Abstract:
Simulation of the dynamic load of the tank container when transported as part of a combined train on a rail ferry is carried out. Mathematical models taking into account possible interactions of tank containers with the frame of flat cars are developed. Calculations are made for the tank container of 1CS type size placed on the 13-4012M flat car. It is taken into account that the transportation of the tank container is carried out on the “Geroi Shipki” type rail ferry by the Black Sea. It is found that the greatest acceleration acts on the tank container in case of displacement of

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a determination of the load attributed to rail vehicles transported by a ferry, considering the influence of sea waves on its hull. A mathematic model describing the displacements of a train ferry, which transported rail vehicles on its decks during rolling oscillations, was created. Calculated accelerations were used to identify the load of components from a dynamics point of view and they were subsequently applied as an input to the analysis of the strength of the open wagon main-bearing structure in a standard scheme of interaction with a train ferry deck

In modern conditions, Ukraine, having an extensive railway network and a developed infrastructure of seaports located on its Black Sea coast, is becoming a link in new goods delivery routes in the direction of the EU-China. Transportation of large consignments of goods in the direction is usually carried out in containers by sea transport. At the same time, such transportation is characterized, on the one hand, by a relatively low cost, and on the other hand, by rather long delivery times. An alternative case is transportation by mixed rail-water communication, which allows, with a mo

This article presents the most frequent damage in the bearing structure of a rail car during rail/sea transportation. The study includes load modes for the bearing structure of an open car such as unloading with a grab and transportation by a train ferry. It was found that the most vulnerable element of the bearing structure of an open car during unloading with a grab is the top cord. The authors suggest applying a viscous material (an elastomer) to reinforce the top cord. This solution was confirmed by means of a strength calculation, whose results showed the efficiency of the solution. The b

Public transportation is critical for mobility in most large cities in the United States. In Boston and eastern Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) offers subway, bus, ferry, and commuter rail service to provide options to personal automobile use and thereby reduce highway congestion, improve air quality, and reduce energy consumption. In recent years, scholarly research has suggested that railroads in the city represent an overlooked rail transit opportunity for inner-city mobility. This chapter examines situations in which the incentives of partisanship can encourage a government to actively seek to exacerbate an existing policy failure rather than to repair it. Under these circumstances, the certain benefits of shaming the political opposition outweigh any potential rewards of improving specific policy outcomes. The chapter considers two cases of policy failure in the late 1990s in the transportation sector. The first case explores an effort by the British Columbia Ferry Corporation (BC Ferries), a public provider of marine transportation on Canada's west coast, to intr

The efficiency of functioning of the transport industry necessitates the introduction of modern vehicles. Since the main segment of the transportation process is allocated to rail transport, the creation of modern wagon designs must be subject to special requirements. This applies in particular to their load-bearing structures. When designing the load-bearing structures of modern wagons, it is necessary to take into account the specified values of loads that can act on them not only when operating on main tracks, but also in combined railway-ferry transportation.
