Abstract:
At present, ScanDisk is used to recover the data lost in network communication. But this method is limited in scope, and once the lost data is covered, it’s difficult or impossible to recover it, which results in low recovery degree. Accordingly, a recovery method for lost data in network communication based on RAID6 is proposed. Firstly, according to the mechanism of data loss in network communication, the missing data is divided into three categories: random loss, completely random loss and nonrandom loss, and then according to the results of classification, the recovery problem of the data loss in network communication is converted into the problem of matrix completion, finally, a low-rank decomposition model is proposed, according to the low rank characteristics of the matrix, the lost data in the matrix is recovered, thus the recovery of the lost data in network communication is finished. Experimental results show that the proposed method can easily recover the lost data in network communication with a simple operation, low computing complexity and strong applicability, and can be used as a universal recovery method for data lost in network communication.

HS-RAID (Hybrid Semi-RAID), a power-aware RAID, saves energy by grouping disks in the array. All of the write operations in HS-RAID are small write which degrade the storage system’s performance severely. In this paper, we propose a redundancy algorithm, data incremental parity algorithm (DIP), which employs HS-RAID to minimize the write penalty and improves the performance and reliability of the storage systems. The experimental results show that HS-RAID2(HS-RAID with DIP) is faster and has higher reliability than HS-RAID remarkably.

"Formation of raiding parties for intergroup violence is mediated by social network structure." Abstract:
Intergroup violence is common among humans worldwide. To assess how within-group social dynamics contribute to risky, between-group conflict, we conducted a 3-y longitudinal study of the formation of raiding parties among the Nyangatom, a group of East African nomadic pastoralists currently engaged in small-scale warfare. We also mapped the social network structure of potential male raiders. Here, we show that the initiation of raids depends on the presence of specific leaders who tend to participate in many raids, to have more friends, and to occupy more central positions in the network. However, despite the different structural position of raid leaders, raid participants are recruited from the whole population, not just from the direct friends of leaders. An individual’s decision to participate in a raid is strongly associated with the individual’s social network position in relation to other participants. Moreover, nonleaders have a larger total impact on raid participation than leaders, despite leaders’ greater connectivity. Thus, we find that leaders matter more for raid initiation than participant mobilization. Social networks may play a role in supporting risky collective action, amplify the emergence of raiding parties, and hence facilitate intergroup violence in small-scale societies.

Abstract:
During World War I, civilians became a target of the war machine. Air raids transformed the lives of those not involved in active combat and blurred the lines between the home front and the war front. This paper argues that the experience of air raids in World War I was comparable to the combat stress at the Western Front. The author bases her argument on contemporary publications in medical journals, measures taken by British authorities to prevent air-raid shock, and contemporary case records. The narratives of air-raid shock – similarly to those of shell-shocked soldiers – reflect the feelings of terror and loss of control, and demonstrate the profound effect these experiences could have on individuals’ mental health.

Abstract:
This paper provides the first analysis of aggregate raiding activity in Ontario by isolating raid applications from available certification data. Raiding in Ontario generally decreased over the 1975 to 2003 period save for the huge increases in 2000 and 2001 involving the CAW and SEIU. Bargaining units are significantly larger in raids, and legislative changes had little effect on aggregate raiding levels. Over most of the period raiding activity has been quite modest. Thus analyses of union organizing and its effect on union density are unlikely to be affected by leaving raids in the organizing data. An important exception occurs in 2000 and 2001, where the certification data seriously overstate new organizing. Corrected measures show that new (non-raid) union organizing continues to decline in Ontario. The decline in new organizing has been greater than the decline in raiding, resulting in an increased proportion of organizing due to raids in recent years.

In the ever-increasing development of network storage technology, distributed RAID has been a hot topic for data reliability and availability. To solve the problem of distributed RAID technology, such as: parallel access difficulty, long rebuild time, small write update and strip alignment problem, we design and implement file level distributed RAID system (BW-FILERAID) based on Blue Whale File System (BWFS). Also we do the research on resource allocation strategy, page cache management with parity data, consistence maintenance, online extension of RAID group, error detect and rebuild and small write optimization in BW-FILERAID. According to the testing results, the writing performance of BW-FILERAID is better than Linux soft RAID about 5%~50%, and the reading performance is equivalent to the RAID0. And it also has excellent extensibility.

Abstract:
Drawing on ethnographic work with Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC), a grassroots sex worker organisation in Sonagachi, the iconic red-light district in Kolkata, India, this paper explores the politics of the detritus generated by raids as a form of state violence. While the current literature mainly focuses on its institutional ramifications, this article explores the significance of the raid in its immediate relation to the brothel as a home and a space to collectivise for labour rights. Drawing on atyachar (oppression), the Bengali word sex workers use to depict the violence of raids, I argue that they experience the raid not as a spectacle, but as an ordinary form of violence in contrast to their extraordinary experience of return to rebuild their lives. Return signals both a reclamation of the detritus as well as subversion of the state’s attempt to undermine DMSC’s labour movement.

Abstract:
Abstract The spectre of air bombing attacks on West African cities during World War Two remains an unexplored dimension of World War Two history. Lagos had long been perceived as vulnerable to attack from neighbouring Dahomey (Benin), and the Fall of France in June 1940 intensified these threats, while increasing anxiety concerning potential Axis raids. Focusing on air-raid planning in Lagos particularly, this article will argue that the possibility of aerial bombing exposed not simply the incapacity of the colonial government and officials’ limited understanding of housing and employment in 1940s Lagos, but also the inadequacy of measures to protect African lives. Conversely, the air-raid threat motivated Africans to critique limited government provision and propose their own interpretations of this new and deadly threat. Although the feared aerial raids never materialised, the crisis and anxiety they provoked yield significant insights into wartime Nigeria, local participation in civil defence, and African responses to World War Two more generally.

Abstract:
RAID-6 is a data encoding scheme used to provide single drive error detection and dual drive error correction for data redundancy on an array of disks. Here we present a thorough study of efficient implementations of RAID-6 on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Since RAID-6 relies heavily on Galois Field Algebra (GFA), an efficient implementation of a GFA FPGA library is also presented. Through rigorous performance analysis, this work shows the most efficient ways to tradeoff FPGA resources and execution time when implementing GFA functions as well as RAID-6 encoding and decoding.

Andersson, Helene. "Dawn Raids under Challenge : A Study of the European Commission’s Dawn Raid Practices in Competition Cases from a Fundamental Rights Perspective." Doctoral thesis, Stockholms universitet, Juridiska institutionen, 2017. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:su:diva-135720.

Full text
Abstract:
This doctoral dissertation examines the European Commission’s dawn raid practices in competition cases from a fundamental rights perspective. In recent years the Commission has adopted a new and more aggressive enforcement policy, which reflects the widespread understanding that cartels and abuse of market power are harmful to the economy and should be punished. Given both the considerable gains to be made through anti-competitive practices and the cartel’s nature of secrecy, effective application of the competition rules requires that competition authorities are vested with far-reaching investigatory powers. At the same time, EU fundamental rights protection has been strengthened through the Lisbon Treaty, and the Commission now has to ensure effective application of the EU competition rules while navigating through an array of fundamental rights, such as the right of the defence and the right to privacy. The doctoral dissertation explores whether it is possible to strike a balance between the interests of ensuring effective dawn raids and adequate fundamental rights protection, or whether the Commission has been handed an impossible task. As the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights requires EU fundamental rights protection to meet or exceed the standard set by the ECHR, the research is based on case-law from both the EU Courts and the European Court of Human Rights. The research demonstrates that the European Court of Human Rights has adopted a flexible approach towards inspections at business premises; it does not require an ex ante review of inspection decisions and accepts rather intrusive investigatory measures, provided that and as long as the procedural safeguards surrounding such measures are considered adequate. This way, the court manages to strike a balance between efficiency concerns and the rights of undertakings. As for the EU system, the EU Courts are not providing judicial review to the extent required by the ECHR. While inspection decisions may be challenged, the possibilities to challenge measures taken on their basis, or have those measures suspended, are limited. This discrepancy between EU and ECHR law – which is of seemingly limited nature – may affect the legitimacy of the entire dawn raid procedure as the granting of far-reaching investigatory powers must be counterbalanced by effective judicial control to ensure that measures adopted by the Commission are neither disproportionate nor arbitrary. Absent an effective judicial control of measures taken on the basis of inspection decisions, the procedural safeguards surrounding dawn raids cannot be considered adequate, and it is possible that the powers of the Commission may need to be restricted accordingly. The research also demonstrates that some of the limitations in the legal professional privilege – such as the exclusion of correspondence with non-EU lawyers or legal advice that lacks connection with the subject-matter of the investigation – do not serve the interests of a proper administration of justice and may therefore be questioned.

Abstract:
Magistro darbo tikslas – aptarti monologą XIX a. pab. – XXI a. pr. lietuvių dramaturgijoje. Monologų sklaida išryškina skirtingų lietuvių dramaturgijos laikotarpių bendrąsias tendencijas: vyraujančių charakterių pobūdį, prasmines slinktis, žanrines, stilistines ypatybes, specifinį estetinį psichologinį poveikį, ryšį su adresatu. Vaižgantas, Keturakis, Žemaitė įtvirtino realistinį tikrovės vaizdavimo būdą. Romantinėse pjesėse formuojamas „aukštasis“, poetinis dramos stilius. Realistiniams kūriniams būdingas šnekamosios kalbos imitavimas. Monologams būdinga funkcija – atpasakoti pasibaigusius įvykius ir buvusius išgyvenimus. Dramaturgai neoromantikai siekė dramaturgiją pakreipti romantinio atsinaujinimo linkme. Pasak J. Lankučio, pradėta tolti nuo įprastinio patriotinių jausmų deklaravimo, istorinės, socialinės iliustracijos. Skirtingai nei mėgėjiškosios dramaturgijos laikotarpiui, neoromantizmo dramaturgijai būdingas žanrinis sinkretizmas. Apie žanrinių ribų maišymąsi byloja paantraštės (pavyzdžiui, V. Krėvės „Šarūnas“ – „Senųjų dienų gyvenimo pasaka“). Monologų analizė išryškina V. Krėvės, V. Mykolaiio-Putino dramų orientaciją į poezijos žanrą, į jos stilistiką. Neoromantinių kūrinių monologe ryškus lyrinis pradas: personažai pasakoja apie šios akimirkos būsenas ar įvykius. Atsiranda poetiškumas, lyrinis subtilumas, vaizduojami ryškūs, individualizuoti charakteriai. Išskiriamas savitas kalbėjimo būdas: stilizuojama lietuvių liaudies daina. „XX a. 3 – 4 dešimtmečių... V. Summary ‘‘Development of the monologue in Lithuanian dramaturgy“ In this study was analised the monologue in XIX century end – XXI century beginning dramaturgy. At the beginning of the work, conception of the monologue is given. In it different attitudes of dramatists to monologue is emphasized. Some dramatists think, that certain elements of monologue forms are negatyve, not acceptable (statics of thoughts and thinking, outburst of emotions) and the monologues in their dramas are not used often. The others think, that monologues have merit and use them in drama. A. Samulionis, P. Pavi give the classification of the monologues, though it is not detailed. In monologues problematics, themes of “Amateurish dramaturgy“ the realistic reality representing way (the dramas of Žemaitė, Keturakis, Vaižgantas) and romantic-patriotic (A. Fromas-Gužutis) are often used. The main functions of the monologue: informational, dinamical, pushing the act of the drama further, characterising the personage who is taking, structural-compositional. The orientation to poetry stilistics and genre of V.Krėvė, V. Mykolaitis-Putinas reveals in neoromantical drama: mithology, lyrism. In monologues distinct individualised characters are pictured in the historical dramaturgy. Of the middle of the XX century (J. Grušas, J. Marcinkevičius) the monologues show universal, crossing the concrete historical times problematics. The language is characterised with didactical tones, passionativenes. K. Saja... [to full text]

Abstract:
Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks or RAID is a popular method of improving the reliability and performance of disk storage. Of various levels of RAID, mirrored or RAID1 and rotating parity or RAID5 configurations have become moat popular. Mirrored or RAID1 provides best overall performance and is easier to configure, but has 100 percent storage overhead for the redundancy. Rotating parity or RAID5, on the other hand, is quite inexpensive for the redundancy it provides, shorn impressive performance for reads and full-stripe writes in normal mode, but the small write performance is poor due to the read-modify-write cycle involved. The performance drops drastically when one of the disks fails and the system enters degraded mode. Also RAID5 is relatively difficult to configure. Typical non-scientific system disk access patterns exhibit very high locality of reference. This thesis presents the design and implementation of an Adaptive Hierarchical RAID array to exploit this high locality. Frequently accessed data is migrated towards the top of the hierarchy and not so frequently acee88ed data is moved down the hierarchy, thus adaptively rearranging itself to the access patterns. Previous work on Adaptive Hierarchical RAID such as HP AutoRAID has explored one part of the design space, namely design of configurable storage at the SGSI level with no interaction with higher level layers like volume manager. This thesis explores a different design point: namely, one that is centered at the volume manager layer. This is important also for the reason that with fibre channel disks and SCSI-3, Storage Area Networks (SAN) no longer need a conventional controller but a modified version of a controller that is more close to a volume manager.

Ilgą laiko tarpą hidroenergetika vertinta kaip sėkminga žmonijos vystimosi ir akivaizdžios naudos išraiška, pastaruoju metu siejama su reikšmingu poveikiu gamtinei aplinkai bei įtaka klimato kaitai. Lygumų šalyse, net ir mažos galios hidroelektrinių statyba pareikalauja didelių užliejamų žemės plotų. Šiame darbe atlikome aštuoniasdešimties iki 2007 metų pastatytų hidroelektrinių poveikio aplinkai analizę bei aptarėme galimą „Lietuvos hidroenergetinių išteklių schemoje„ numatytų statyti HE poveikį aplinkai palyginant didžiąją ir mažąją hidroenergetiką. Atlikus tyrimą nustatyta, kad nedidelės galios hidroelektrinės poveikis aplinkai, lyginant pagaminamos energijos vienetui yra daug didesnis nei didelių hidroelektrinių atveju. Tam, kad pagaminti 1 kW elektros energijos – 100 kW galingumo hidroelektrinėje, reikės užlieti apie 0,5 ha žemės, kai tokiam pačiam kiekiui pagaminti didelėje (100MW) galios HE prireiks 0,06 ha užliejamos žemės. During the last century hydroenergy become one of the most important energy source in the world. However, the environmental impacts of dams have been disccused widely in recent years. Number of reserches indicates dams reservoir as an significant greenhouse gas source. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects on environment made by electrical dams in country of flatlands. To assess all possible impact of designed power plants, analysis of more than 80 working electrical dams has been made. The impact of small and large power plants was considered. Analysis shows that there was a quite big difference in flooded land area per energy unit (kW), between low-power and high-power hydroelectric. Average flooded area for 100 kW power plant destroys over 0,5 hectare of species rich semi-natural grasslands forests and other landed property. When high-power (100MW) hydroelectric dam require only about 0,06 hectare of flooded land per unit. Thus, indicates that small water-plants gives much more negative impact per unit, than big ones. However, the impact of dams, are highly destructive in conditions of flatlands. Results has showed that further hydroenergy development in Lithuania, according to planned “Lithuanian hydroenergy resource use scheme” would require vast flooded area of total 670 km2. In addition, dams reservoir emit a significant amount of greenhouse gas to the atmosphere. The impact of Global warming will contribute 43960 thousand ton of CO2 and 580... [to full text]

Aim of work: to investigate charitable activities in Vilkaviskis diocese. Object of work: organization “Caritas“ in Vilkaviskis diocese. The goals: to give a concept of Merciful Love, overview interwar social activities in Vilkaviskis diocese and identify consequences of occupation, to introduce with organization “Caritas” activities in Vilkaviskis diocese after regain of independence. The methods: descriptive, exploratory, synthetic. Many people in Lithuania do have faulty opinion about charitable activities. “Caritas” is imagined as a place where you can get some clothing for free or a place where you can give away unused clothing or other things. “Caritas” is a love, charity, mercy. It is showing effort to help others, to care for other wellbeing, talking about virtue. Charitable activities should be born out of love for God, and love for your relatives comes from it. The very person of Christ and his life example is the entire testimony of charity. “Caritas” tries to implement that in a world full of worries. This work provides an overview of charitable work in Vilkaviskis diocese given changes in life of that historical period. Some of activities in diocese are related to all activities of the Catholic Church. A lot of trouble for charitable activities where caused by lack of charitable sources at a time of interwar and at the time when Lithuania was occupied. The work was based on archival documents, press, internet sources, memories by activists, interviews of... [to full text]
