Abstract:
Abstract Parthenium hysterophorus belongs to the family Asteracaeae (compositae), many plants of which are capable of causing allergic contact dermatitis. Parthenium hysterophorus was introduced to India in the 1950s. Its dermatitis causing tendency was first reported by Ranade and others. Fornias, Duenas and Sleight had earlier undertaken its proving on human beings as well as on a few animals; we have re-proved P. hysterophorus in Indian conditions, particularly those prevailing in the northern part of the country, and have compared our findings with those of Fornias, Duenas and Sleight. Some important characteristic symptoms such as dermatitis, eczema, itching, sides of neck, part of face, “V” of neck, front of elbows and backs of knees (antecubital and popliteal fossae), allergic rhinitis (hay fever), breathlessness (resembling asthma) have not previously been reported. We also found that P. hysterophorus causes some characteristics in mammals other than human beings. We discovered that P. hysterophorus causes diarrhoea, severe papular erythematous eruptions, breathlessness and choking which sometimes causes the death of animals. The non-occurrence of these symptoms outside India may be attributed to the climate differences and also to the susceptibility of persons. P. hysterophorus occurring here belongs to a strain which is more virulent than the form found outside India.

Abstract:
To ensure the highest quality of Oviductus Ranae products for consumers, an accurate, efficient, scientific and comprehensive evaluation method for assessing the quality of Oviductus Ranae was proposed in this paper. The fingerprint of Oviductus Ranae has been established based on the method of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Oviductus Ranae from different habitats were analyzed by hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). The HPLC profiles of fourteen batches of Oviductus Ranae showed 33 well-resolved common peaks in each chromatogram. Five of these were assigned to 1-methyl hydantoin, 7-ketocholesterol, 4-cholesten-3-one, cholesterol and stigmasterol. Contents of these five main effective components were determined in the meantime. Based on the HPLC profiles of all the samples, the reference HPLC fingerprint and similarity values were calculated by statistical software (SPSS 19.0). It was found that similarity value of all Oviductus Ranae samples were more than 0.85 and Oviductus Ranae from same habitats had similarity to some degree. In conclusion, the proposed method had good specificity, repeatability, stability and precision, which can provide a reference for the quality evaluation and identification of the medicine origin of Oviductus Ranae. Quantitation of effective components revealed that contents of five effective constituents in Oviductus Ranae obtained from Ji Lin province were the highest, followed by Hei Longjiang province and Liaoning province. The results of HCA showed that samples classified into one group were associated with their habitats. HPLC fingerprint combined with quantitation of main effective compounds and data analysis techniques can be an efficient and useful method for monitoring the quality of Oviductus Ranae.

Abstract:
As one of the featured products in northeast China, Oviductus Ranae has been widely used as a nutritious food, which contains a variety of bioactive unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs). It is necessary to establish a scientific and reliable determination method of UFA contents in Oviductus Ranae. In this work, six principal UFAs in Oviductus Ranae, namely eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), arachidonic acid (ARA), linoleic acid (LA) and oleic acid (OA), were identified using UPLC-MS/MS. The UFAs identified in Oviductus Ranae were further separated based on the optimized RP-HPLC conditions. Quantitative analysis of multi-components by single-marker (QAMS) method was implemented in content determination of EPA, ALA, DHA, ARA and OA, where LA was used as the internal standard. The experiments based on Taguchi design verified the robustness of the QAMS method on different HPLC instruments and chromatographic columns. The QAMS and external standard method (ESM) were used to calculate the UFA content of 15 batches of Oviductus Ranae samples from different regions. The relative error (r < 0.73%) and cosine coefficient showed that the two methods obtained similar contents, and the method validations met the requirements. The results showed that QAMS can comprehensively and effectively control the quality of UFAs in Oviductus Ranae which provides new ideas and solutions for studying the active components in Oviductus Ranae.

Abstract:
This work demonstrated a method combining reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) with chemometrics analysis to identify the authenticity of Ranae Oviductus. The fingerprint chromatograms of the Ranae Oviductus protein were established through an Agilent Zorbax 300SB-C8 column and diode array detection at 215 nm, using 0.085% TFA (v/v) in acetonitrile (A) and 0.1% TFA in ultrapure water (B) as mobile phase. The similarity was in the range of 0.779–0.980. The fingerprint chromatogram of Ranae Oviductus showed a significant difference with counterfeit products. Hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) successfully identified Ranae Oviductus from the samples. These results indicated that the method established in this work was reliable.

Abstract:
Oviductus Ranae is a nutritional product for both medicine and food. Its quality is uneven due to multiple factors. An efficient method was established to evaluate the quality of Oviductus Ranae using fingerprint techniques and chemometric methods based on the analysis of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in petroleum ether extract by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). During this process, 27 batches of Oviductus Ranae were analyzed by HPLC and two types of chromatographic fingerprints were established. The fingerprint that was obtained by matching six known peaks was used for the quantification of six PUFAs. Another fingerprint was obtained by matching sixteen peaks with a peak area ratio greater than 0.5% and it was used to classify the different qualities of Oviductus Ranae by further combining three different chemometric models. The 27 batches of Oviductus Ranae were divided into four categories, which was consistent with the analysis results of six PUFAs contents. The two high-quality samples with significantly higher contents were classified into one category, and samples with medium contents were divided into two categories, including eight and thirteen samples, respectively. The four inferior samples with lower contents were classified into one category. The results indicated that the newly developed method has potential application prospects for the quality evaluation of Oviductus Ranae.

Abstract:
AbstractThe aim of the research was to establish the density of specimens and shoots as well as the reproductive effort of Hydrocharis morsus-ranae during the whole vegetative period in a Polish oxbow lake. The following specimen features were examined: plant diameter, total length, the number of buds, flowers, young fruit, ripe fruit, turions and leaves and also dry total mass, vegetative mass, generative mass, the bud mass, the flower mass, young fruit mass and ripe fruit mass. The density of Hydrocharis morsus-ranae specimens per square metre ranged from 10 to 170 while the density of shoots ranged from 10 to 545. From one square metre overgrown with Hydrocharis morsus-ranae, a maximum of 389 turions, 50 fruit and 4000 seeds are produced. The maximum of reproductive effort is 97.8% of vegetative mass and 2.2% of generative mass in September 2010. The factors which best explain changeability of the Hydrocharis morsusranae population in time are the length and the diameter of the specimens in the population. Fruiting of Hydrocharis morsus-ranae in Poland is higher than in Canada, where it is an invasive taxon. Hydrocharis morsus-ranae is well adapted to the environment in oxbow lakes of the River Vistula and represents the S-R strategy.

Abstract:
SUMMARYUsing a combination of morphological, life-history and molecular data, we redescribe Sphaerospora ranae (Morelle, 1929) n. comb. (previously Leptotheca ranae) and emend its taxonomic status. Renal infection was recorded in 2 spp. of frogs (out of 5 amphibian spp. examined), Rana dalmatina (proposed type host) and Rana temporaria, suggesting restricted host specifity of S. ranae. We provide a description of sporogonic stages of S. ranae for the first time and suggest possible modes of its developmental cycle. Phylogenetic analysis inferred from the small-subunit ribosomal DNA revealed a close relationship of S. ranae with piscine Sphaerospora elegans (type species of the genus) and Sphaerospora truttae, forming together with distantly related Leptotheca fugu a ‘Sphaerosporid clade’, the basal branch to all myxosporean species. The close relationship of the 3 Sphaerospora spp. is further supported by the presence of 2 areas with extensive nucleotide insertions in the V4 region of the SSU rDNA (absent in L. fugu), morphology and life-history features. We conclude, that the spore morphology of Sphaerospora s.l., is very simple and probably represents a ‘primitive’, basal morphotype retained in most myxosporean lineages. Based on presented data, we propose emendation of the genus Sphaerospora using morpological, life-history and molecular features.

Abstract In present study the concentrations of Hg, Mn, Zn, Fe and Cu in water, bottom sediments and leaves of Hydrocharis morsus-ranae from 11 oxbow lakes of the Odra River were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. Trace metal concentration in water and bottom sediments were below the geochemical background, indicating no anthropogenic impact in the studied area. On average, the concentrations of metals in leaves of H. morsus ranae exceeded natural thresholds. A high bioaccumulation factors for metals were recorded. The significant positive correlations found between the content Zn, Fe and Hg of in water and in the H. morsus ranae indicate the potential use of the species in the biomonitoring of environmental contamination with these metals.

Abstract:
As nutrition and a health tonic for both medicine and food, the protein content of Oviductus Ranae is more than 40%, making it an ideal source to produce antioxidant peptides. This work evaluated the effects of six different proteases (pepsin, trypsin, papain, flavourzyme, neutral protease and alcalase) on the antioxidant activity of Oviductus Ranae protein, and analyzed the relationship between the hydrolysis time, the degree of hydrolysis (DH) and the antioxidant activity of the enzymatic hydrolysates. The results showed that the antioxidant activity of Oviductus Ranae protein was significantly improved and the optimal hydrolysis time was maintained between 3–4 h under the action of different proteases. Among them, the protein hydrolysate which was hydrolyzed by pepsin for 180 min had the strongest comprehensive antioxidant activity and was most suitable for the production of antioxidant peptides. At this time, the DH, the DPPH radical scavenging activity, the absorbance value of reducing power determination and the hydroxyl radical scavenging activity corresponding to the enzymatic hydrolysate were 13.32 ± 0.24%, 70.63 ± 1.53%, 0.376 ± 0.009 and 31.96 ± 0.78%, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the hydrolysis time, the DH and the antioxidant activity of the enzymatic hydrolysates, further indicating that the hydrolysates of Oviductus Ranae protein had great antioxidant potential. The traditional anti-aging efficacy of Oviductus Ranae is closely related to the scavenging of reactive oxygen species, and its hydrolysates have better antioxidant capacity, which also provides support for further development of its traditional anti-aging efficacy.

Optical injection, the denaturation and necrosis level of hepatocytes and the distribution of collagen fibrosis increased obviously after hypodermic injection of CCl4 for 9 weeks. Electron microscope, the shape and structure of cell organells were destroyed obviously. Fat storing cells and kuppfer.s cells increased. Collagen fibrosis distributed extensively in the model groups. After 8 weeks treated with Oviductus ranae. The pathological changes and the collagen fibrosis related with hepatic fibrosis decreased significantly. Conclusions: Oviductus ranae can decrease the pathological changes of hepatic fibrosis induced by CCl4, and prevent the development of hepatic fibrosis.

Abstract:

This study aims to describe the history and distribution of Randai, as well as making Randai’s distribution maps in Kuantansingi Regency, Riau Province. This research is qualitative-descriptive. The data are obtained through field data and library data. Through this research, it is known that the Randai of Kuantansingingi originally comes from Minangkabau and has undergone changes. The acculturation of Minangkabau culture with Malay and change of times has led to changes in stories, language, costumes, dances (joget), musical instruments, and when it is performed, even the view of people on Randai. In the process of making the Randai of Kuantansingingi’s Map in Riau Province, 49 Randai groups were inventoried in various sub-districts in Kuantansingingi Regency. All these Randai groups have been mapped onto the Map of Kuantansingingi’s Randai.

Abstract:
Wood frogs, Rana sylvatica, tolerate the freezing of their body tissues as an overwintering adaptation. Various parasites infect wood frogs of northern populations, but nothing is known about their strategies for surviving within a frozen host. We examined winter-conditioned wood frogs that were experimentally exposed to 0°C (nonfrozen) or –4°C (frozen) to determine whether endoparasites survive the freezing of their host. We found no differences in the prevalence or intensity of adult lungworms Rhabdias ranae (Nematoda) or of larvae of an unidentified species of digenetic trematode between these groups. Live individuals of both species were observed in hosts that recovered from experimental freezing at –4°C. Within the host, R. ranae also tolerated exposure to –5°C, a temperature near the lower limit of survival of the wood frog. Cryostage experiments showed that, like its host, R. ranae was highly susceptible to inoculative freezing and tolerant of the freezing of its tissues. Rhabdias ranae frozen in vitro in the presence or absence of 250 mM glucose, the cryoprotectant used by wood frogs, recovered from a 10-h exposure to –4°C. The mechanism of cold tolerance used by larval trematodes was not investigated; however, we hypothesize that freeze avoidance by supercooling may be important in this species. Freeze-tolerant anurans, such as the wood frog, are useful subjects in the study of coevolution of thermal tolerance in parasites and their host.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to reveal how marginalized Randai as a performing art in the life of Minangkabau’s people and their social culture in West Sumatra. This research is based on qualitative methodology with a descriptive method; this research is focused on the marginalization of Randai as the consequences of its lack of acting techniques, movement, and configuration. This research involved traditional artists, dance and Randai artists, indigenous elites, and the people managing the show. Data collection using live monitoring on the Randai performance and doing many interviews related to Randai as an art performance in Minangkabau’s people’s life. Besides that, the data also collected from documentary and literature studies. Data analysis was done using the ethnography method. The results showed that, in reality, the weakness of the Randai show is located on the acting, movement, and its configuration. The weakness of those three key elements is marginalizing the existence of Randai as an art show in social culture life. The lack of acting, movement, and configuration in the performance does not match the current demand of the people.

Abstract:
A method, quantitative analysis of multicomponents by single marker (QAMS), was established in this article to investigate the quality control of a traditional Chinese medicine, Oviductus Ranae. 7-Hydroxycholesterol, 7-ketocholesterol, 4-cholesten-3-one, stigmasterol, 7-dehydrocholesterol, and cholesterol were selected as the indexes of quality evaluation of Oviductus Rana. The determination was achieved on an Agilent HC-C18 column (4.6 mm × 250 mm, 5 μm) using methanol with water (87 : 13 v/v) as mobile phase at the flow rate of 2.0 mL/min. Cholesterol was used as an internal standard to determine the relative correction factors between cholesterol and other steroidal constituents in Oviductus Ranae. The contents of those steroidal constituents were calculated at the same time. To evaluate the QAMS method, an external standard method was used to determine the contents of six steroidal constituents. No significant difference was observed when comparing the quantitative results of QAMS with the results of external standard method. The proposed QAMS method was proved to be accurate and feasible based on methodological experiments. QAMS provided a simple, efficient, economical, and accurate way to control the quality of Oviductus Ranae.
