AbstractWe describe doubleHurwitz numbers as intersection numbers on the moduli space of curves Using a result on the polynomiality of intersection numbers of psi classes with the Double Ramification Cycle, our formula explains the polynomiality in chambers of double Hurwitz numbers and the wall-crossing phenomenon in terms of a variation of correction terms to the ψ classes. We interpret this as suggestive evidence for polynomiality of the Double Ramification Cycle (which is only known in genera 0 and 1).

AbstractWe give bounds for the Betti numbers of projective algebraic varieties in terms of their classes (degrees of dual varieties of successive hyperplane sections). We also give bounds for classes in terms of ramification volumes (mixed ramification degrees), sectional genus and, eventually, in terms of dimension, codimension and degree. For varieties whose degree is large with respect to codimension, we give sharp bounds for the above invariants and classify the varieties on the boundary, thus obtaining a generalization of Castelnuovo’s theory for curves to varieties of higher dimension.

The possibility of developing roots and shoots on Dianthus deltoides nodal and apical cuttings on rooting media was investigated in vitro conditions. The explants developed roots and shoots successfully, and the best results were achieved on MS medium without plant hormones. Number of roots per shoot, length of roots and ramification of roots were not significantly dependent on the medium (NAA-naphthaleneacetic acid concentration), or on the type of explant used (nodal or apical cuttings). This paper is concerned with singular projective rationally connected threefolds $X$ which carry non-zero pluri-forms, that is the reflexive hull of $({\rm\Omega}_{X}^{1})^{\otimes m}$ has a non-zero global section for some positive integer $m$. If $X$ has $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial terminal singularities, then we show that there is a fibration $p$ from $X$ to $\mathbb{P}^{1}$. The inflorescence structure of Begoniaceae was analyzed taking into account their degree of symmetry. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of 71 species led to the recognition of nine architectural models. When the whole plant is considered, the inflorescence of Begoniaceae is a thyrse. Comparative analyses of the models allowed to determine at what level symmetry or asymmetry is found. In this research,we study iterations of non-pleasantly ramified polynomials over fields of positive characteristic and subsequently, their lower ramification numbers. Of particular interest for this thesis are polynomials for which both the multiplicity and  the degree of its iterates grow exponentially. Specifically we consider the family  of polynomials such that given a positive integer k the family is given by P(z) = z(1 + z (3^k-1)/2 + z3^k-1). The cubic polynomial z + z2 + z3 is a special case of this family and is particularly interesting.

Insect pests act as main barrier in enhancing yield potential of Brassica crops. Lipaphis erysimi is considered as one of the most destructive insect species in mustard production due to its voracious type feeding and multiplication. Therefore application of insecticide is inevitable for cultivation of cruciferous crops, although systemic insecticides has been found to be suitable for management of aphid, despite of high cost, residual effect and ecological ramification have necessitated the application of bio and botanical insecticides as novel approach and are recorded significant in research. Aphids having exclusively viviparous parthenogenesis type reproduction from January to March month with the completion of eight generations are helpful in quick mass multiplication. Natural enemies Coccinella spp., Syrphid larvae and bio-pesticide found effective in suppress aphid numbers. Manipulation in sowing dates of mustard crop provides good yield and less incidence of aphid which is proved through research. Lack of environmental resistant varieties has dispensed toward non feasibility of conventional breeding approaches for developing aphid-resistant Brassica. Although application of genetic engineering plan has resulted in moderate success in development of aphid resistance, so far commercialization of such genetically modified crops has not conceivable, intimate the necessity of further insights in to host plant and aphid communication to form effective approach against aphid resistance. Therefore in this chapter the components involved in Brassica aphid communication are highlighted and present statuses and problem in aphid management are discussed.

Mode switching is a frequent practice in healthcare interpreting, but has received very little attention. This research aims to bridge the aforementioned gap by investigating the instances of mode switching in interpreter-mediated healthcare encounters and the implications of this practice (or lack thereof) in managing effectively the administration of patients' care. To achieve this aim, the investigator created an online survey intended for trained healthcare interpreters alone. Seventy-five responses were collected over a period of three months (May to July 2019) and analyzed using a mixed methods approach. The objective was to demonstrate how interpreters envisage mode switching from the perspective of the training they received, the applicability of switching in relation to the nature of assignments that call for such shift in modes, the differences in mode switching between spoken and sign language, the institutional or other constraints (such as time limitations, number of participants, power differential among interactants) that call for or hamper mode switching, etc. The collected answers reveal a discrepancy between training and practice as well as between prescriptive requirements and reality in the field of healthcare interpreting. The respondents' comments allow the investigator to make key training recommendations.

Bureaucracy has been around us since the earliest human societies and has been the cornerstone of ancient and modern civilisations. Literature documents its several merits and demerits but little attention has been given to its moral ramifications. This is essential in these critical times that have recorded increasing numbers of corporate scandals globally. If bureaucracy is at the foundations of our modern societies, its role in this trend cannot be ignored hence the purpose of this paper. First, a historical review of bureaucracies from the industrial revolution era through the first and second world wars to our modern capitalist society is presented. Second, bureaucracy is conceptualised with a clear focus on Weber's ideal type. Arguments surrounding its rationality and efficiency were critically looked into as a basis for discussing emerging moral issues. It concludes by submitting that indeed bureaucracy can stifle moral agency.

As we increasingly depend on technology, cyber threats and vulnerabilities are creating trust issues for businesses and enterprises, and cybersecurity is being considered as the number one threat to the global economy over the next 5-10 years. In this chapter, the authors explain this phenomenon by first describing the changing cyber ecosystem due to extreme digitalization and then its ramifications that are plainly visible in the latest trends in cyber-attacks. In the process, they arrive at five key implications that any modern enterprise needs to be cognizant of and discuss eight emerging measures that may help address consequences of those implications substantially. It is hoped that these measures will play a critical role in making enterprise security more proactive, cognitive, automated, connected, invisible, and risk aware.
