Na+/I−symporter (NIS)-mediated radioiodide uptake (RAIU) serves as the basis for targeted ablation of thyroid cancer remnants. However, many patients with thyroid cancer have reduced NIS expression/function and hence do not benefit from radioiodine therapy. microRNA (miR) has emerged as a promising therapeutic target in many diseases; yet, the role of miRs in NIS-mediated RAIU has not been investigated. In silicoanalysis was used to identify miRs that may bind to the 3′UTR of humanNIS(hNIS). The top candidate miR-339-5p directly bound to the 3′UTR of hNIS. miR-339-5p overexpression decreased NI

The Na+/I− symporter (NIS)-mediated iodide uptake is the basis for targeted radioiodine ablation of thyroid cancers. However, NIS-mediated radioiodide uptake (RAIU) activity is often reduced in thyroid cancers. As mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway is activated in about 70% of papillary thyroid carcinoma, we investigated whether MEK (MAPK kinase) inhibition will restore NIS protein levels and NIS-mediated RAIU activity in RET/PTC oncogene-transformed thyroid cells. We found that MEK inhibitor PD98059 increased NIS protein levels within 30 min of treatment. However, the i

Abstract Radioactive iodine ablation (RAIA) therapy with Iodine-131 (I-131) is an established treatment for grave’s thyrotoxicosis. However, there is 10 to 20% chance of treatment failure. Lithium, a drug used to treat bipolar disorder, has significant effects on thyroid function. The most clinically relevant is the inhibition of thyroid hormone release. It is also known to inhibit colloid formation, and is involved in blocking organic iodine as well as thyroid hormone release from the thyroid gland without an effect on radioiodine uptake. SCA transports timber via rail from railway terminals in western Sweden to saw and/or pulp mills located on the east coast. Sometimes timber wagons are lost due to damages inflicted when loading the wagon. Wagons can also be decommissioned for maintenance conducted by the Swedish Transport Administration. Both situations are unpredictable and causes many types of problems. If the wagons could be automatically traced these problems could be predicted and pre-emptive actions could be taken. All wagons used by SCA are equipped with RFID tags and RFID readers are installed at the railway terminals

This type of oscillating and random excitation arises from irregularities of the track including rail surface corrugation, rail joints, variance in super-elevation, and also wheel imperfectness like wheel flats and unbalancy. Since most of the pre-mentioned sources have random nature, a random based theory should be applied for fatigue life estimation of the bogie frame.
