Licensed mariners carried out two simulated navigation studies testing electronic chart and information display systems (ECDIS) against paper chart navigation. In the first study, six mariners each completed approaches to Halifax, Nova Scotia, harbour with good and bad visibility and a range of wind and currents. Conditions included chart with radar, ECDIS with radar overlay and ECDIS with separate radar. ECDIS produced better performance and a smaller workload than paper charts and the radar overlay was slightly better than the separate radar display. In the second study, six new mariners com

This article introduces a way of seeing miscue analysis data through a spider chart, a readily available digital graphing tool that provides an effective way to visually represent readers’ complex coordination of interrelated cueing systems. A spider chart is a standard feature in recent spreadsheet software that puts a new spin on miscue analysis by quickly generating visual displays of children’s documented reading processes. Also known as radar charts, spider charts show webs that point to the apparent strategies that readers are using, providing a way to quickly visualize how well readers

The algorithm uses statistical and polarimetric properties of the backscattered radar signals to segment the SAR image into a specified number of classes. This number was determined in advance from visual inspection of the SAR image and by available in-situ measurements. The segmentation result was then compared to ice charts drawn by ice service analysts. The comparison revealed big discrepancies between the charts of the analys

The signal processing task for radar systems with large instantaneous bandwidth and wide range coverage stresses the throughput rate of conventional digital processors. In this paper, a hybrid analog signal processor for wideband pulse-Doppler radar1 is described. It offers the potential of a compact, high-throughput processor. In the processor, three types of analog signal processing devices are incorporated. They are: (1) a surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) convolver2 to perform programmable pulse compression for radar signals with 200-MHz instantaneous bandwidth in order to provide target range i

Abstract:
Abstract The description of pressure equipment accidents has always been expressed in large paragraphs. It was difficult for readers to grasp the contents of the whole accident and analyze the objective laws of the accident. The representation method based on chart can show the accident context of pressure equipment intuitively and clearly, so that readers can quickly grasp the causes and consequences and development law of the accident. In this paper, the research framework of pressure equipment accident characterization method was established. Three characterization methods: fault tree, fish
