Abstract:

Magistro darbo objektas – radikalūs socialiniai judėjimai. Darbo tikslas – atskleisti interneto įtaką radikaliems socialinėms judėjimams šiuolaikinėje visuomenėje. Pagrindiniai darbo uždaviniai: išanalizuoti gyvenimo tinklinėje visuomenėje principus, išanalizuoti kibernetinė galios, kurioje egzistuoja internetinis aktyvizma prigimtį, išnagrinėti globalų pilietinį judėjimą, bei pateikti jo veiklos pavyzdžius. Magistro darbas susidės iš keturių dalių. Pirmoje dalyje bus pristatoma tinklinės visuomenės sąvoka, jos vaidmuo, bei gyvenimo dinamikos tinklinėje visuomenėje principai. Antroje darbo dalyje bus pristatoma kibernetinės galios sąvoka, jos dimensijos, atskleista terpė, kurioje egzistuoja visuomeniniai internetiniai judėjimai. Trečioje darbo dalyje bus pristatoma globalus pilietinis judėjimas, jo įtaka, bei taktinės žiniasklaidos koncepcija. Ketvirtoje darbo dalyje bus pateikta internetinio aktyvizmo grupių analizė. Magistro darbas gali būti naudingas: komunikacijos specialistams ir praktikams, bei politologams studijuojantiems interneto vaidmenį socialinių judėjimų praktikoje.
In the Times of struggle between neoliberal capitalism and global civil movement Questions regarding global governance and the possibility of global democracy are of specific concern. Currently, many social movements are organized around human rights under a variety of platforms (i.e., labor, indigenous rights). It is my contention that the need for transnational multi-issue movements is evident in the struggle for global democracy. The Internet is an important resource for the mobilization of mass global movements because it allows for quick and broad dissemination of information. Network society as a society in which a combination of social and media networks shapes its prime mode of organization and most important structures at all levels (individual, organizational and societal). It is necessary to understand nature of network society and its dynamics to further look at its influence on emerging social movements. Power is the condition and limit of politics, culture and authority. Power seeps through and around all forms of subjectivity, at times bringing opposites into conflict in a way that reinforces the fundamental flow of power. Power concerns not immediately obvious forms of politics, culture and authority but the structures that condition and limit these three. Grassroots activism exists in constant flows of power. Abstract:

Syftet med vår studie är att analysera miljöengagemanget hos individer som är verksamma i en etablerad miljöorganisation och i en nystartad miljöorganisation. Vi har valt det fenomenologiska angreppssättet då vi vill försöka beskriva våra intervjupersoners livsvärld.Studien är kvalitativ och vi har intervjuat fyra individer från Naturskyddsföreningen (SNF) och fyra individer från Klimataktion. Genom en kvalitativ forskningsmetod kan vi försöka att förstå miljöengagerade individers tankar och åsikter om deras miljöengagemang. Vi var intresserade av i vilken utsträckning de människor som är aktiva i den här typen av organisationer står för radikala åsikter och åtgärder i syfte att åstadkomma miljöförändringar. Med hjälp av våra valda teoretiker Tim Jackson (2009), Ulrich Beck (1998) och Anthony Giddens (2009) kan vi knyta an till ett perspektiv på miljöengagemang.Våra intervjupersoner är miljöengagerade då de är medvetna om miljöproblemen och de är oroliga för framtida generationer och för naturen själv. De flesta av intervjupersonerna arbetar i sina respektive organisationer och skriver debattartiklar. Skälen till att miljöengagemanget har minskat generellt i samhället är en rådande besvikelse inför miljöpolitiken och att göra något åt klimatförändringarna verkar hopplöst på grund av tidsbrist. Det kan vara svårt för människan att få en förståelse för kommande generationers behov och hur miljöproblemen kan påverka dem. För att upprätthålla ett engagemang för miljön krävs det att individer måste ha kunskap om miljön. Lättsamma aktiviteter i en miljöorganisation kan locka till sig fler individer och en attitydförändring kan även öka miljöengagemanget. Vi kommer till slutsatsen att Klimataktion har ett mer radikalt innehåll i sin organisation än vad SNF har.

Abstract:

This study includes a comparative analysis of the two jihadists, Taimour Abdulwahab's and Rakhmat Akilov's radical uprising. The objective is to analyze their radicalization process based on two different theoretical approaches. The first theory of Oliver Roy embraces the social conditions under which Muslims think and act, and believes that radicalization leads to an increased radical religiosity. In contrast, the second theory of Gilles Kepel seeks to understand the intellectual history of Islam, and believes that it is the political developments that have led to radicalization. The study shows that the radicalization of Taimour Abdulwahab and Rakhmat Akilov is a complicated matter that shares aspects from both theoretical approaches. However, some factors of the theories apply better than others. These factors are often linked to a triggering event that causes an individual to turn to a violent ideology. Also, strong group affiliation is considered an essential emotional bond, where identification with other like-minded people is an important factor. Influences from different emotions are essential to the radical process, where feelings of significance and threatened identity is a factor for increased violence. It is proven through the analysis how the interpretation of an individual's background results in how the religious and political perspectives regarding radicalization are defined and understood. As a result, one can neither ignore Kepel's historical aspects or Roy's modern conditions. After all, our life is often affected by both old and contemporary experiences.

Abstract:

Denna uppsats undersöker hur svensk konst och den svenska konstnären formuleras i Richard Berghs konstteoretiska skrifter och måleri. Utgångspunkten är den mediala debatt som pågått under 2010-talet om svenska värden och deras innebörd. Blickarna har i denna debatt ofta riktat sig mot nationalromantiken som stilbildande för att kategorisera en reaktionär och nationalistisk föreställning om vad som är svenskt. Däremot har försvaret av nationalromantiken alltid problematiserat begreppet, mycket utifrån den väldokumenterade politiska radikalism som många av sekelskiftes konstnärer hade. Uppsatsen vill visa genom Ludmilla Jordanova begrepp periodic feel, att betraktelsen av nationalromantisk konst ofta görs utifrån vissa föreställda politiska värden. Genom att betrakta Berghs verk bortom denna diskursiva debatt vill uppsatsen visa hur Bergh formulerar det svenska som en djup form av samtidskritik. På så sätt intar det svenska en estetisk politisk form bortom reaktion och revolution och ser istället åt samtiden. Det svenska formuleras hos Bergh som något som måste ständigt omgestaltas mot tidens utveckling och måste anpassa sig därefter. När konsten är samtida och rotad i den nationella självkänslan, uppstår således sann och livskraftig konst enligt Bergh.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to show that there is an important distinction between political radicalism and the previously more salient categories of political activism: activism and terrorism. More precisely, the question asked is the following: Is there any support for the need of radicalism as a way of classifying political activist groups? The distinction has not been entirely clear in previous research on political participation among activist groups, and this study intends to show why the distinction is vital to attain a more nuanced perception of the field. It means to do so through analysing methods of political participation among Swedish extra-parliamentary groups with revolutionary agendas. The result will show a deficiency in the way political actions has so far been defined, and suggest a stronger emphasis on radicalism as its own subcategory to political participation in the future.

Die Arbeit untersucht den Diskurs um das Boxen in der englischen Gesellschaft zwischen circa 1780 und 1820. Sie zeigt, dass er ein wichtiger Schauplatz für die Austragung sozialer, politischer und kultureller Konflikte war. Im Diskurs um das Boxen spiegeln sich in besonderem Maße die Konflikte zwischen civic humanism und politeness wieder, des Konfliktes zwischen zwei einander entgegengesetzten Männlichkeitsidealen: das Ideal vom starken Mann, das von den Boxern verkörpert wird und dem gegenüber das Ideal des verweichlichten und einfühlsamen ‚polite man‘. Boxen nimmt auch eine zentrale Funktion in den Debatten über die Rolle der Arbeiterklasse im ‚body politic‘ ein: von Konservativen wurde es eingesetzt als gegenrevolutionäre Maßnahme, um die Masse zu mobilisieren ohne Ihnen eine politische Teilhabe zu geben. Radikale sahen es als ein Instrument, um die Arbeiter zu ermächtigen, sie über Ihre Rechte zu informieren und deren Ansprüche auf Emanzipation zu legitimieren. Boxen war zudem ein Schlachtfeld, um verschiedene Verständnisse von Rasse und nationaler Identität auszutragen: einem Verständnis, dass das nationale Ganze als ethnisch homogen konstruierte und einem inklusiveren Verständnis der englischen Nation, das Minoritäten nicht ausschließen musste.
The study examines the discourse on boxing in English society circa 1780 to 1820. It shows that it was a site of struggle between diverse notions of gender, class, race, and nation. Boxing was a central arena for the opposition between civic humanism and politeness. It was an arena for the struggle between two diametrically opposed manly ideals, the strong and corporeal ideal epitomized by the boxers versus the feminine and sensitive polite ideal. Boxing took on an important role in the debates on the place of the working class in the body politic; conservatives perceived boxing as a counter-revolutionary measure and way to mobilise the masses in defence of their country without granting them political rights. Radicals viewed it as a tool to empowering the workers, educating them on their rights and legitimizing their claims for emancipation. Boxing was also a site of struggle between conflicting notions of race and differing ideas of national identity, specifically between one which saw the nation as ethnically homogenous and another, more cultural understanding of national identity, which was more inclusive to minorities.

Diploma thesis "National Radicalism in Hungary - Jobbik political party" deals with a political party in contemporary Hungary called (Movement for better Hungary -Jobbik). The aim is to place the party into a theoretical frame. Jobbik became important after the European parliament elections, when the party gained nearly 15% and 3 seats. In April 2010 Jobbik successfully entered the Hungarian parliament with nearly 17% and 47 seat. Although the party is often callen neonacist of extremist, the aim of the work is to prove that it belongs to populist radical right parties.

Abstract:

This paper aims to examine the development of political thinking of Heathenry and the factors that determine the political identity of particular heathen groups, namely their tendency to right-wing radicalism. The first chapter (after introduction) consists of four case studies; each one represents a different type of group in regard to where and under which circumstances they emerged, to the context that has been shaping their religious and political beliefs, and to the way they legitimize their possible political activism. The following two chapters analyze the historical influences that marked the difference in the ideological development of the two main types of Heathenry, Ásatrú and Odinism, in two distinct cultural milieus - Europe and the US. The final chapter is a synthesis of the case studies in relation to their historical background. The outcome of this synthesis offers a possible interpretation of the process of radicalization of the heathen groups. Bohumila Vacková Shodné znaky islámského a židovského radikalismu na počátku 21. století Identical features of Islamic and Jewish radicalisms in the early 21st century Identical features of Islamic and Jewish radicalisms in the early 21st century. Islam and Judaism are two significant Semitist monotheist religions. Islamic and Jewish radicalisms are a modern trend, which had one of its major culminations in the second half of the 20th century, particularly in the area of the Near and Middle East. The turn of the millennium and mainly the beginning of the 21st century highlighted the fact that Islamic and Jewish radicalisms are not only an issue of specific territories but that they have changed in scale and, with varying intensity, have become global problems (Note: Islamic radicalism strongly shows this trend). This fact raises the question of to what degree Islamic and Jewish radicalisms have affected the Czech Republic. In order to evaluate the given issue, I have chosen the features that are identical in both religions: charity and financial support; radical schools - madrasahs as opposed to yeshivas; and the proselytizing methods. This work aims at examining the origins of the civil rights coaiition between African Americans and American Jews, its achievements and its fall following the rise of radicalism among African Americans and other historical developments in the late 1960s. It is clear that the abolition of slavery alone did not bring about social, economic and political integration of African Americans. Black codes and unwritten discriminatory customs prevented them from securing their rightful and equal place among white Americans. In order to fight racism and discrimination and support integration more effectively, African Americans started to organize in a number of organizations including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). However, because they lacked leadership, funding as well as organizational skills, they needed an ally and American Jews proved to be a dexterous one. There were a number of things that African Americans and Jews shared at that time: no ne of the two ethnic groups had a homeland in the sense that for example Italian Americans did before World War II. 1 Rightlist extremism and radicalism in the Czech Republic constitutional law aspects Keywords Rightlist extremism, radicalism, constitutional law, human dignity, democracy, neonazists Abstract The subject of this thesis is description of activities of selected Czechoslovak and Czech political parties and movements with elements of right-wing extremism since the establishment of Czechoslovakia until 1945 and from 1989 to the present. More over I analyze the possibility of intrusion of democratic stability by activities of these subjects and examine legal instruments held by the society, to defend democracy. Reading my work, the reader should have complete view on this issue and clear comparison of right-wing extremism and its consequences in the past and present. Source of my work is the constitutional order of the Czech Republic, in particular the Czech Constitution and the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, laws and jurisprudence. This thesis is engaged in the formation of the concept of class in the second generation of the Czech (Bohemian) Working-Class Movement. I selected time termination, because of the beginning of the 1890s involved onset of second generation of working-class movement, which deflected from radikalism the first generation of pioneers to engagement oscillating between reformism of Bebel and revisionism of Bernstein. Even since the early 1890s gradually alternated Class about itself (Klasse an sich) at precisely defined Class for itself (Klasse für sich). This thesis compares counter and deradicalization policies of the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Denmark. Both countries have one of the oldest policies in Europe and are characterized as different, even opposite, and therefore were chosen for the comparative analysis. Thesis assesses concrete policy initiatives preventing radicalization mainly in prisons, schools, on the Internet, governments' deradicalization initiatives; initiatives addressing foreign fighters, the extremist ideology; and other approaches in preventing radicalization. The comparison is based on the theoretical-analytical framework of the most prominent theoretical approaches towards explaining radicalization. Through the comparison, the thesis explores, sometime subtle, differences and similarities of both approaches and links them together with theoretical explanations. The presented graduation thesis deals with radical right wing parties in the political system of the Czech republic. The far-right wing parties occured in the area of the present Czech republic in the second half of 19th century. In the following years their number and importance fluctuated. In the last twenty years the Dělnická strana appeared. This party was the most important far-right wing party since 1989 until present days. Dělnická strana was founded in 2002 and cancelled was by the Supreme Administrative Court eight years later. Many far-right wing parties acted in Czech republic besides this one after 1989. None of them, including Dělnická strana sociální spravedlnosti, which is the successor party of Dělnická strana, had ever achieved such popularity and elective results.

In the submitted thesis the author focuses on the rising popularity of extremist political parties in the Czech Republic. The popularity growth of extremist political parties in the Czech Republic is proven by election results in recent years. Right-wing extremists{\crq} ``combat power{\crqq} growth is closely connected with the increasing number of their followers. Regional elections in 2008, in which the Labour Party achieved almost 29 thousand votes, which represents eight times more than the party had achieved in the previous elections in 2004, can be a proof of that. What is more, this party achieved 1.07% votes in the European Parliament elections and it surpassed the limit which is necessary for the state subsidy requisition. In the Theoretical Part the author deals with definitions of basic terms ``extreme{\crqq} and ``radical{\crqq}. Then he deals with the theoretical division of the political scene, from both the current point of view and the historical point of view, into the rights and the lefts. Then he attends to some terms which are closely associated with extremism, such as: nationalism, anti-Semitism and racism. In the Conclusion of the Theoretical Part the author focuses on the far rights and the far lefts. He pays attention to both the current representatives and to their predecessors of those extreme lines. In the Practical Part the author sets his targets and defines hypotheses and he also attends to the used research procedure there. The research was made via questionnaire investigations. Questions were focused on people{\crq}s opinions which are related to inadaptable citizens and extremism. There were also some questions which were focused on activities of those parties in the above mentioned fields, regarding the inadaptable citizens and extremism, which have their members in the Parliament of the Czech Republic. In the Practical part of the thesis the author also evaluates the observed results in light of respondents{\crq} achieved level of education. In the Discussion of the thesis the author compares the observed data with the knowledge of experts. He also focuses on divergent opinions of asked respondents, in connection with their achieved level of education. The thesis and the observed results could be used by general public interested in extremism in the Czech Republic. Besides, the thesis and the observed results could be used as a source of information to improve general knowledge about the scene of extremism and about the problems pertaining to the scene in the Czech Republic.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the issue of violence in civil society. Using Charles Tilly's political theory, it attempts to point out that the emergence of collective violence can be well understood by tracing small scale causes (mechanisms), rather than large causes (poverty, extremism etc.). This argument is empirically studied in the context of anti-Roma riots that took place in Šluknov Hook, Czech republic, in the year 2011. The research is based on a broad concept of civil society, which doesn't assume fixed division between civil and uncivil subjects, but works with a number of actors, whose identity is unstable and their acting strategy fluently changes from nonviolent to violent and contra. The data show, that radical actors are generally more prone to use force. However, Tilly's theory provides opportunity to explain their influence on majority through the dynamics of relationships that is studied in this paper. This thesis deals with the development and position of the far-right Workers Party (DS) and the Workers Party of Social Justice (DSSS) in the political system of the Czech Republic. The work also includes a theoretical part, dealing with different views on extremism and radicalism. Also discussed is the position of the far-right parties in Central and Western Europe. The main goal is to capture the roots of the Workers 'Party, but also action and ideological bases its successor the Workers Party of Social Justice. Emphasis is placed on the presentation of the party and demonstrations. They are namely the main way to reach supporters. The thesis also analyzes the election results of DS (DSSS) and try to include the party in the Czech party system according to the theory of Giovanni Sartori. There is also a description of the organizational structure of the party and its affiliated organizations. The last chapter discusses the symbolism and iconography of the party.

This essay describes the radicalization of the Greek society and the rise of the political extremism in Greece in the period of 2000-2012. In this time important changes could have been observed in the Greek political scene and in the society which were linked to the polarization of the electorate and the growth of populism, nationalism, euroscepticism, xenophobia and racism. As a result of modernizing efforts of Constantinos Simitis cabinet (1996-2004), which were related to the Greek ambition to become fully-fledged member of the EU and the Eurozone, under the influence of globalization, immigration crisis and finally the recent slump of the Greek economy, a new social conflict emerged in Greece. This essay analyzes these problems from the perspective of the cleavages theory by Seymour M. Lipset and Stein Rokkan and tries to find social and political roots of such conflict. The radicalization of the Greek society between 2000 and 2012 does not represent a new phenomenon, but is is a continuation of long-term ideological clashes present in the Greek social reality since the World WarI. After identifying the main cleavages in interwar and postwar period the essay identifies the main conflict of Greece after the fall of junta in 1974.
