Abstract:
Abstract The zwitterionic radicals HO-ĊH-CH(COO-)NH3+ (4a) and HO-Ċ(CH3)-CH(COO-)NH3+ (4b) are the main species produced upon OH· radical attack in aqueous solutions at pH 3-7 at the amino acids serine, HO-CH2-CH(COO-)NH3+, or threonine, HO-CH(CH3)-CH(COO-)NH3+, respectively. Both radicals undergo elimination of NH4+ ion to form the radicals O=CH-ĊH-COO- (7) or CH3-CO-ĊH-COO- (9) respectively. The pKa of the serine-derived cationic radical HO-ĊH-CH(COOH)NH3+ (3a) (3a ⇄ 4a + H+), was determined by ESR spectroscopy to 2.2 ± 0.1 at 276 K. This research presents traditional cultural heritage (CH) as a dynamic social process – a positive feedback loop enhancing cultural identity and institutional authority through a contested authoritative inclusion of the ‘objects' it comprises. It then focuses on one part of that process, the individuals' construction of their CH, and defines CH as the ‘transgenerational component of identity’. Research is cited to support a postmodernist and radical constructivist perspective of CH and to show how this definition evolves from such a perspective. This study qualitatively tests this perspective

This chapter argues that poverty is created, maintained, and regulated. Global poverty occupies a unique position as both the ‘blind spot’ and raison d’être of an international legal system that has long attempted to secure a veneer of cooperation, justice, and legitimacy over a reality of competition, conquest, and exploitation. As such, it vividly illustrates the radical indeterminacy and ‘schizophrenia ‘ that ‘ tear[s]‌ apart the fragile structure’ of international law. This chapter argues that the ‘moderate’ and ‘radical’ versions of constructivism differ in their very understanding of the politics of international law and thus the way they connect to international legal theory (ILT). The moderate version is formed as an attempt to marry sociological institutionalism with (what this version perceives to be) critical theory. The research of moderate constructivists is driven by a functionalist understanding of international law, in which law helps to secure normative progress. This leads moderate constructivists to make visible the force of law through states

Increasingly stringent regulations on emissions in the gas turbine industry require novel designs to minimize the environmental impact of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). The development of advanced low-NOx technologies depends on accurate and reliable thermochemical mechanisms to achieve emissions targets. However, current combustion models have high levels of uncertainty in kinetic rates that, when propagated through calculations, yield significant variations in predictions. A recent study identified and optimized nine elementary reactions involved in CH formation to accurately capture its concentr

Low laminar burning velocity’s and slow reactions propagation are among a key problem in combustion processes with low calorific gas mixtures. The mixtures have a laminar burning velocity of 10 cm/s to 15 cm/s or even below which is 37% of natural gas. Thermal use of these gases could save considerable amounts of fossil fuel and reduce CO2 emissions. Due to low burning velocities and low enthalpy of combustion, ignition and stable combustion is complex, often preventing utilization of these gases. Microwave-assisted combustion can help to solve these problems. With microwave assistance, these

The use of commercial hydrous ethanol reduces the energy cost of producing that fuel, and results in a larger net energy gain per dollar invested. Current production of commercial grade ethanol contains 5% water, and is used routinely in gasoline engines, primarily as an additive, and is currently being considered for use in gas turbines. In this study ethanol is burned in a swirl-stabilized combustor, air is introduced at a constant flow rate through a dump diffuser, and fuels ranging from 0%–20% water in ethanol are injected via pressure-orifice atomizing nozzles. The goal of the study is to
