Abstract:
Scenic railway refers to the trains that operate for tourism purposes, which are mainly maintained for facilitating leisure activities, scenic tours, and heritage experiences. As both an extension of railway heritage and an important redevelopment method, this concept is meaningful for the touristic development of historical railways but has received less attention in academia. To understand the tourism and landscape values of scenic railways from a geo-historical perspective and discuss the recent techniques and methods for railway tourism, this article first introduces the relationship between railway and landscape and the concept of scenic railway in French literature. Secondly, it analyzes the current distribution of French scenic railways based on geographic information system (GIS) tools. Through georeferencing, mapping, data relating and joining, calculating, and classifying, different groups of scenic railways are systemized and published online. Following statistical treatment, the pattern of distribution of scenic railways in comparison with the standard-gauge railway system in France is revealed. Based on the discussions on scenic railways, further study should focus more on the landscape evaluation of scenic railways and its integration with other spatial technologies for deeper geo-analysis. Moreover, the research results can serve as a reference for the development of relative railway heritage and tourist activities.

AbstractTransport is a very important part of activities in the tourism sector. In addition to the transport of tourists to and within a destination, transport itself can be a tourist attraction. The aim of this paper is to analyse selected problems of railways in Slovakia (a decrease in the importance of railways for passenger transport in Slovakia in the past 20 years, discontinued passenger transport on certain railway tracks and the modernisation of other tracks, and zero-fare public rail transport services for certain categories of passengers), and to present good examples of the use of narrow-gauge railways for the purposes of tourism (the Tatra Electric Railways and the Kysuce-Orava Forest Railway).

Abstract:
From the second half of the 20th century, numerous railways, especially in industrial and mining areas, were abandoned for economic reasons. The activism of the “railfans”, who are fond of trains, has made it possible to set up voluntary associations that have been the lifeblood of the beginning of projects for the recovery of the historic railway heritage and the promotion of it in a touristic sense. This topic is worthy of attention, and during recent years it has been the focus of several research papers. A systematic literature review was performed using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes) methodology. This tool is a minimal set of evidence-based elements aimed at helping authors to carry out a systematic literature review. This systematic literature review sought to consolidate knowledge on the subject. The research team formulated three research questions related to the dynamics of railway heritage recovery, the dynamics of railway tourism and the relationship between sustainability and railway tourism. The findings highlighted that the railway tourism process always originates from a project for the restoration of railway heritage, possibly maintaining authenticity. The voluntary associations, along with their “railfans”, are the main stakeholder, not only preserving the rail heritage but also developing railway tourism activities. The touristic railway could regenerate the local community, with positive benefits on the local economy. Many tourists could be attracted by railway tourism destinations in that they wish to live memorable experiences related to the nostalgia of the past.

Abstract:
The value of historical railways and their important role in social, economic, technical, political, and cultural terms has led to their inclusion as industrial heritage attractions. This study aims to evaluate the heritage value of the Oraviţa–Anina linear railway, the first mountain railway in Romania. The assessment of the value of the railway involved both quantitative and qualitative methods. The value was assessed on the basis of a rigorous quantitative evaluation of key attributes of heritage railway, using a system of criteria and indicators. On the other hand, the selected qualitative methodology facilitated the critical interpretation of the perception of the local community as a beneficiary of the railway heritage and as an active stakeholder involved in its reuse. The qualitative evaluation of the heritage railway was also highlighted based on a critical analysis of tourists’ perceptions. The results indicate the usefulness of a mixed methodology for the complex evaluation of the value of a heritage railway and its sustainable capitalization. Railway tourism is a sustainable solution meant to stimulate interest in learning about local history and culture, and can at the same time contribute to the fulfillment of knowledge of the motivations that drive tourist demand.

Abstract:
[For the English abstract and full text of the article please see the attached PDF-File (English version follows Russian version)].ABSTRACT Today there are more than 160 rack railways around the world. Constantly (in winter and summer) about 60 of them operate. Half of all permanent roads are in Switzerland, where, as is known, more than 61 % of the territory is occupied by mountains. A rack railway is a special type of railway with a steep incline, which has toothed wheel gearings, usually located between track rails. The author tells in some detail about the history of their creation, construction and operation. Currently, they are used as a means of moving along tourist routes in mountainous terrain or as urban passenger transport (for example, in Budapest, Zurich or Stuttgart). At the same time, the Swiss rack railways are profitable. In the territory of Russia, there are no rack railways. This despite the fact that in Russia there are also many mountain territories (≈ 33 %). And, as the author rightly points out, rack railways could promote their development and organization of activities that contribute to the development of the local community and the country as a whole. On specific examples from the field of railway tourism, the issues of the formation of competencies among students in the field of Tourism training in the process of studying the special course “Man and his needs” on the basis of the Ural State University of Railway Transport are considered. Three key skills are identified that contribute to the professional identification of the needs of a modern tourist as an experienced, demanding client of Russian tourism enterprises, the urgent task of which (including within the framework of the import substitution policy) is the production of competitive products in the domestic consumer market. The allocation of these skills as basic for the formation of a professional culture of a specialist in the field of modern tourism is justified — a specialist capable of producing a successful (including financially) tourist product that is in demand among the consumer. Examples of specific tasks aimed at consolidating the necessary skills in the production of tourism products that meet high quality standards (primarily) domestic tourism are given.

Abstract:
Nowadays, transport systems efficiency plays a key role for communities’ liveability and economy, being in addition an important factor in the economic integration of countries. The purpose of the article is to develop multi-stage models of tourist activities for optimizing the development of operating companies. For the implementation of models, the authors evolved the relevant system of organizational-functional support for the development of railway tourism. The research will enable us to take into consideration risks when planning tourist routes by railway, determine the order of construction or start of routes, and assess their profitability. This will provide to earn the expected incomes of all interested parties in tourist activities for the specified period. The authors created economic-mathematical models of the discrete optimal planning of the railway tourism operations. This takes into account conditions of risks and cooperation, and allows to determine which sets of effective routes are the most profitable ones. The results of the realization of the developed models include the task of the succession of the tourist route introduction according to the present and future infrastructure, availability of the rolling stock, etc. In this, consideration is given to obtaining maximum profit from tourism businesses for every participant during an established period.

Abstract:
Purpose The high-speed rail network can lead to the transformation of the tourism industry, as well as the regional economy. In the present study, a reasonable method was developed to assess the contributions of high-speed rail network to the development of tourism and economy in a Chinese region known as the “1 + 8” city tourism circle. Design/methodology/approach The method proposed here combines not only tourism revenue but also regional economy in a MGM (1, n) gray model, and it studies the tourist and economic output of this tourism circle before and after the high-speed rail network’s construction using an advanced “with and without comparison” method. Findings By using this method, the accuracy of the prediction of the contribution rate of high-speed rail network is improved. We found that in the “1 + 8” city tourism circle, the high-speed rail network positively contributes to increase of the tourism arrival and tourism revenue. Furthermore, regional economy significantly grows under the impact of the high-speed rail network. Research limitations/implications The “1 + 8” city tourism circle is studied as a closed system in this paper, and the authors focus on the economic associations between the cities in the circle by ignoring the impact from outside this circle. This treatment means, simplifies and enables the feasibility of this study, but it virtually leads to the deviation of outcomes between this study and the practical. Practical implications For theoretical values, by studying a normal Chinese inland region, this study reconfirmed the positive impact of high-speed railway empirically. In the meantime, this study developed an improved method by introducing gray theory models to “with and without comparison” method to calculate the contribution of high-speed railway to the regional tourism and economy development. Such method simultaneously incorporates the indexes of regional tourism income and regional GDP simultaneously. It is direct and convenient as it can achieve accuracy requirements using only a small amount of data, and it reconciles more with reality by considering the interaction of the outcomes of tourism and economy. Social implications For practical values, using the proposed method, a direct and convenient calculation of the contributions of high-speed railway to many other regions can be achieved if the data of the outcomes of tourism and economy can be obtained. In such a way, the regions that really need high-speed railway to stimulate their development can be distinguished from regions whose high-speed railway is under blind construction. Thus, the government may take actions to reassess some uneconomic high-speed railway projects without discouraging the construction of high-speed railway in other regions. The authors believe that this is important not only for China but also for many other countries with high-speed railway projects. Originality/value This study develops a reasonable method of assessing the contribution of high-speed rail to regional tourism and economic development. Using this method, this study confirmed that high-speed rail indeed positively impacts the regional development.

Abstract:
The extraordinary richness of the natural and built heritage, widespread in the landscape which surrounds infrastructures, allows searching for new ways to access the places in a more sustainable way, by exploiting multimodal accessibility between train and bike. The current research shows how the territories in-between the cities of Turin and Milan, characterized by a complex historical landscape, could be enhanced in terms of sustainable tourism by exploiting the potential of the existing railway network and the widespread network of local roads, which make many unique places in these territories easily accessible. A GIS method based on a quantitative approach has been defined, to perform the spatial analysis by mapping the most significant nodes in the railway network, in the most attractive heritage areas localized in the surrounding landscape of infrastructures, to trace slow-tourism routes which can be used both by inhabitants and tourists to move across places in a more sustainable way. The research finds the most attractive heritage areas in the surroundings of local railways, and maps slow-tourism routes that connect local railway stations to surrounding heritage, within 15 min of cycling. The GIS-based method can support decision makers in the definition of new territorial development strategies, with the aim of enhancing the livelihood of the inner and fragile areas of the country that are crossed by the railways.

Abstract:
Ecological tourism or ecotourism (In abbreviation) is a form of tourism intended as a low impact on the environment and is based on the principles of sustainability in natural and historical areas with conservation characteristics. Railway tourism can be a form of ecological tourism that occurs in areas with presence of the railroad network. due to its novelty and proximity with natural and cultural heritage in the humid and rainy climate, This form of tourism can attract many tourists all around the world. The methodology of this study is descriptive and analytical, and initially, characteristics and requirements have been explained with resources and library studies The required infrastructures are the main bass of tourism, one of the most significant of which, is the current situation of the transportation system (railway network). The main aim of this study is the introduction of railway tourism as a strategy for development of railroad settlements in north of Iran with ecological and sustainable tourism. As the second aim, the most significant criteria of the railway-tourism were extracted from theoretical the foundation, in addition, their priority were specified by experts’ in AHP (Analytic hierarchy process) method. Moreover, in order to understand the restrictions and main problems of the local people, interviews have been conducted. In the following, Tehran – Mazandaran impassable mountainous railway has been introduced, that passes through the Alborz Mountains. This route has majority of unrivalled natural and cultural attractions, traditional habitation, and rural settlements. Despite recent spatial changes in Iran, these regions remained original and traditional. Interestingly, the railway is the only accessible transport to some of these settlements, without destructive effect on the environment. As the result, the substantial criteria were specified, and the basic issues and limitations of the locals’ life have been explained from survey and interviews. Consequently, a direct relationship has been detected between railway tourism and railroad habitation development in Tehran – Mazandaran railway that contains social, economic, physical and demographic studies. Eventually, it could be easily realized, which railway-tourism has the lowest ecological impacts despite other types of tourism in natural and rural areas. Therefore, every kind of effort from researchers to authorities in this field could be helpful in order to protect our environment.

Abstract:
The Shinkansen is the fastest bullet train in Japan. Shinkansen greatly improve the tourism economy in some cities in Japan. Shinkansen is extremely handy for foreign visitors and reduces the cost of visiting numerous places in Japan. As is known, MRT in Jakarta is one of the collaborative projects between Japan and Indonesia. Indonesia also has a 'semi-fast' train that travels between Jakarta and Surabaya at 140-145 km/hour. Learning from the Shinkansen in Japan, the Indonesian Semi-High-Speed Train also has the potential to increase the tourism sites in Indonesia with the help of a 'push and pull strategy.' This case study used interviews and literature reviews for data collection. In this study, after data was collected, it was used to analyse the mode of transportation for tourism destinations and the marketing strategy that can be used for this research. The result of this study is that Indonesia can also imitate the implementation of tour packages from Japan's railway and tourism system. Shinkansen connects tourist destinations in various cities (intercity), and it is hoped that the semi-fast train built by the Indonesian government can do the same thing. Railways as tourism transport are only one thing in developing tourist destinations. The other thing is, of course, related to integrated tourism planning

The article is to show tourist assets of the cross-border railway line Brest–Chełm, which is disrupted by a state border and the lack of a bridge on the Bug River barring access to Brest–Włodawa line section on the Belarus side and to Włodawa–Chełm section on the Polish side. The locally operating sections, built in the eighties of the twentieth century, of the strategic railway linking the Warsaw–Terespol line with the Vistula River Railroad (Nadwiślańska) have a great potential for the development of railway tourism. The line runs along prized nature areas of the macro-regions West Polesie and Wołyńskie Polesie. Sundry landscapes of the border countryside and their biological diversity are decisive in enjoying the highly valued scenery along the line on the Polish side. The attractiveness of the Belarus side – in practice accessible to foreigners following the introduction of the tourist and recreation zone ‘Brest’ in 2018 – is usually associated with the uncommon rules of travelling by train in the Belarus cross-border region. Both fragments of the line Brest–Chełm lead to and run through interesting tourist localities and cross-border culture sites. The article also touches on the present restrictions for railway tourism along this route, and the chances of reviving regular traffic in the Polish section in view of the governmental programme Kolej+.

Abstract:
Suburban tourist railway is an emerging transportation mode for tourism. Knowing the travel demand and trip distribution patterns of tourists is an important prerequisite to the planning and construction of suburban tourist railways. However, this issue has attracted very little research attention so far. Therefore, this paper proposes a forecasting model focused on the trip distribution of tourists who travel with the suburban tourist railway. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of tourists’ trips and the use of the trip chain method, the frequency, order, distance, and visiting volume of stay points of the trips of tourists have been intensively studied. Then, a tourist trip distribution forecasting model was built in this paper. It uses the Entropy-Maximizing theory to predict trip chain distribution probability and obtain the distribution of tourists within the city. A case study that takes the H city as an example was conducted to test the proposed model. The results of this case show that the output of the model can reflect the real trip distribution characteristics of tourists very well, which demonstrates the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed model.

Abstract:
The number of people with disabilities is steadily growing all over the world and currently there are up to 15% of the total population. About 35 million people with limited mobility live in Russia, including 11.6 million people with disabilities, the most numerous group of disabled people aged over 60 years (57.2 % of the total number). Insufficient adaptation of the tourist infrastructure to the opportunities and needs of people with disabilities is one of the barriers to the formation of an "accessible environment". A study of the barrier-free environment in the country showed a low level of adaptation of tourist infrastructure for different types of tourism (from cultural, educational, therapeutic, to mountain skiing, etc.): Moscow and St. Petersburg - up to 30% of tourist infrastructure is adapted for travel of people with disabilities, in Sochi currently plans to bring up to 60%, in general, in all regions – up to 5%. The most popular transport for organizing tours is rail transport, so the infrastructure on rail transport must meet the requirements of an "accessible environment" for all categories of users. The issues of transport accessibility for the Russian population as a whole and the objectives of achieving sustainable development, considered within the context of providing an "accessible environment" for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility on rail transport, constitute the development pattern for barrier-free and inclusive rail tourism in the country. Considering the needs of different categories of passengers, Russian Railways carries out complex modernization of rolling stock and renovation of passenger infrastructure (more than 900 passenger cars are equipped with a specialized compartment for passengers with disabilities), designs and promotes new projects in the development of railway tourism together with enterprises involved in the hospitality and tourism industry. However, insufficient tourism infrastructure adjustment to the needs of people with disabilities is one of the barriers to providing an accessible environment. Moreover, special features of mentality and health abilities of people with disabilities, their low purchasing power, and lack of awareness should be taken into account. Consistent implementation of state policy in creating a single barrier-free space for people with disabilities will contribute to their socialization in society and mobility when traveling and when traveling in the tourist and recreational environment

Abstract:
This study investigates the nonlinear impact of various modes of transportation (air, road, railway, and maritime) on the number of foreign visitors to China originating from major source countries. Our nonlinear tourism demand equations are determined through the Markov-switching regression (MSR) model, thereby, capturing the possible structural changes in Chinese tourism demand. Due to many variables and the limitations from the small number of observations confronted in this empirical study, we may face multicollinearity and endogeneity bias. Therefore, we introduce the two penalized maximum likelihoods, namely Ridge and Lasso, to estimate the high dimensional parameters in the MSR model. This investigation found the structural changes in all tourist arrival series with significant coefficient shifts in transportation variables. We observe that the coefficients are relatively more significant in regime 1 (low tourist arrival regime). The coefficients in regime 1 are all positive (except railway length in operation), while the estimated coefficients in regime 2 are positive in fewer numbers and weak. This study shows that, in the process of transportation, development and changing inbound tourism demand from ten countries, some variables with the originally strong positive effect will have a weak positive effect when tourist arrivals are classified in the high tourist arrival regime.

The integration of the cultural/creative and tourism industries is one way to present different types of regional cultural heritage to the world. This study examined the coupling of intangible cultural heritage and cultural tourism development in Hunan, seeking a pattern for the development of the former under the latter. The study included analyzing the coupling between tourism resources and ICH and exploring modes of revitalizing or developing ICH in the context of cultural tourism. We used methods of GIS spatial technology, including nearest neighbor indexing, kernel density estimation, and queuing analysis, to estimate the kernel density of a buffer of points (high-speed railway stations, and 5A and 4A scenic spots) and lines (high-speed railways and highways). The results show (1) the overall spatial aggregation of Hunan’s ICH resources; (2) how tourist attractions drive ICH resources, as illustrated by the coupling between the spatial distribution of ≥4A attractions and ICH; and (3) the pattern of high-speed road and railroad network development, featuring region-wide guidance for the development of Hunan’s ICH resources. This research not only provides development patterns and concepts for the study of intangible cultural heritage and tourism development planning in Hunan, but also provides useful references for the combination of the two in other regions.

Rail transport also occupies the main place among domestic traffic. Passenger transportation occupies a significant place in the work of transport, so suburban transportation occupies the second place in terms of mass transportation after intercity transportation by automobile transport . The demand for this type of transportation can be called elastic, since there is an impact of seasonality on transportation, for example, the beginning and ending of academic semesters, vacation time. Therefore, it is advisable to consider tourist trains that could run on sections of the Dnіpro-Pіvdennij station – Apostolovo station, Dnіpro-Pіvdennij station – Surskoye station, Dnіpro-Pіvdennij station – Zhovtokamenka station, Dnіpro-Pіvdennij station – Elizarovo station. The article provides graphs of the movement of these trains, allowing passengers to visit attractions along the entire route. Consequently, tourist routes can improve the development of tourism throughout Ukraine, and not popular destinations. This may result in increased demand for tourist trains, increased monetization of passenger transportation, thereby improving passenger comfort.

Yogyakarta offers many tourist attractions, from nature based tourism, culinary tourism until cultural tourism. With so many tourist attractions offered by Yogyakarta, tourist often finds it difficult to arrange their travel schedule (from choosing which tourist attractions to be visited until choosing which route tourist should takes to maximize their vacation time). Therefore, it’s required to have a way to determine the shortest tour route so tourist can make their tour in the Yogyakarta effective. This problem can be categorized as Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) case. There are a lot of methods can be used to find the shortest route in Travelling Salesman Problems (TSP) case. To solve the problem, which is to find the shortest tour route in Yogyakarta, Algorithm Best-First Travelling will be used in this undergraduate thesis. The implementation of Algorithm Best-First Search to find the shortest tour route in Yogyakarta can be used to produce a solution for tourist to choose the shortest tour package and decide which route they should take. The premium tour package produces tour route from Adi Sucipto Airport-Gembira Loka Zoo- Purawisata-N’dalem Gamelan Hotel-Yogyakarta Palace-Benteng Vredeburg Museum-Taman Pintar-Tamansari-Adi Sucipto Airport with distance covered 20.297 meter. Abstract:
Landscape quality is a crucial factor for the heritage attractiveness of tourism, allowing tourists to experience both natural and cultural aspects along railway journeys. Moreover, railway landscape is a comprehensive system that defines the landscape observed and perceived by passengers and is characterized by the diversity and continuity of the train’s movement. Yunnan-Vietnam railway (YVR) heritage is the research object of this research, whose area encompasses various landscape types and heritage sites, providing great landscape enjoyment. Currently, the assessment methods specifically for railway landscape have been discussed less than for other landscape types, especially for a series of large linear sites like the YVR. To evaluate the value of railway heritage landscape along the railway, this paper proposes a methodology combining the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Delphi method, and GIS as an integrated spatial assessment. Creatively, this paper seeks to: (1) discuss the relationship between railway and landscape; (2) build a comprehensive evaluation system for the railway heritage landscape, covering the topics of history, tourism, ecology, heritage, social-culture, and visual quality; (3) quantify the landscape value of the YVR areas. Thus, the results of this research can be useful to future urban planning, development, and policymaking.

Although it is a new city, the economic growth of Batu City quite rapidly, especially in the tourism sector. The variety of tourism potential bring tourism sector of Batu City become competitive in provincial even national level. However, along the friction of tour base, there are indication relate of tourist saturation in Batu City. It was shown from decrease in number of tourists in the year 2009-2012 with an average of 13% annually. In addition, the rapid development of tourism in Batu City suspected caused some negative impact on the environment. Therefore, efforts to build the tourism sector in Batu City forward has been duly implementing the concept of sustainable tourism, which one of them is by diversification of tourism products. Diversification of tourism products divided into two, namely destinations and attractions. To diversify destinations Batu City is directed to build the tourist market in corridor Diponegoro and Gajah Mada street around Alun-alun Batu City. Meanwhile, the diversification of tourism products for the natural attractions is directed into the development of alternative tourism with travel packages. In artificial attractions, besides the addition of themed rides, managers can diversify tourist attraction by adding a cultural event such as dances at certain hours. Besides that, diversification of tourism products can be done with the addition and improvement of tourism facilities as well as increased accessibility. It can be directed by a central parking and tour transportation as well as the construction of new access by railway from Abdurrahman Saleh Airport to Batu City passing through Malang City.

Abstract:
The impacts of transportation infrastructure on sustainable economic development are multifaceted. The existing literature works on the assumption that transportation infrastructure influences sustainable economic development by influencing production behavior. By observing the increasingly common phenomenon of family tourism, this paper finds that transportation infrastructure not only affects production behavior, but also directly impacts residents’ consumption behavior. Based on this, this paper constructs a growth model in which the traffic infrastructure affects both production and consumption in order to reveal the mechanism by which railway infrastructure changes residents’ consumption structures and ultimately promotes sustainable economic growth by promoting private tourism. In order to verify this theoretical proposition, this paper also constructs panel data from the provinces of China from 2008 to 2018 and conducts an empirical study. It was found that railway and railway infrastructure investments can not only directly promote sustainable economic development through the multiplier effect, but can also indirectly promote economic growth by increasing the amounts of private tourism and their proportions.

Abstract:
This paper selects panel data from 30 provinces in mainland China from 2003 to 2017, and empirically explores the role and impact of transportation infrastructure on regional tourism economic development. The results found that the national tourism economy was significantly negatively related to railway density and positively related to highway density, but not significant; the number of employees in travel agencies had little effect on the tourism economy; the urbanization rate, industrial structure, and per capita GDP were significantly positively related to the tourism economy. In terms of different regions, the tourism economy in the western region has a significant negative correlation with railway density and a significant positive correlation with highway density. The regression results of the core explanatory variables in the eastern and central regions are not significant. To promote the development of tourism economy, attention should be paid to the multi-factor synergy that affects regional tourism economic growths; transportation development planning should be integrated with regional macro development planning and the overall tourism development planning; promote urbanization development, upgrade the industrial structure to stimulate the level of tourism consumption and give play to its space spillover effect to promote regional cooperation.

Abstract:
In order to clarify the impact of Shinkansen network extension on tourism development in Japan, this study investigates the change of tourism demand and tourist behavior in Tohoku and Kyushu Region by using statistical data collected by MLIT and JTA. The results suggest that tourism arrivals increased significantly in cities that were connected by the extended Shinkansen network. In addition, modal share of railway showed obvious increase as well. This paper also reviews the policies that have been adopted to promote tourism development by utilizing Shinkansen through a case study of Hirosaki and Ibusuki city. In order to clarify the impact of HSR and policy effort on tourism demand, Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression analysis is conducted in this study. The model estimation result suggests that the shorter distant from HSR station will result in an increase of tourism demand to a certain destination. In addition, it indicates that the simultaneously operation of Shinkansen and scenic trains will significantly increase the tourism demand. However, such influence will decay over time. Specifically speaking, although it has great influence on tourism demand in the first year, such influence becomes insignificant in the second year.

Abstract When surveying the motivation side of travel and tourism, we can state that tourists consider in their travel decisions, certain landscape preferences – to a certain extent. It also seems to be evident, however, that the objective evaluation of a landscape is a hard task for researchers for numerous reasons. In recent decades, several attempts have been made to create such methods but it seems that, in Hungary at least, this topic is rather neglected. The aim of this study is to provide an evaluation method for the landscape preferences of passengers travelling on Hungarian railway lines, demonstrating how the landscape around the railways could become an attraction during the travel. We survey what types of landscape appearance would be needed in order to generate travel decisions for tourists and also how the travel experience itself could become a tourism product.

Abstract:
The article describes the tourist potential of the Kryvchytsy microdistrict, located near the densely populated city of Lviv. Possibilities of combining socio-historical and natural-geographical tourist attractions in tour routes have been clarified. Socio-historical attractions related to medieval and modern sacred architecture, archeological artifacts, places of residence of famous people, the Holocaust monuments have been explored. A part of the socio-historical attractions of Kryvchytsy is connected with the heritage of the railway industry of the beginning-middle of the XX century. This is a serpentine-shaped railway, which shortly overcomes a 100 meters’ tall path that goes on top of arched bridges, through a car highway, near river flows that started their existence in the Austrian period in Lviv, some railway bridges that were built in the Polish period and the huge iron bridge that was constructed in the Soviet period. The high bridge-like structure is also valuable as a good spectating point of landscapes. The authors believe that the resumption of railway traffic on this branch of the track for tourist needs would be economically viable if we implemented appropriate advertising, gastronomic, entertainment and other attractions. We explored the natural-geographical monuments that have the value of the geo-heritage objects, compositions of geo-sites and geo-morphosites. They illustrate the geological history of the territory (a typical section of the Cretaceous-Neogene rocks), geomorphological features of the hills-remnants and varieties of modern geomorphological processes. Along with geo-tourism objects, the islands of unique phyto- and zoo-cenoses were described as a place that started it’s existence only because of the conditions of the urban region, as well as a good source of drinking water. There were also shown the needs of learning and exploring the geo-touristical objects. On the basis of the conducted scientific researches of social-historical and geo-touristical attractions two cognitive and local lore routes are formed by the Kryvchytsy massif which unites the modern traditions and tendencies of development of the local lore in excursion activity. Authors have developed a map with a trek of sightseeing tour routes for guides from Lviv to use it. A lot of attention is paid to the greening of tourism, the balance of socio-historical and natural objects of excursions, the health component of the organization of the tourist process. Key words: socio-historical attractions; geo-heritage; geo-sites; geo-morphosites; the Kryvchytsia microdistrict in Lviv.

Abstract:
The main aim of this paper is to analyze the development of the railway network in Sicily (Italy), where it runs close to the sea on two of the three sides of the island, and give an overview of the related impacts on coastal environment and tourism. In order to achieve such an objective, the impacts of the railway network were analyzed according to coastal typology (distinguishing between rocky and sandy coastal sectors) and distance from the shoreline (dividing distance values in concrete intervals). Rails were mostly emplaced in flat coastal areas due to the island’s rugged terrain: out of 1592 km of railway, ca. 350 km is located less than 1000 m from the shoreline (123 km on rocky sectors and 227 km on beaches and coastal plains). On sandy beaches and low sandy coastal sectors, approximately 6 km of track is within 25 m from the shoreline, a value rising to 16 km if a 50 m distance is considered, 48 km at 100 m and 103 km at 200 m distance. In correspondence of rocky platforms and high cliffed sectors, data reported for short distances between the rail and the shore are similar to ones observed along sandy coastal sectors, but differ when distance increases, i.e., there is only 32 and 47 km of railway respectively within 100 and 200 m from the shoreline. The emplacement of the railway embankment on beaches and dunes favored coastal squeeze and enhanced coastal erosion due to wave reflection on the embankment, which had to be protected by hard structures. Impacts on rocky sectors, with respect to beach and dune systems, are generally low because such sectors are usually stable (they do not need to be protected), less attractive to tourists and present small urban development. Tourism was affected by reducing landscape quality, beach access and width. More detailed studies and monitoring programs are necessary to locally assess the detailed impacts of the railway network, with this study constituting a preliminary but useful approximation to determine which coastal sectors are potentially the most affected. Results obtained in this paper can stimulate similar researches in other countries to prevent or decrease railway impacts on “Sun, Sea and Sand” tourism and, in general, on the coastal environment.

Abstract:
Tourist-dedicated train is the product of the combination of railway transportation and tourism, and its tour line selection includes the selection of nodes and lines. Based on the principle of decision-making, taking technical factors, tourism factors, regional economic factors, and passenger flow factors as criteria, this paper analyzes the decision-making indices affecting the tour line and establishes the decision-making index system. Subsequently, the prospect theory considering the bounded rationality and psychological factors of decision makers is combined with vague set fuzzy decision theory, and a comprehensive decision method based on vague set and prospect theory is proposed. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed decision method is verified by an example. The research shows that the established decision-making index system is representative, and the proposed decision-making method is scientific and effective for the decision making of tourist lines of tourist-dedicated train. The decision-making results can be used as a reference for the formulation of tour lines and line plans of tourist-dedicated train.

In order to realize the goal of “building up mobile homestays among lucid waters and lush mountains”, the Mentougou District of Beijing wants to plan the surrounding area with the theme of “One Line and Four Mines” in the west of Beijing. In order to comply with the requirement of “one station, one scene”, 12 railway stations need to be planned and developed in different directions, So the station development needs to be evaluated and analyzed first. In this study, the entropy weight method and the TOPSIS (technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution) method are comprehensively used to establish indicators from five aspects: natural potential, mining heritage potential, social potential, traffic potential and tourism potential, and to evaluate the development decision of 12 railway stations of the Menda Railway. The tourism development direction and development importance of abandoned railway stations are decided from the horizontal and vertical dimensions, and the results of the TOPSIS model are expanded beyond the numerical value itself. On this basis, this study also combined with the existing situation of each site, and gave suggestions on the development planning of each site.

This takes into account conditions of risks and cooperation, and allows to determine sets of effective routes which are most profitable ones, provided they meet the established demands. The latter includes routes which meet maximum criteria of the net costs under the conditions of the established system of demands for the activity of the tourism operators.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to consider the history and dark tourism attractions associated with a case study of the Thai-Burma Railway in the city of Kanchanaburi, Thailand. The paper considers how history has been abridged and distorted at a number of attraction sites in order to exploit the dark tourism commercial potential. The role of film media is considered as a critical element of the site narrative and the reality of the tragic past of this place is discussed within the context of Thailand’s role in the Second World War. Kanchanaburi, through the urban attractions that constitute the primary motivations for visitation, distorts and exploits its dark history for commercial and ideological purposes. Where accurate the Second World War interpretation was identified, it was maintained by balancing the requirements of national governments and institutions with acceptable levels of ambiguity and non-controversial perspectives on this urban location’s dark past. Design/methodology/approach The paper draws on literature, historical documents and tourism publications related to the Second World War and the incarceration and forced labour associated with the Thai-Burma Railway and the city of Kanchanaburi. Fieldwork incorporating tourist attraction and commemorative site visitation was undertaken in Northern Thailand in January 2017. Curators, managers, operators and tourist authorities were contacted in advance of the fieldwork by e-mail to request interviews. The sites identified were the primary sites visited by tourists, and no related Second World War site in the area was excluded. For those interviewed in relation to the subject area, a standard questionnaire based on a rolling database, relevant to particular sites was utilised. Interviews were taped and transcribed. Findings The city of Kanchanaburi is defined by a heritage that has changed over time. Many factors imbue the meanings and content of place. This is a function of a plethora of competing Influences and agendas; political, economic, cultural, demographic and historical. Yet, this destination is defined by the dark history of the Second World War which is associated with this place. The visitor attraction sites considered in Kanchanaburi provide multiple narratives around the Second World War events. They offer a range of content driven by influences as diverse as simple commercial gain to the complex interaction of political, economic and ideological agendas (cf. Gegner, 2012). In each case, the interpretation is used to articulate heritage through objects, artefacts, audio recording, place or imagery. These elements exist in environment(s) of their creation; the Second World War heritage of Kanchanaburi is developed in a nation that has only a partial and selective acceptance of its role in this conflict. The visitor attractions examined in this research and their content have all re-constructed and re-represented the past. Historical memorialization remains embedded in interests that are global, commercial, ideological but rarely neutral. The interpretation of the Thai-Burma Railway and the narrative of the many victims is associated with the construction merit respect, commemoration and consideration that is value free and not distorted by ideology or commercial imperatives. Practical implications This paper provides a foundation for further consideration of how such contested dark heritage is viewed not least by visitors and users. Development of research in this area would provide a valuable source of data on: consumer profiles, motivations and orientation. Relating this data to nationality and origin would provide useful comparative data to that offered by operators and managers of key attractions. Furthermore, the prevalence of social and digital media as primary tourist information source could be measured against the continued (and possibly declining) importance of the filmic narrative. Furthermore, deeper evaluation of nature and content of interpretation is merited, given the range of approaches and content observed. At a political and policy level, the treatment of this part of Thai history and the degree of sensitivity around interpretation is linked to how a nation confronts its difficult past. More thorough evaluation of treatment in national media and education curriculum also merits review. Urban heritage is an important element of urban destination marketing and evaluation based around core themes of transparency, openness, respect for the past, and sensitive treatment of tragic events offer direction for application and evaluation in other urban contexts. Originality/value This is the first time the heritage of this city has been considered in the context of dark tourism and the role of Thailand in the Second World War. It incorporates an analysis of all of the relevant attractions in the city and provides through the fieldwork conducted an original contribution to the tourism literature in this field. It draws on historical record, original documentation, interview analysis and tourism data. It provides further evidence of the dark tourism phenomena in a South East Asian context linked to a conflicted and selective appraisal of the past.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to analyze the possibility of implementing Smart Urban Railway Space concept in the development of Semarang Tawang Station area which is one of the entrance gates of Semarang tourists and has a high historical value. The area of Tawang station becomes an integral part of Semarang Old Town because of its adjacent location. This attachment is one potential that can be considered to grow the activity of the area into a tourism area and a business center. Increasing number of visitors can cause overcrowding. The crowded situation of visitors caused the lack of circulation so that the need for redesigning Tawang station area. A station area (public transportation) must be able to adapt to the environment and function needs for the visitor. Smart city design is about rethinking infrastructure, buildings and facilities as well as other infrastructure integrated to form smart cities and smart urban space. Smart Urban railway space is a concept that integrates an architectural building with the surrounding open space. It is hoped that this concept can parse overcrowding and make the area of Tawang station a tourism area. Methods used are qualitative methods with a rationalistic approach. The result of this research is a recommendation of the Smart Urban Railway Space concept at Tawang station area which is expected to parse the overcrowding problem that occurred.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to water transport and its role in the tourism sector. Water transport is one of the oldest forms of transport and remained the most important until the advent of transcontinental railways in the second half of the 19th century. It plays a huge role in the tourism sector and is used quite actively. The most significant advantages are a high level of comfort, a large volume of one-time loading of ships, the possibility of implementing various types and purposes of tourism (educational, business tourism, educational, shop tourism). The main type of sea and river transportation in tourism is cruises - travel in a vicious circle with radial trips from ports to the interior regions of countries. The main activity of water transport is to meet the needs of people in passenger transportation, as well as the demand for recreation during a sea trip. More than 25 years ago from Odessa it was easy to quickly and inexpensively get to anywhere in the Black Sea; a powerful fleet of passenger hydrofoils successfully competed with trains and aircraft throughout the Northern Black Sea region. By the beginning of the 1980s, hydrofoils "Kometa" and "Kolkhida" sailed from Odessa to Kherson, Kakhovka, Zaporozhye, Nikolaev, and also towards Crimea – to Skadovsk, Evpatoria, Sevastopol, Yalta, Kerch, Novorossiysk and Sochi. "Comets" and "Colchis" covered the distance along the Odessa – Kherson line in 2 hours and 40 minutes, in contrast to automobile transport – 4 hours, which was much more comfortable and faster. And boats and sea trams running along the coast of the Odessa Gulf, from Kryzhanovka to Chernomorka, were one of Odessa's calling cards from the post-war times until the 1990s, when the history of Odessa sea trams and hydrofoils ended. Sea transport and water travel play a huge role in the tourism sector all over the world, therefore their revival is an integral part in the development and modernization of the tourism sector of the Northern Black Sea region. In the 2000s and 2010s, there were attempts to revive coastal passenger shipping in the Black Sea, but not as successful. The main obstacle to the return of high-speed coastal passenger shipping to Odessa is the seasonality and dependence on the weather, which makes water transport not as stable as the railway. Despite this, "Rockets" and "Komets" do not have competition in speed with any bus and railway on such river and sea directions as Nikolaev, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk, Izmail, etc. Moreover, it will serve the development of domestic and foreign tourism.
