of the conflicts to seize this media in discursive logics, if not new, at least different from those of the traditional media. The hypertextual and multimodal nature of the discourses which the political actors offer on internet thus implies to rethink the discursive strategies, traditionally in work, and the connections between media and actors in the situations of conflict

However, to the defender of neo-liberalism, there is still one last goal : to get public opinion to endorse neo-liberalism as well. The general media, which is able to influence our perceptions and our preferences, can play an important role in that respect. The goal of this thesis is to help in the understanding of the information diffusion phenomenon in social media by providing means of modeling and analysis.First, we propose MABED (Mention-Anomaly-Based Event Detection), a statistical method for automatically detecting events that most interest social media users from the stream of messages they publish. In contrast with existing methods, it doesn't only focus on the textual content of messages but also leverages the frequency of social interactions that occur between users. MABED also differs from the literature in that it dynamically estimates the period of time during which each event is discussed rather than assuming a predefined fixed duration for all events. Secondly, we propose T-BASIC (Time-Based ASynchronous Independent Cascades), a probabilistic model based on the network structure underlying social media for predicting information diffusion, more specifically the evolution of the number of users that relay a given piece of information through time. In contrast with similar models that are also based on the network structure, the probability that a piece of information propagate from one user to another isn't fixed but depends on time. We also describe a procedure for inferring the latent parameters of that model, which we formulate as functions of observable characteristics of social media users. Thirdly, we propose SONDY (SOcial Network DYnamics), a free and extensible software that implements state-of-the-art methods for mining data generated by social media, i.e. the messages published by users and the structure of the social network that interconnects them. As opposed to existing academic tools that either focus on analyzing messages or analyzing the network, SONDY permits the joint analysis of these two types of data through the analysis of influence with respect to each detected event. The experiments, conducted on data collected on Twitter, demonstrate the relevance of our proposals and shed light on some properties that give us a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying information diffusion. First, we compare the performance of MABED against those of methods from the literature and find that taking into account the frequency of social interactions between users leads to more accurate event detection and improved robustness in presence of noisy content. We also show that MABED helps with the interpretation of detected events by providing clearer textual description and more precise temporal descriptions. Secondly, we demonstrate the relevancy of the procedure we propose for estimating the pairwise diffusion probabilities on which T-BASIC relies. For that, we illustrate the predictive power of users' characteristics, and compare the performance of the method we propose to estimate the diffusion probabilities against those of state-of-the-art methods. We show the importance of having non-constant diffusion probabilities, which allows incorporating the variation of users' level of receptivity through time into T-BASIC. We also study how -- and in which proportion -- the social, topical and temporal characteristics of users impact information diffusion. Thirdly, we illustrate with various scenarios the usefulness of SONDY, both for non-experts -- thanks to its advanced user interface and adapted visualizations -- and for researchers -- thanks to its application programming interface

Full textWe will try all along this thesis to lift the veil on the vague aspects of a complex industry: medias, in a country with an even more complex political and economic environment: China. After defining de concept of media convergence, we will see what are its different forms in the Middle Kingdom in comparison with Western countries. We will explain the reasons why China is naturally taking its own path and not necessarily following the Western models, especially in the media industry. We will then show how the convergence influences one industry in particular: the film industry; how all the links of the value chain from investment to production and distribution are affected by the constant evolution of the new media technologies and how they merge with each other. By reviewing the different laws and other instructions that are supposed to rule the film media industry, but also by analyzing the complex flows between China and the rest of the world that the government tries to control, we will show how much is at stake in this huge market. We will present the main actors of this convergence in China comparing them particularly with the American giant Netflix. How these internet giants transform today’s film industry? This is the question we will try to answer all along this research

Full textThe technical progress, the development of the broadcast satellite, the increase of the cross-border channels, and other distribution channels as internet carry the expanding of the international distribution of information. We can note the coming of the globalisation of the media. The main problem is not the increase of information, but to realise and admit that those industries of communication manage the vision of the world and can not be separate of a reflexion about the way they are received. The control of this ideogical machenery made up by the media have a political effect. The resolution of wars and conflicts depends more than never on information and communication control. The media becomes a real actor of the international relation. Our study deals mainly about the gulf war in 1991 which should leads us to a deep relexion on what was previously considered

Full textThe problem of the fate of the Jews in Italy is doubtless one of the most tragic aspects of the fascist totalitarianism. Since about twenty years, anti-Semitic historiography has greatly expanded, focusing on progressively more to the specific characteristics of Italian fascism. The study undertaken in this thesis is placed in a context of political and cultural history, since it will be to update, through the study of propaganda, the characteristics of Italian fascism to understand the nature and function of racism and anti-Semitism in Italy. The main sources on which to base our research are three national daily newspapers published in Milan. Of their celebrity, but also their daily commitment to represent the Jews and the colonized peoples as a stereotypical reality and despicable, they were at the forefront of the dynamics of persecution. Racial doctrine laboratory, teaching manual, field of investigation on the presence of Jews in Italy, train of the police administration, they have greatly contributed to the development of a culture of racism and anti-Semite who relaunched the debate on values of national identity

Full textIn the recent years, the audiovisual sector has seen a signifiant evolvement and development in the states members of OCDE. This expansion has been accompanied by development of the private audiovisual sector and a correlating unprecedented merger movement in the media sector both in Europe and the United-States. Faced with this movement, most of the democratic states are concerned as to the high level of integration of such a special sector. Consequently, by its potential negative impact on pluralism (and even to the democracy itself), they have tried to limit risks against pluralism. The methods used by these states have mainly focused on competition law and media law. Whether media law provisions, especially audiovisual communication law provisions, are effective tools sufficient to ensure pluralism, would not seem to be the case. Moreover, with technological changes in progress, we may wonder if the media sector should not merely and purely be subject to antitrust law, which is becoming more predominant in the media sector

Full textIn our study we survey Al Jazeera arabic news television and its relationship with the Qatari Government, which finances it. Our problem is to prove “to what extent Al Jazeera has introduced Qatar on the international scene, and in this situation can this channel still be objective?” In this regard, we have double goals: The first one consists to demonstrate that Al Jazeera was a part of the qatari audiovisual strategy. The second is to explain the convergence between the editorial line of Al Jazeera and the qatari policy. In this thesis, we illustrate the coexistence between editorial independence and economic dependence, while Qatar supports the auto-financing of Al Jazeera. Certainly, the Qatari channel is not independent but has a large margin of freedom. The Qatari interference in Al Jazeera passes through the chairman of the channel, who is a member of the ruling family. The actors of Al Jazeera estimate their interventions as a professional supervision. We consider that Al Jazeera fight to preserve the profession of journalism with its perception of the “Original Journalism”. This research implies the relationship between the news and the history, explaining that the content of the Al Jazeera broadcasting was a strategic way for Qatar to balance its media strengths with the United States. It describes that the programs of Al Jazeera reflect the qatari views within a limit of objectivity and professionalism

Full textThis doctoral dissertation discusses the formation of subjects and identities (individual and collective) in a 20th century French colonial and post-colonial context, in which race and color of skin are structural markers on Consciousness, Otherness and of social relations. The analysis of the "Black Question", specifically in the French context, requires a plurality of appropriate methodological approaches, rince it rests on ambivalen semantic and lexical universes as shown by the use of terms such as "race" and "identity". The challenge here is to comprehend, from a political, cultural, epistemological and phenomenological perspective, the historical formation of racial categories as well as the social and political structure that allows us to think of the mode of domination as reflected by the above question

Full textThis doctoral thesis provides an examination of the emergence and the institutionalization of an activist expertise on Twitter by the CLAC (Convergence des Luttes Anticapitalistes) and an investigation of the group social and intertextual processing with alternative and global media during the G20 in Toronto (2010) and the Quebecer Student strike (2012). Mixed methods and online exploration are used to build a transformative integrative multidimensional methodology for analysing web hypertextual practices. This research strategy allows for the observation, analysis and interpretation of peer groups mediated practices and enables to formulate research recommendations for methodologies exploring the complexity of new media convergence (Castells, 1998, 1999, 2001; Jenkins, 2006) and the formation of ad hoc publics during political crisis (Bruns, 2007 ; Bruns et al., 2010). Under the theoretical and conceptual position of expertise, activism and hypertext, specific forms of activist communication in micro-media, influence and power dynamics in local public sphere and new modes of contagion of local information on public deliberation main themes and practices (Habermas, 1978, 1987) will be explored. Finally, advantages and limits of the mixed methods approach and directions for future research are discussed.
